The first lady of rock 'n' roll! A true legend and one of our all-time favorites!!!

Perez recently had the rare opportunity and privilege to be invited into the home of Stevie Nicks to talks about her new album, In Your Dreams, which was released this week. Her first solo record in 10 years!!!

We talked about why there was such a long delay between albums, the music industry, how she made this new record, why she had Lindsey Buckingham play on it, the future of Fleetwood Mac, what new artists she's loving - and so much more!

Read highlights from our chat after the jump and watch our interview in full (above)!!!

P.S. Katy Perry will be very happy after she sees this video!

Stevie Nicks: Right, I did a big Fleetwood Mac 83 shows tour. And when I got done with that, I said, "I'm ready to make a record and I don't care if anybody buys it. I'm just going to — I'm making it for me. But I, when I make something for me, I know that if I love it, my fans will love it.

Perez Hilton: Now I heard rumors that Fleetwood Mac might be getting back together next year. Is that true? Can we talk about that?

Stevie Nicks: Always.

Perez Hilton: It's definitely happening?

Stevie Nicks: Lindsey has a record coming out in the fall and by the way it's extraordinary.

Perez Hilton: Are you on his record?

Stevie Nicks: No. But that was before we had our amazing peace you know. But it's my favorite thing he's ever done. I think it's brilliant. I think he took some serious melody pills and lyric pills and he came up with a beautiful, beautiful album. So that's going out in the fall. This is coming out May 3rd, next week.

Perez Hilton: Yeah.

Stevie Nicks: So by the time, you know when this album and Lindsey's album come to a stop then Fleetwood Mac will gather again and we'll either make another record or we won't and we'll just go on tour.

Perez Hilton: So that hasn't been decided yet if there will be a new record?

Stevie Nicks: That hasn't, no.

Perez Hilton: So you just got off the road with Rod Stewart, might you be doing your own solo tour soon?

Stevie Nicks: It all depends on what happens when this record comes out. And I have said this to many people because –

Perez Hilton: What do you mean?

Stevie Nicks: — you don't really know.

Perez Hilton: So if it doesn't sell that much you're not going to tour?

Stevie Nicks: Yeah, if the record comes out and it you know blasts out like a rocket, and then all of a sudden you'll start getting offers from promoters from Europe, from the United States, from Australia. We're already going to Australia in November. We do well in Australia. I don't even have to have a record to go to Australia. But, so if the record is a huge you know sparkler then you nev–you don't know because people will wait. All the promoters, all the people in this business will wait to see what this record does. And if it does really well then –

Perez Hilton: But you're Stevie Nicks, you could tour whenever you want.

Stevie Nicks: I know. But I just did 18 shows coming across the United States with Rod Stewart. So we have really played the United States even though there's you know there's 50 more, we did 53 Fleetwood Mac shows two years ago. So there's you know thousands of other cities you can go to. But, I can't tell you Perez because I honestly don't know. What do I hope? I hope that this come out of the gate like a rocket and I hope that people do love it and I hope that we get offers to play all over the world.

Perez Hilton: Is there anybody you're really liking these days?

Stevie Nicks: I — well my favorite song right now is Katy Perry song "ET".

Perez Hilton: Really?

Stevie Nicks: That's my favorite.

OMG, I'm so going back to Australia!!! :blob1:

But I'm rather shocked that she hasn't already slated a 30-city tour in the U.S. It just goes to show you that, despite her saying that she doesn't really care whether the album sells or not, she does care! She's under the delusion that the album will be such a blockbuster that offers will flood her inbox. Really?

I think she talking about a huge tour vs shows. She may be sick of touring too and she hinted around that people have already saw her this year with Rod Stewart. It would probably hurt her own tour. She may also want to get into the studio secretly.

grr this interview annoyed me?!!! stevie needs to do a solo tour stat! i have no idea why she is worried about touring. she doesnt need to do the huge sheds anymore. she should be thinking about playing places that hold between 5,000-10,000 seats. ugh! i want to hear stevie singing annabel lee or moonlight this summer. why stevie why?! i want her cd to go to #1 and sell millions but thats just not going to happen.
i do like that she likes katy perry though. i just got into her and have been obsessed with ET too.

This is my favorite part:

"He took some serious melody pills, and lyrics pills, and came up with a beautiful, beautiful album."

It's her little acknowledgment that some of his previous stuff might have been a bit out-there and maybe not to her liking...but he took the meds and fixed it

Katy Perry? Seriously? Oh dear. Oh dear. Oh dear. Probably not a popular opinion, but I hate it how much more established artists try and make connections with younger audiences by claiming to enjoy newer artists. Maybe sometimes it's true, but on the whole they are just big fat liars.

I have to wonder if she isn't all that interested in touring at this point, cause she could afford to back it herself? Maybe it will be just a few shows here and there? Bummer! oh well I am second row center for Las Vegas!

Thanks for posting. I've never seen Perez before, but have heard of him. That was a nice little interview and she looked great. Weird how she has to wait for promoters to see if she'll tour. Makes it seem like the Rod tour was not such a good thing, if that ends up being a reason for no one to want to promote her to tour again now. It did seem silly to me for her to tour right before a cd coming out, but I'm clueless in that whole music world business.

I love Stevie's poetry. I wish she'd release a book of it since it will never all fit on enough cd's. Usually when I would get a new Stevie album I'd read lyrics first before listening to it because I love just her words as they are just as much as they are in the songs.

I'm not in the least surprised that she let it slip that she really does care very much if the album sell. Her identity is her rock stardom. She would never really be comfortable with reduced venues and the loss of the other trappings of stardom .

Great, this is exactly what I feared would happen. Can someone please tell me why it was a good idea for her to tour with Rod? I feel like that decision just sabatoged the entire release...what's done is done (and I'm probably just really heated from the fact that I think her touring with him and then being immediately shoved into aggressive promotion has every reason with why she ended up getting sick at the worst of all times) But now she's saying that touring with Rod has taken away the possibility of a tour supporting the release unless it does really well?? If she had time to rest for this time in her life that was so important for the release of the record, she would have really been able to see how all of the release date promo high-profile events would have helped the record. And...if she hadn't toured with Rod, she probably would have toured no matter how the record did. :(

I totally agree. I think she is happy right now and very much into touring. I don't doubt the promoters and venues will be calling soon. She's a savvy businesswoman; I'm sure she learned alot through the years. She'll be jumping on all of it, IHO. It's what she does and who she is, period.

On a side note, has anyone out there in the fashion industry ever seen the pantyhose-custom-made-gloves before? They are so distracting --- maybe hiding the aging hands, or are they magnetic trreatment for arthritis, or seriously, some new fashion thing ?? Please, enlighten me..ugh.

Actually with the gloves and all, I've been wondering if Stevie has had some kind of rejuvenation done on her hands. Some of the gloves definitely look rehabilitative. Smacking a tambourine against your hand for 40 plus years probably doesn't help.

i think if she played venus that hold around 5,000 people she would be able to go to more places and end up making some good money. in pittsburgh they just opened stage ae this year and it holds from 2,400 to 5,500 people and they have a ton of bands booked there from motley crue, goo goo dolls, a perfect circle etc. i read an article where promoters were saying the days of bands playing the big sheds are just about gone.

If the CD does well, I can see her doing a short U.S. tour in late summer/early fall, leading up to Australia.

As for her tour with Rod, it gave her massive media attention and also helped to put her back on the public's mind. Plus, almost every review I read mentioned she had a new CD coming out. Plus she looked really good, and even the few so-so reviews marked about how happy and fresh she looked. It was all very good PR.

I think at some point she gives up touring, or only does smaller shows. I can't really see her going on full-throttle much longer. She's looking and sounding good for her age, but she's still nearly 63, and the body starts to naturally slow down.

I agree with all that you just said. This just sucks. And I'm convinced the Rod thing did help eff up the promotion for IYD. They cut it too close and now she's sick!

Does anyone here know - is it STEVIE or her MANAGEMENT that insists on her only playing large venues? Whoever it is, they need to get over it.

I'm going to be a little annoyed if she does end up touring the US and Australia again but doesn't play at least one solo show in London. It's not like she's unknown here or couldn't sell out a show. Her association with Fleetwood Mac would surely guarantee a sell out or near to. She could play somewhere like Royal Albert Hall. I don't really want to pay for the Hard Rock Calling show in Hyde Park when I don't paticularly like Rod Stewart or anyone else on the bill.

I was actually looking at the box office date on FMLegacy. com and I was surprised to see that she's rarely been able to sell out a large arena on any of her solo tours post Rock a Little. I noticed that the smaller venues that held around 5,000-7,000 people sold out while the bigger venues of 10,000 + she had trouble with. Why put her in venues she couldn't possibly sell out as a solo artist? Some shows were less than 30% sold in a 15,000+ seat arena. She should just swallow her pride and stick to the amphitheatres and smaller venues etc.

Not to mention the fact that she's wearing them in the house

I thought "sheds" were "smaller", "outdoor" venues? No?

I think she'll tour (smaller venues). It just doesn't make sense. She's tours when she doesn'thave a new cd (with new material) Crystal Visions, Unleashed and Rod Stewart but then doesn't tour when she does have a new cd? Sometimes she just doesn't make sense

Try not to look at absolute sales/seat numbers. A show does not have to be a sell out to be a profitable show or to make back the promoter guarantee. In some markets, 30% capacity is expected or may even exceed that market for various reasons (day of week, geographical city, etc).

However, I'd like to see her do more intimate shows at smaller venues. In bigger markets, she could easily do 2-3 shows if the venue is small.

yeah the gloves are creepy!! yeah i guess sheds are really any outdoor venue huh? i guess i just thought of them as bigger ampitheatres. we have the first niagara pavilion here that can sell out at 20k but can also hold up to 23-24k . then there is stage ae that can be outdoors and hold 5,500 as well as the trib total ampitheatre that holds between 5,000 seated and 10,000 ga seats. heart came there last year and sold out the place. those were some tough tickets to get and i have been going to concerts for over 20 years now. i think it looks better to sell out smaller venues then to be playing somewhere like the first niagara and only sell half the tickets. she could come to stage ae and do 2 shows and sell just as many tickets.

i agree she doesnt make any sense. i dont know why this surprises me because i am a gemini as well and half the crap i say doesnt make sense. lol i am always contradicting myself, ha!!

I get what you're saying.

But if a show booked into a 20,000 seat arena was only expected to sell out by 30%, why not just put her in an actual venue (if one is avaliable) that fits the 6,000 or so seats she expected to sell? I just think it's stupid putting her in a big arena when she can't even fill it. There's nothing worse than going to a show and there being thousand of empty seats. It takes away from the atmosphere, to me anyway. On one of the dates she only sold about 3,000 seats of a near 20,000 arena. That's embarrassing.

A friend who was in concert promotion (mainly Whitney Houston back in the day) explained to me how it all works. If I remember correctly, the promoters have the venue already lined up with the deal, so even before tickets are on sale or announced, everything is set, contracts signed. So to change the venue, even if it is 30% capacity will never happen.

However, I do know if all venue sales are not was expected, they may cancel a date or even the tour. Doubt that would happen with Stevie though.

I'm really bummed after reading this interview.

She runs the casino circuit every other year to rake in the cash and now she is acting like she cant get booked to play? When she plays Philly she is usually at the Tweeter in Camden which holds 7,000 I think, plus the lawn. I saw her in 2007 when she was promoting the Greatest Hits cd with Chris Isaak. I dont know if it was soldout, but it looked full to me. I was suprised because tickets were expensive, especially in this economy, and she didnt even have a new album out. Surely she could fill a venue that size again..I dont understand. Why cant she play the same size venues as she did during the TISL tour?

This just sounds to me like the venue owners are waiting to see how well the album does out of the gate.

This type of conversation came up over at the Heart fan website and Heart's management basically said that the venue owners offer to book the bands, not the other way around. In other words, Heart doesn't contact arenas/sheds/whatever saying "we'd like to play here" but instead the venues decide and then extend the offer to the band to play there.

I don't know if that's just how it works for Heart or if that's commonplace. So maybe that's what Nicks is talking about here....waiting to get the invitations to perform from the venue owners.

i hate the gloves though. its almost summer and it looks odd to see her wearing those now when its warmer out.

Most people over 55 are always cold, even when it's 90 degrees outside, with 100% humidity. Probably why she's sitting next to the fireplace when it's like 80 degrees outside where she lives. :D

I think she's always done that. There are old quotes about how she'll crank up her air conditioning to full blast to keep the fireplace running all through a SoCal summer.
Appalling waste of energy, but it's so Stevie.

Did it ever occur to you guys that Stevie keeps mentioning how much she loved making this album? Sound to me like she really wants to get back to the studio. That's a good idea. Catch lightening in a bottle. :)

If she wants to get back in the studio, she could have just said that rather than go into a whole digression of why she might not tour to support this album.

I, for one, will be absolutely heartbroken if she doesn't tour to support the album...I was really looking forward to hearing the new music live. :(

I am just not understanding this at all...like Perez said...YOU ARE STEVIE NICKS. But, if touring with this album really was that important to her like making the album, she would put her foot down and tour in some degree.

(Crossing fingers The Borgata gets rescheduled...:( )

After some thought, I'd almost prefer that Stevie not tour. When you look at her touring schedule for the past decade, it seems like she's toured non-stop. As much as she finds inspiration while on the road, I'd prefer another album in 2012.

Then she can launch her "End of the World" tour.

Ditto. I would love to have 2 albums in 2 yrs. Can you imagine ?? I would be over the moon not to have to wait another 10 yrs. ! I just can't see her NOT touring for this cd though. As good as another album sounds, reality is she'll prob tour !

Something is going with her. I think she really likes Dave a lot as a producer. She has searched for years after Jimmy left. I think she is like Eureka.

Perez Hilton: Are you on his record?

Stevie Nicks: No. But that was before we had our amazing peace you know. But it's my favorite thing he's ever done. I think it's brilliant."

So maybe the Webster Hall concert was going to be the one show for the album and she was /is going to do alot of press and tv for IYD. I didn't buy tickets for the NY show but if she reschedules, maybe I should try to go. It may be the only chance to see her sing any songs from this album.

We don't want that!!

But, if she's able to tour every summer (almost) why wouldn't this be the same? She wasn't promoting an album so I don't get why it depends on if the album sales or not!.

At the start of November in Melbourne Cup.. I'm gonna say she's coming for that.

And she is right, they do very well here and don't need a record at all

As for the U.S please, you guys get to see her constantly, whereas I haven't seen Stevie solo - ever!
In saying that I feel you guys are scaring yourself into thinking she's not going to tour the U.S - she's just being coy, probably trying to entice bigger offers?? Who knows but As Perez and others have said.. She is Stevie Nicks.. and she will tour the U.S especially if she will Australia.

grr this interview annoyed me?!!! stevie needs to do a solo tour stat! i have no idea why she is worried about touring. she doesnt need to do the huge sheds anymore. she should be thinking about playing places that hold between 5,000-10,000 seats. ugh! i want to hear stevie singing annabel lee or moonlight this summer. why stevie why?! i want her cd to go to #1 and sell millions but thats just not going to happen.
i do like that she likes katy perry though. i just got into her and have been obsessed with ET too.

I have a place right here in Wallingford she can perform. It's called Toyota Presents the Oakdale Theatre .A nice small venue.

P'S. thanks for the interview.

Stevie has resorted to using Lindsey's quotes but she just can't seem to piece it together - "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts" - that was one hysterical moment. I wonder if she even knows why that's sticking in her head.

Amazing Peace. That's kind of amusing.

No fights they've had in the last few years have leaked out and reached the public surface. After the SYW tour, dissension was obvious. This time around, everyone has been so diplomatic it's almost disconcerting.

Although, since Lindsey said that he thought he'd be doing something else right now, other than making a solo album, I gather that they might have disagreed on the timing of the next FM project. Michele

Agreed - it's great news for us! It will be my first Stevie solo show too and I can't wait. It's a little creepy actually because I was thinking about her touring in November this afternoon - I have to go to Perth for work in late November and I was thinking 'What's the bet she comes then and I manage to miss her?' But I think you're right - she won't want to miss the Melbourne Cup! (Even though that old nag of hers doesn't seem to be much chop.)

And my fingers and toes are crossed for you folks in the UK and Europe (and the US too - but I would be *extremely* surprised if that didn't happen).

A couple of things don't make sense in this interview: the thing about how the sales of the new album will determine if she tours this summer, which has been discusses ad nauseum on this board. As someone pointed out, she's toured with greatest hits albums (Crystal Visions), etc. so her logic about whether or not the new album sells and how that will influence touring doesn't make any sense. Maybe she doesn't want to tour, maybe she's tired of it right now (due to the tour w/Rod) and wants to do other things? I also wondered if maybe the Rod tour was a barometer for the public's demand of seeing her live. Does anyone know how successful the tour was? Maybe she was waiting to see how that would go off to determine whether or not she wanted to tour solo.

Another thing that doesn't make sense: the comment about how she didn't put out a solo record 5 or more years ago because of the state of the music industry (piracy, etc.) and now things are better, because, as Stevie says, "the situation has been fixed." As far as I can tell, piracy is still going strong and not much has changed with regard to illegal downloading--the sitch has most assuredly NOT been fixed and probably never will be. I thought that excuse was REALLY thin. There's got to be another reason why this album was so delayed.

agreed the wavy hair makes her look so much younger. i have been trying to figure out how to get those waves in my hair for years. its pretty long now but when i curl it with a curling iron it never looks like that!
i hate the gloves though. its almost summer and it looks odd to see her wearing those now when its warmer out.

I will tell you:

Shower before bed.
Braid 6 equal sections of hair all the way around your head.
Go to sleep.
Wake up and take out braids.
Then dont curl your hair, instead wrap sections of your hair around your curling iron.
Hairspray.

Let me know how it turns out for you!

I was thinking that this morning. It would be incredible to hear live.

I recently saw an Australian band, The Whitlams, play a show with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. I spent a great portion of the show thinking, "Everything sounds better with strings." Of course, it was held in a grand old theatre and I felt compelled to sit down, clap politely and try to appear cultured. I would like a bit more freedom at a Stevie gig - perhaps something of a compromise like the MSO concert: getting the orchestra in but still playing a regular rocking concert venue.
