View Full Version : So what do we want to see Stevie do next?

For those who have listened to In Your Dreams a few times and have had a chance to start absorbing it, there's no doubt the album was quite a departure from any album she's made in decades (solo or Fleetwood Mac).
So the question is, what type of an album would you like to see Stevie make next? I have two in mind:
1) I'd actually love a full on folk album... perhaps make it a Buckingham Nicks/Fleetwood Mac effort if that'd work best. Soldier's Angel struck me as very much being nouveau folk. It kind of rang home how really effective Stevie could be at writing/singing a much more stripped down type of album.
2) Now for the other end of the spectrum. From the little taste we got on Everybody Loves You, I'd actually like to see Stevie do a full on electronica album. This is something I've been secretly yearning for ever since I heard the Planets Of The Universe remixes 10 years ago :). I think Stevie's ethereal lyrics would make for some incredible trance type music.

Still trying to enjoy the latest but...would love an autobio or a book of poems... and as far as music? Well...a stripped down/acoustic cd would be nice~I do love the lady's demos:)

But seriously, I'd love a book before she forgets more important details. Albumwise since country music is my thing, I'd love for her to do that. I'd also love an album of demos.

1) I think Stevie's mature voice shines in rockabilly songs. I still want a full version of Elvis's "Wear My Ring". Plus it would be nice for her finally to duet with Chris Isaak on that kind of song on an actual Stevie album. I think they sounded great together on his show ("Solitary Man", "Red River Valley", "It's Late").
2) I still feel cheated out of the "Mirror, Mirror" album that never was. I'd love to get those songs or even new ones - the dark/mystical sounding ones - on a full album. Sort of a "Moonlight" sound for a full album, with Dave's help. Maybe even a new, updated version of "Battle of the Dragon" in there, too.
3) Record & tour with Christine. Hell, Stevie, just tell her that she can bring her dogs on the road with yours.

I'd love to see Stevie reteam with Lindsey, Mick and John; employ Dave as a producer, and make a kick-ass Fleetwood Mac album; which it truly would be if Dave gets Lindsey half as well as he gets Stevie. Try to get Christine back into the studio only, she doesn't need to tour, and they should realise this. I keep thinking how much better (the already brilliant) Soldier's Angel would be if Christine was on harmonies too - the Fleetwood Mac song that never was.

Someone (in a review) said this album was very romantic... and I think it is. It's a very sweet record too. I think it would be great for her to tour a bit for it, and then get back with Lindsey and do a Buckingham Nicks project. It would really be something special to see 'em make some new music together... as well as re-release the old BN album.

I don't think the problem is Stevie. It seems like she always has to talk Lindsey into stuff. She likes to keep busy. Lindsey thinks too much. Sometimes you just gotta do.

Yeah, i mean, it's just what I'd like to see. I really think they could make themselves relevant if they did a new record, a small intimate tour, and re-release the old album. I certainly don't expect it to happen, though. :(

I want a Buckingham/Nicks album too. I do not, however, want anymore Fleetwood Mac tours. They have toured to death and it takes too long to recover from them and they are out of time.

I don't mind Fleetwood Mac touring; better to have some Mac than no Mac... but it does "reek" of nostalgia and money-grubbing when they aren't promoting something. If they tour again, they should be touring behind a record or a boxed set, etc.

A new BN album would be sweet. I'm kinda "eh" about FM, but BN I'd be all over. I'd love for her to go through her vault stuff and do a whole album of properly recorded versions of some of the old demos. Re-mastered versions of her solo albums (or at least just Bella Donna & The Wild Heart) with bonus tracks are desperately needed as well.
3) Record & tour with Christine. Hell, Stevie, just tell her that she can bring her dogs on the road with yours.
It's really too bad we didn't get more duets out of them when they were both in FM. I was listening to the re-mastered Rumours bonus disc yesterday and hadn't realized that the outtake version of Oh Daddy features Stevie so prominently. That and Straight Back are pretty much all the Stevie/Christine "duetting" that I'm aware of.

do a more country/Blue Grass influenced album, Maybe work with Dolly Parton to developed it ( listen to her version of Stairway to Heaven, before you Judge!)
to evolve and try something new like Cyndi Lauper has standard , the blues , Appalachian folk ,and not to be held back by people who have no creativity ,and are just looking out for the money .

The first thing she should relax .I always said she should do a country cd.she will beat the crap out of these new country artists on the charts.Wow a bluegrass cd.she could record with Alison Krauss.I love Dolly.she 's back on tour. Also Stevie is a big Dolly fan too.

another solo album or a BN album

I'd like Stevie to tour, and then immediately start recording another solo album. Just a regular album, without any gimmicks like 'country' or 'standards'.
While that's going on, I'd like Stevie to work with whoever necessary to get her solo work remastered and re-released with bonus tracks. I'd actually like her to take what she can and re-create what Mirror Mirror might have been, and release it as a companion disc to the remastered Rock A Little. I know, pure fantasy but hey, I can dream!
After that, I would be ok with a new Fleetwood Mac album, but ideally they would record it in 3 months and release it 8 weeks later - instead of taking 3 years as they are fond of doing - 1 to talk about it, 1 to record it, and another 1 to fight over the mixing, sequencing, packaging, etc... only to end up with a product that is overthought and too highly polished.

I would love for her and Lindsey to work as closely together on a new FM album as she has with Dave on IYD, but I'm not sure that's possible for them.
A new FM album with Dave Stewart & Lindsey as co-producers would be my second choice.

Well you know Buckingham is doing the whole "stripped down" thing of late... It'd be great for Stevie and Lindsey to just sit down and sing together and do some duets. Buckingham Nicks redux, i say!!

I don't think they were gimmicks. They let the songs dictate the way the album went. I don't understand why people want a new Fleetwood Mac album. Fleetwood Mac is essentially BN now. Without Chris, it's over.
Stevie should do a dubstep album.

Of course I'd love another solo album but while she's basking in the glory of IYD I think it would be really cool if she did a tribute album and covered songs of some of the great female voices like Aretha, Janis, and Nancy Wilson (These Dreams?). Of course I always prefer original music but just to mix things up a bit.

I would love Stevie to do a major World Tour with In Your Dreams and after the tour probably take a few months to relax and refresh, I would love to see one more Fleetwood Mac album and hopefully would love to also have Christine McVie on the new album and tour but we probably know that wont happen with Chris. Buckingham/Nicks would be awesome they could do a new buckingham/nicks cd with all new material like Stevie did with Dave Stewart with a bonus disc of the original buckingham/nicks that would be awesome.

I highly doubt Stevie will ever "retire" or stop working being the type of person she is and I would never want that but on a personal level I would love to see her take some time for herself and relish in the whole experience of IYD. This is in no way saying I want her to hang up her boots, nothing of the sort. Perhaps just jet off to Hawaii with dear friends and/or possibly a male companion (if that's her heart's desire) and do some true reflecting on this amazing life she's been living. Do some art, write poems, learn a new craft, spread magical fairy dust all over the universe...those types of things.
*Of course this is all after she does a huge solo/press tour in support of IYD.

That's what I was thinking! Hearing/seeing what Dave did to reinvigorate Stevie and her music, it would be amazing if he did the same for Fleetwood Mac. We know that Lindsey seems open to working with an outside producer, but there are a lot of sensitivities there, considering that Lindsey has some control issues.
I hope whatever happens, that the pace of projects increases significantly in the coming years. They are all getting long in the tooth. In decades past, it was standard practice to put out every year, otherwise your career was in peril because you were easily fogotten. Since the nineties, Fleetwood Mac and Stevie have cruised on compilation albums, with a serious lull in new material over a vast amount of time. (At least Lindsey realized that and stepped up with enough new solo albums that almost match Stevie's output).
Even if it isn't new material, they have alot to mine:
Buckingham Nicks album
Fleetwood Mac -- rarities/b-sides, numerous live performances for CD and DVD
Stevie Nicks - her vast "vault"

ummmm, I don't think Stevie really listens to Lindsay's advice that much. She seems to do whatever Dave wants. Lindsey can produce her better than anyone, but there is a wall between them and it hurts the music. Say You Will is a prime example of that.
mylittledemon
05-03-2011, 06:41 PM
Say You Will is more of an example of how not to make a record (ie. Lindsey taking a solo album and working on that material for months before Stevie came into the studio)... I think the idea of Say You Will was great, it was the finished product that didn't deliver. That said, I dig the record and am glad they made it.

I don't want another Mac CD unless Christine is part of the mix. She doesn't have to tour. In fact, let the band do an extended Vegas stint (with Chris) and fans will flock to them!
As for Stevie, I'd rather see her write a book or venture into other areas of the arts. I love the new CD, so if it's her last one, I'm cool with it.

I like SYW and i would never say i wasn't glad they did it. After listening to IYD however, i understand what Stevie means by wanting Dave to always produce. No tension, no fights, no hurt feelings, just great music. Basically a drama-free experience. I don't think she has ever experienced that with FM. Now, there's no going back in her mind. I don't know if LB would be willing to relinquish control like that . I love LB and i am NOT trying to disrespect him in any way. I just don't know how well LB and DS would /could work together ?

That's hilarious! I'm just saying that's what I would like to hear, I KNOW she would never do it, she is too creative and has too many of her own, original songs. But if she ever needs $$$ then that's the way to go...Rod has hit pay dirt with those albums.

BN being the preferred option just because well, the Mac is practically BN anyway but I feel like they would feel like they had more freedom as BN...

Amen. After the Klonopin detox she told the press that the days of 3 or 4 years between new albums were now over. At the time that made me happy - I didn't know that she would be stretching the gap to 10 years.

I'm also on a FM or Buckingham Nicks new album bandwagon. But would Lindsey and Stevie be capable to work together on a new album staying alive both? Destiny Rules showed some big moments of armed truce like Everybody finds out mixing war.

The steam hasn't yet stopped coming off the new release.
It took her a decade to even begin a new album. She's 62, soon to be 63. We don't live forever, not even Stevie Nicks.
In a perfect world, she would have filled all those in-between years with an album of standards (including her stunning version of "At Last," her duet album with Tom Petty, her duet album with Don Henley, Buckingham Nicks II and III and maybe even IV, and then maybe even two or three more really good Fleetwood Mac records (especially before Christine retired).
But in the reality we live in, all of those people lived hard fast complicated lives and those records did not happen.
We're lucky to have what we've got. Let it be.

Surprised people want her to do standards. Isn't that what we all gave Rod cr*p for?
And to be honest, although I think her voice sounds great on IYD, her voice is a lot less impressive to me than her writing is. Seeing the lyrics she's still capable of has left me anxious to her more.
I hope we get a Fleetwood Mac album. BN would also be fine by me, but I can't imagine a reason Lindsey and Stevie would do that--FM would bring in more money and offer a better buffer. And Kristin would probably prefer they don't spend a year in Wales in a castle built for two.

Please, please, an acoustical abum...i'd love to "hear" stevie without all the other production...I guess that's why I love For What It's Worth, That's Alright, Say Goodbye(live with Lindsey), Twisted(demo), Spinning Wheels, Landslide, etc. ...if she and Lindsey could do it together that would be great but I'd love tohear her turn down the volume and turn up the folk/country...:blob1:

I wasn't aware that we ALL gave Rod cr*p for doing standards.
I'm not necessarily asking for an album of standards from Stevie, but given her performances on At Last, Call on Me for Magic, and a few other little ditties (It's Late, Ring Around My Neck, etc.), it did seem like it might be a nice idea at the time, at least as a one-off kind of thing.
