View Full Version : What one artists would you like to see Stevie do a one-off duet with?

Hey guys
I was recently watching Bonnie Raitt''s fantastic ...and Friends dvd and thought how cool it would be if Stevie did the odd unexpected duet with people other than Vanessa Carlton, Sheryl Crow etc. What if she randomly brought the odd person out during live gigs etc?
I thought about this for a second and then I think I came up with a great idea that features one of my favourite arists...
What about a duet between Stevie and Alison Krauss on Beautiful Child?? They're both such fantastic harmony singers and the contrast between Alison's voice and Stevie's could be beautiful to hear. Alison could also do a lovely, mournful fiddle solo during the break. I think it would be beautiful. I think it would be very restrained and not have the big notes at the end, I dunno how that would work, but I'd love to hear them try it!
On that note, here are Heart and Alison doing a fantastic version of These Dreams (Stevie connection!) and what I have in mind for Beautiful Child. So, what random duets do others think would work?

Sorry Dodfather, I'm not impressed. This is the first time I've heard AK sing(I know she's been singing with Robert Plant for many years). If I were at this show I would be greatly dissapointed that they had her sing These dreams. This was Nancy's biggest hit song and I would have been looking forward to Nancy perfroming it, not Alison. After 3 minutes of this I said fukc this bull*****. It sounds too kerokee to me.:sorry:

This surprises me. Alison Krauss (and Union Station) have been hugely successful, multiple Grammy winning since the late 90s (been around a lot longer but didn't become huge until then) and Alison has only done the one album with Robert Plant (Raising Sand) a few years ago and they did one album and tour together, that's all - they've not been working together for many years.
You may know her songs from the Oh Brother, Where Art Thou and Cold Mountain soundtracks?
As for working with Heart I was as surprised as anyone. This is a very unusual style of music for Alison to do - she's a bluegrass artist - but I sill think it works. Oh well, just me I guess.

Lady GaGa, for two reasons.
I think it would be pretty amazing, for one. And, nothing else would give Stevie as much exposure, and it would certainly help boost the sales of IYD. I'd love to see her do something with Heart as well, although, I already like to imagine it really is Stevie singing on There You Go.

Definitely Haley Williams, female lead-singer of the amazing rock band Paramore. Not only does she have an amazing voice and performs in a band with a bunch of guys but they are very popular with the younger generation and have had several big hits including the song "Decode" from the Twilight soundtrack. It would be amazing if they would duet on Moonlight since they both already have the whole Twilight connection. Check her out! She is so young and so brilliant!

Yes!! Hayley is one of my favs and I have wanted her and Stevie to duet for years! Have you seen the video of her working on a new Paramore song called In The Mourning? The guitar in the beginning sounds very much like Landslide! Anywho, you get kudos for mentioning her :) As if you weren't awesome enough in my book already.

Alison krauss has one more Grammys than any other woman...infact she is second only to a symphany conductor for most Grammy won...I think she has won 26 or 27...like Dolly Pardon, she is a class act and can any song and make it her own....her cover version of Heart's "These Dreams" is another example..

I"d like the unexpected duet, something a little more ferocious:
Stevie Nicks & David Bowie, covering his 1982 song "Putting Out Fire." or something even more unexpected like a singing with Depeche Mode, Robyn (acoustically) or Bryan Ferry.

I'd really prefer she do something with someone young to win over the younger audience i.e. the Glee thing. I honestly think that would be the best move career wise (Haley Williams as I suggested) but if it were solely for my listening pleasure I'd have to say Madonna lol. In fact M is recording a new album soon and I think Stevie should make a guest appearance. Then, they could perform it live and pull a Britney/Madonna kiss! :p Stevie would be so into that lol.

I would love to see Stevie do a duet with Pink also...just need to think about what song. I also wish Pink would cover a Stevie song. Pink (ha, I made a rhyme!) is mostly known for her upbeat stuff more so than her calmer stuff ( think- Glitter in the Air- the "calling me sugar, calling me sugar" verse- LOVE IT) but I think she will slow down/evolve in the coming years.
I also would like to see Stevie perform "Sweet Dreams" with Dave Stewart...and if Dave is with her on the upcoming tour I hope hope hope she performs this with him. When I saw Dave in December (Nashville) I (and many other concert goers) crossed our fingers that Stevie would be a surprise guest...But when Dave and Martina McBride did Sweet Dreams I knew Stevie wasn't coming because that would have been the song for her. Martina did a good job...with her cute little twang on the "here comes the rain again" but I kept imagining our girl up there. :)

Ok maybe I'm way off sometimes and dreaming like everyone does, but sometimes I hear such beautifully done songs as this and wonder what if Stevie wrapped her prime 80's voice around such a male vocal like she can and what a new take on this song would be... hmmm is this song too dark for her maybe? I dunno... but to me it's beautiful whenever I play it. I loved APC and this album when it came out years ago and it gets lost in the shuffle sometimes then I'll hear it again and fall in love.

It wasn't Pink, It was Courtney Love & Billy Corgan. Courtney made numerous mentions around 1997 about her desire to write a song for Stevie to record for her next album. Allegedly a song was written called "When It All Falls Apart". Also "Malibu" was originally penned with Stevie in mind, but as the song developed it became more personal to Courtney and she loved it too much so she kept it for Hole's "Celebrity Skin" album. I'm not aware of what ever happened with WIAFA or if Stevie heard it or even ever recorded it during the TISL sessions:shrug: I think it all fell apart when Stevie & Sheryl became friends, then collaborators during 1997 through 1999-ish.

Hmmmm, I've never heard anything about Stevie wanting Pink to write her a song for TISL. You should dig up that article or mention. Pink 1st album came out in 2000 (which was R&B), and she didn't really become huge until the commercial pop/rock success of her 2nd album in the fall of 2001. So I find it hard to imagine Pink would have been on Stevie's radar in the late 90's:shrug:
