Well, it is Memorial Day... not likely the second single.

The NicksLive Blog reported 2 days ago that it was the new single, "just in time for Memorial Day". But is that correct?

Wow that would shock me. Unless she did it for LB in some way...I love the song but it isn't a single for radio...

Yea, there was an article on the site that was reviewing the song, but I thought the writer was just messing up their facts and referred to it as a "single".

I thought so, too. Just was confusing with that "New single, just in time for Memorial Day" part on there.

But, yeah, I thought maybe someone got it wrong.

Yeah, but that's the same article that is posted on the Nickslive blog. I really, really doubt this is the new single. This would be like FM releasing "World Turning" as a second single off the FM FM album or releasing "Alice" as the second single off of OSOTM, etc.

Oh, ok. Thanks for the info. I don't think it's the radio single, but I do think they're using it as Mike said for cross-promotion. Great timing with Memorial Day.

Is this the best video of Stevie & Lindsey performing "Soldier's Angel"? Angle, sound?

I posted it on my Facebook page for Memorial Day, but also to promote the song. Maybe it will do big things/get recognition for Stevie & Lindsey!

I'm not sure about it being a single but it seems to be being used as some sort of promotion with the whole donate & get a free download and stuff and then Memorial Day.

I love the song but I'm not sure about how broad of an audience it would appeal to.

Agreed. That's the best one I've seen so far.Excellent quality video & audio!

I haven't grown fond of the song itself, but what Lindsey is doing instrumentally is what I'd call an octave ostinato. That's probably why it reminds people of live performances of "The Chain."

These "Soldier's Angel" threads aren't merged yet???

I was just watching The Perfect Neighbor on my DVR, recorded from Lifetime this morning, and the Coming Home commercial came on, and Stevie's voice is the very first thing you hear in the ad!

The song goes great with the commercial for the season finale of that show. Immediately, I set my DVR to record it Sunday night!

Hopefully, there will be a notation somewhere that the song playing is Stevie's from her new album, In Your Dreams, in case some people hear it and want to get it. I've certainly bought several songs from iTunes that were in commercials or TV shows that I really liked. One example is "Remind Me" by Royksopp from the Geiko commercial in 2006. Oh, and Dinah Washington's "Relax Max" from the Double Tree ads from 2007. There's money they got from me that way. I read that Royksopp made more money off downloads based on that Geiko commercial than they did on the licensing fee and from when they originally released it in 2004.

This could at least get Stevie some recognition.

Definetly the live version is better than the recording on In Your Dreams they should have recorded it live like in an empty thearte just like that it would have been awesome on the album for some reason the album versions sounds like something is missing in the song but love the song still, I see and hear it live like that on her birthday love the song even more.

Yes, there's something about the way Lindsey's voice is mixed on the album version that doesn't sound quite right to my ears. I know they recorded it live but something still sounds a bit off - it's like his voice is coming from two different places, if that makes sense.

I actually think it's supposed to be all discordant (if that's the word)...and, somewhat harsh-sounding. Goes with the message, really.
I was probably most disappointed with this song, because I had been looking forward to this BuckinghamNicks thing but...it's grown on me. I don't fast forward it but I do think it almost takes you out of IYD and the world it creates. But, I guess that was sort of intentional, too.
It's interesting. And it might (might being the very operative word here) be a good move because it's unique and has a strong, important message.

I think you are hearing him singing harmony with himself. So, technically his vocals are coming from two different places.

But there's only ever two-part harmony on the song (Stevie's melody line, and then his harmony). The multiple Lindsey's coming from different directions are singing the same exact notes, so essentially he's just doubling the one part...

I feel the need to reiterate that this is one of my favorite songs on the album. I do much prefer the live version though because, oddly enough, it sounds more polished than the recorded one.

That description reminds me of the part of "My Heart" when Stevie's voice is coming from one speaker and then the other. It's almost like she's taking turns whispering into one of my ears and then the next. It's a very nice effect.

Yes, I was laughing at Stevie when she discussed the BN ominousity before I heard Soldier's Angel, but they did go for an ominous, troubling sound with the musical arrangement. Surprising and impressive choice. Michele

I just finished watching The Perfect Wife (2000, starring still yummy Perry King!) and the commercial with "Soldier's Angel" was on six times during that 2-hour movie.

Now, I'm an hour into The Perfect Teacher (2010) starring the even-more-PERFECT-than-when-he-was-on-Baywatch David Charvet, and "Soldier's Angel" has been on twice (this is Lifetime's The Perfect Monday event!).

I think that's pretty good publicity for Stevie and "Soldier's Angel" (and In Your Dreams!).

The traditional concept of a single was pretty much killed off when iTunes emerged.

It's not as important anymore to designate certain songs as singles, because social media does that, as some album tracks become more popular, and songs can go viral without any influence from the artist or record company.

The more I hear Soldier's Angel, the more I like it. It's not radio-friendly, and it's not supposed to be.
Like it or not, the song has impact: no one is no ambivalent about. And that's why it's getting media traction. Stevie's album, as a whole, will benefit from it.

Really? I hear him singing a lower part in the chorus after "they are the soldier's of my heart"...

Cool! I had to look it up, but I can hear that. Although, I never thought SA sounded like The Chain... Doesn't he start SA by striking two notes, but in The Chain he is fingerpicking a complete chord on a dobro?

I actually didn't hear that until now - my ears weren't picking it up - yes he is. But the 'effect' I'm hearing runs throughout the entire song in all of the portions that Lindsey sings on, even in the earlier choruses and the outro when there is clearly just two parts being sung.

I'm not an expert, but I think it might be an effect produced by splitting the left and right channels of his vocal track and slightly offsetting them from each other (your left ear his hearing the vocal slightly before the right ear... or vice versa as I can't remember since I'm not listening to it right now). I think of it like a faux-stereo-effect... in experiments in audio editing, I have done this. The interesting thing is the stereo image changes depending on how far apart (in time displacement) the left and right channels are from each.

Another curious part of this is when the exact same sample is being used in both channels (at least from what I've experienced), whichever channel comes first, you have to decrease the loudness of it in order for them to sound evenly balanced... your ear perceives the second signal (the delayed channel) almost like an echo, and so the first signal seems to be perceived as louder.

Her record label did release it to radio stations as a "single". It's available for them to download and add to their playlists. They could have done it just for the memorial day publicity, but they sure waited til the last minute to do it.

I really truly hope it's just that.

As I've said before, I think Nicks intends to do an extended "slow burn" with this album and she totally could do it. I never would have pegged "Soldier's Angel" as a single, but the appropriateness of it for Memorial Day makes sense. My guess is that we'll eventually see a push for "Moonlight" as Breaking Dawn looms on the horizon, and that we'll see a push for "Italian Summer" too simply because Nicks has said she has "big plans" for the song. I could see promoting "New Orleans" somehow as well.

It's got to be some type of slowburn. I mean she still has Italian Summer, Moonlight, In Your Dreams, Ghosts are Gone, Everybody Loves you, You May Be the One, Wide Sargasso Sea, Cheaper than Free... all potential singles. This album almost sounds like a greatest hits. They just can't leave it at Secret Love. That would be a travesty.

I haven't noticed the F's. She has always had a distinct "h" sound; it's especially evident on "I float through the hall of the hospitals..."

I do love the vocal/song, though. I was even more impressed with the live performance.

a remix of soldier's angel and new orleans with profits going to each cause would be great!

i liked sa better live. i have come to like it a lot, but not so much within the mix of listening to it within the whole cd. I love new orleans, then, moonlight, then annabel lee, then my heart. it's a very fun, good feeling, good sound of them in sequence. then being hit with soldier's angel takes me out of my little dream. i am in need of some fluffy dreams right now.so it;s just me. but when i listen to soldier's angel by itself a few times in a row it's very touching and brings me back to heartache and upset stomach, knowing we still have our military out there. the beginning guitar, it strikes me as an uncomfortable sound. not just sad - i love somber songs like forest of the black roses, etc. - but the start of soldier's angel is downright uncomfortable. like the way sounds of the alarms from the weather channel make you feel - forboding, unpleasant, and you want it to stop. very much like war itself.

after listening to the album for over a month now and falling in love with it even more....I am more in love with the part of it that rocks out although I like most songs...I know it's a very different music market these days but I feel the obvious path of singles released on this album should have been:

1. In Your Dreams (with video)
2. Ghosts Are Gone (with video)
3. Annabel Lee (with video)
4. You May Be The One (live performance video)
5. Everybody Loves You

"Ghosts Are Gone" may not be "single" material, but it sure screams for airplay on Classic Rock stations...it fits right there between a Stones song & a Tom Petty/Heartbreakers tune. (or Lynyrd Skynyrd)
