Torrey Devitto, the daughter of Stevie's friend Mary Torrey. She's a recurring star on Pretty Little Liars and had her own show a few years ago (Beautiful girls? The Beautiful Life? Something like that).

I knew that she and Russ Kunkel were together... but I thought that was way back in the early 80s, somewhere in between Jimmy Iovine and Joe Walsh. I had no idea that they started up again after SA. That man has had the most unbelievable career; he's played with Joni, Carly, Stevie, Linda Ronstadt... just incredibly lucky (and talented too).

Okay, what snippet of a song is playing in part one at 4:43? It may be because it's midnight and I only had 4 hours of sleep today, but the only thing I'm coming up with is maybe Ghosts Are Gone. But she's talking about Cheaper Than Free at that point in the video, so I'm confused.

Stevie just mentions that the drummer from her Street Angel tour is the person "For What It's Worth" is about. She says she was freaked out about going onstage sober for the first time ever, didn't think she was good enough to do it without drugs, and that he encouraged & breathed life back into her.
Anybody else think it's interesting how For What It's Worth is about a love affair with a married man; yet in Everybody Loves You when she is propositioned for an affair with a married man, she claims "she was so not that girl." :p

So I mentioned in another post a few weeks ago that Stevie should do a video album like Beyoncé did with her "B'Day" album, Blondie did to their "Eat to The Beat" album and Annie Lennox did with one of her albums.
It looks as though Stevie made like 6 videos (So far I counted Moonlight (A Vampire’s Dream). Everybody Loves You, Wide Sargasso Sea, Cheaper Than Free, Secret Love, and Italian Summer - I'm hoping she made complete videos for the other 4 songs (we already know there is Secret Love & Cheaper). Have the documentary as a bonus feature for the video album. Would be soooo awesome.
I love this album so far. I never got into Trouble in Shangri La when I came out as much as I got into this one (and I got the last copy at Barnes & Noble the other day)... Anyways that's my thought!

I think Stevie looks so cute when Dave is describing what he would like to do for the Secret Love intro, and Stevie is looking at the paper, going " OK". Ha Ha. Like Dave I have no idea what your talking about, but I trust you. Ha Ha
Also when Mick asks Stevie if the Secret Love demo was on one of his tapes, do you think he meant that such a gem might have been overlooked as a FM piece, or that perhaps she made him a tape of songs she would like him to play on?

This whole thing just gives me the warm fuzzies. I absolutely love it when we get to hear sing near acapella like she did in the little Secret Love and FWIW snippet. My favorite part of the Destiny Rules doc. was when she sings Goodbye Baby...so beautiful. I did have to chuckle a little when she talks about Italian Summer...she has high hopes for that song. But, I guess you can't hate a girl for dreaming;)

After the first few listenings of 'For What it's Worth' I got sort of a little mental movie as it played. In my mind I pictured traveling across Texas for some reason. Except on a connecting flight or two I have never been to Texas. As I watched the video clip for 'For What it's Worth' I saw two flags on part of the clip. The US flag was easy to distinguish. The other flag I had to rewind several times to identify it. I saw the big star, it's the Texas state flag. How surreal!!

I really can't wait to see the complete doc.. and, as I smile really big time.. "You May Be the One" is one of the songs... like Stevie said in that last interview.. "dance around the room" listening to in your dreams..

I like the original lyrics to Italian Summer a lot better than what ended up in the song :/
"At the end of the
Italian Summer
It rains fast
And it rains hard
The wind blows right through you
And it reaches out
And takes your heart
It's so romantic
And it's so soulful
That it can ~ tear you apart
The rain beats down
And the thunder rolls
It makes you feel that here
You belong"

OK, I just saw it. I don't see where she says she was involved with this drummer but IDK. It would be pretty sad if she did since he was married and had a 4 year old at home. Personally, I think the story is BS for the most part. I'm not saying I don't think she wouldn't get involved with a married man but maybe not this one.
Maybe they were just emotionally intimate, or they wanted to and resisted. She says it was "forbidden" and "we knew it couldn't last." One interpretation is that they felt connected but since they knew it wouldn't last and he was married with a child, they resisted and instead just left it as a strong emotional connection, the strength of which allowed her to go on with the tour and "saved her life." He has "good intentions" to help her out, and the "even if" part of the chorus implies that he did NOT leave his girlfriend. Yes, a wife is more than a girlfriend, but Stevie is not legally obligated to be absolutely literal... especially when it might take the sheen off the song for married listeners. :) Stevie loves the idea of the "tragic romance" and all the "great romances" that are tragic wind up with the hero and heroine unable to be together, sometimes unable to act upon their love in any way other than pining for each other. If that's the case here, Kunkel might never have touched Stevie physically and she could still characterize it as a "great romance."
Of course, let's face it, it's a documented fact that Stevie has had affairs with married men in the past.

EXCELLENT!
And now we know who FWIW is about... the drummer for the Street Angel tour.
According to The Legacy (http://www.fmlegacy.com/concertssnstreetangel.html), the man in question is Russ Kunkel.
The drummer in question is Dallas Taylor, former drummer for CSN. Hence, the title.
Nicks admitted herself to the Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital in Venice Beach. It took her 47 days to detox. 'Dallas Taylor, the drummer for Crosby, Stills and Nash, was there the whole time. I nearly died.
Dallas Taylor does drug interventions and counseling in Beverly Hills now. He's had a liver transplant and has been drug free for 25 years. He says on is site: "Then, I was the original drummer for Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (America’s Beatles). Now, I am an interventionist in LA California; For the past 24 years I have worked in the field of Addiction and I help people with alcohol and chemical dependency."
So, mystery solved - about the "drummer" anyway...

For What It's Worth is a "thank you" to the former drummer for Crosby, Stills and Nash (hence the title), Dallas Taylor.
Nicks admitted herself to the Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital in Venice Beach. It took her 47 days to detox. ‘Dallas Taylor, the drummer for Crosby, Stills and Nash, was there the whole time. I nearly died. I moulted. My hair turned grey. My skin started to completely peel off. I was in terrible pain.’ She shivers at the memory.
Dallas says on his website: "Then, I was the original drummer for Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (America’s Beatles). Now, I am an interventionist in LA California; For the past 24 years I have worked in the field of Addiction and I help people with alcohol and chemical dependency."
Personally, I don't think the entire song is "about" him, but rather a heartfelt nod to him for the work he did with her at the Daniel Freeman Hospital where he worked for 10 years from 1990-2000 and where she went through detox.

Personally, I think it is. She's been really clear that the song was about someone who helped her at a particularly difficult time, and it's since come out that this person was Dallas. I'm not understanding how you're differentiating between a song being "about" him versus a "heartfelt nod to him". To me those are the same things.

It's true that Nicks can be referring to several people in one song, but I think she's been really clear that this one song is about one particular person. Granted she might have just thought this was a great chorus and it doesn't really reflect anything about Dallas, but there's no real basis for believing that. Going by just what she has said - unless I missed a comment of hers somewhere - this song IS about Dallas.

Having the capability to make music by yourself is great, but it does not mean you should. There is something to be said for what a producer and other musicians can bring to a project.

I don't know what his relationship status was during that time. I would bet $100 bucks she wasn't involved with him romantically. It's an absurd thought to me. He was just the interventionist/counselor.
As she said, "In rehab, when you're leaving, the last thing they say to you is, 'Don't get married, don't sign contracts, don't buy a house, don't sell a house. Nothing heavy.' Because your judgment is impaired."
I believe Mr. Taylor takes what he does seriously and would not jeopardize Stevie's sobriety or his professional credentials by engaging in an affair with her during one of the most vulnerable times of her life. Sadly, let's not forget she was a very sick woman.
And, this may be a shocker but Stevie may not have slept with every guy she's ever met or included in one of her songs. ;)

Even if Christine was guilty of lies, sweet little lies, musically I don't think she was ever that uninspired. She would have put a nice little hooky keyboard riff into CTF, if nothing else. Secondly, not even that dame would sink to discussing the love into which she fell in question and answer couplets I haven't heard since I packed my Mother Goose's nursery rhymes into storage.

When Mick said that, I don't think he meant, "Was this on the tape you gave me, in 1975?" She told him that she wrote it back then, but I don't think his mind was going that far back. I know we only heard a little snippet of that conversation, but I don't think he meant a tape she gave him for FM. HH is one of my absolute favorite Christine songs--I just grin every single time I hear that opening. The harmonies are sublime. And though the lyrics might seem simple, they're far from trite: "sweeter than wine" is probably Christine's purest expression of love;).
How can you compare that to CTF, the thought process behind which was basically, "What a cute expression!" "It sure is! Now let's list some phrases that rhyme with it!"?
And I actually like CTF! (Mostly. Kind of.) But it's no Honey Hi.

It's funny because I wrote a post about Show You How and I wanted to mention Honey Hi in it, because the HH beat has a tropical sound to it that just mesmerizes and I felt the live version of Show You How had the same way of taking you back to the elements. There are no pitch forks, but Stevie builds it up like it's something momentous. The title is not that great. There was no reason for Dave and Stevie to look at each other and have something "click" in their heads just because Reese said you can stay at my place. That's cheap. What's cheaper than free? Um, in the history of great song titles, that's not one that sends alarms off in my head. I think Thrown Down is a lot more inventive. What's wetter than water? Witherspoon, go home.
Just the fact that they thought it important to showcase that moment made me want to reflexively respond that it's not like the song she wrote on Sly Stone's bed where everyone appreciates your being able to mark that second in time.

They probably just wanted to showcase the fact that they had another celebrity in the studio. I bet if the idea had come from some nameless session player it wouldn't have gotten any ink or airtime at all.
CTF is so beneath Stevie lyrically. "What's faster than a fast car?" "What's deeper than a deep well?" Oh my gosh, so awful. The song literally makes me cringe. The repetitive/monotonous-to-the-point-of-grating melody certainly doesn't help.

Stevie does tend to blow things out of proportion. Like hasn't every album been her biggest and best yet.. from her own mouth. Then years later she says how it wasn't, or she didn't enjoy it (like baggin our Linsday every album). And we see from this very example of the reese witherspoon thing, that it was more of Reese making the connection of cheaper than free than anything between Stevie and Dave. ... Dave wasn't even looking at Stevie. Stevie can be in her own place sometimes.

Gasp. You've just slapped Christine across the face with your glove. Name your second and your weapon!

I have to say that I think Cheaper Than Free is a very sweet song. Yes, it's nice to have lavish meals with expensive wines and decadent desserts, but ya know, sometimes a good sandwich can make your whole day. And I think the sentiment within the song speaks volumes about the friendship Stevie and Dave had formed even with simple lyrics and a simple melody.

Agreed. I really like this song and if you have ever been in love and you look at that person and you just smile because you are so darn happy...that is what this song does for me. Love can be deep but it can also be a sweet, light feeling. And that is what this song does for me. Simple and sweet.

Like me....Stevie is a Gemini......and Geminis like to switch things up a bit and can't make up their minds. But...oh....we work like hell at our passions! Or whatever passion it tis at the time.

And, this may be a shocker but Stevie may not have slept with every guy she's ever met or included in one of her songs. ;)
I thought so too, CADreaming, Stevie often takes a snippet of reality and spins a romantic song about it. Of course she does say the relationship was "forbidden" and "only a few around us knew, but no one said a word". And our girl tends to like the drama of secret, forbidden relationships, so as always, one never really knows what the truth is...
