the old fashion way TOUR!

...and play several songs from the album on the tour! I'm guessing Stevie would be on the road promoting the album if it were up to her. I'm thinking there's some wrangling going on right now between her managers, promotors, booking agents, record label, etc. I really wish she'd just start doing smaller theaters with a capacity of 2,000-5,000 and hit cities she hasn't been to in decades. She'd have a much more personal atmosphere during her shows, really connect with her audiences, and possibly expose herself to new people by hitting smaller cities and venues. She really might be able to start a grass roots appreciation of the album that way.

Yes. It is time for Stevie to go back to basics. Play smaller venues. Do some radio meet and greets. Do some ascoutic songs for independent radio stations in bigger cities.

And why is she never on a cover of a magazine?!?!?!?!?! That's huge promo!

I agree with you Louie last when Stevie came to Connecticut it was her first time performing at Foxwoods MGM Grand Thearte in Ledyard,CT on Aug.28th 2010 it was the last show of her 6 dates she did in about 3 weeks and MGM Grand Thearte holds about 3,500 and she sold out quickly there she usually sells out at the bigger venues I loved that thearte too nice and intimate she loved it too so if she does tour i can see her playing smaller more intimate venues and she put an amazing show last Aug. here at Foxwoods MGM Grand. I think tickets were $85,$110 and $135 around ball park prices I know mine was the $135 if you included taxes and fees it came to $150.I am sure some places she might play more than one night there. She has an audience we know that I do think her publists, mangers and label don't support her enough or give her confidence on her new music. To me I think she should have said no to Rod Stewart and prepared more with the band with new material and get tour dates out there she will sell. Now cause she toured with rod she feels she can't cause she hit all the markets with Rod. I say tour and tour smaller more intimate venues. I would love to have been her promoter or publists she needs to fire them all and get Lady Gaga's publists and managers.

The reason she is not touring small theatres is a) in some markets she can still fill sheds and arenas and b) the money isn't there. And she is not going to go begging to sell copies of her new album (from which she is probably not making any money after expenses). Yes, she wants people to hear it, but she's not going to run herself ragged AND make no money trying to promote it. The reason she has been playing casinos exclusively is because of the money, period- not because she particularly likes them or thinks they are a good outlet for promoting her music. And she has surrounded herself with a band/crew that will play anywhere at anytime, whether or not it's a one-off date or a series of dates. As such, she's now in a position to be picky about the live dates she wants to do. She does not have a record label, manager or accountant staring down her neck to fill up her calendar. All I can say is good on her. She's too old and iconic to be trudging through the lower rungs of stardom.

The artist doesn't make much on the cd's today like they used too cause no one is really selling a huge amount of cd's anymore unless you are like Lady Gaga at this time or taylor swift majority of artists today do not make that much on cd's so in order to make money they have too tour or just deal with what they make. Stevie has an audience already out here and she said she did this album for herself and the diehard fans and didn't care if it sold or not she felt like doing a new album and did it. The money is still there and what is wrong with playing smaller venues and casinos i enjoy the shows here in CT I love it cause you can doing things before the show and after the show and not sit in traffic trying to get out of the venue and the casinos never close so you can stay there all night I have a blast at the casino shows.

I don't know that concerts really help to sell albums.

Never once have I seen Stevie CDs for sale at her shows...although it makes so much sense to sell albums that way.

Sure, she can play Stand Back and tell the audience about her new CD, and then the next day after the marijuana and beer haze wears off, those same casual fans aren't likely to recall Stevie talking about ner new album. I'm making generalizations, of course, but it gets the point across. Isn't the consensus here that Stevie doesn't play anything that casual fans don't know or expect to hear? Casual fans typically buy greatest hits compilations and share little to no interest in hearing new songs from new albums.

Right?

The best way to promote this album is to be seen on TV and be heard on the radio. Some people might not want to see Stevie Nicks on American Idol, and I agree that it's a stage that is far beneath her, but one cannot discount the millions and millions of people who watch and hang on every word uttered by Ryan Seacrest.

People keep talking about the record industry and how no one is selling albums, but that's just not true. Gaga has sold over 13 million albums in the last 5 years, and has individual song sales of over 51 million - Adele's latest album is selling very, very well. What these two ladies have in common is radio airplay, and lots of it. If you heard Secret Love on the radio 4-6 times per day, getting the same airtime as Born This Way, or Rolling In The Deep, Stevie's In Your Dreams could be nearing sales of a million within the next couple weeks, if not next week.

Anyway, I'd love Stevie to tour as much as the rest of us, but TV exposure is good for her, even when the vocals aren't stellar. I for one am dismayed at the fact that her American Idol appearance is a no-go - and yet still hoping to see her on the Red Rocks stage very, very soon.

she hates photo shoots. she still dislikes the way she looks.

i think her best option - and it's still not too late - and i've told her management this - is for her to play festivals and concerts. the big ones - Montreal Jazz Festival, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, and Summer Festival.

and most importantly ** forget the United States - go to Europe first **

head overseas for two months, play 45 -hour long sets at the festivals, meet the magazines, radio stations, and writers after the show - their mediums have a lot more impact than they do over here -- the exposure is great - and the set up would be fantastic for her to launch a two month fall solo tour of Europe. European trends usually follow back over to the states ... its worked for Lady GaGa, among many, many others. Europe is generally why a lot of artists start over there first with their tours - the current Sade, Katy Perry tours are recent example - and Pink's latest tour spent a great deal of time and energy overseas, as compared to the states. it's done wonders for their exposures here in the states.

I think its great if Stevie was to perform on American Idol I agree TV performances and interviews and if she can get played on the radio is awesome too, I have to say the first time I saw new cd's being sold at a conert was Stevie's Street Angel was actually being sold at ther merchandise booth with the tour shirts and they also were selling FM cd's too. The Die hard fans buy the cd when its released and you have the casual fan that my go to the concert and see her perform and if they like the new stuff might buy the cd but today is hard because other people burn cds or just load up a cd to an ipod with other music. I prefer to buy the cd I am old school I use a cd walkman and cd player at home I don't have an ipod.I do think maybe Stevie will tour late summer/fall or winter someone said she is touring Australia in November.

Do something controversial like adopt a kid from Africa or marry a woman and the press will be all over it. After all, any publicity is good publicity right?

I think all of those are great ideas but I believe it's quite simple...she has to put out more music than once every ten years...she has to commit to another fleetwood mac album or another solo project again quickly...if not then put out a duets album or a put out a Buckingham?Nicks album...or put out a song or two on a movie soundtrack, put out a demo/rarities collection...she has toured extensively for decades now but she waits soooo bloody long in between projects/albums..it's like moving a mountain....elton john, rod stewart, heart, tina turner, cher, have recreated their music and careers for years now...Stevie is too safe, too scared, too strategic...during her appearances with Rod, it was obvious that she was stuck in a rut from years of being too safe compared to his improvised foolishness/craziness. And the truth is WE may want more for her than she wants for herself now...and we have to respect that too.

Perhaps she's tapped the touring market out. I don't think she can really pull off the "sheds" anymore either (corporate amphitheaters which seat between 15,000-20,000). I'm guessing there is some bickering going on between parties (managers, promotors, booking agents, etc) as to what type of venues Stevie can realistically play these days, especially considering she just hit most major markets a month ago with Rod Stewart.

There's also a huge bias with singers and songwriters against the sheds. Some really really really hate lining up their touring schedule that looks something like this ... after spending most of their careers playing places with names that 'meant' something - and were memorable.

Verizon Wireless Amphitheater
Verizon Wireless Music Center
Verizon Wireless Amphitheater
Call 1-800-ASK-GARY Pavilion
Jiffy Lube Live
Verizon Wireless Amphitheater

This is part of the reason you've seen singers and songwriters outside of Stevie Nicks who are more than capable of filling large venues play some "off color" places. Last year, Keith Urban, who could sell out any arena he pretty much wants, took a step back and played smaller venues and state fairs.

The state fair circuit, while once laughable and seen as very 'c-list', is now a popular promotional circuit.

She would be smart to do a round of shows in August at state fairs. Sure, she can't charge $125 a ticket at these things - but she'll be able to bring in the crowds. Right now, that's what's important.

That's absolutely right.. Would you believe that Adele is the one and only person in this calendar year in the USA to shift more than 1 million albums? True... sad as that may be... half way through the year and only one artist.. that's kind of stunning actually.

I think HejiraNYC nailed it though... If you don't have to work as hard as the small theatre circuit, why would you. Yes it would be great for the fans and I'm sure a certain segment of artists enjoy that close connection... But if you are looking for the bigger bang spending your nights in theatres probably won't do it...

I think a mixture in different areas of the country/world of small and midsized venues could work if they could figure that out... Not all small venues and not all mid to large venues...

Bob Lefsetz of the Lefsetz Letter (http://lefsetz.com/wordpress/index.php/archives/2011/05/17/stevie-nickss-album/) had a few things to say about Stevie and her new album...

Stevie Nicks’s Album

She should have made a deal with Spanx!

What do we know about Stevie Nicks? She took Klonopin and got fat. If Jennifer Hudson can do a deal with Weight Watchers and only enhance her career, why can't Ms. Nicks do the same? Show she's one of the girls. Dealing with aging as opposed to trying to be younger and younger. She's got to evidence she's a member of her audience, those who buy her music.

But I would have given this album away.

That would have been the deal. Spanx pays Stevie a couple of million and does this big campaign wherein if you buy some Spanx, you get a CD...maybe even a digital download too! With live acoustic tracks!

Not that it has to be Spanx. But when Stevie Nicks makes her best album in decades it's a crime that no one will hear it. Not a crime against humanity, but against her career. The more people who hear your music, the bigger your tribe, the more people want to see you live, the more money you make. Assuming you live in the twenty first century and realize it's about total revenue, not what you make on records.

Don't watch the video. You'd think it's still the eighties. If any project called out for a fan video contest, it's this. With people having dressed like Stevie forever, with articles saying her old style is still influencing fashion today, she should have gotten her fan base energized to win a chance to appear on stage with her, maybe one person in every market. And it's young people who truly embrace YouTube, this was a way to skew young at no cost.

And the album I'm referring to has eight tracks at most. There's so much filler on the thirteen cut "In Your Dreams" you want to take it off before it's done. The filler ain't bad, but it's boring, and no one wants to be bored today.

But the winners truly win.

You've got to listen to "New Orleans".

Check out "For What It's Worth" (not the Buffalo Springfield song).

But you'll immediately be enraptured by "Secret Love". It's the opener, and like that critic on Amazon, she does sound like a baby, and the lyrics are too impressionistic and unfinished, but the track has got an amazing FEEL!

Hell, I would have released a four song EP. Isn't it about leaving people wanting more? And if they really do need more, release another EP months later.

This album is over an hour long. "Rumours" wasn't close, and there were THREE songwriters. There's no excuse for "In Your Dreams" to be this long.

But I can't stop listening to the winners.

Because they make me feel good.

And isn't that the point of music?

And you can criticize me all day long. But you're missing the point. It's not about impressing everybody, it's only about impressing THOSE THAT CARE!

All that scorched earth publicity, it reached too many people who could care less. The project was owned by the media instead of the fans. Play to the fans and they'll spread the word. Like I am. I haven't liked anything Stevie has done this much since "Bella Donna". What, is she waiting for radio to play a track and MTV to air the video? Who was in charge of this project? Does he still use a dial-up connection?

"New Orleans" barely sounds like Fleetwood Mac. It's connected to the oeuvre of that group the way your cousin is related to you. You can see the thread, but they're different. "New Orleans" is so intimate without being derivative of what Nicks has done previously that you not only feel good listening, you want to tell your buds all about it. If you ever spent a Saturday afternoon home alone, with a vinyl record spinning as your mind drifts, you'll like this.

And a musicologist could explain why "Secret Love" is so infectious. From the very first note, you're enraptured. Taken away. Your feet tap, your head does a figure 8, you've got to play it again and again and AGAIN!

I'm not gonna point out the losers.

But I am gonna say if Stevie Nicks stopped playing to the stars and put one foot in front of another here on Earth, made eye contact with those who truly care, she could get one hell of a victory lap, one that might even last.

I'm not impressed. This is one guy's opinion and from what I can tell he doesn't have any particular insight....especially not in claiming that this should have just been a 4 song EP with the 4 songs that he liked! News flash: Although I love "Secret Love" there are a lot of people who would never pick it as one of the best 4 on the album. In fact, the 1 track that nearly everyone seems to love, "Moonlight", and I'm talking people on here as well as just regular people that I've gotten the album for, is apparently one of the "losers" in this guy's opinion.

The Spanx idea is simply brilliant.
