I've just home, and had to come on here to say how amazing it was. I'm even more in love than I was before. Stevie was great, seemed to enjoy herself, and the crowd seemed to really love her. Stevie and Rod doing 'Young Turks' worked much better than videos I've seen of it from the US shows. Stevie really got into her dancing with the backing singers. I really hope she does some solo headlining shows later this year. I'd love to hear more In Your Dreams songs than just 'Secret Love'.

What a day! Too tired to post last night.......

Managed to get centre stage at the very front of the Golden Circle to see Stevie ROCK the park. She was awesome, so much energy. Personal highlights - Rhiannon, Fall From Grace,GDW and the closer Edge of Seventeen. Oh yes, and when a roadie brought me Waddy's pick after the set - what a result.

A great day spent with some lovely people.

Hopefully the crowd rocked enough to make her want to come back .........please!

Have to concur with all the positivity - the crowd really perked up and paid attention when Rod introduced her. I think it was really good that he did that because it legitimized her rock status and made everyone cheer her arrival. Her voice was strong, confident and she was really bubbly, vibrant and fun. She said she'd been here 3 weeks and had "so much fun", and I believed that she had. The crowd didn't get bored at all (and I was at the side where there were some vile chavs) and the end of Edge of Seventeen ROCKED SO HARD. I was so happy that she really pulled it out of the bag for a bigger crowd. Anyway, Rod was great, they only did Young Turks together but it was fun, and I'm pretty tired the next morning!

Gotta go wait in the HOT sun for her at HMV today now - it's non-stop! She also joked it's the first time ever she'd worn sunglasses at a concert.. who would've thought it'd be London that she could say that about?

Well, I’m glad to read Stevie was on fire and that so many people enjoyed it. I’m sure it had to do with the fact that she has not played there in a very long time. I can understand the excitement for that reason but the set list??? I simply do not understand how Stevie is content on playing the same songs over and over. The new songs have already been rehearsed and played. As an artist one would think she would want to play her new music. She claims it is her favorite album. This is a big reason along with the price of the tickets, why I passed up 2nd row center seats for the VA show. When I saw $400 + for the total costs I could not bring myself to do it.

Before everyone starts bashing her about the setlist, please keep in mind that IYD has not yet been released in the UK and that she is in an opening slot before a very large audience. It makes perfect sense that she would want to pack the set with hits and high(er)-energy rockers. It was basically her job to rev up the crowd for Rod, and on that front she succeeded (from all accounts). I think she would have been mortified at the thought of playing brand new songs that nobody had ever heard of in this kind of setting. As she proved at the Wiltern show, she is perfectly able and willing to play her new songs. As such, I have every reason to believe that a third of her headlining American tour set will be new songs.

I hear what you’re saying Hejira. I wasn’t suggesting that she should have done her b-day set list for the Hyde Park show, but just to see it revert back to the same ole same ole after seeing what she did on her b-day just left me wondering what she’s going to do when she tours the US. For the fans sake I hope you’re right. Until then I can’t justify spending the kind of money in which Stevie and her camp are asking.

Too right. She said on Loose women at lunchtime that she found the sun in her eyes "disconcerting" and used her hand to shield the sun, so there I am thinking well yes she probably wouldnt want to wear the shades and she did! Maybe they are prescription lenses and she wanted to see all the crowd. She also said that it was a big deal to play onfront of such a huge crowd since the Mac only play to 5-15000.

The guy that wrote this sounds a miserable ****! There is just no pleasing some people I guess.

You have to admire 66-year-old Rod Stewart's vigour. As well as singing in the sweltering heat in front of about 45,000 fans for two hours, he recently became a father for the eighth time.

Perhaps he anticipated the cracks about almost having his own football team, because he had a photo of his children in Celtic shirts on the giant screen during his show, including four-month-old Aiden in a romper suit of green and white hoops.

Earlier, Stewart generously introduced Stevie Nicks's set, although even with a few Fleetwood Mac classics she struggled to entertain for the full hour.

The cheering that greeted Lifted from the reformed Lighthouse Family, however, suggested that perhaps Nineties easy listening hits can be just the job on a hot day.

Initially, Stewart and his superior band mirrored his recent recording career by playing rock and soul covers, opening with Love Train. It was slick, but felt more suited to a Vegas performance and the saxophone solos became wearisome. When Stewart explored his own back catalogue, and exposed his chest to the screaming middle-aged fans down the front, there was fun to be had.

A duet with Nicks on the synth-heavy Young Turks from 1981 sounded like something from The Killers, while his superbly soulful voice ensured the cover of Tom Waits's Downtown Train was magisterial.

Stewart seemed happiest clowning about with former Faces bandmate Ronnie Wood, who played guitar on the singalong of Maggie May. They also teamed up on Stay With Me, and there's potentially a great show featuring these rollicking old Faces tunes.

He played it safe for the finale, though, with crowd-pleasing No 1s Sailing and Do Ya Think I'm Sexy? From any other pensioner strutting around in a garish jacket, it would be an absurd question.

But Rod Stewart still drives them wild.

Don't wish to be bitchy, but Rod's latest was an IVF job. In fact, I laughed like a drain when someone said to him in an interview 'So there's still plenty of lead in your pencil, eh, Rod?' *snort* - and he goes, 'Not just that, but I've got someone to write to as well!' - and I'm like wtf? That doesn't even make sense. Just the usual lazy confusion between virility ('vigour') and fertility.

The crowd still went nuts for Fall From Grace once she'd finished it, despite it not being very well known.

I agree with everything said, it was a festival set and she was not headlining. And based on the Absolute Radio interview, she thinks she doesn't have a career here at all solo and is starting from scratch. And where better to start?

Agreed. I mean, it would have been awesome to hear some of the new tracks, but I don't think it would have been the right environment. I think she played just the right balance between songs people would recognise (Dreams, Rhiannon), and songs that would make people interested in her work as a solo artist (Outside the Rain, Fall From Grace). And judging by the sounds that the audience were making - at least, from where I was standing - everyone was responding to everything she chose to sing.

28th June 2011 By Kim Dawson

FLEETWOOD Mac favourite Stevie Nicks picked the right day of the festival to grace the stage.

Adjusting her shades, Stevie Nicks laughed and admitted: “This is the first concert I’ve done in sunglasses.” And boy did she shine.

Opening with Stand Back, the set was peppered with solo and band favourites, as well as Secret Love from her new record, which is out this week. Dreams, Gold Dust Woman and Rhiannon brought out the nostalgia in the mesmerised crowd, while Edge Of Seventeen gave a hint of bootyliciousness as Beyoncé played a field over on Worthy Farm.

But it was headliner Rod Stewart who naturally stole the show. All his hits poured out as he gyrated across the stage like a man half his age. Do Ya Think I’m Sexy was answered by roars from middle-aged women seemingly back in their teenage years, while Sailing sent arms shooting in the air for a slow wave back and forth.

Stevie returned to duet with Rod on Young Turks, and Ronnie Wood cranked up his guitar for an energetic Maggie May and Stay With Me.

A perfect end to day three of HRC.

Just wanted to add a little about the setlist.

She came out to 'Stand Back' (which I shed a few tears over, very emotional ... or it could have been the cider ;)) which, as I recall, Rod covered awhile back. It was perfect as this was, on the whole, a 'Rod' crowd and they would know the song. 'Secret Love' has been getting a ton of airplay over here, seriously, in fact I'm hearing that even our local radio stations are playing lots of Stevie songs - not FM, *Stevie* - which, honestly, almost never happens in the UK. She uses 'Outside The Rain' to segue into 'Dreams', again very, very well known over here ... same with 'Rhiannon'. I think 'Fall From Grace' was a nod to her fans and also worked as a rockier song in the context of the day. 'Edge of Seventeen' - well, a few of my friends said that some of the crowd were like 'Oh, she's doing Beyonce !' *face palm* :D But, again, it was a well known track and the audience maybe wouldn't have realised that 'Bootylicious' was built around the riff from 'Eo17'. 'Landslide', again has been getting lots of airplay thanks to 'Glee'.

She picked it perfectly, IMO.

Oh, I have to say something about the 'Rod-alikes' ! You think we're bad with the chiffon thing and the boots but these fellas were all getting on a bit and they were *everywhere* ! If they had even a little bit of hair it was spiked up a la Rod and they braved the sweltering heat in shirts, ties and jackets

So agree with you and when I said the audience were quieter - I have to say only marginally quieter - I was surrounded by Stevie fans who were loving it, but when I looked back it looked like the crowd were not going quite so mad. Shame Stevie thinks she is starting from scratch - hope the experience in London has helped to make her realise that we need to see her here solo - please!!!

precisely...
a voluminous silk pashmina or shawl is actually conducive to staying cool and comfortable in obscenely hot weather where a tie certainly is not....

After that I was hanging onto the microphone so tightly my knuckles went white as I entered a parallel world where I was, in fact, Stevie Nicks.
