Seems that Haley Reinhart is going to sing Rhiannon tonight on the show! :) I hope this is 100% fact and not rumour. If it is...I am sorry, but usually leaked info about AI is true. We shall find out later this evening.

Haley Reinhart to sing Rhiannon (http://mjsbigblog.com/spoilers-we-know-haley-reinharts-song-picks-thanks-mom-and-dad.htm)

Oh and BTW, the Producer who chose the song? Jimmy Iovine. ;)

EDITED: The original spoilers were wrong. MJ's has Haley's. Here's what's right:
Haley Reinhart is doing "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morissette, "What Is And What Should Never Be" by Led Zeppelin, and "Rhiannon" by Fleetwood Mac. The Fleetwood Mac song will probably be boring, but the other 2 have a lot of potential!"

I wonder which arrangement she'll use. The guitar one that... I want to say Didi(?) used last year, or a more rocking one. I can't believe they said it'll be boring; if it's done right, Rhiannon is incredible.

This could be fantastic. I liked the more mellow version Didi did last year and so I doubt Hayley will repeat that. If she doesn't end up doing crazy mad 70s style vocals at the end then it's a real wasted opportunity. I think she's brilliant, a great voice!

After the Didi travesty, it's more than understandable why "boring" would come to mind.

Normally I'm extremely wary of anyone covering one of my favorite artists, but I've been saying for a long time now that I think Haley would be good at Rhiannon, especially a wilder version like the Rosebud one or whatever. We'll see how it goes. I'm actually kind of excited for this. I do love her voice.

YMMV, of course.

If she can muster up a kick ass rocking out version, it will be great. If they try to go acoustic it will probably be not so great.

If she were smart she would go crazy and pull an exorcism young Stevie style.

Hi, I'm new on here and wanted to put my 2 cents in about Haley's song for tonight. My 5 year old daughter is a big Haley fan(therefore Mom & Dad too) and also she loves Stevie Nicks(Mom's influence of course!) so she and I are going to be thrilled to see Rhiannon performed tonight! I also hope she does a really rockin' version of it and slays it! Btw, really enjoyed seeing Stevie on DWTS last night...she looked great and happy! Love it when she smiles!

I'm sure Stevie won't be complaining. Money is money. TBH I'd be glad to hear one of Stevie's older songs get some more attention and back off of Landslide for a while, give it some room to breath .

Having her do a toned down acoustic version would be indescribably foolish. Someone did that last year for one, and her voice is soooo perfect for a crazy rocking version that they'd be idiots not to take advantage of that.
This is an actual confirmed thing and not another rumor, right? Oh well. I guess I'll find out in less than an hour.
I think there needs to be another "rumors" forum here on The Ledge - not like the album Rumours, but for discussing things related to the band that are merely rumors. Haha I'm so clever.

This is actually confirmed, I believe.

And yes, that's what I'm referring to - if they do it in the vein of the previous Idol cover of the song it will be a waste and I don't think it will go down well. I'm sure Jimmy will steer her in the right direction.

See, the way I see Haley is as almost a saloon singer. Tough cookie. Seen too much for her years (not in real life, just the aura she gives). The airy-fairy Rhiannon myths are just not her bag (neither is the dripping chiffon and/or wind machines). And, she bailed on the only part that could have made it something that it wasn't tonight. But, I'm not sure she has the control button on her growling/screaming voice. And I think that's what made even Stevie's exorcism versions of Rhiannon special. The control throughout, the sort of fight with control over the end and then the wailing from deep in her gut. By the end of the song (with Stevie) you felt like you needed to throw some holy water on her and have a Gatorade for yourself.

Uh...what was the question again? Oh, yeah. I didn't like this thing much but I didn't hate it as much as I thought I would. I actually thought it was just a really bad choice for her.

I have no opinion on her performance, but I was very impressed with the arrangement, musically...it incorporated the piano intro from The Dance, then picked up into the music of the original White Album version, and the way she ended was very reminiscent of the earlier/late-70s live versions. Someone did their homework!

Overall, it sounded like a little girl singing along to Stevie in her bedroom. :sorry: Though it was starting to show some real promise towards the end. I've gotta say, this performance makes me miss the old days when they'd put fans on Stevie to add to her dramatic stage presence. :D

I love Haley, LOOOOOOOOOVE her voice, but the performance disappointed me. She could have done so much more with it. I've been saying for ages now (I've mentioned it in other threads, I think) that I'd love to hear her do Rhiannon, and this was so anticlimactic for me. It wasn't bad, just not even close to what it potentially could have been.

Agreed! Haley is, by far the best singer left on the show, and I honestly think she was nervous because she admired Stevie so much. At the end she looked up at the ceiling, and put her hand on head, and said something like "man, I just love Stevie so much."
She did well, but, no one can ever touch Stevie when she is on fire! No one!

I love Haley. She is an amazing singer. The arrangement of the song wasn't the best, but that doesn't take away from the fact that she is immensely talented. I noticed she got the first line wrong: "Rhiannon is like bell through the night." It's too bad that they didn't give her a more rocking arrangement. Of course we Ledgies are going to be more highly critical than others - just because...we drew a line in the sand!

She didn't have time to do anything with it. If she had more time she could of done "all the same" and took it there, but there was no time. I thought she did a good job channeling the ethereal side of Stevie.

I agree that she did what she could with the song given that she only had a minute and a half. Wished she would have done a bit more on the ending but thought she did a good job even so. I hope she makes it into the final 2. The Led Zeplin song she sang was insanely good....AMAZING!

I thought she did a decent job, but wish someone had sat her down to watch the midnight special version...wish she had tried to do more of the live version...but of course, how much can you do with a minute and half? She definatley had Stevie's 'video face pose' down:] and I loved the wind machine...

She totally RAWKED on WIAWWNB, though...THAT was amazing...and besides the little forgotten words snafu, thought she was great on You Oughta Know, too...

I'm praying for some girl on girl action next week :D cuz Howdy Doodie really bother's me...

APerfectLie
05-19-2011, 05:47 AM
I just saw her performance, and while it wasn't bad, it wasn't great. She is definitely no Stevie Nicks and the wind machine would have been much more effective had she been wearing the wings. I don't see why anyone who has the opportunity to go on that stage and evoke that wild crazy energy Stevie used to use during Rhiannon would opt to play it safe. When AI gets this close to the end, it isn't about the voice, it is about performance, and hers was lackluster, especially compared to Stevie.

All the contestants have plenty of input on how they want the songs do. And, if you can do an outstanding job on one 1 1/2 minute version of a song, you can do it with a chopped up Rhiannon, too.
So, not buying the excuse.
I personally think the song was a poor match for her, but she also totally ducked out on the ending. And, if she said she's a massive fan of 70s rock and LOVES Stevie, she should have heard all the kick-ass Rhiannons through the years. I think she'd be better suited to GDW, personally, or (gulp! dare I say it) Silver Springs.

I agree that it is very difficult to cover Stevie and get away with it. This was not too bad. I agree that towards the end, she had potential to do some wailing. I would have been more impressed if she sang the "live" lyrics in the second verse - Once in a million years, a lady like her.....rises...........

RickRobert
05-19-2011, 07:32 AM
Wasn't too bad... shame they included the boring self-indulgent piano intro but she was on pitch, hit the high notes and the live stuff she put in was good.

The song choices are great...you don't get Fleetwood Mac and Led Zeppelin in France...
And though i didn't really liked Rhiannon (too much gestures, not very natural), she rocked "What is and what should never be". Beautiful voice.

Lee
05-19-2011, 08:18 AM
Really, I've liked her since the 25 were picked. And as I said in another thread I think I like her because she reminds me of Stevie. And she does have a sort of raspy voice. I guess this is why Jimmy picked it for her to sing. Rhiannon is a hard song to sing & of course, no one can sing it like Stevie, with all that emotion, but Haley did OK. Not her best song, I loved the LZ with her dad, wow, wouldn't that be cool to have a dad that can rock out like that? I liked her Atlantis song, too, & that was a hard one, too. I'd really like to see her win; I don't like country music though I think Scotty & Alana are really good.

You go, Haley!

I thought she did an excellent job, actually. I liked her vocals during the "Rhiaaaaaaanon" parts. In the interview before the song, she said that she was nervous because the song was very abstract (I think that's the word she used- don't quote me). Most people can't cover these songs because they are so made for Stevie. Singing about a mythical figure, a gypsy, etc., is ALL Stevie. And we buy it because it makes sense coming from her. And seriously, we're used to Stevie's "taken by, taken by the skkkyyy" lasting for over a minute and a half, let alone having only that for the whole performance. It's a difficult mood to present in such a short amount of time.

I haven't been watching this season which is odd because I have always enjoyed AI and God knows I love Steven Tyler.

Yeah, it was disappointing to me. I was hoping Haley would RIP Rhiannon UP! She didn't. :distress: If she had just let go, it would have been better. Haley is my favorite, but she did kinda give a half-ass performance of Rhiannon. she said she was a fan, her mom was a fan and she grew up listening to Stevie so how is it she didn't really know the words...they aren't that hard to remember. I wish she would have just cut out the piano, sang a verse and chorus and then tore into the vamping at the end. a GREAT opportunity to show off her husky voice.

I will say that I did enjoy the softness she brought to the song. it just wasn't right for a competition and for trying to outshine the other 2.

the wind was fabulous though.

A week? I don't think it's that difficult to memorize the words to 2 or 3 songs in a week, it's not like they were newly written.

But I agree that Rhiannon may not have been the best option. TBQH I think GDW could have been a better choice for her. or even Dreams (although I think Jimmy wanted more of a rock tune, and Dreams is too mellow.)

Forgot to say that I HATED the wind machine - it got a bit "Stevie-impersonator" for me there.

Two ducks did fly into my pool last week. When I thought of their droppings, it didn't make me feel quaint, happy and cozy, as it did Christine.

I remember Stevie talking about Chris. She said she imagined that Christine was raising sheep or something. She definitely made Christine's life seem more bucolic than it actually is. I had to laugh.

Haley got voted off tonight just like the last girl that sang a Stevie Nicks song at the Top 3 stage (Nikki McKibbin sang Edge of Seventeen in season one's top 3)

I thought I would share this post from the IMDb American Idol board about Haley possibly playing Stevie in the rumored biopic

They've been trying to cast that movie for over 5 years. They even had Lindsey Lohan as a possible star a few years ago, but of course that fell through. With Jimmy Iovine as the executive producer, he can get Haley cast in the starring role and she'll be PERFECT for it! In 2 years when she's accepting her OSCAR for the role, we Haley fans will be having THE LAST LAUGH! Those of us that truly know talent will appreciate seeing her have a long career in both music and film, while you fickle tweentards will have forgotten about generic Scotty within 10 months! "

I do think Haley resembles a young Stevie somewhat. Check her out here with the hat:

I'll miss Haley. I wanted her to get to the final two, maybe even win. Now I'm not sure who I want to win. I prefer Scotty, but it would be nice to have a girl winner again.

The finale is going to suck.. There is going to be WAY too much country. Haley was like the only real chick who was comfortable being herself & just loved Rock n Roll & everything bluesy. She was great. I ADORE her Rhiannon rendition although I wish she wouldn't have messed the words up. I am definitely going to buy her music whenever she puts some out, I believe she has an awesome future.

PS. Did anyone watch Beyonce's new music video & hear her song? What is music coming to? My Mom was actually terrified at the direction music is going in. I told her yeah - now you know why I listen to who I listen to.

Rhiannon didn't kill her. Loves teenage voters killed her. She is clearly the best. Idol is a joke.Clearly, Crystal Bowersox and Adam Lambart should of won their seasons. I'm not watching the final. I think all the judges know it is a joke too.

I liked Haley through the whole thing...I do think she got better on stage as the season progressed - in the beginning she seemed a little cheesy performing, although her singing was fantastic from day one...but I always thought Lauren would win...I like her too...Scotty is ridiculous (not to mention lop-sided) I think he has a decent voice, but that's it...I hope Lauren wins, but won't be surprised if she doesn't...the little girls seem to understand something I don't ...

I haven't liked anyone this entire season - boooooring. But it's pretty obvious they've been setting up a country duel for several weeks.

What a boring end to a great season of American Idol... how did Lauren get to the final? Every time she starts to sing, yaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwn...

Adam Lambert pretty much did win his season... he got voted as Ultimate Idol recently and his album and DVD did really well - and the album was mostly great even though he didn't get long to record it. Not to mention the 100+ date world tour he did. As for Kris Allen um... did he release an album?

This is the key. Voters don't vote on who's actually better. All BS. So I was nor surprised with the result in truth.

My coworkers & I have a finale party every year. But we pretty much eat & drink & shoot the **** while AI is on in the background. I won't be paying much attention.

The last great finale I recall is the season with Michael JOhns & carly duetting on The Letter, and Brooke White doing "Teach Your Children Well" with - graham Nash I think? I don't even remember whose season that was - David Cooke maybe?

Whatever.

If that's their mindset, how did Lee DeWyze or David Cook even break the top 13?

Agreed. Idol is a joke! I reluctantly started watching it this season, mostly out of curiosity at what JLo and Steven Tyler would add. But it became evident that their critiques were benign and without true merit or criticism. And as soon as J. Durbin and now Haley have exited, It has confirmed my belief that this show main voting demographic has become mostly red state pre-teen to teenage girls and their mothers, nobody of true diversity or unique style will ever win this show again.

The last winner in Idol's history to win with true vocal prowess and some uniqueness & diversity was Fanatsia winner of season 3 way back in 2004. Do we even remember the other winners besides Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson?? Whatever became of Taylor Hicks?? and Jordan Sparks, Dave Cook, Kris Allen and Lee Dewyze are all forgettable and Idol failures for the most part:rolleyes: Even my own mother decided after Adam Lambert was cast off 2 yrs ago that she was boycotting the show! And she has, and I find myself in the same place -I'll never watch this show again. A complete waste of time. And I will tune out watching these 2 boring country bumpkins compete in the finals next week. This show has always been somewhat of a joke, but it has now officially jumped the shark for me. It's telling when they have a viewership of 20-25 million viewers and 95 million combined votes cast for the final 3! How can you compete with these individuals (mostly teens) casting hundreds, if not thousands of votes via text or otherwise - It's totally skewed. In comparison I cast a paltry 10 votes for Haley, I couldn't be bothered voting more:rolleyes: It is what it is and I for one am not surprised with the outcome. I saw it coming as soon as James was voted off last week. Goodbye Idol, It's been sometimes fun, but mostly frustrating and mindless entertainment.

And finally, Thank God Stevie nixed her appearance on Idol! I'm now very happy that she will not be a part of this fiasco and bombastic finale.

Too bad about Haley very good voice and great looks and presence.I only tuned in for that one show to see the Rhiannon cover but the other two remaining ones do not even seem to have much star quality at all compard to the girl that got the boot.

Hey, that's not totally true; my mom just loves Scotty & she is way past the younger mother stage.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the what ever happened to the Idols. In defense of Taylor (though I don't know why I am since he cancelled a singing event close by to me that I had tickets for so he could try to sell his book), he's been touring around in plays for like forever. I'm not sure he's interested in singing in clubs & venues (touring) I guess; maybe it's getting old for him.

Yeah, I like Haley. She has cool parents, she's into classic rock & she's only 20. She's probably better off; she's not stuck in an AI record deal. She can do her own thing (& maybe with Casey, I'm just saying) I sort of think you should be 18 anway to get a record deal.

I do like Kelly Clarkson though. Don't like country music & I do not like Carrie Underwood.

I am, too, kind of glad Stevie is not going to be on AI now.

Rhiannon certainly didn't help Haley's chances of staying on. It just frankly, wasn't that great of a performance of the song and it wasn't that great of a performance for Haley, especially not for a final 3. Like someone else mentioned above, for the most part only Stevie can do Stevie.... and while I do think that Haley could have pulled something of Stevie's off, Rhiannon was clearly not the right song... she would have been better suited doing Edge or something tbh.

However, I personally know a lot of people who didn't vote for Haley because her attitude the week before was pretty bad apparently. So obviously there are a lot of factors.

yeah...because rock and roll stars are supposed to be models of good attitudes and behavior... Thank goodness no one ever told Mick Jagger to behave.

People are so dumb for basing their support or lack of support on "attitude". Did the people criticizing her for "talking back" happen to notice how biased and idiotic Randy and J-Lo were with their critiques? Frankly the judges have RARELY, if ever, criticized Scotty and Lauren and even James even when they clearly deserved it. Meanwhile they would be hard on Haley to make the public think she was the weakest so they wouldn't vote for her. It was all part of exec. producer Nigel Lythgoe's plan for an all-country Final 2. Haley was just defending herself and calling BS when she saw it. She should be admired for it, not chastised. I would have done the same thing.

Yes, I agree. Randy rambled on and on negatively about her rendition of MJ's "Earth Song", while I thought it was a poor song choice for Haley, but she did sing it about as well as she could have. But she certainly didn't deserve the berating she got form Randy & JHo, but mostly Randy. If I were Haley I would have been definitely a little put off as well. But that was the week James was voted off. Ultimately, the judges seemed to be started showing more and more bias towards Scotty and Lauren and priming the finale for a bland country showdown between these two slight personalities. That and throw in the demographic factor of the voters and Haley & James did not stand a chance.

My mother-in-law and her sister are over 70 years old and they have been voting for Scotty all season. Reason - he's from NC. I liked Lauren out of the three that were left so glad she is still there. Scotty looks like the MAD magazine character with a touch of Duggar family looks:eek:
