View Full Version : Bombshell Tonight: From The ROCK A LITTLE Work Tapes...

I had this really funny Nancy Grace spoof all written, but no one would probably get it. But it was really good... :)

As you may remember, in March a large number of Rock A Little Work Tapes were found in a warehouse. The first batch, commonly known as "The Motherload", was won by someone who has chosen not to share despite repeated contacts. Also, several other single tapes were won, and none of those have been shared with the Stevie community either.

The following songs were won by a GROUP of Stevie Fans FOR Stevie Fans. We had hoped to be able to trade with the winner of The Motherload, but that does not interest him. So, we're sorry this took so long to release, but we were really hoping we would be able to get access to those other songs as well.

All songs are from regular old school cassette tapes, not Master Reels. Therefore, most of the songs have been enhanced for better sound quality, with the work being done by our very own JeffD8382. Only "Imperial Hotel" Take 9 and "Battle Of The Dragon" Takes 2 & 3 have been enhanced of those two songs, nor has the "Rock A Little" Piano Demo, nor ANY of the outtakes of "I Can't Wait". Whenever Jeff has time and the urge, he can do whatever he wants: he's that good! (NO, I will NOT be posting the original links; my mediafire account was too full. You're not missing anything. I'm not re-importing and re-uploading so we can have 3 versions of the same recording floating around in lesser quality, sorry.)

From the Rock A Little Work Tapes is a cassette labeled Sharon's Tape: Stevie Demos 1984. No songs are listed at all, but the tape is 90-minutes full of songs. Aside from the never-before-heard "Priest Of Nothing", Stevie's own version of "You Like Me" is a spectacular find, as is the confirmation that it is from 1984.

"Priest Of Nothing" - Take 2

"Priest of Nothing" is the title that I came up with. Of course, I'm probably wrong and I will cringe years later when Stevie finally releases this incredible song, and I see how wrong my title is and how obvious the real title is. I'm guessing that, in her fresh new love for Joe Walsh in the Summer of 1983 on The Wild Heart Tour, Stevie started listening to some of Joe's earlier releases, and a pair of back-to-back instrumentals on his 1978 album, But Seriously, Folks..., must've intrigued her, causing her to write lyrics to the music to these two tracks ("Inner Tube" and "Theme From Boat Weirdos"). She had already written the lyrics to this song by the time her tour hit Dallas on September 5, 1983. Stevie dedicated "Rhiannon" to "Mr. Joe Walsh! Can he play? Yes, he can! [sings] Can he play? YES, he can!"

But "Priest Of Nothing" is just as much a Stevie Nicks song as any other she wrote over the music track by someone else, like "Battle Of the Dragon", "In Your Dreams", "Running Through The Garden", "City Of Hope", "Stand Back", etc. Stevie wrote the lyrics and the melody for the words.

Lyrics by Stevie Nicks/Music by Joe Walsh, Joe Vitale, Jay Ferguson, Willie Weeks, Bill Szymczyk (music tracks from "Inner Tube" [just Joe Walsh] and "Theme From Boat Weirdos", from 1978's But Seriously, Folks... album)

"Priest Of Nothing" - Take 1
“What was her name?” she said to him
And her friend said nothing for the longest time
Something like your name,
And her friend said nothing for the longest time
And she turned her head and she walked away
And as the Legend says:
"This time you won’t get away...”
Something like that
Poet… priest of nothing… legend
Poet… priest of nothing…

In trouble again for the wrong things...
I didn’t know him, he didn’t know me
There she goes again... Ooh, she says,
“Do you think that this could be the one?”
*
She sees no evil... She’s in love!
Speaks no evil... Well, she’s in love!
I don't think says anything to anyone
Ah ah...
*
Well, I thought that there was a connection
I didn't know why he didn't understand...
There she goes again!
She wants her freedom...
Well, I’m almost there
And I think it’s right...
She sees no evil... She's in love!
Speaks no evil... She's in love!
Well, I don’t think that they say anything to anyone
But you…
Well, I need somewhere to go
I need somewhere...

Ooh, I feel at least that I have the right
To say at least that I miss you...
Well, just remember when you are alone
That it is good what you do...
But there she goes again!
She thinks that this time
Well, this might be the one!*
She sees no evil, she’s in love...
Well, I don’t think that she says anything to anyone
But you...
Well, I need somewhere to go
Well, I need somewhere…

And her friend put her head down on the table
And she cried, and she said,
“Well… can he play?”
Yes, he can!
She said, "Well, can he play?"
Oh, yes, he can!
My friend said, "Can he play?"
And she said, "Yes, he can!"
Well, can I dance with this man?
Yes, I can!!
Ooh, can he play?
I said, "Yes, he can!"
Can he play?
Well, well, yes, he can!
I know...
Can he play?
And I think, "Yes, he can..."

"Priest Of Nothing" - Take 2
“What was her name?” she said to him
And her friend said nothing for the longest time...
Something like your name,
But her friend said nothing for the longest time...
So she turned her head and she walked away
And so the story says:
She said, “You won’t get away this time”
Something like that...
Poet… priest of nothing… legend...
Poet… priest of nothing… legend...

In trouble again for the wrong things...
I didn’t know him, he didn’t know me
There she goes again, and she says,
“Do you think that this could be the one?”

Well, she sees no evil... Well, she’s in love!
And he speaks no evil... She’s in love!
I’m afraid they say anything to anyone...
Oh no… Poet… Secret...

Well, I thought that there was a connection...
Well, I’m almost there
And I think it’s right...
There you go again
Well, I think I meant
"Give me a little time"...

Well, she sees no evil, and she speaks no evil
I don’t think that they say anything to anyone
But you…
Well, I need somewhere to go
I need somewhere...

Oh, just remember when you are alone
That I at least have a right to say I miss you!
I miss you...
Well, just remember when you are alone
That what you do is good...
But there you go again
You want your freedom
Well, I’m almost there
And I think it’s real...

She sees no evil... She’s in love!
And he speaks no evil
I don’t think that they say anything to anyone...
Oh!
Well, I need somewhere to go...
Yeah, I need somewhere…

(And she said, “I’m happy”)
Ooh, and her friend put her head down on the table
And she cried, and she said,
“Well… can he play?”
Ooh, yes, he can!
"Well, can he play?"
And I said "Oh, yes he can!"
And she said, “Well, can you dance with this man?”
And I said, “Well, yes, I can... yes, I can...”
Well, can he play?
Yes!
Can he play?
Well… Can he play?
Yes, he can...
Well, my friend says, “Well, can he play?”
Oh, I said, “Yes he can!”

Also from the Rock A Little Work Tapes is one side of a 90-minute cassette labeled: Stevie Nicks: Various SLN Demos 1985-87. So, this tape encompasses songs written and recorded both before and after Stevie received treatment at the Betty Ford Clinic in Late 1986, since "Welcome To The Room... Sara" is on the cassette. However, no actual dates are listed next to the songs, so we have to make our best guesses.

This is not from the Rock A Little Work Tapes, but a single cassette from The Other Side Of The Mirror Sessions. This version of "Dial The Number" is completely finished, with many overdubs and backing vocals filling in the sound from the original Master Reel To Reels.

And the final batch of songs from the Rock A Little Work Tapes that we won are these many outtakes and mixes of "I Can't Wait". Some of the cassettes were labeled "June 1985" or "06/25/1985", and many times on the inserts was written: "All Mixes By Don Smith". The "Pieces" tape consists of short bits of "I Can't Wait" that were probably being played with to create other unique mixes.

Thank you! Love the new song, especially that first take. And Stevie's version of You Like Me!!! Rocking! So much more to explore that sounds excited. Mike, do you have any favorites of the various outtakes for Battle, Hotel or ICW?

eta: The new LFTM! The other RAL take is my favorite song ever...but this rocks too. :) I was disappointed with her voice on Channel, Channel. Love that song. Also, amazing sound quality of What Has Rock & Roll....

I love "Battle Of The Dragon" Take 3 the best. And Jeff enhanced Take 9 of "Imperial Hotel" since it was my favourite, but Take 2 and Take 6 are just crazy, Stevie all spitting out lyrics!

The first "I Can't Wait" is my favourite, where Stevie SPEAKS:

"How will we feel ten years from now?"

Yes, as far as I know, we've never heard this song before, much less two versions!

And this is where the lyrics: "And I thought that there was a connection..." came from first in 1984!

Last weekend, Mike was cool enough to share with me the "I Can't Wait" tracks and I've had the first version where she speaks on repeat. There's ALOT to absorb here that's quality and this is an impressive motherload - and I'm sure - a costly one. The auctions for these tapes typically escalate into the stratosphere. Mike's atypical in that he shares, whereas others hoard.

The cat's out of the bag regarding another auction that ends shortly, so hopefully we'll have something to ad to this.

Thank you Mike. This is amazing.

(I'm still trying to crack the copy protection on the CD test pressing.)

Rick, thank YOU, and that means a lot that you understand what ALL goes into these things. It's SO worth it, because the songs are AMAZING!!! Whether it's songs or versions we've never heard before ("Priest Of Nothing", "You Like Me", "Lady From The Mountains") or MEGA-UPGRADES ("Welcome To the Room... Sara"), these are incredibly important pieces of Stevie History.

And the HOARDERS do NOT care about that at all.

I had hoped to finish another take of "Imperial Hotel" before today, but it's been a busy week... sorry about that, guys. As soon as I get it done, I will be uploading it to this thread though!

Let me just say a heartfelt thanks to you again, Mike, for all your dedication to these unreleased tracks and to us Stevie fanatics... without you, none of these would have seen the light of day (I am quite sure!) <-- you!

"Tied Up"
"Imperial Hotel"
"If I Were You" (Original Vocal)
"Talk To Me"

"Listen To The Rain" (1991 TimeSpace version)

Hopefully, those tapes will also be shared with all of us, like our Group did! :)

Thank you so much in advance, I can't wait to DL some of these. There is so much to DL so I've made notes on what you said you liked the best and I'll probably just start with those. For some reason the links are not working for me on my work pc. UGH! From your comment below, would you be willing to upload these 3 to megaupload or filesonic?

"I love "Battle Of The Dragon" Take 3 the best.

If you can't it's fine, I can wait until I get home to try again.

Thanks :-)

LOVING Take 3 of ''I Can't Wait''. I can see why they used the first ever take for the song..but hearing it sung differently in parts is interesting.

What was Stevie and Co thinking when they put You Like Me into the vault/recording by another artist. With some of these demos/outtakes, Rock a Little could have been a great album. I remember reading it as being one of her most arresting songs in years. No kidding! Great, friggin' song!

Whew! Glad it's back up! SEVERAL times when I was uploading the last few weeks, Mediafire would crap out on me! Boo!!!

Everyone is very, very welcome, and I am very thankful to all of the people who have shared with me over the years as a Stevie Fan!!! ALL our Group cared about was making sure these Tapes were NOT hoarded and were made available to the entire Stevie Community.

I'm hoping this also inspires others to share as well. We ALL benefit, right?

Whoa!! This is a lot to take in...I started downloading last night & finished this morning - just beginning to digest some of these tracks. Always *amazing* to discover a new demo (Priest Of Nothing). Not enough words to express my thanks to you...Mike, and the "GROUP of Stevie Fans" that won this auction and shared :D Many blessings to you & also to JeffD8382 for enhancing some of these old 80's cassette transfers!!

Here are some exciting discoveries for me so far.

"You Like Me" 84' demo - Until now I only imagined what Stevie's version would sound like. So cool!! even though this one still sounds like a rough draft & a work in progress, But I "Dig it"
"Something Exquisite" - another great new take of one of my Top 20 RAL demos & outtakes. Especially love the "woo woo woo's" & Stevie's intriguing subdued & more controlled vocal throughout. I think this take is a sound upgrade from the other heavily circulated outtake, unless it's just Jeff's magic. Ooh la la...
"Running Through The Garden" Take 1 & 2 - Another one of my very favorite RAL outtakes:D
"Battle Of The Dragon" Takes 1-4 nuff said!
"Priest Of Nothing" or "Yes, He Can" (knowing Stevie, that or "The Legend" could also be her title LOL) - though a bit rambling, this song has some essence to it that possibly could've been refined. Still a very interesting song & vocal adding another dimensional insight about Stevie & Joe's 83"-84" on again off again era.
"Welcome To The Room, Sara" - always loved this demo. Had more potential in it, than the final version realized imo.
"Dial The Number" - never a complete fan or champion of this song, but it's fantastic to hear a final mix from early 89' (so close to OSOTM release date). Much better than the outtakes with the full presentation of backing vocals etc. It's easy to see why this song never made a record. It's a little woozy and feather light - complete with Kenny G sax fills for extra sleepiness - but still great fun for us fans to have & listen to unashamedly:p

Now onto listen to the Imperial Hotel & I Can't Wait takes. Glorious. Simply glorious!

Aside from the guy who got the Motherload, there are SEVERAL individual tapes that were won and have NOT yet been shared:

"Tied Up"
"Imperial Hotel"
"If I Were You" (Original Vocal)
"Talk To Me"
"Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You?"
"Listen To The Rain" (1991 TimeSpace version)

Hopefully, those tapes will also be shared with all of us, like our Group did! :)

Gahhh, All these "work tape" discoveries only make me painfully realize all the demos & outtakes that we have not heard! It makes you wonder if there is a market for Stevie to release some of these gems on an official bootleg collection release or just release Stevie's remastered & expanded 1st 3 solo cds - though I'm afraid, the more time that passes... the reality of which truly vanishes, esp with the tattered music industry & actual CD sales declining. Argggg...all the possibilities. It's also probably a lot of work to sort through all the massive amounts of material. Though I'm sure many fans would be obliged to sort through it for free ;)

We can only hope whoever won the "motherload" work tapes changes their minds about sharing. The other half of the experiencing Stevie's demos & outtakes is sharing with other true fans who love these new discoveries & can enjoy, discuss and dissect interesting parts of Stevie's recording history for more insight & posterity, but never for personal profit.

Thank you thank you thank you. I, like so many others here, are totally indebted to you for putting all this time and work into these. I'm so happy right now.

I Can't Wait has always had a sense of mystery to me. The spoken word sample... I swear all this time I thought was "how will we feel twenty years from now looking back" but it's clearly "how will we feel ten years from now waking up" . And I was convinced it was a sample from something but it's obvious now that the first one (from the 45 mix) actually is Stevie and the main one from the bridge is one of the girls. And when Stevie said in the liner notes for TimeSpace that she sang it "only once" but the 12" had the alternate take of "well she dances around in a circle". I thought, hey, she didn't sing it only once. But now you can tell it was just replaced with the guitar solo. And I find it kind of fascinating that the little tinkly part seems to have been added later because it's not in any of the mixes here. And thank you so much for the rock dub mix. I've been looking for a good version of that for ages. I love the ending so much. Yay!

Christopher, those songs I listed, while some were in the Motherload, were ALSO individual tapes that the Seller auctioned off. And NONE of them went to the winner of the Motherload. They all went to different buyers.

So, even if the Motherload winner chooses not to share (and he has so chosen), there are still several tapes out there with the potentiality of being shared with all of us.

But let me remind us all what the Winner of the Motherload has all to himself:

ROCK A LITTLE:
This appears to be the work tapes that were used to produce "Rock A Little" released Nov. 1985
There is at least one work tape of every song on the "Rock A Little" album, plus:
One work tape of Talk To Me - says: "In My Living Room (chas)" ???
Plus 2 work tapes of "Tied Up"
One says: Jimmy, Come On Back - orig track / Tied Up (w/obj)
Two says: Tied Up - She Loves Him Still
Two tapes dated after the album release:
One: 2-4-86 tape of I Can't Wait
Two: 2-6-86 tape of Nightmare #6
Three (3) SPECIAL sealed tapes of "Rock A Little" -
Says: "LENT FOR PROMOTIONAL USE ONLY"

TIMESPACE:
The finished MASTER of "TimeSpace" dated 6-4-91 released Sept. 1991
Photo #8 is the front and photo #9 is the back of this tape
Note that the songs are in the exact order of the released tape

PLUS:
A tape marked Demo's, (photo #10)
a tape marked "Battle of the Dragon's" (photo #11)
and a tape marked "Belladonna" (photo #12)

HISTORY:
These tapes were found in a cassette case marked Mark Paladino assumed to be in the photo
There is little doubt that these are the "REAL THING" - I am cleaning up the warehouse
of a seller that purchases storage lockers that are up for auction. I have been told that they
previously sold a lot of Stevie Nicks memorabilia - these must have been overlooked
they did not see the value in them - I have spent about 6 hours just researching these tapes.
The little yellow tag's on the #3 photo are mine. You get it all - including my notes.
If you would like to know more or see more photos - Please contact me.
I am very anxious to see this extraordinary collection of Stevie Nicks memorabilia
fall into the hands of someone that will really appreciate them.

"Stevie Nicks - Rising Fortunes"

Some tapes are "Bernie Grundman Mastering studio"

Every song on ROCK A LITTLE album, PLUS:
"Talk To Me"
"Jimmy, Come On Back" ~ 2
"Tied Up" ~ 2
"She Loves Him Still" ~ 2
"I Can't Wait"
"The Nightmare"
"Battle Of The Dragon"
"You Change Sides" ~ "Mabel Normand" ~ 2
"Strange Misgiving" ~ "Something Exquisite"
"Why Are We Doing This Again?" (is it "Long Way To Go"?)
"Not A Matter Of The Heart" ~ "Long Way To Go" or "Love Don't Fail Me Now"?
"Chanel, Chanel"
"Whole Lotta Trouble"
"Ooh My Love" - 1985
"Mirror, Mirror"

These were in the Motherload, all of it. Similar tapes were in different auctons, and ARE OUT THERE.

They'll surface. They always do...just takes time. I used to semi-be in a Stevie group that would collect and purchase these, but so few were on Ebay then. This was purchasing from people in LA & NY. Prolly all that I have from then is shared and available now, but I should go thru what I have...it's been years, and since my move, I have discovered that I am missing an entire cd case of boots =0( I have a ton of stuff on tape. Again, prolly old news, but I should send them to whatever awesome person is transferring them over.

Yes, you should! :) Send me a message!

Not "everything" gets out necessarily. Three years ago, 2 different tapes were sold on eBay for gigantic amounts:

"I Call You Missing" from Street Angel

"Silent Night" - 1987 Demo

Neither has EVER shown up or been shared in any kind of wide circulation.

But, yeah, open your Vaults!!! :)

Well, I did live in OKC from February-April 1988 for Air Traffic Controller training (I left that job in Houston after 2 years). In OKC then, I bought Stevie's Red Rocks VHS the day of release! I was last in Tulsa in July 2001 for my job with GAP, when the big GAP in that mall was renovated/remodeled/moved. At that very mall I bought the "Planets Of The Universe" CD-Single the day of release!!!!!!!

I may have to make it up there for that ROUND of drinks one day!

I'm just glad people are reacting positively to Stevie's incredible songs!

Thanks for all of these fascinating tracks and outtakes. What I appreciate most is the outtake of Dial The Number. It's one of my favorite rarites. Though it's been around for a while in various incarnations, it's amazing to hear/have the final version - the one that would have been on the The Other Side of the Mirror. The background vocals are great!

Another favorite is Something Exquisite. Is the enhanced version the original version, or was it altered by an outside source?

I was hoping that Priest of Nothing would be good. It does have some good parts, but the "lyrics" blather on. It seems that Stevie sometimes does not have her lyrics set in a cohesive manner, and just rattles on with whatever words come to mind. There is a lot of emotion, but the result is unlistenable in it's rawness. Thankfully, those ramblings get pared down to more concise, structured verses. I hoped the You Like Me would have the tight structure it has on the Williams Brothers' version, but alas, no!

I feel foolish for it never crossing my mind before that the whole "Priest of nothing.........." "...I thought there was a connection" could possibly be from a different Stevie song that was in the back of her mind.
I'm loving this newly discovered song! Someone needs to bring it to Dave's attention - I think he could work wonders with it. It sounds like it could've fit on In Your Dreams.

I also wanna give a big THANK YOU to jeff for all his time put into enhancing, and all those who contributed $$ for getting these demos. Next time something like this goes down, I will definitely be game for donating a little :)

You're one of my heroes, David! Thank you for the compliment!

Holding out HOPE is never a worthless thing. I ALWAYS believed I would hear Stevie's version of "You Like Me" ~ and now we have! And it's BETTER Than I imagined it would be!

You know I want soundboard perfection of "Gypsy" and "Rhiannon" from 1983 (and all of the other songs Stevie performed, too), so hoping/visualizing/whatever may actually work for us one day.

I'm always searching and scouring, my feelers out everywhere. I have a few leads on OTHER stuff that has slipped under the radar over the years, which I might be lucky enough to unearth soon. Too early to tell.

But I am ALWAYS wide-eyed for 1983 Anything!

BTW, do I have permission to post your 4 songs from the Mulholland 1985 concert? The Seller included that tape in the "I Can't Wait" purchase.

Thank you so much for sharing these, Mike, and for all the effort that went into doing so. I truly appreciate your generosity, as well as the meticulous detail in the information you provide.

These are amazing!!! Any time there is a newly-found Stevie track is a momentous occasion. Makes you wonder how much is still out there that we have to look forward to hearing someday... LFTM has always been my favorite demo, and I loooove this different take on it, with the gently-swaying beat. And I am tripping out over all these ICW mixes, and the raw IH vocals! Why did Stevie give YLM away? Her version rocks! Even this DTN is an improvement. So, so much to absorb... thank you again!

I've never been one who cares for Imperial Hotel, but these outtakes are really changing my mind! Take #2 so far has my vote.... :D But I haven't listened to all of them yet...

I'm guessing Side A ended after Take #4 of BOTD? I'm just curious for as to when I burn these to discs. I guess it doesn't really matter as to where I decide to end disc 1 and start up disc 2; but that would make the most sense for burning them though (for me) being as all those Imperial Hotels would be on a disc themselves.

And being a completist that I am, I don't want to mess around with things for if I ever am giong to be trading these with someone. So burning one disc per "side" would make the most sense? How is this usually done? (I've never been around when a NEW stevie compilation has been leaked!) :P

Daniel, they are not in order, except for the "I Can't Wait"s. Not all of the takes were together, back-to-back. Not all of the "Imperial Hotel"s and "Battle Of The Dragon"s were together. On my original notes (which, yes, my dog ate on Friday!) towards the end of Sharon's Tape Side 2, after "Lady From The Mountains" (I think), I wrote: "'Imperial Hotel' AGAIN?? Another version!!!" :)

These aren't Reels or anything, just compilation tapes for Sharon or whoever to listen to. I put the Takes together for ease and convenience. Uploading these took FOREVER, and I had a system going on to make it easiest.

At least I kept the tapes separate in my links, even if the songs are NOT in the order they were on the tapes.

First of all, can I just tell you that I don't even remember the last time I visited The Ledge let alone posted anything. I kind of got away from Stevie and FM for a several years, but recently- with the new album and going to the Wiltern show- my passion for their music has been reinvigorated!

Thanks. Hope you feel better soon too.

It takes FOREVER to get rid of one of these things. This is the first time I ever had a severe sinus infection of any kind. I was traveling on Memorial Day weekend and must have come into contact with something that set off an allergic reaction or something.
I am just glad I did not have this during the Wiltern Show because my hearing was so blocked would not have enjoyed the show as much, so there is one silver lining there.

But I am just so tickled pink we have these new work tapes to tide us over until the new single gets released with video (crossing my fingers) and the possible tour. Great timing!

Here in Texas, "Battle Of The Dragon" got played big-time on the rock radio stations in Summer 1986, much more than the then-current single, "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You?".

Mike, if we were to add up all the unreleased songs culled from these tapes, master reels, etc. about how many albums do you think we have? This material could generate countless acoustic records, alternate version albums, live albums, a whole album of Rhiannon songs, etc. If you think about, just because dozens and dozens of her songs didn't materialize on a commercial release doesn't mean they don't exist. She did the work. Albums are just collections of songs and now that itunes and the digital download age will makes them intangible (and CDs soon obsolete), Stevie has recorded more albums than she's given credit for. A lot more. I never seem to run out of new stuff to listen to.

The postman just picked up the package headed your way.

Daniel, I don't mind, I just dread the "sound degradation" whining down the line. Just like the "Look what I found on YouTube!" threads, which is great the songs are there, but then people do a cheapo transfer and there are 5000 variations of crappy sound. Which is exactly what we've been trying to undo after the 30+ years of Stevie's unreleased recordings circulating around in less-than-stellar condition/sound quality.

But I don't mind in the least, please do so. All I'm doing is stating future dread. Which is silly of me.

But they are not my songs at all. And I'd prefer more people hear them and enjoy them. MP3 Players and all that, yep. Go for it! :)

Just thought I'd add that for those that use iTunes, you can convert your .wav or other file types to .mp3 format (if your portable device doesn't support them).

Right click on the song/s and there should be a "convert to mp3". You are able to highlight multiple.

This will give you 2 copies of each song though, (one .wav one mp3) so you can either keep both or delete one. Scrolling to the side should have the file types, if not you will need to add "Type" to your toolbar at the top. The one with song, artist etc.

:) Hopefully that can help someone

This is true. Luckily, with the way digital media is now we won't have a problem keeping the original sources close at hand :)
I still can't believe the gold mine that you hit. lol. Maybe that SA batch you got will finally have that version of "I Call You Missing" you've always been looking for :)

I'll probably upload the mp3s tomorrow or Thursday, depending how things are looking. I'm still downloading all those I Can't Wait tracks.

@Stevie's Prince - thanks for sharing that with us on how to convert to mp3 :) I'm probably still going to post them though just for people who don't have enough room to download all those WAV tracks in the first place. They are short parts of "I Can't Wait" used for remixes. Different instrumental breaks that the remixer (Don Smith) was using to create different mixes. They are very cool to me.

I've only had a limited time this week to listen to these gems but plan on doing it in it's entirely tomorrow. I have heard Channel, Channel. Let's talk about that pls. I mean, she obviously had no lyrics written for this and was basically singing/talking out of her ass on these 2 versions. The version we've had is much more complete but there's something about rambling Stevie that is so desireable...

So for those of you that have downloaded and listened, share your thoughts!!

Hi Jake... I think what you are hearing there is just a synthesizer/keyboard... but it probably is meant to sound like a harmonica or possibly even an accordion. It's funny because the first couple of times I listened through (or as Stevie might say, I listened through it, not to it :p), I missed that for some reason... then all of a sudden it was like... hmm... that's an interesting choice!

After some time to take these in, there are a few tracks that stand out for me.

I'm really enjoying You Like Me, and would love to have heard a completed version by Stevie. Both cuts of Running Through The Garden are great and probably my favorite of all of these songs. I'm really loving Lady From The Mountain, but not as much I thought I would at first listen.

I was most excited about the Imperial Hotel demos, but after listening to them far too many times to distinguish their differences I burnt myself out on it. Some of the lyrical differences for the released version are great, but if I don't hear these again for a while I'll be ok.

Running Through the Garden from these tapes is vastly superior to the flat, sleepwalking production/arrangement on Say You Will. There's definitely some mid-80s cheese in regard to keyboards, etc. but these are unfinished, etc. So many of her demos have an unpredictability that's more exciting than the overworked production on the retail versions suggests. I guess that's purely subjective on my part, but as more and more of these non-FM tapes surface, the evidence builds that the members of the FM really can take equal credit for the successes and failures in the studio.

RTTG is probably my favorite song on SYW - one of the only ones I still listen to regularly from that album.

I've given my opinion on the demos before - a handful of them are songs that I'd listen to as they are just for enjoyment. But with most of them, it's clear why they never ended up any albums. As for the ones that were eventually recorded, the album versions are always or nearly always superior - but it's interesting to listen to the demos to just to compare and have some glimpse into the process of turning them into the finished works.

I do, too. The Street Angel version would be better with less backing vocals, and a little more of that 80's thump put back in.

In the end, I love them both. :)

Concerning the demos I respect your opinion. But in my opinion Stevie goes into the studio and spends thousands of dollars to destroy her songs. I almost always like the demos better than the released versions, with a few exceptions. For example, I've never liked any of the GYPSY demos but the released version is brilliant.

Hello everyone...

I just went through the list and realized that the 2 "Running Through The Garden"s that are shared in the initial post were the first "enhanced" versions I did. I subsequently re-enhanced them and did a speed-adjustment. I think Mike probably meant to share the "speed-adjusted" versions. It was a little confusing because I had re-worked these tracks a couple of times, so it got a little crazy LOL! I believe these versions are playing at the speed they were recorded at...

Man, I really can't thank you enough for your generosity, humor and loyalty to us fellow Stevie/Mac Nuts. Haha. Like, Mick's...nevermind...gross...really gross.
In all sincerity...I use a computer by phone mostly these days. Ever since I started a non contractual thing with my friend...(after swearing off Hollywood shi* as I really like the sinking into some suburb, nowhere...and having real people and love around me in stead of in LA) I am on a non stop race to this and that...I am like tied to a helicopter propeller and Stevie spinning off into space. I have lost so much in East Coast, West Coast...lending, leaving, losing...my stuff...my Stevie Stuff...its great to rely on a guy like you...you have this Lust For Life thing...your enthusiasm is contagious ...And now to have more of these priceless gifts that I get on my phone and have it backed up some where in Android space makes my sudden return to old chaos that much more bearable. Life is short for grudges, regret, jealousy, pettiness...you know? You are admirable to add much more time of your long days to do Stevie projects for us...you are the best. Here is a still of my friend and I taken not too long ago. Yep, we made it. Thank you.

Thanks a lot~ wow!!!

I have to give credit: I lost a LOT of my Stevie rarities in a move in 2006, since I hadn't uploaded them to my computer yet. My only CDs left were the Masters~ hooray for that! I'd find songs here and there, but it wasn't until reconnecting to The Ledge in 2009 that I began getting back everything that I lost. This, in turn, got me back in touch with some friends from the old Master Reels days, which led to us being on the lookout for any Stevie tapes on eBay.

I love Stevie's music more every day, and 2011 has just been the most incredible year for her and her fans in many ways! Viva Stevie!

Im afraid...when I post due to inadequate credentials I get then thinner thinnerly veiled zings and humph...dismissals...and such. Hey, it doesn't hurt me, you don't even know me...but this is a Kingdom...the queens are often hold court, planning a sharp claw to an innocent.

No more snaps...

I wish I could say I was drunk when I wrote this...damn. I think I was trying to say, Don't hit me but...she sounds soooo messed up. Wild Heart/Rock A Little...

God.
oh yeah...I grabbed this song and had it on a tiny speaker in the bathroom...and I had to make sure the volume/phone wasn't as f'd up as she sounded. Am I wrong? Did I get a back coed?

Thanks...I'm so excited to find all this fabulous music...a lot of my old underground stuff was on tape and cd's that long ago quit working. Thanks again for generously sharing this Wonderful Music!

I never heard that. I thought the 15th track was what your friend discovered, "Shadow Of My Shadow".
