What's your three all time Fave Horror Films?
I'm talking slasher type movies like the Jason, Freddie & Michael kind! :cool:
The 80's era was the best!
1) Halloween
2) A Nightmare on Elm Street
3) The Fog

I ****ing love horror movies! I watch all kinds of horror movies, and my favorites usually end up being the B-rated ones. It is hard to pick three all time favorites tho, but here goes:
1. Halloween
2. When A Stranger Calls Back
3. The Strangers
Speaking of horror movies, has anyone seen any recent horror movies that are good? It seems like most current horror movies just aren't that great, but I every once in a while I will stumble upon one that is rather original and somewhat scary. There was this one called Amusement that came out in 2008 or 2009 I believe and it is has become one of my favorites! Also that movie Trick-r-Treat turned out pretty good. I also hear Insidious is supposed to be amazing, but I have yet to see it.

I love horror flicks & I haven't even seen any of the remakes that have came out in recent years like Halloween, Friday The 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street & My Bloody Valentine!!:eek:
Oh & Amityville! (I read that a guy that lived in that house in the 90's died on 9/11 in the Twin Towers) Talk about crappy luck!:shocked:

A few good 'newer' horror movies-
The Orphanage
The Decent
Audition
Martyrs
The Devil's Rejects
28 Days Later
Dawn of the Dead (remake)
Silver Springs

I've never been very big on Horror movies. To me they bulk up the gore and effects to the detriment of the story, thus alienating me. Though I suppose a couple I like, though I don't think they'd fall into the category of Slasher.
* Ginger Snaps
* House Of Wax (Original)
* Theatre Of Blood
* Thir13en Ghosts

Yes yes yes!! 'The Company of Wolves' is such a fantastic movie. Not enough people have seen it.
I LOVE horror films, although I'm not a huge fan of slasher films. I'd say my favourites are 'Suspiria', 'The Exorcist', 'Rosemary's Baby' and 'Night of the Demon'.
'Hocus Pocus' too, although I guess that's not technically a horror film...

Thank you. My list keeps getting bigger, but I feel I'm missing something major. hmmm...
eta: something major now added :lol: I think those spielberg films count.
ETA: Also, I had totally forgotten one of the true horror masterpieces: Bill Gunn's Ganja & Hess. A mighty film and the dvd restoration is terrific. (though nothing beats seeing it on the big screen)
ETA: omg i forgot NEAR DARK!?!?

Have you seen any of Dario Argento movies? He's my favourite horror director, although he's certainly an acquired taste. If you haven't seen Suspiria though, you are missing out on a treat! :nod:

I have seen Suspiria. (I used to loooooove Jessica Harper.) But I don't really care for Argento's work.

I love horror movies, but not slasher films which aren't really scary anyway. I don't know if I can pick my three favorites, but three I loved watching are:
The Exorcism of Emily Rose
The Fourth Kind
The Strangers
When I was a kid, I remember being horrified by The Prince of Darkness - so corny now but it sure did scare me then. :laugh:

I actually hate the film adaptation of "The Company of Wolves". Angela Carter's original story is so much better. We were forced to watch the film in English. Bad tiiiimes.
Some of my favourites are
The Mothman Propechies - this one actually really really **** me up but it's just so GOOD
The Others
The Village

Midnight Meat Train
So, I watched this one night while I was home alone. I had to pause the movie for about an hour and take a break from it. If I recall, it was the scene where the photographer first discoveres the subway car with the hooks and bodies hanging in it.
I found it just disturbing enough that I needed to pause, eat some dinner with ALL THE LIGHTS ON and then I could resume watching it. :laugh:

Too funny (what did you have for dinner? Meat?). I got really, really worked up when the photographer's girlfriend is searching the Butcher's apartment, including pausing. This coming from someone generally desensitized to horror films.

Carrie was extremely creepy. I love horror flicks!!
I am in love with the Saw series. The pshycological thriller thing appeals to me. It's a really well thought out story line, & unless you watch it front to back, you wouldn't understand it. It's complex and amazing. Kinda disturbs me though that someone in society came up with this & wrote it.
I can watch Saw but not Hostel though - it goes a little too far.

I'm not a big horror movie fan. So here's a couple maybe:
1/Halloween the 1st 78 version best!!
2/ The Haunting original version b & w with Julie Harris --very suspenseful
3/ Shadow of a Doubt--b & w Hitchcock older movie--no blood or anything but suspeneful again.
4/ Psycho ** like suspense more than blood & guts really. Thats just me but theres nothing wrong with that. I heard of alot of these movies like The Fog/etc but just never have sat down to watch them. I like movies but I'm not really a big movie person. :shrug:

Yes. I bought it on DVD and it doesn't live up to the original. It has its moments and it's a great throwback to the era. Worth a few watches at least.

I'm a sucker for cheesy 80's slasher films. Especially the low-budget, relatively unknown ones - The House On Sorrority Row, Mirror Mirror, My Bloody Valentine, The Funhouse, Sleepaway Camp, Happy Birthday To, The Burning Me etc. But in terms of seriously scary films that I love, I think the "Alien" series is pretty spot on. It's been a LONG time since a film actually scared me, but the suspense in Alien and the jumps in Aliens get me every time. Also a big fan of the "Nightmare On Elm Street" and "Halloween" films, but who isn't? :lol:.
I prefer the classics, but recent horror flicks worthy of a mention include Wolf Creek, Creep and The Hills Have Eyes remake. Very few people make decent scary movies anymore.
