That feels about right for me. The best songs on 'In Your Dreams' are near perfect, but I prefer the 'filler' on 'Trouble In Shangri-La'.

I personally love Wide Sargasso Sea and think it's one of the best on the new album but better than Planets??? Truly shocking.

I never cared for the production of Planets on TISL. Love the demo, though.

[TrueFaith77]

Funny that "In Your Dreams" and "Italian Summer" have been deemed 2 of the best Stevie songs ever by many in the press, yet this poll does not show that fans like those cuts overwhelmingly.

Sorcerer might be better than IYD, but the BN demo of Sorcerer is superior to TISL version, in my opinion. That said, IYD is a power-pop masterpiece. The production and the harmonies are superior. Thus, it won for me. As for IS vs. FFG. FFG might be my preferred song, BUT the production on TISL is rather flabby AND I now feel FFG has been eclipsed by GAG as Stevie's definitive rocker track. Thus, IS's sweeping perfection and sophistication defeats the passionate FFG.

1 tie.

Though there might be some stronger tracks on TISL, i think it's pretty easy to take some of the best demos from BN or Rumours, and then turn them into solid songs (Planets, Candlebright, Sorcerer). Just not so creative.
Another thing, i can't even imagine listening to Moonlight without playing Annabel Lee right after it. This album flows, so comparing songs is not so fair, and not very representative of IYD's superiority as an album (ok, that's just my opinion. But i trully dislike TISL. Even the song titles are terrible.)

[TerraRhiannon]

IYD tunes all down the list.

[Ghosty]

Take my opinion with a grain of salt. I have only heard IYD pretty much once through the rolling stone stream, and not all in one sitting either, on my laptop which doesn;t have very loud or good sound. And for all the IYD songs I'm going on memory here, of hearing it once, except for a few songs I listened to a few times.

Trouble In Shangri-La vs. Secret Love - TISL (but close to a tie)

Candlebright vs. For What It’s Worth - FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH

Sorcerer vs. In Your Dreams - IN YOUR DREAMS (unless we are talking the demo of sorcerer, but i know we aren't)

Planets of the Universe vs. Wide Sargasso Sea - this is a hard one, TIED, maybe?

Every Day vs. New Orleans - EVERYDAY (that could change after I hear new orleans more)

Too Far From Texas vs. Moonlight - MOONLIGHT (I think will be a new stevie "forever favorite" of mine)

That Made Me Stronger vs. Annabel Lee - ANNABEL LEE

It’s Only Love vs. Soldier’s Angel - ANYTHING'S better than It's Only Love

So, they're about even, tho I'd say that I like IYD a tad more.

[SapphireSister]

Help me out here guys and gals and I say this with the truest sincerity...Does the general consensus just agree that overall IYD is a better album than TISL as this thread indicates or is it just that the people that prefer TISL aren't participating? I know I'm in the minority here and again, please don't be mad at me because this is not a dis of IYD I just find myself more attached to the TISL songs because I have so many memories and emotions involved with that album over the last 10 years and only a couple of weeks worth with IYD. Am I not being objective in terms of what a good song is and purely acting purely on emotions? Probably so but I'm wondering if anyone else feels this way or understands what I'm saying. Again, I know it's all a matter of taste but maybe my in skewed due to my undying attachment to TISL lol. Maybe in 2 years from now I will feel differently and be able to compare them fairly but right now it's really difficult. I just had to say that b/c it's been on my mind all day and I really felt like I had to force myself to vote for some of the IYD songs.

[BombaySapphire3]

Why "force" yourself to vote for a song on IYD that you like less than one on TISL?What I think alot of people myself included are responding to may be the overall consistency of the production of IYD.IMO it holds together better than TISL as a complete album where there were too many cooks in the kitchen. The high points on TISL pretty much equal anything on IYD IMO.They are both very good albums.

O.k. I can see that...

[tabruns]

I agree, TISL and IYD are both very good albums. Stevie should be proud that she produced two excellent albums later in her career.

[Hawkeye]

Its weird, I started to make a thread like this a few days ago except I tried to maych up according to categories like the obvious Fall From Grace vs. Ghosts are Gone (straight ahead rockers) ironically i also matched up Planets and WSS (secondary rockers) I had to make some stretches for some comparisons but I was able to do 12 matchups and then the remaining 2 left got matched up. But anyways I put a lot of thought into it but forgot to copy my whole post before submitting it and I got signed out in that time and it was lost :Frown: maybe Ill remake it when this thread fizzles out.

And my computer never ceases to amaze me, It wont let me hit the Bold key or any of those keys next to it so I'll be writing my winners in all caps.

I like more individual songs on IYD than on TISL, but I much prefer TISL as a whole. IYD seems choppy whereas I feel like TISL's songs go so perfectly together.

Trying this one again, after listening to IYD for a while.

Trouble In Shangri-La vs. Secret Love
I like TISL. I just really have come to love Secret Love, so much more than I did when it first came out. It's a little gem, imo.

Candlebright vs. For What It’s Worth
Love Candlebright. Love For What It's Worth. Can't choose. They are both stand-out tracks on their respective albums.

Sorcerer vs. In Your Dreams
Can't choose. Again, one of my favorites on TISL and one of my favorites on IYD.

Planets of the Universe vs. Wide Sargasso Sea
That was laughably easy. Planets is one of my favorite Stevie tracks of all times, superb songwriting. Can't say the same for WSS.

Every Day vs. New Orleans
I don't love New Orleans quite as much as I did when the album first came out, but I never liked Every Day at all.. soo..

Too Far From Texas vs. Moonlight
No explanation necessary.

That Made Me Stronger vs. Annabel Lee
Ditto to the above.

It’s Only Love vs. Soldier’s Angel
I REFUSE TO CHOOSE. I love them both too much. It's Only Love is one of of those songs I play when I feel like crying.

Love Changes vs. Everybody Loves You
Not crazy about either but that one verse and the bridge of ELY are so strong and potent.

I Miss You vs. Ghosts Are Gone
Meh.

Bombay Sapphires vs. You May Be The One
I can't really get into Bombay Sapphires :/

Fall From Grace vs. Italian Summer
If it weren't for the bizarre lyrics in IS...

Love Is vs. Cheaper Than Free
Love Is makes me cry. CTF makes me take the CD out.

[BombaySapphire3]

Ihad forgotten all about my beloved moniker song going up against YMBTO:rolleyes: that one is the gift that just keep on giving.Annabel vs. TMMS is the worst mismatch since the Bentson-Quayle VP debate.
