I just wanted to see what everyone's thoughts are now that we've had "In Your Dreams" for a month????
With any album- when I first purchase a cd there's a rush of excitement or high expectations or unmet expectations that effect my initial opinions on the cd. These preliminary opinions start to change and take shape after a few weeks of listening. I think I now know my true thoughts about In Your Dreams.
First - thank you, Stevie...this is a thoughtful, well produced, well written album. I believe it is better than her last three albums - TISL, SA & OSOTM...If "In Your Dreams" had been the same caliber of TISL I would have been thrilled..but it exceeded it!! How it ranks with her first three cds - I'm not sure (that can be debated forever)
No one could have ever convinced me that Stevie would be re-energized to this degree. It must be due to the production of Mr Stewart. She brought up her song writing expertise to BellaDona, Rumors & Tusk levels - Moonlight, FWIW, NO, WSS, IS are classics that may never see radio play but they rank up there with true Stevie classics...I think that Lindseys involvement in Soilders Angels reminded me how "heavy" his involvement/production can take Stevie's music...(Especially in her later work - Say You Will songs, for example). Dave Stewart managed to lift her music to a lighter level but still maintaining the atmosphereic mood of Stevie's music....I love how her voice is clear and clean on these tracks...I would have wished for a little more "wild" Stevie at the end of a few of these songs...and if there had been a few "crazy Stevie" moments on IYD this would have ranked as Stevie's best work for me... What does everyone else think?????
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Stevie!!!

After a month I still love In Your Dreams and still consider it Nicks' best solo album ever. There are so many strong songs on this album that it's difficult to choose favorites or to choose what should be singles. Stevie deserves to be very proud of this album.

You scared me for a second, I thought you were breaking up with IYD
I love it as much as the first time I heard it. I still kinda prefer it without My Heart, even though the song is ok, I got used to the standard cd from listening to the Rolling Stone stream. Every song is so unique, they seem modern and classic at the same time. I just wish they would release a good single (Moonlight, IYD) so more people could hear this amazing album.

I actually think I listen to "New Orleans" the most followed by "Moonlight" then "For What It's Worth"

I still think it is her most consistently strong album since the early 1980s and listen to it almost as much as a month ago.I really hope this is the start of a new burst of musical creativity for Stevie.

My CD is still in the car, in near constant rotation. I can't get it in the house long enough to rip. I really love this album. I agree about not loving it as much as BD or WH, but do love it more than TISL, SA, OSOTM and maybe even RAL.
I think Dave, Glenn and Chris Lord-Algae have done a FABulous job with the technical aspects. They deserve a LOT of credit. In my opinion, if it weren't for them, this album would be skating on the lack-luster side of things.
Stevie's vocals really do shine throughout on this work. It's exciting to hear. I love that she's added a bit of jazz and pizazz to her styling. "At Last" has always been a favorite of mine. I wish she would record more songs like that.
In my heart of hearts, I would love to see this album take off. There are more than a few cuts that would make the grade for regular rotation on adult contemporary. I couldn't say that about TISL, even in the honeymoon phase.

At first I was impressed with the new songs and then for a short while it was no big deal to me. Then I decided that I really wanted to enjoy this record so I started listening again. Sapphire Sister sent me a copy to play in my car. I spend a lot of my life driving and while I did play it in the house, these songs came to more of a vibrant life on my car speakers.
I listen to the CD a lot and really enjoy most of the songs. The Ghosts are Gone is a song I know I should really love, but it's missing something and I cannot pinpoint what it is. The live version of TGAG from the Wiltern is very enjoyable to me and I loved watching her be so into it while performing it. The title track didn't click with me like it has with most of you but it is slowly growing on me. And I do mean slowly.
New Orleans is my favorite song. I was so excited to hear it since I first heard her sing part of it on the Unleashed Tour.
From the sizzle reel of WSS Stevie speaks, "And even though they were so in love, they drew a line in the sand just because." I have to admit I was and still am dissapointed that she sings it in the song. I really wanted her to stop singing and speak the line and then continue singing again. I thought that would have added a nice, smooth touch of class to the song.
My favorite songs in this order:
01. New Orleans
02. Moonlight
03. Everybody Loves You
04. Anabel Lee
05. Soldier's Angel
06. You May Be The One
07. Wide Sargasso Sea
08. Italian Summer
09. For What It's Worth
10. Cheaper Than free
11. The Ghosts Are Gone
12. My Heart
13. Secret Love
14. In Your Dreams

I still love the album but am terribly burned out on it, so I haven't been listening to it for the past 2-3 weeks. I definitely don't think this is the best work of Stevie's career, but I do think it's in her top 3 solo albums (#1 Bella Donna, #2 Rock A Little, #3 In Your Dreams). I still think Stevie's best work was on the first 4 Mac studio albums, though... with Tusk containing both the best singing & songwriting of her career.
Surprisingly, In Your Dreams also won't be my fav new album of 2011 either. That prize goes to Joseph Arthur's new album, Graduation Ceremony. Still, In Your Dreams is a solid album and I'm so glad we have it. :) I hope more than anything that it will be a catalyst for new material from both Stevie & especially Fleetwood Mac. In Your Dreams proves that Stevie still has something to say, and is still very much a viable artist.

I listen to it when I'm in the car. I'm in TX, so that's a lot.
I like the album quite a bit, but it lacks many of the Stevie-isms (esp. the layered vocals & WTH-is-she-talking-about lyrics) that I love so much, so it's not at the top of my rankings.
Bella Donna
Rock a Little
The Wild Heart
In Your Dreams
Trouble in Shangri-la
Street Angel
The Other Side of the Mirror

Still listening to it, not burned out at all. Current favorites (not in any order):
- Moonlight
- Annabel Lee
- Wide Sargasso Sea
- Secret Love
- My Heart
- For What it's Worth
- In Your Dreams
- Ghosts Are Gone
- Italian Summer
As far as her solo albums go, I'd also put it in the top 3:
1. Bella Donna
2. Rock a Little
3. In Your Dreams
4. The Other Side of the Mirror
5. Trouble in Shangri-La
6. The Wild Heart
7. Street Angel

I'd put it as the 3rd best after Bella Donna and The Wild Heart. The only track that I usually skip is Cheaper Than Free, although New Orleans is startying to grate on me a bit but that just could be the mood I'm in. Otherwise I think it's an incredibly consistent record.

In Your Dreams is number 2 in my book, right behind Bella Donna. It's like listening to the radio. There is soo much variety on this record and it all works. It's like she successfully dipped within each genre.
Bella Donna was a short album. It's just about perfection maybe because it's soo short. And it has great atmspheric hits and some real gems that aren't hits.
In Your Dreams doesn't have any big song. However, it's got a bunch of songs that I think in the day would of hit in the 20s and 30s of the top 40. In Your Dreams, Moonlight, You May Be the One, Everybody Loves You, Ghosts are Gone, Cheaper then Free and Italian Summer all sound like hits to me in one way or another. And Soldier's Angel and New Orleans are atmospheric, political songs that work very well as thoughtful pieces. Secret Love, Annabelle Lee and For What's it Worth I like too for different reasons but I don't go back to those too often. I do love the bridge in Annabelle Lee. Secret Love is kinda funky but the sound is not as endearing to me. For What it's Worth is touching but too straightforward and simple. I would of liked a change up like the other songs.
In Your Dreams ranks higher to me than the Wild Heart because the Wild Heart never really flowed. Stevie's voice sounds 10 times better on In Your Dreams. The Wild Heart is also Stevie's most dated album because of the synthesizors.
I blew off In Your Dreams for about 2 weeks but then I had to drive a long distance to a hospital and it was in my truck and I realized just what a good album it is. On the surface the album hits all the right notes, but on deeper levels it does too, especially that last half the album. This album is sooo suprisingly deep. It really is better than the radio.
So my list is
1. Bella Donna
2. In Your Dreams
3. The Wild Heart
4. Rock a Little/Trouble and Shangri La
5. The Other Side of the Mirror/Street Angel

I love all of the songs on the album. The only 2 that I ever skip are 'Ghosts Are Gone' and 'Cheaper Than Free'
Album-wise, I rank it as so:
1- Belladonna
2- In Your Dreams
3- Rock A Little
4- The Wild Heart
5- Trouble In Shangri-La
6- The Other Side of the Mirror
7- Street Angel

The only songs I tend to skip are "Wide Sargasso Sea" (just because I can't really sing along to it) and "Soldier's Angel", again because it's tough to sing along with. But "Moonlight", "Annabel Lee", "For What It's Worth", "Everybody Loves You", "Ghosts Are Gone" and "Italian Summer" are the favorites.
Still can't rank the album with the others, as I see it as a stand alone kind of thing. But if I had to put it alongside the others, I guess it would look like this:
Bella Donna
In Your Dreams
The Wild Heart
Trouble In Shangri-La
The Other Side Of The Mirror
Rock A Little
Street Angel

I listened to it multiple times every day for the last month. The crazy thing is, 2 days ago I didn't listen to it at all...by accident. I didn't leave the house and I was so busy doing other things that it just kind of slipped by me. It wasn't until the end of the day that I realized I hadn't had my In Your Dreams fix.
That being said, I still can't rank the album with her other work. It's still too new to me. I have also tried to rank the songs, can't do it. I can say that Ghosts are Gone kind of pulls me out of the mood of the album. I've tried re-sequencing my playlist, and that didn't help at all. I like the song, it just doesn't fit the rest of the album for me. I also tend to skip You May Be The One. Everything else I play over and over.
The other problem? merging these songs into a Stevie playlist!!! Too HARD!!
Maybe this album just needs to stand alone. And I mean that in the best way possible.

Don't apologize. You can't force yourself (or be forced) to like something.
I'm still in love with IYD. Some songs (Moonlight, FWIW) still bring tears to my eyes and/or give me chills.
Best tunes for me:FWIW
You May Be The One
In Your Dreams
Moonlight
Annabel Lee
In Your Dreams
Good, solid songs
Ghosts Are Gone
Wide Sargasso Sea
Secret Love
My Heart
Still iffy on these
Italian Summer (the music & vocal are stunning. The lyrics? Not so much.)
Soldier's Angel (love the haunting quality, but her voice is a bit too nasal for my taste. You know how ChiliD said Dave Stewart deserves an award for de-goating her voice? Well, LB shows up & the goatiness returns. :p It's also a bit...I dunno. Self-serving? Like, really Stevie? You know how it feels for these people? Being in Fleetwood Mac is like being in the army, right? )
New Orleans (Cheeesy to me, esp. the lyrics. But I find myself sining along more & more so I guess it's growing on me.)
Can't do it
Everybody Loves You. I almost always skip it. Do.Not.Like. The brigde is great (I think you'd call that part a bridge? The "bird on a wire" part?) Other than that, I loathe it. It's this album's 2 Kinds Of Love. Barf. it's the music, really - the lyrics aren't too bad. But the music? Oy. It hurts my everything.

I enjoy the album. I still feel like something is missing from it that I just can't figure out. I really love Annabel Lee, Moonlight, In Your Dreams, and You May Be the One. I very much dislike For What It's Worth. I like Everybody Loves You more than I originally thought I would. I like Italian Summer less than I thought I would.

I still think it's a great album, it's probably tied with TISL and just behind Bella Donna and TWH, for me. Now that I don't care about listening to each song equally, the three songs I listen to the most are For What It's Worth, New Orleans and Everybody Loves You. All three of them just work for me.

Still blown away by this record! I wore it out the 1st 3 weeks (including the RS preview week stream) so much that I laid off it for almost a couple of weeks. But every time since I've returned to it, I'm still so impressed with the quality of *everything* about this record. To me it has a timeless quality - IYD is a record I know I will continue to enjoy for the remaining months of 2011 and many years to come. She just HAS to tour behind this record.
Though I skipped over "Secret Love" (due to fatigue) initially upon IYD release, after absorbing the rest of the record, SL is back in rotation and I do love it in the context of the whole record. My one and only tiny complaint is the track sequencing, but otherwise IYD is one solid work where I like or LOVE every single song - which has not happened on a Stevie Nicks record since BD, WH & RAL (TISL came close) & the 75' through 82' Stevie FM songs. When Stevie 1st began recording IYD, I just knew Dave & her had the mindset that this record better be great, coming off the heels of a 10 year drought and TISL being a good return for her. But IYD exceeds TISL on so many levels. It's a mature & wise record lyrically with the musical sophistication that I always knew Stevie could achieve with the right team. It's almost perfect to my ears. This is the "one" I've been waiting for from Stevie since "Bella Donna" It only took 30 years with a few missteps here and there along the way, but it seems it was worth the wait. What a sweet dream this record is for this fan who fell hard for Stevie 30 years ago and never wavered in fandom (even during the wonky klonopin years)

I still love IYD. Though not as I intensely as I did. The problem.....As with most of Stevie's work is she does not know how to edit to save her life. The album is far to bloated....songs and song times could have been cut. It's still my 2nd favorite Stevie album. Just could have used trimming is all.

A month in and In Your Dreams is still in my car CD player, playing loudly everytime I need to drive somewhere. New Orleans is actually growing on me, so that leaves Soldier's Angel and Ghost Are Gone as the only songs to get skipped. If I'm listening to them at home, I dont skip anything.
I'm really loving this album, still. I do feel it's Stevie's best collection of songs since The Wild Heart. That's not to say it's my favorite, or that I think it's better than the albums in between WH and IYD, but just that I think it's a great album overall.
The tracks mix very well with Bella Donna, Street Angel and much of TISL, and that's been fun too, making playlists.

I still think it's her best ever. Still think it should be taken as one whole statement rather than chopped into individual tracks. She should've done Prince's trick of making the entire album one track, to FORCE everyone into listening to the thing as a whole instead of going into ADD mode and listening to one track at a time, skipping tracks, etc.
Yes, believe it or not, I STILL don't have a track on the album that I would skip.

I couldn't agree with you more. I have IYD on repeat in my car since I got it and have not tired of it yet. I found some of the songs were re-energized for me once I saw the LIVE videos from the Wiltern also. Especially Moonlight! I am forever grateful to Dave for making the process fun for Stevie, I think that had alot to do with it. In one of the articles recently she talked about how Dave would suggest things to her and she would be more open to them then in the past when Lindsey would try to change something. I think she felt "heard" by Dave and their collaboration was epic in my eyes.  from me....

I agree, the live videos from Wiltern reignited my interests in the song, Moonlight. I am soooo hoping that her recent experience with Dave will tempt Stevie to put out more music in the new thirty six months..I don't care if it's a movie soundtrack, fleetwood album, duets album, standards cd, buckingham/nicks album or new solo project...she needs to keep moving forward.

I feel like the album should have been called Moonlight instead of In Your Dreams. It's in almost everyone's Top 5 in this and almost every other thread about favorite songs. It's important to have a strong title track to anchor the album, which kind of goes back to having a strong theme or concept to tie the whole thing together. But more importantly, "Moonlight" embodies the quintessential Stevie Nicks experience... love, longing, and Rhiannon.

It's so beautiful. That falsetto at the end? Jesus.

After a month, here's more or less my final ranking of the album, tracks 1-7 being my favorites. I don't listen to tracks 8-14 anymore. They have been deleted from my iPod!
01. Moonlight
02. Annabel Lee
03. In Your Dreams
04. Italian Summer
05. Secret Love
06. Cheaper Than Free
07. My Heart
08. Everybody Loves You
09. You May Be The One
10. Wide Sargasso Sea
11. New Orleans
12. For What It's Worth
13. Ghosts Are Gone
14. Solider's Angel
Daniel, I almost agree with your list EXCEPT, how can you get rid of "For What It's Worth"? That is my favorite, in fact, that is the song that ultimately saves the CD for me. I really only like 4 songs. The moment I heard FWIW I knew it would become an instant favorite. It's so heartfelt and genuine - oh Daniel LOL.
The main 4 songs I listen to are:
Moonlight
For What It's Worth
In Your Dreams
Secret Love
Honorable mentions:
Annabel Lee
New Orleans
Cheaper Than Free *
* I like it but I can only handle it in doses.
The rest? I've tried, I really have.

They could have kept the Moonlight tile, but called the album "Lady From The Mountain"....I think that sums up the feel of the album perfectly.
Or... Lady From The Mountain With A Horse Looking For A Room In New Orleans It sort of sounds like a Craig's list ad!

The sentiment is heartfelt and genuine, but I don't think the music is right for the song. Saying something as big as "you saved my life" needs a really special arrangement, with some nice peaks and transitions. Unfortunately, it reminds me too much of "Rose Garden" in its musical complexity. But I can totally understand how you and many others appreciate this very honest song.

I love that line BECAUSE there's no special arrangement. It's simplicity makes it feel more genuine to me... it's almost like I wouldn't believe that she truly felt that it saved her life if the music was more complex and that line was a "peak" of the song. It feels like an intimate confession, whispered to us instead of shouted. She doesn't need to force that line to stand out beyond the rest-- it does it on its own.

I agree with this assessment. It's how the song strikes me as well.
I'm happy that so many Ledgers consider IYD one of Stevie's top 3 albums. It's a little frustrating though that albums with a sentimental attachment automatically outrank everything new. Basically for many of you Stevie will never top BD or WH or RAL because of how those albums remind you about a certain time of your life. This is where music critics can actually be valuable (in a way) because of being able to be outside of that emotional attachment to the music.
Put another way: It's perfectly legit to identify albums as one's favorite (where the emotional attachment comes in) versus which albums are the "best" (where, IMO, emotional attachment can cloud one's judgement).

No doubt, but the song just doesn't vary much. It pretty much sounds the same all the way through. That's what make a simple acoustic song like "Landslide" so brilliant. It sounds so intimate and effortless, yet there's so much depth because there's equal commitment to lyrics and music. On "For What's It's Worth," it leans towards stronger lyrics; the music is just background.

When I first listened to the CD, For What it's Worth was a huge disappointment. Both Dave's said it was their favorite song and I listened to the song and kept waiting for the song to happen. It also seemed misplaced to me. Basically, the album for me, started at track 3. After a bunch of listens I finally got used to the simple arrangement and I do appreciate the heartfealt lyrics, however the song is still an enigma on this album. All the other songs seem so musically deep, with plenty of suprises. This song seems like a lonely, simple, orphan on this album. I like the song. To me it's there is a great truthfullness to this song that reminds me of After the Glitter Fades. She is blatantly honest with her emotions. However, I'm not sure if this is the right album for this particular song. Maybe, it is. This is Stevie's ecletic album. She dips into each genre successfully. Maybe this song just shouldn't be placed up front.

I completely agree...For What Its Worth is the standout song on the album...it should have ended the album...its simplicity breaks my heart..the simple arrangement is very much in the same vein as "Landslide" and "That's Alright" and "Planets of the universe(demo) and "Christian(spinning wheels)" ..I only wish she would approach an entire cd with this simplicity...Unplugged.....!!! I wish she knew how many of us love the sound of her sincere, imperfect voice....she doesnt need any accompaning electronic production....

I think he was trying to say the depth of the lyrics do not match the depth of music of the song. Musically it's too simple. Landslide has change ups. It's simple but musically deep.

OK, IYD is not one of my favs, however, lemme ask you all this. Is there a single song on the IYD CD that you believe or can honestly say that in 5, 10,20,30 years from now will hold up well and will be played on a Top 40 rock or pop station. I am referring to either FM songs or Stevie solo songs such as Dreams, Stand Back, Rhiannon, Landslide, Edge of, all of which are still regularly played on Top 40 radio. I just don't see a single song, other than perhaps Secret Love that will be played. In fact, the ONLY song I have heard being played on XM/Sirius is Secret Love.
Note that I am not saying it has to sell a LOT or be played a LOT on Radio/itunes etc to be a great song. I am just asking if there's any particular song (s) that will be heard in the future from this CD? I can't think of any.

No, but not for the reason that you're probably thinking. Most IYD songs won't be established songs on the radio not due to quality but due to 1. where Nicks is in her career and 2. the state of the music industry now.
Had IYD been released earlier in Nicks' career, a number of songs on it could have become standards: "Secret Love", "For What It's Worth", "New Orleans", "Moonlight", "Annabel Lee" and "Italian Summer" in particular. All of these have been cited by one critic or another as being excellent (and some have said "near Fleetwood Mac") quality.

Yes. Though Stevie has not had a popular Top 40 hit since Rooms On Fire - over 20 yrs ago in 1989 - I think there are songs from the past 20 years that hold up easily to her "classics" that also happened to be radio hits. Moonlight, For What It's Worth, You May Be The One, In Your Dreams & Annabel Lee immediately spring to mind without a doubt as pure Stevie classics on the new album as good as anything in her heyday, just as If You Ever Did Believe, Planets Of The Universe, Trouble In Shangri La, Thrown Down & Destiny Rules are also modern day Stevie classics arguably as good as her older "hits".
For whatever multiple reasons that are completely out of our control, Stevie just has not been as successful on the radio or pop singles charts with new material since the late 80's, but that does make her newer music any less impactful to those that do listen. And yes, absolutely - Stevie has recorded new songs that back in the day would have been bonafide radio hits. I also think New Orleans could be a single. I just don't think Stevie can get radio attention in a big way for new material these days. And actually that goes for all the way back to 1991.

"New Orleans" is a perfect example of a hit from yesteryear. Marc Cohn had a monster hit with "Walking in Memphis," which is not so different from NO, like, 20 years ago. Heck, if she'd released it five years ago (when its subject matter was timely), it would have still been a hit. Today... not so much. I also think "Annabel Lee" would have been a hit 20 years ago; it has a crunchy, postmodern-folky vibe ala the Traveling Wilburys. But as much as I love "Moonlight," I still think there is something a little bit off about it; it still sounds like mashed up song fragments to me. And I think it could have been produced with a harder techno rock edge on the choruses. I dunno... maybe a good descriptor for how I feel about it is "defanged," ironically enough!
The difficult thing about IYD is that, indeed, there is nothing in it on the magnitude of, say, "Edge of Seventeen." But then again, there isn't any filler at all like "Cry Wolf." It's just a consistent, solid piece of work that needs to be appreciated as a whole. Accordingly, there really aren't any clear marquee singles on it. Perhaps this is the kind of album that needs to shed five or six singles in order for people to realize that it is worth checking out. I was listening to Adele's new album and it just got me so depressed (and puzzled) about the state of pop culture today. Adele's album is truly abysmal. "Rolling in the Deep" is a fantastic single, but I don't hear anything else on there except more middling mediocre meditations on being in love, being out of love, yadda yadda yadda. Still, that one single is enough to move a shti-ton of albums. By comparison, Stevie's album is so much richer, varied and deep. Adele is like grape juice to Stevie's cabernet sauvignon.

I will have to respectfully disagree with your thoughts...if the "state of pop music" was more albums like Adele's, then we would be in great shape...she deserves to sell 3 million and more copies...She had a beautiful album "19" and then twenty eight months later put out her most recent stellar cd '21'...Stevie's albums have been 10 years apart and Stevie's various struggles over the last 25 years with drugs, depression, etc., has hurt her fan base. Stevie is lucky that we all were so entranced by her, even during the low perid, that we stuck by her side ....Stevie has been solely responsible for her lost time between releases....I love In Your Dreams and it will be my close second favorite album of the year...second to Adele's "21".

This album doesn't have one dud on it. Aside from Belladonna, song for song, it's her most consistant album. I love TWH, but Gate and Garden and Sable On Blonde always get skipped when I listen to it. I don't skip anything on IYD. Every song on the album has it's merits. So I think I would have to rank this way:
1. Belladonna
2. In Your Dreams
3. The Wild Heart
4. TISL
5. Rock A Little
6. TOSOTM
7. Street Angel

How are the songs playing out.. I figured by "how many times have you played it" on my ipod would be the most telling.. (i didn't count Secret Love since it came to me in January..) so the Stevie / Mac songs on my top 25 playlist are..
1. Moonlight
2. Thrown Down (alt version)
3. For What Its Worth
4. You May Be the One
5. Sara
6. I Know I'm not Wrong
7. In Your Dreams
8. Italian Summer
9. Rhiannon
10. Wild Sargasso Sea
11. Everybody Loves You
12. Ghosts Are Gone
13. New Orleans
14. Honey Hi
15. Save Me a Place..
the others are non-mac songs.. like Norwegian Wood..

I have to say I don't think I'm going to know how I rank it in the grand scheme of things for a few months... I've been listening to it almost non-stop since I got it a month ago and I know that I love it, but I don't ever listen to the songs mixed in with other Stevie songs. I listen to IYD, then move on. I do feel deep down though that it will probably never top the list because of the Dave Stewartness of it. There's something a tiny bit off-putting about how deeply involved he was and how little of the music she did herself, although he obviously deserves credit for getting it to what it is. I'm also different from everyone else as far as I can see because The Other Side Of The Mirror is my favourite album and has been forever! I've put IYD and RAL as a tie because I feel there are similarities between the way they are written and the general feel of the album. Ideally I'd put Enchanted (particularly Disc 3!) as my favourite album because I think it's GREAT!
1. TOSOTM
2. Rock A Little/IYD (I think they are actually quite similar in many ways...)
3. TISL
4. Bella Donna
5. The Wild Heart
6. Street Angel

" Stevie has not had a popular Top 40 hit since Rooms On Fire - over 20 yrs ago in 1989"
I would give her credit for Planets of the Universe being #1 on the dance charts.

Those aren't the same as the Top 40, which is the Hot 100 singles chart. A #1 dance hit is still a heck of an accomplishment, but to be fair, those are different charts so you can't count them the same.
I think Stevie's singles successes in her later years have been quite good. She just isn't going to get another Hot 100 hit now that she's part of an older generation of rock stars. Even Elvis was faded out. Even though she wasn't having Hot 100 hits any more she still is having Adult Contemporary and Dance/Club hits, which are still hits:
"Everyday" #17 AC
"Sorcerer" #21 AC
"Planets of the Universe" #1 Dance
"Stand Back" #2 Dance
"Secret Love" #20 AC

I finally tried listening to IYD per the promo disc tracking order. It's ok..don't think that opening with "Moonlight" makes it any better than opening with "Secret Love".
Still can't just listen to the songs individually...when I listen, I play the whole thing "back to front, front to back".

Yea .The new tunes from today .Plus rap and hiphop..And show are wearing in on me and I starting to like them except for rap..In the other dept they got hard rock which I call noise amd my co-worker calls it mindless.Hey Adele is on alot now.I do like her.Today I have country tunes playing.Hahaha If Stevie comes out with a all rap hiphop tune with a hop rap/hiphop artist.I might enjoy it.and she might enjoy being up on the top of the Billboard mainstream charts for once.

I've tried to do this. But, IMO, there's very few perfect albums, in my book. Most records have at least 1 song I cannot sit through. IYD has 3:laugh: Ah well, different strokes.

I just don't understand when people respond like this. I can understand it with some of her past albums that I thought were god-awful. However, not this album. There isn't a true dud on the record. Every song is produced to its fullest and the lyrics have been worked out. She really did a good job with this and she sounds great.
I just wonder if she were to have come out with crap if people would just ralley behind it because they knew it was crap. TISL isn't even half the album this thing is and people have criticized it less on some boards.

The only song on IYD that I truly, absolutely cannot abide by is My Heart. There's something about it that just sets my teeth on edge. Maybe one day I'll warm to it; I used to loathe The Highwayman, Sable On Blond, WISYA - and now I really adore them.
What I'm really enjoying about IYD is that my favourite song seems to be switching all the time. There's no obvious hit on the album; but I think that's a good thing, on her previous solo albums, I've been drawn to the songs with the biggest hit potential and neglected the deeper album cuts, whilst with IYD, I fully appreciate all of the songs. They flow so well on my iTunes shuffle, as well. It's quite nice to go from, say, Stand Back to New Orleans. Now that I have them and I've gotten accustomed to them, I can't imagine these songs not existing.

Everybody Loves You is my favorite or 2nd favorite track. It's a deep musically, and doesn't depend on a chorus. Has change ups and very nice guitar part. I like atmosphere and that track has it. It's my Nightbird of the album.

That doesn't make them duds, it makes them songs that you don't personally like.
I wish people could differentiate better between something that they just don't care for versus something that actually is lower quality. I can tell you that "Ghosts Are Gone" is my least favorite song on the album, but even though I don't care for it that much, I can recognize that it's still a well-written and well-performed song.

Yeah, I wasn't initially very warm about "Ghosts Are Gone"...but now, sometimes, it feels so good to listen to....that driving guitar. I realized this recently when playing some online iPad game with a friend while it played. I felt I scored better. :D

I never disliked ELY but it has definitely become one of my favorites on the album. There's so just so much going on musically in this song. It could have been a run of the mill snoozer but it's chock full of great stuff, including terrific lyrics and a wonderfully sensual vocal.

I agree. Although I really don't consider "My Heart" when I speak of how great an album IYD is in general, since it's not on the official album track-list, only the fan edition. Something for me is still off about this song. Some parts are improved upon but overall I think I've now decided I prefer the TISL version, which I coincidentally just re-listened to this weekend after many many months. I like the softer string-laden verses and lyric placement on it much better. The change up on the lyrics is what grates me the most on the new version, it feels clunky, awkward & generic. Although ultimately, I must admit I've never loved this song as some do & think it was the correct choice to drop from the official track-list. The TISL version would have fit better on that album, say in place of TMMS, but to me it not an essential song.
And on the latter, I couldn't agree more. I had the hardest time even considering picking a favorite song on IYD the first few weeks I heard the album because I loved all of them almost equally (even CTF:D). I've narrowed it to about 5 or 6 favorites, but the others are still terrific! And, yes all the songs flow beautiful on shuffle - as chiliD says, this album really does deserve to be heard "back to front, front to back". I'd only drop My Heart. I also just bought my 4th copy today - I gave one away as a gift (my niece), one for my partners car, one for my car, & the fan edition still unwrapped in case you were left scratching your head (yup I'm crazy - but Stevie is the only one I do this for & I rarely buy CD's anymore). But this is my 1st IYD 13 track version, just to not have to skip MH in the car ;)

So right. This song is musically deep and atmospheric and goes all the way. The song is as good as it can get. I love the Bird on the Wire part and if I'll were compiling a greatest hits for Stevie, this would be on it. I almost feel the same way about You May Be the One. Both songs come late in the album and they add just sooo much depth.

You know I don't get the outright CTF hate. I understand that some do not have a taste for the steel pedal guitar country-ish arrangement. And yeah, it's not a deep song, however the sentiment is nice & light. But all of the above is what makes it work imo. - the arrangement & the lyrics! It's a simple sweet little song. And also sticks with a 3 chord simple mantra (D -E -A )." Cheaper Than Free" happens to be my brothers favorite songs from IYD, and he's been a fan of Stevie's as long as I have, just not as deep. I also played this song for my partners brother, because he generally loves stuff in this country/blues vein, and he keeps asking me to replay it again & again (every time I see him) to the point I may have sold him on buying the record based on this one song. For me, this song harkens back to Stevie's country roots & her early songwriting (After The Glitter Fades, Rose Garden, That's Alright & I Sing For The Things etc.) and I "Dig it" a lot!

Me either. People were talking about dumb lyrics. Huh? The lyrics are fine. Actually, pretty good. I mean there are tons of Stevie songs you can criticize for cheesy lyrics. This isn't one of them.

I really strongly dislike the lyrics for CTF. I think they're definitely among Stevie's cheesiest, collectively. I can't think of another single song that is so corny as a whole. Yes, it has the country feel of some of her older stuff but I don't think the songwriting is on the same level at ALL.

Dont get me started on You May Be The One. Again, it came late in the set and I didn't pay it much attention at first but it is now def one of my favs. The production is flawless, the girls harmonies are perfect (though they could be a tad bit louder IMO), Stevie's vocal is spot on and just when you think it can't get any better...there's that ending: THE BEST ending of a Stevie song ever.

I've tried to understand why I dislike Everybody Loves You and Cheaper than Free so much.....and besides not liking the lyrics on either song...i've decided that i don't like the flow of the chorus with the pacing of the rest of the song on ELY...it sounds as if they've pieced two songs together...the other obvious reason is, simply, Dave's voice....If Tom Petty was singing with Stevie on Cheaper Than Free instead of Dave Stewart there's a real chance I could love that song....His production on the cd was incredible but his backup vocals should have been Petty or Buckingham or Chris Issak or Dylan or Kieth Urban(then it truly could have been a country single)ANYONE other than Stewarts...

The chorus is honestly what got me hooked. It's seriously one of her best ever. It gives me a warm fuzzy feeling every time I listen. The way she sings those words, aaaah pure bliss! The combination of lyrics and music is insanely good and I can't say that for a lot of her choruses. A lot of them I like the music for but the lyrics are whatever i.e. Rooms on Fire, LWTG, Wild Heart.
Just the whole idea of her translating this poem, "Stevie-fying" it for lack of better term is amazing to me. I mean who does that in song and does it really really well? Exactly.
Another thing that baffles me about my love affair with this track is as most of you know, it means so much to me whether or not Stevie wrote the lyrics to the track or not so for me to say my favorite song of the album is one that she did not pen herself is huge!
And one last reason this is so significant, I hated the demo! To go from hating a demo to being the favorite song on an album is quite a dramatic turn if I do say so myself!
