Taylor Swift Goes Stevie Nicks for Vogue Cover Shoot
Anne Erickson|01.19.2012
Country-pop star Taylor Swift appears on the February cover of Vogue magazine, and for the shoot, Swift goes for a young Stevie Nicks vibe. In the high-profile spread, Swift wears a ’70s-style sunflower-speckled dress over a pair of jeans, a floppy beige hat and flowing accessories, with a style awfully similar to Nicks’s chic.
Nicks and Swift, of course, performed together at the Grammy Awards in 2010. Speaking with Time magazine, Nicks admitted she had a few hesitations about performing with the young starlet.
“When I first got the call from Taylor Swift about performing with her at this year's Grammy Awards, I really didn’t want to do it,” she told the magazine in 2010. “She's 20 years old, 5 ft. 11 in. and slender; I’m 40 years older and, to be frank, neither of the other two things! I was not about to stand next to this girl on national television. But her little face just lights up like a star, and I couldn’t say no.”
Nicks went on to say that she sees some of herself in Swift. “Taylor reminds me of myself in her determination and her childlike nature,” she said. “It’s an innocence that's so special and so rare.
“This girl writes the songs that make the whole world sing, like Neil Diamond or Elton John. She sings, she writes, she performs, she plays great guitar. Taylor can do ballads that could be considered pop or rock and then switch back into country. When I turned 20 years old, I had just made the serious decision to never be a dental assistant. Taylor just turned 20, and she’s won four Grammys.”

How she's won 4 Grammys I'll never know.

What comes to mind is the hat Stevie was wearing in the footage of the Tusk video.
And...this is the first time I've heard Stevie saying she had intentions to be a dental assistant! Her usual on-going script is that she was going to be a teacher.

She said that she was a dental assistant for 3 days, and then she quit.

#3 Taylor Swift and Stevie Nicks duet, 2010
Taylor Swift is usually pitch-perfect live, but for some ridiculous reason, she was hitting bum notes from the get-go at the 2010 Grammys. The true horror commenced, though, when Stevie "forced smile" Nicks was brought out. Taylor hung onto her hand like a little girl terrified of losing her mom at the supermarket, before wailing over the top of an increasingly embarrassed-looking Nicks during "Rhiannon." The final indignity came when (then-61-year-old) Nicks sang back-up to Swift's "You Belong With Me" -- including the line "She wears short skirts, I wear sneakers, she's cheer captain and I'm on the bleachers," weakly pointing at the air for that last part, clearly trying to take the edge off a humiliating situation. Nicks looked like she wanted the ground to swallow her whole by the end the song. We kind of wanted it to, too. Whoever thought this one up should've been fired.

Dental Assistant?? Never heard that.
I have to have some major dental work next week I'm SO not looking forward to. If the sedation pills they give me don't work than maybe I'll close my eyes and pretend it's only Stevie holding the suction tube. But that might not even help. :(

I blame the Grammy producers for not giving them enought time to rehearse the tunes.

Taylor was off all night. I don't think more rehearsal time would have made much of a difference.

This isn't the worst grammy moments, its the 5 most awkward, uncomfortable moments, which to me, makes a big difference.
I was so bummed that this performance did not go over that well. I was so happy for Stevie to be playing such a major event with millions watching. I just wanted her to show people she still had it in her.

^Well, aside from looking awkward, I didn't hear anyone say anything bad about Stevie after it. Taylor got all of the harsh words. If anything, mostly they said they felt sorry for Stevie for having to stand up there and do it.

That cover reminds me of the foreign single picture sleeve of Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind. Stevie is wearing a similar styled hat.

I have to say that I admire Taylor Swift's gumption in confronting her critics and pausing on the line about someone grumbling "that I can't sing" during her Grammy performance tonight. It turned Mean into a statement and I kind of applaud it, whether she can sing or not.

When she wears her hair straight with bangs like this, I think it's really a wig. Taylor has very fine hair just a lot of curls, if you look at it.
