I've never had a harder time not listening to an album. I first started listening to In Your Dreams 15 days ago. And any other music now seems inferior  I don't get it. This didn't happen with TISL or SYW. Maybe because I was much newer fan then and while the "new" album was the newest thing, it wasn't "that" much newer then everything else I was listening to, and in the case of TISL there was still Stevie?Mac related material I had yet to even purchase, so I had a lot more to explore. I've spent the last 8 years rotating the same material, granted great material and a lot of it. So this album has just been an even bigger event to me then I thought it was gonna be. And if the album was not good or even mediocre it'd be different. But the album exceeded my espectations.

Anyone else struggling to listen to anything else but IYD?

I wouldn't say I have had this experience... but as much as Stevie will always be at/near the top of my list as far as musical taste, I have a need for always maintaining a variety in what I listen to on a daily basis (classical, world music, prog/classic rock, pop music). I have never been able to listen to anything on repeat (on rare occasion, I might listen to an album 2 times in a row). However having said that, I do notice that each time I listen to IYD, I enjoy it equally as much or with respect to certain songs, even more so than before... and that doesn't happen very often for me. I also look forward to hearing it again each time, but I have deliberately kept myself from listening to it too much within a short period of time... I don't want to overdo it and get tired of it too quickly.

Yeah..this week I bought the new Fleet Foxes album and have not listened to it all the way through yet..also probably because it's just not as good as their first one.

Yes. I fear I'm wearing the album out. :distress: I tell myself every day that I'm going to listen to something else and give the album a break, but that never ends up happening. Though I did take a break today and listened to some Christine McVie. :D

I'm right behind you. It's borderline worn out for me as well. I *NEED* to give it a rest before I sour to the album. I haven't listened to it today... maybe I can keep up my willpower.

Right now, the women songs of IYD are separating themselves from the girl songs.

Happily, I'm finding an album of 7 songs that are now in my bloodstream, which there they shall stay. In a year or two, 5 or 4 will go to my bone marrow, that's fine. In 10 years (knock on wood), I will be happy with 3 songs in the DNA of every cell.

Yes, even just played the "new" Kate Bush. And I was just like: It's no IYD.

Nah, I'm in one of my ABBA moods lately, so I keep going back to Arrival.

Although, when a song from IYD comes on shuffle, I do the gayest "ooh, yay!" possible.

IYD had a shelf life of 3 weeks for me. I've moved on to my regular scheduled programming and listen to IYD occasionally.

Personally I don't really want to listen to anything else. I keep hearing new things in each song with repeated listening. That's one of the best things about Stevie's music for me. Lyrics take on new meaning, especially if I listen from what I think is her perspective -- lots of that needed for me for New Orleans. I find myself humming or singing some catchy phrases in my head at random times - even when just waking up. I love hearing elements of Traveling Wilbury's/ Petty, something that starts to sound like I Sing for the Things and a very Fleetwood Mac-sounding title track. And dare I say "Puff the Magic Dragon" at the beginning of Annabel Lee. And when did I EVER think she'd use violins! I'm so obsessed that my students get bonus points on their final exams this week for figuring out "who is the 62 yo female singer hall of famer, rock chick who just released a new CD after a decade...and go buy it!"

This album brought me back to these boards after a 3 (4?) year absence, because it's the only thing that's been coming out of every speaker in my car and house! :wavey:

I've tried switching on the radio, but after a few mins I just go back to the cd! I will say I'm still not crazy about the sequence; it sounds better on shuffle I've decided...

You lasted that long??? I haven't listened to the album for over a week. I'm working my way through the 3,500 songs that iTunes says I have never listened to. When I get through them in about two months I might go back and listen to IYD.

LOL... I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who tries to listen to all those tracks that have zero play counts in iTunes/on an ipod.

I can definitely listen to other stuff besides IYD. Perhaps that's why I haven't tired of the CD yet.

That and the fact that I dearly love the title track and "Ghosts Are Gone" but "Soldier's Angel" "Wide Sargasso Sea" and "Moonlight" all find some of their lyrics have seeped into my brain helps. I do find I skip "Secret Love" A LOT, perhaps because we heard plenty of it in the days leading up to IYD and I've tried to spend the time discovering all the new material.

But yeah, I'm definitely not burned out on IYD by any stretch.

For the most part, yes! The thing for me, fortunately, is that I have my own song writing to turn to when I need a break from it!! :)

I've actually written two songs since IYD was released. Lyrics only, but still.

Me too, I even pulled out the 'Other Side of the Mirror' the same night I got the new CD and it had been awhile. :D

It is weird, I really am not a fan -overall- of this album.

I love 5 songs, and can't stand the rest...

BUT, the songs I love- Moonlight, In Your Dreams, Annabel Lee, Ghosts are Gone, and Secret Love are so good that I am listening to THEM over and over. Especially Moonlight. It is sprawling. Love it so much.

I've listened to it so, so much between the Rolling Stone stream and finally getting my copy. I've just actually switched it off. Not because I'm sick of it (FAR from it!) but I decided to listen to the new Alison Krauss and Union Station album again. I'm alternating between them. Bliss...

I have so many new albums to listen to. Alison, Stevie, kd Lang, Emmylou Harris... Stevie mostly though!

By the way louie, I quoted you because I saw your avatar pic and thought for a minute that I had already contributed to this thread but couldn't remember! I got confused... I was drinking at a freind's wedding yesterday after all!

No, I find it easy to listen to other things too. Since I'm constantly listening to music no matter what I'm doing (Besides work,) I have time to listen to the whole album and then whatever tickles my fancy. It's not getting old for me though. But I usually listen to at least half of it everyday.

that's exactly how I have felt...I found out about the stream 20 min after it came out and I started listening to it nonstop until last week and I had to take a break...and well also because my daughter yelled at me telling me she was sick of hearing it  but Ive been listening to several songs on TISL and various FM songs and today I got it out and started listening to it again;)

Anyone else struggling to listen to anything else but IYD?

Nope. I've been struggling to listen to IYD just as a "break" from my total Prince obsession the last few weeks since I saw him in concert. Once I put it in the player, though, I have listened to it about 30 times. Totally immersed myself in it for a few days...then back to Prince.

I've almost tripled my Prince CD collection in 3 weeks. Thank God for used CD shops and the used section of Amazon.com.

I've even gone so far as to having to delete everything CSNY & Eagles related to make room on my iPod for the new Prince stuff. I need a new iPod Classic (or two)...my current iPod Classic doesn't come close to holding my entire music collection.

Speaking of Prince (and how to relate it to something Fleetwood Mac oriented), on his Planet Earth album there's a song called "The One U Wanna C". It sounds like something Lindsey might've done. I could definitely hear Lindsey doing the song for a Prince Tribute album or something of the sort.

I loved Prince for the first 10 or 12 years of his career. Just couldn't get enough. And his sound was so distinctive, it didn't matter if it was Time, Vanity 6 (Appollonia 6) you could recognize his music immediately. There was just nothing else like it. But things tapered off for me some time after that.

I think Lindsey mentioned that Prince caught a couple of FM's shows once. There's this song of Prince's called Fury which reminds me of Stevie and Lindsey. Obviously the "he's so afraid" makes me think of Lindsey, but the use of the word shadow reminds me of the "Shadow of the West" lyrics at the end. Thorn, queen, king and rainy day references all remind me of Stevie's lyrics.

FURY
You must have heard it on the news this morning
Congratulations a new star is born
Sun to a shadow rose to a thorn
There ain't no fury like a woman scorned

Y'all must have dug it when you did your thang
It's like a song everybody wanna sang
When the music's over your ears ring
With a voice that's saying "Queen got no King"

He got a message saying you tried to reach him on the phone
He didn't wanna answer 'cuz he's so afraid
You'd probably tell him just to leave you alone

You must have heard he got another band
They're makin' money they're makin' plans
You feel left out but you need to understand
Word on the street he's still your man
He's still your man he's still your man

Look out look out look out here comes your rainy day
Now you think you got a good reason to say
Everything that's in your heart come what may
Even though his might get broken

Who's the guilty one when there ain't no judge or jury?
Shadow to the sun next to the one
Hell ain't got no fury

It will approach us the debt he's been in
Open to the heart in need of mending
Will this song have a happy ending?
Only the woman knows only she knows

Two sides to every story
One man's gloom is another man's glory
Sun to a shadow rose to a thorn
There ain't no fury like a woman scorned

Ain't no fury like a woman scorned
No fury like a woman scorned
No fury like a woman scorned

I need to buy some Prince albums... I'm finally getting to where I am really enjoying his music. I still have that whole name/symbol thing from the '90s burned into my mind all these years later. That name/symbol thing always came across to me as a stunt a spoiled brat would pull. I understand now why he did it... but I guess I feel most celebs should be a bit more humble and appreciative of their fame & fortune. Yes, devour me like wolves.

Absolutely. This is what annoys me the most. They are doing jobs and earning incomes that many people would kill for and yet so many of the b***h about it. Get real.

Great song from the 3121 album. A few of Prince's more recent albums have floored me how good they are. From Musicology up to LOtUSFLOW3R...(I think that's a four album stretch from 2006-09)...just killer tunes.

I have not been able to listen to IYD at all - lol! I am still waiting for my order from good ol' barnes and noble. Did WB just not make enough cd's or something? I have to say, my enthusiasm is gone. I'm sure it will hit me when I get the package in the mail, but right now I've gone into "whatever" mode. Kind of like, out of sight, out of mind. Good job, WB. :s

New Stevie Nicks cd? What new Stevie Nicks cd?
