I apologise if this has been discussed before - but it's pretty interesting to know what you all think.

I love all of her albums but still chose Rock A Little as my favorite.

Rock A Little is definitely in my top 3 - but I have to go for The Wild Heart.
I feel the vocals on this album are more raw and organic than on any of her other albums. The emotions come out so wonderfully on all of the songs on this album :)

The Wild Heart just edges out Bella Donna which itself just edges out TISL + IYD.
Bella Donna + The Wild Heart are Stevie at her absolute best, solo, for her vocals alone. However, I think with Bella Donna she had to play it a little safe, so it's alittle more restrained, whilst with TWH, she could be unrestrained and still keep those amazing vocals - whilst with RAL she went too wild and her vocals suffered as a result.

Another thread like this huh. That's ok. I love these.
My rankings.
1. Bella Donna
2. In Your Dreams
3. Wild Heart
4. TISL
5. Street Angel
As good as IYD is.....IMO it will never match BD. BD just has a magical quality she's never recaptured. WH is half good. with the back half being pretty bad. RAL and OSOTM started my disappointment with Stevie so they don't rank......awful records. SA would have mad a good EP cause I only like 5 songs. TISL is OK......Could have used a trimming. Big Time.
And IYD. Easily her best. And the one which came closest to recapturing that BD magic. A bit bloated. Stevie needs someone to pull her in sometimes.....And tell her.......NO:lol: Still a wonderful album. Which woke me up to her again:nod:

I chose In Your Dreams because it is the album I feel that Stevie has always wanted to record and free of all the clutter in her life, was finally able to do so. Even with Jimmy Iovine, personal crap got in the way and eventually resulted in lower standards in her music, namely lyrical issues on Wild Heart (vocals however were among her best) and then the sloppy Rock a Little. Everything about this album is great: her best writing since her early career, the production, musicianship and of course the voice. A few adventures into her best tones, the falsetto highs. That passion has not been heard of since the Wild Heart. That being said, Bella Donna and The Wild Heart will always have its place in classic rock history and for me personally defined my adolescence. Although I liked Rock a Little and The Other Side of the Mirror when they came out, neither have the lasting or redeeming quality of the earlier work and this new album and I now pan both of those dreadful albums. Street Angel and Trouble in Shangri La had moments but were clearly in a new era and if the passion had been present in her voice, may have ranked higher with me. I'm a 36 year fan of Stevie's and seen a few incredible highs and too many lows to remember, but I can say I haven't been this proud to be a fan in a very long time. This work is stellar and clearly, the best of her career.

Can't pick just one, but Bella Donna, Rock a Little, Other Side of the Mirror, and In Your Dreams are in the top tier.

TWH was my favorite for many years, but now I'd rank it third after BD (a masterpiece) & RAL (fun & even more lyrically untamed than TWH).
BD has excellent production & finds Stevie''s voice in great shape. All of the choices she & Jimmy made are spot-on. And, considering that she had been working on many of the songs for years, I'm not surprised that lyrically it's her most brilliant work.
So BD is my favorite. If I'm driving in my car, though, RAL is the one I reach for the most often.

Her first three albums are all favourites of mine for different reasons. I would probably pick 'Rock A Little' for the sheer fury of Stevie's vocals, but I agree that 'The Wild Heart' has an emotional thread running through it that she has rarely achieved on any other album.

It's hard to choose - I love them all, some more than others, but it's like picking a favorite pet or child. I've bonded with all of these songs at some point or another.
I had to pull the "stranded on a deserted isle" game with the assumption that I can only have one album to listen to for the rest of my life - and I picked Rock a Little. It was my first Stevie album, the one that made me love her music and started a lifetime hobby/collection. It has the most sentimental value - it's truly THE ONE Stevie Nicks album I never want to be without.

Yep...same here. Even my former favorites always had one (or two) "turkeys" that I would ALWAYS skip, or when making a CD-R, swap out with a superior single b-side or something. In Your Dreams is the first Stevie Nicks album that I've considered as one complete musical statement...unless a gun is at my head (figuratively, not literally), I really don't consider the songs on an individual basis.
1) In Your Dreams
2) Trouble In Shangri-La (even still at #2 after swapping out the "wall of sound" "Thrown Down" & "Touched By An Angel" in place of "Too Far From Texas")
3) Bella Donna (a few tunes that at one time I really liked haven't fared so well over the 30 years)
4) Rock A Little (had she ONLY released "I Can't Wait" and all of Side 2 as an EP, it would be battling for the #1 slot, but too bad there are two sides to an LP)
5) Wild Heart (the more I listen to this one, the fewer songs I enjoy...LOVED it in '83, not so much in '11)

I agree with you Louie 100% on I got into Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks since I was 9yrs old back in 1979 my first album to get was Tusk my parents belonged to the Columbia House Record club and I told them I wanted the Tusk Album By FM and they got it for me been hooked since and Rock A Little Tour is the first tour seeing Stevie Live and I though she was awesome to see live been still seeing her live since. 1986 solo and with the Mac. Rock A Little is still my favorite that is a must have in my collection probably will be buried with my rock a little album if I had to be buried with one I would pick rock a little hands down. If I were to recommend an album of Stevie's to friends who are not aware of her music I would give them rock a little.:wavey::blob1::)

If you're talking critical acclaim "In Your Dreams" and "Trouble In Shangri-La" probably tie for best Nicks album. "In Your Dreams" has gotten the bigger raves but also a few pans while "Trouble In Shangri-La" didn't really get panned at all.
For me personally "In Your Dreams" is both my favorite and also IMO Stevie's best album:
1. In Your Dreams---5 stars
2. Trouble In Shangri-La---5 stars
3. Bella Donna---5 stars
4. The Other Side of the Mirror---4 1/2 stars
5. Rock A Little---3 1/2 stars
6. The Wild Heart---3 stars
7. Street Angel---2 1/2 stars

TISL, baby, TISL. That's probably the one I reach for most because I have really good memories attached to that album.
Wild Heart is basically tied for 1st and Bella Donna just behind.
I love IYD, but it's a little new for me to love it so much.
