Sorry this is taking so long. My mother is having a few complications from her surgery, so I have been in Austin with her. However, I haven't finished uploading the songs, yet. There are 6 more outtakes from STREET ANGEL, plus the 20 Live Rehearsal songs (sung on lead by Sharon, as confirmed by Sara).
Thanks for your patience, and THANKS to all of those who helped us! I will get the rest uploaded soon.

Thanks Mike.

Holy shizzola! Is it just me or is the SA version of "Mirror, Mirror" like a note-for-note replica of "Edge of Seventeen?" It is epic!!!!!!! I had no idea the girl had the stones to do something like this in 1993.

What an amazing discovery! Mirror, Mirror (Street Angel Version) is blowing my mind!
The musicians playing on this also remind me of the touring band Stevie was using for the OSOTM tour - kinda funky, and less of the crunchy WW guitar chops. It's a damn shame this song never came to full fruition on any of Stevie's solo records. Thanks MIKE!!!

July 1992~ Do y'all think this is Glyn Johns even producing it? The tape had no producer credits. It just doesn't sound like the rest of the Street Angel songs (any mix).
I was telling a friend it reminded me of Tina Turner's 1996 cover of Massive Attack's "Unfinished Sympathy".

It's amazing the comparison between that and this version of MLWCYM....very tired and sluggish. The rock and the drive was definitely there in that era, she just didn't push herself to her best.

Could it be Chris Lord-Alge producing? He was at the helm of "Thousand Days," which was also recorded in 1992.

My first thought on hearing Maybe Love was uh oh it's the klonopin voice.
I'm intrigued with the arrangement of this Mirror Mirror. It still sounds very late 80's to me. Also I appreciate the effort but at some points she's over singing it. I have to wonder if someone was pushing her to do that? In the moments where she doesn't seem to be so self aware there are flashes of the original Stevie solo brilliance. I'm going to have to listen to this many more times, of course.

The beginning sounded like Rooms On Fire to me,then it hits a whole 'nother level. It's baffling how songs that are perfectly album(and single)-worthy get left off and never see the light of day..even b-sides/bonus tracks Silver Springs,Real Tears,Inspiration,My Heart etc. It's like 'why'?!!

Johnny, I think you & Mike are on to something. This July 1992 version of "Mirror, Mirror" does not sound like the production stylings during Glyn Johns reign over the SA sessions. This was probably recorded prior to Glyn's official involvement, and it does sound more similar to the production of "Thousand Days" - which I also never thought sounded like anything on the SA album, but more as an outtake from OSOTM or TimeSpace at the time it was released as a b-side in 1994.

This should have been on Street Angel, along with the other songs listed in the copyright catalog for 1992. This sounds so much better than pretty much anything on the album, imo. Thanks for sharing this, Mike! :)

After a few listens, I'm starting to wonder why (or if?) Stevie chose to release the Rock A Little outtake of Mirror Mirror as the b-side to Blue Denim in the U.S. instead of this one.
Could it have been a mistake?
Thanks again, Mike. :)

I thought the exact same thing!! sorta like it's been speculated that the SA mixes on Enchanted were a mistake too...?? i bet they both were, someone dug in the pile of tapes and was like...ooh Mirror,Mirror should be the bside to Blue Denim..and didn't bother listening and it happened to be the 85 recording... ...wonder if Stevie was upset by this if it was in fact the case??? lol

I think in many ways Street Angel had a vibe and groove that Stevie didn't fully tap into and its evident through song selection and some of the production, and what a misstep it was leaving this version of Mirror Mirror off (the wall :)) It's a shame she didn't do the entire album in'92 because she was on fire vocally (remember Desiree) and this subsided a little by the time the album was released. I still rank Street Angel above Rock a Little and the Other Side of the Mirror and it possibly could have surpassed The Wild Heart with a couple more great performances like this lost gem.

Mike, thank you very much. I've yet to download Maybe Love but this version of Mirror Mirror is indeed killer. I can't say I'd take it over the RAL version (B-side of Blue Denim) because I think that is fantastic as well but now we have 2 great versions :)
If anyone remembers an interview Stevie did with Jill Savage in 1992 on a rock station here in DC/MD (she thanks me at the end of the inteview) :), when talking about the new album she said something to the effect that people were really going to be amazed. I wonder if the other version of Jane that I love so much was also done in 92 because there really are some wonderful gems during this period. This version of Mirror Mirror confirms that. I also love the 91 or 92 mix of Listen to the Rain where Stevie sings like herself and not that forced rock vocal that we got on the CD.
Looking forward to more - thanks again.

Like Lisa mentioned above, I really wonder about the songs Stevie submitted for publishing in 1992:
Mirror, Mirror
Mix-Down
I Call You Missing
The Dance
Running Through The Garden
Street Angel
Love Is Like A River
Rose Garden
Blue Denim
Almost makes me wonder if there was another album going on before Glyn Johns got involved.
BTW, Sara told me the Street Angel version of "I Call You Missing" is amazing!!!

Mirror Mirror is one of my favorites so I can't wait to get home and listen to this. I find it interesting that she didn't like the way this song turned out back in "83-"84, which altered the history of RAL yet she would revisit it in 1992. She obviously wanted the song to be recorded and appear on a record. Too bad it didn't make it onto IYD...

I have the same version, minus the verse at the end, on a demo cassette I got in 1989 before the release of The Other Side of the Mirror from a classified ad seller in Rolling Stone magazine. Not definite proof that it's a RAL outtake - but definitely proof it's not a Street Angel era recording.

I don't know if we'll ever really know since no credits were listed on the cassette single sleeve, but my suspicion is that the RAL versions are the ones that sound unfinished - listed as #1 through #4 (ending with "In spite of what you say, I really wanted you..." and the others similar to it).
They sound very different from the version we ended up with on the Blue Denim cassette...and, the synthy productions sounds like Rupert Hine to me.
Ultimately, I'll always consider it a Rock A Little outtake until proven otherwise, mostly just because I like the idea of it being on an album with other RAL outtakes from the same period. :) I mean, damn, it sounds awesome paired with Running Through The Garden, Love Is Like A River and Thousand Days.

How do we know it's the RAL version? I know a lot of people mention that but her vocals don't seem as ragged as a lot of the RAL tracks.
The biggest indicator to me that the "Blue Denim" b-side was recorded mid-80s is the percussion. Those synthesized Linn drums (a la Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out For A Hero") are very prominent on this version. This effect was all the rage in the 1984-1985 time frame, but had become passe by the end of the decade. There's nothing from the TOSOTM era with a synth drum track like this (which would have sounded very outdated in 1989). Also, while her vocal isn't as ragged as some of the RAL album tracks, it sounds similar to "No Spoken Word" or "Battle Of The Dragon". These factors lead me to believe that it is in fact a RAL outtake.
I do suspect, as others have noted, that they pulled this version by mistake for the "Blue Denim" cassingle and actually meant to use the SA-era version. Certainly the production style sounded very 80s/outdated in 1994.

All of the takes of "Mirror, Mirror" that sound like the b-side have been in fans' hands since 1985, including the b-side. The friend who gave me copies of all of them in May 1994 (before the "Blue Denim" single was even released) had had all of them since Early 1985. They are all 1984 recordings. David even dissected the musical clues on here as well (in all his musical knowledge). In November 1984, Ginny Kamano listed "Mirror, Mirror" as the first single to be released from Rock A Little, with the single out in December 1984 and the Rock A Little album out in January 1985 (Ginny never ever referred to a Mirror, Mirror-entitled album, always calling it Rock A Little. Stevie only ever mentioned the supposed Mirror, Mirror album one time~ in 1989).
The differently-arranged version that fades out, comes back in, with different lyrics? Not sure if that's from then or OSOTM, since Stevie mentions attempting to resurrect it again in 1989.

LWTG would have sounded SO effing great "live". I remember being absolutely shocked:shocked: when I saw Stevie during the OSOTM tour in 89' and this song wasn't played. I thought for sure it would've been a no brainer & take the space of "No Spoken Word" as her new rocker on that tour?! After all, LWTG received plenty of radio play in Denver & other cities across the US on AOR FM station's the summer of 89' just as NSW did in 85'. And charted pretty high (Top 10) on Billboards Rock chart.
And now to find it was also rehearsed for potential inclusion on the SA tour, and yet still not performed:distress: ARGggggg!! From this rehearsal tape, it sounds like it would have been FANTASTIC. I've always loved the harmonies from the girls on this song -LWTG has such a powerful catchy & bratty chorus!

Everything you said LOL. It sounds like it would have been a killer opener. You see, it just goes to show Stevie has it in her to branch out and be a bit more daring but sadly, a lot of the time the end results end up the same ole same ole. I really am knocked out how great LWTG and DTBTIC sound live. I may end up going to see Stevie after all. My on again off again love for her wont’ end I’m sure but it is moments like this that reaffirm why I do love her in the end.

Totally concur. I could not understand her skipping it on the OSOTM tour except for now maybe it was the Klonopin that made that decision. But you're right, under normal circumstances, No Spoken Word would have been replaced by this song. But it still surprises me when she plays songs from an album AFTER the tour to support that album is over. I was surprised they rehearsed Two Kinds of Love as well but not Listen To The Rain?

Not sure if that's from then or OSOTM, since Stevie mentions attempting to resurrect it again in 1989.
ooo kk that's definitely good enough for me! Thank you :)

Hi there, everybody!
I am pleased to present you guys with an "enhanced" version of the 1992 outtake of "Mirror, Mirror". The track has been speed-adjusted as well. I think this one turned out quite well since the source was so well preserved, so hope you guys will enjoy it!

Can someone post links to the other "finished" versions of Mirror Mirror as MP3s? I would like to compare them all. :)
Was the B side one ever located in a pristine copy or is the only version we have have tape-hiss from being transferred from cassette?

There are several pristine copies of the 1984 Rock A Little versions (and a few lesser so).

Mirror, Mirror Outtakes Pitch Restored!
As you all are no doubt aware, most of the Rock A Little outtakes and demos speeds are quite fast due to multiple copying and sharing via cassette format back in the day. At times Stevie sounds like a girl of 13 or a singing chipmunk! I have always wanted to get around to restoring these fast tracks to their proper speed and pitch. I have begun with Mirror, Mirror since we have a finished released track for a guide.
There are seven known tracks of Mirror, Mirror out there; the released track plus six outtakes. I am posting the outtakes here in WAV format. They have been restored to proper pitch and speed and have been optimized in volume to Odb. The audio quality of the tracks varies but is mostly good.
Of the six outtakes there are two different versions of the song. The first version is the "rock version" with the steady beat, different melody and lyrics. The second version is the one with the same backing track as the released version with five different vocal takes by Stevie.
Mirror, Mirror [Version #1]:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?2uun5elj3wc2ykl
There is no known complete copy of this version in circulation. In this outtake the music fades out midway through and then fades back in. For this pitch restored version I have spliced these two sections together so that the music never completely fades away and it sounds more like one take. For the pitch restoration I used the song "Rock A Little (Go Ahead Lily)" as my guide and that seemed a good match.
Mirror, Mirror [Version #2, Vocal #1]:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?hnbcwwg28v1csrn
The melodies vary greatly in the five takes of this second version. They are primarily identified by Stevie's last line in each take. In this first take the last line is "In spite of what you say, well I really wanted you".
Mirror, Mirror [Version #2, Vocal #2]:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?8fbw2i11bc8avww
In this second take Stevie's last line is "Now this will leave you haunted, I really wanted you!"
Mirror, Mirror [Version #2, Vocal #3]:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?mhb4h31zczgkbby
In this third take Stevie's last line is "Well ask your mirror, well I really wanted you...."
Mirror, Mirror [Version #2, Vocal #4]:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ulgadkl9gwobwr7
In this fourth take Stevie's last line is "This will leave you haunted in your mirror".
Mirror, Mirror [Version #2, Vocal #5]:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?e8pls894e28jyjc
This fifth take includes most of Stevie's final vocal with a few different lines that were later re-recorded. In this take Stevie does not sing the bridge or the last chorus. The vocal ends at the instrumental section and the song remains instrumental from there to the end. The ending on this take fades out instead of finishing cold like the others do.
Enjoy everybody! Hopefully I'll get to restoring more of the Rock A Little fast tracks soon.

which direction did you adjust the speed? And how was the speed wrong in the first place?
Hi Anthony,
I slowed the speed slightly so that the song is now in-tune... this, of course, goes on the assumption that the musicians checked the tuning of their instruments before recording. I try to use my ear to see what seems the most natural for Stevie's voice as well... I realize this is a very subjective assessment. The reason I checked and adjusted it in the first place is because the source is a cassette tape... the speed of playback can vary by player with cassettes, affecting the pitch of a song (usually playing back slightly faster than the original source, seemingly even moreso near the end of a side of the tape). I think there tends to be more of an issue with older cassette tapes as well.
Like I said, my adjustment is really a subjective judgment call. If you would like, I can re-adjust the song to play at the speed it did from the source tape... but I do believe that the adjusted speed sounds the most natural to my ear. Take a listen and compare them, and see what you think... I always value feedback on the stuff I work on. Besides just the experience of working on the material, the only way I can get better at what I am doing is to have helpful feedback from other people who listen to the material on their different sound systems... most importantly, with their perspectives/ears since everybody will hear things differently.
Let me know if you really want to have an "enhanced" version that plays at the original speed... and I can send it to you.

To me this version of "Mirror Mirror" is the most important Stevie find in a long time. It's shocking to me to know this kind of FIRE existed in Stevie in 1992...and that it's sat on the shelf unknown all these years. It makes you wonder...what else is still out there?
Had we had this SA version all these years instead of the RAL one...what would we think of the RAL one if it just was discovered now?
I never liked "Mirror Mirror" much I always found it rambling and listless...but this new version puts it up on the top of my list. With "Mirror Mirror" repeated more times like a chorus it gives the song a needed cohesion for me. And that vocal...wow. Miles away from "Just Like A Woman" or "Love's a Hard Game To Play" (other early 90s songs...)
Thank you Mike. I know many others have thanked you...but really we are historians of the music of Stevie Nicks. And this "Mirror Mirror" is legendary!
To the hoarders...if you are reading this...shame on you.

I think all the Street Angel naysayers would be dancing to a different beat if this version of Mirror Mirror had been on the album. Stevie is amazing in her delivery here and if she was advised to shelve this song, just another piece of poor advice she's gotten and taken throughout her career. As a popular artist with the means and ways to do so, this high calibre material ought not be wasting in some "vault". An album per year would not have been out of the question. I've always scratched my head at the silly 3 song limit she had on those classic albums. A minimum of 5 would have been a start. I think we've actually only heard a small fraction of what our lady has done over the years and we'll continue to be pleasantly surprised. It would appear at least that we have a whole other "parallel universe", and maybe the real Street Angel will emerge and we can re-write history.

It was copyrighted again in 1992 along with "Mirror, Mirror" and "I Call You Missing". Maybe all three were done at the same time/space?

I never liked Mirror Mirror because it always sounded like a piece of background music for an episode of Miami Vice. But with all these new enhanced versions and the SA version being posted I've found a new love for it. The SA version even reminds me of Trouble in Shangre La. I'm really loving this. Thank you so much for all the hard work you put into restoring these gems. Even though Stevie doesn't record as much as she used to it's so wonderful to get these tracks.

I can not get either take of Unconditional Love to work; one loads an invalid page, and the other loads a blank page.

Is there anyone who successfully downloaded both who is willing to re-up them to MediaFire and post new links? Please - and thank you!

Could it be Chris Lord-Alge producing? He was at the helm of "Thousand Days," which was also recorded in 1992.
I also agree with this... the production sounds very similar on both and would make sense timing-wise.
After a few listens, I'm starting to wonder why (or if?) Stevie chose to release the Rock A Little outtake of Mirror Mirror as the b-side to Blue Denim in the U.S. instead of this one.
Could it have been a mistake?
Thanks again, Mike. :)
That's a really interesting thought, Mathew! You might be right since the newer recording of "Thousand Days" was a b-side in the UK, and was seemingly recorded around the same time as that version of "Mirror, Mirror"... to me, it also sounds like the same musicians were used on both tracks (particularly noticeable to me is similarity in the drummer's style (such as fills, hi-hat runs, etc.)/the sound of the kit).

i wondered the same thing after listening to this version. Then I thought, if it was really a mistake, she could have corrected it on the enchanted box set, by placing this version on there. However, thats not Stevie's style, to put out two versions of anything. It would've been a great opportunity to correct the error, if it was indeed an error.
Also, thanks mike and everyone else involved in bringing this to the fan community. It was great of all of you to do it...

Wow I know I'm late on this, but I fianlly got around to listening to Mirror Mirror. I like it alot! I can understand the lyrics a bit better in this version.... I love the beginning part. I think I may even like this better than the b-side version.
I wonder if maybe they included the 80's version as a b-side because this version was intentionally going on the final album, and they wanted us to see the "transformation". Only a silly theory.
Thank you so much for sharing these Mike! And I hope all's well with your mother :)

A few updates:
Sara confirms that Chris Lord-Alge is the producer of that 1992 version of "Mirror, Mirror". She says Stevie was shopping for producers before settling on Glyn Johns.
Also, YES, the 1992 "Mirror, Mirror" WAS supposed to be the b-side of "Blue Denim" in 1994, and that old Rock A Little version was put on by mistake! As many guessed!
Not only that, but in 1998, the 1992 "Mirror, Mirror" was ALSO slated to go on Enchanted, not the Rock A Little version. Of course, neither made it.

I wanna know whose mistake was that and were they fired. I'm so sure that someone gets paid to do something and makes a careless error like that. It's like they don't even like Stevie's music much less listen to a track to check their work and ensure they're putting the right one in.

After hearing the 1992 "Mirror Mirror" it's now even more baffling why she didn't have Lord-Alge produce the album. The production on this version is outstanding and he got a great vocal out of her at a time when she wasn't prone to dynamic performances.
While I don't think SA would have been a hit even with a different producer (mainly due to Stevie's image being very unhip), it's still disheartening to think how much better SA could have been with just some minor changes in direction.
