The iTunes store just notified me via email my pre-order was ready, which is a iTunes LP. The artwork is nice and has a few more photos not in the CD packaging and...a section where she writes about what each song means. Very nice!

Secret Love
Written in 1976, 35 years ago, Life was moving and fast. We were young and beautiful and wild. Love was just "a kiss away." I'm not truly sure who it was about, but I put it away ~ a secret ~ never to be told...
For What It's Worth
Sometimes, in your darkest hour, an angel comes along and lifts you up...Keeps your head above water. A selfless act of love that saves your soul...for what it's worth.
In Your Dreams
A song about the time right after 9-11. A person who promised me that he would get me through every show ~ Even though I was terrified. We did not go home and hide ~ We stayed on the road and did our best to lift people's spirits.
Wide Sargasso Sea
The story of the woman we first come across in Jane Eyre. The first wife of Mr. Rochester. From a novel written in 1966, and a movie made in 1993. It tells the story of Antoinette ~ the beautiful, titled woman from Jamaica, who enchants him with her beauty ~ But goes completely mad when he drags her away from her island back to England.
New Orleans
Written five days after Katrina hit. An eloquent precious embattled little boy broke my heart with his poignant words ~ "Look around us ~ This is a shame ~ Somebody needs to come and help us...I wrote the poem for him. He was eight years old.
Moonlight
Written about an essay I wrote in Melbourne Australia discussing the stories of Beauty and the Beast, New Moon ~ The story of Bella and Edward and The Mabinogion ~ The stories of Rhiannon and Pwyll and Their Gang of Gods and Goddesses. The main theme is the love stories between monsters, Gods and humans...But I dedicate it to Edward and Bella.
Annabel Lee
When I was 17, it was a very good year ~ I met Lindsey and I read some of the poetry of Edgar Allen Poe. Annabel Lee was my favorite. I picked up my guitar with the open book in front of me ~ And 10 minutes later I went and played it for my Mom. It was never recorded ~ It just lived in my heart until the mid-nineties when I made a piano demo of it in Phoenix ~ Finally she has come to life.
Solider's Angel
From a poem written after my second visit to Walter Reed and Bethesda Hospitals. I printed the poem, all verses of it and started to give it out to the soldiers and their families every time I visited. I always told them that someday it would be a song. But I could never write a chorus ~ Those few lines eluded me. When I was in London with Fleetwood Mac in November 2009, an extremely tragic incident in Iraq concerning seven English soldiers caused a four-page journal entry where I pulled the four-line chorus, I asked Lindsey to help me record it ~ Which brought Buckingham/Nicks back to life on this, my most revered song.
Everybody Loves You
This is Dave's "Ode to Being A Duo." A duo is a different breed of cat. Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox. Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham. Only we four really understood this song. Fall in love with a person for who they are. Then fall in love with them again ~ For what they do. Rare...
Ghosts Are Gone
Sometimes relationships end with one thought..."I'm Done." All memories, bad and good, wiped out, never to come again ~ The ghosts are gone...
You May Be The One
This is about the one in all our lives that got away. Sometimes destiny comes into play when we least expect it ~ And changes everything.
Italian Summer
Written at The Palazzo Sasso Hotel on September 20, 2009 in Room 102. My friends and I arrived on a Sunday afternoon to be told that a great storied fireworks display would be held that night (not to be missed, the concierge said) if the great storm that was starting, let up. It didn't ~ But the fireworks went on anyway through the glorious wind and rain. Stole my heart. "Oh it's so romantic ~ Hey it's soulful ~ The rain falls down ~ And the thunder rolls...
Cheaper Than Free
At the end of 2009, my producer, Dave Stewart, was planning on escaping for a week to Nashville to make an album. Our friend Reese Witherspoon had come to the studio to listen and she offered up her condo in Nashville to Dave. I said ~ "Great! That would be cheap!" and Reese said ~ "What's cheaper than free?" So, when Dave got to Nashville he called and said, "Did you write Cheaper Than Free yet?" I said, "Only 6 lines, but if you want it, give me an hour, I'll finish it and send it back to you.: So I took a half hour, wrote it, and sent it back. Two hours later he sent me the track with a great lead vocal. When he returned, I put my harmony on it and it was done. Not free ~ but pretty cheap. That's how David and I work. Effortless...
That's it! Spoilers over. Hope this helps!

A song about the time right after 9-11. A person who promised me that he would get me through every show ~ Even though I was terrified. We did not go home and hide ~ We stayed on the road and did our best to lift people's spirits.
That adds meaning to the line "I'm just at the other end of your night" (i.e., "I'm here for you after the show").

It's neat she's still referring Moonlight to Rhiannon - being as it was one of the "Rhiannon songs".! Can't wait to hear it!!!!!!!!

Top 10. This is so exciting--it'd been so low on iTunes I'd just sort of accepted that people only wanted hard copies of Stevie (IE only the "old folks" were buying).

#7 on overall albums now! :blob1:
I may not have listened to the album yet in my devastated state. But, my music biz geek self is tracking the figures.
Oh and ps I used to intern for Jason Aldean's label so I'm partial to him, but I don't mind our Queen kicking his butt. She's passing everyone up on that chart. :)

thanks for typing up the song linear notes Richard..
spoiler..
some different pictures featured.. I like the picture with Stevie (and her two daughters.. hee hee) in their flowing skirts with Dave jumping into the room from the window. Note how each of the ladies skirts match (kind of) their hair.. nice early morning surprise..
I loved seeing the album in the top ten on itunes.. It just might make it to #1 when more fans wake up and buy it..

Holy Hell, I'll be honest, I never expected Stevie to do so well on iTunes. Considering how well she's doing on Amazon and other online retailers, could she go all the way and grab a #1 album? That would be a huge achievement!

Oh God I splurged and bought the itunes one too and what they did with the photos and everything is top-notch. Photos are awesome and so is the set up where u can click on songs.
It's interesting to see how people are rating the individual tracks on iTunes. All my fav tracks are the very lowest rated: Wide Sargasso Sea, Ghosts Are Gone, Soldier's Angel. BOO!
Louie, I like those songs, along with the title track, the least in this order:
1) Wide Sargasso Sea: there is absolutely nothing redeeming about this song in my opinion - tragic lyrics, no discernible melody, poor vocals, leaden instrumentation - simply awful! Dave needs to share the blame for this atrocity. 1/10
2) Soldier's Angel: sonically great - the production is a marvel with Lindsey's superb lead guitar and vocal harmonising, but Stevie's performance is not subtle enough and the lyrics are among her very worst (right down there with "chimpanzee"!). 6/10
3) In Your Dreams: not bad, but gimmicky production values and a piss poor vocal from Stevie leave me cold. 6.5/10
4) Ghosts Are Gone: I do quite like this, but was expecting so much more and ultimately just feel underwhelmed by it. The lyrics are passable, but could have have been so much better and my overall impression is that it's a kind of aimless mess (needs at least a minute chopped). Stevie's vocals are also a little rough, but not in a good way. That said, I would retain this along with the other nine tracks and you have a splendid album. 7/10
However, the other three definitely need to go!!
PS The album should have been titled "The Ghosts Are Gone" - I thought this from the moment I read the title last year and listening to the album just reaffirms this.

My take is entirely different:
1. Wide Sargasso Sea - has a haunting, eerie opening. Love the tonal keyboard work. The guitar licks are awesome, exactly what the song needs. The lyrics and the vocal work add to the feeling of this eerie rocker. 10/10
2. Soldier's Angel - I love how solemn this track is. I really can't fathom Phil's assertion that these are horrible lyrics. On the contrary, they're quite moving and the repeated use of "soldier's angel (mother) (girl) (etc)" is very effective. The blend of Nicks/Buckingham's voices is better than anything on Say You Will. 9/10
3. In Your Dreams - is very bouncy, catchy and has some great lyrics: "I'm just at the other end of your night, I'm always in and out of your life". There's nothing gimmicky about the production, and Nicks' vocals sound perfectly fine to me. 9.5/10
4. Ghosts Are Gone - While being my least favorite track on the album, it's still a very good song. The lyrics are great, the vocal delivery with the extended notes makes the song interesting. The rock guitar is a little too bluesy or something for me, but understanding that this was Nicks' "Canned Heat song" I realize that that's the sound she was going for. It may not be my taste, but I still think its well-done. 8.5/10

I agree with you on Wide Sargasso Sea. The unconventional song structure is part of what makes it so appealing. A song doesn't have to follow the verse-verse-chorus-verse-bridge-chorus, and this shows that not following that formula can have great results. The writing style reminds me of Neko Case, who has been praised over and over by critics for not using the standard pop formula in her songwriting.
In a small way, I agree with Phil on In Your Dreams, but only the "gimmicky" part. There is a little bit of contrived pop-hit going on here. The song is very reminiscent of 'come-back' songs by other artists, like Boots of Chinese Plastic by the Pretenders. Given this, it's sort of syrprising that this wasn't the lead single, although maybe that was the too-obvious choice (one I'm glad wasn't made).
Soldier's Angel...just doesn't do it for me. Nearly every album has a stinker, and this one is obvious.

.
But that's where you're wrong. It's NOT obvious, because when you look at how people are rating the songs this isn't a case where nearly everyone is saying '"Soldier's Angel", ugh.' That makes it simply your opinion. If a majority of people are saying something is bad then its more logical to assert that objectively maybe it is, but the only track on this album that's come close to that is "Cheaper Than Free" (and even in that case, there have been many people who rate it somewhere around the middle of the album and a few who rate it highly).

I'm really trying to like it, which might be part of the problem.
In sum:
Like the lyrics - but she says "soldier" too often.
Love the music
Love the vocal by Stevie - but not Lindsey's harmonies.
Considering it's my least favorite on the album, and yet giving a thumbs-up to the lyrics, music and vocal, I'd probably rate it about a C+ overall.

You like what you like. Lots of reviews mention Annabelle Lee as their favorite. I like the song ok, but its probably my least favorite. Different strokes for different folks. I just don't like some of the reviewers who can't get over Fleetwood Mac or Buckinham/Nicks. This is her solo stuff.

You have to download and install the iTunes software; create an account with a credit card and then you can buy from their online store. The songs are stored in your iTunes program, like a jukebox. No iPod is required unless you want the songs to be portable - but you can burn CDs and make playlists, and even rip your existing CD collection into iTunes to create a library of all your music on your computer.

I'm so pissed. I didn't get the deluxe edition because my iPod is practically filled to capacity so I didn't really need the two videos. But I didn't realize the booklet and liner notes weren't in the regular edition. I wouldn't have minded paying the extra $3 just for that. Love the vocal by Stevie - but not Lindsey's harmonies.
Considering it's my least favorite on the album, and yet giving a thumbs-up to the lyrics, music and vocal, I'd probably rate it about a C+ overall.
My sentiments EXACTLY. I like individial parts, but as a whole it just doesnt do it for me.
I tried counting how many times she said "soldier" and I got to 25 and stopped counting!

i have never even been to the itunes website. do you have to have an ipod for it? i'm not very up on new technology. didn't think stevie liked it either, yet sounds like the best perks came with this online itunes version.
i hope the different pictures will eventually get posted online.
thanks so much for posting the notes she made about each song.
I'm not an itunes user either, so I don't know what I'm really missing.
It's not a matter of Stevie not liking itunes -- she's just not interested/up on the technology. But she has a marketing team that is!

Holy crap. I forgot this was today and I happened to see it today. So I went to my computer, and sure enough everything was already downloaded. A nice surprise! First listen through, right now!

I have no Stevie Nicks banner showcased on mine at all.
Oh...you know I think it only is now featured under the "Music" tab in iTunes.
I've been listening to the album for more than a week now and certain songs are taking shape in ways I wasn't expecting - for instance, "Wide Sargasso Sea" (which remains my least favourite) is revealing a little more substance and as a groove, I can now tolerate it.
Stevie's vocal on "Soldier's Angel" is more to my liking now, but I still can't get past the outlandishly patriotic sentiment of the utterly prosaic lyrics - they just make me cringe and actually play into the perceptions some have of her as being obtuse in the extreme. Such a shame because Lindsey's contributions to this track are sublime. As stated previously, I really love the production of this track, but believe it falls short in terms of what should have been a more meaningful, engaging and less literal lyric. Silly Stevie!!
"In Your Dreams" has also grown on me, but I do think it seems a little contrived, particularly in terms of attempting to approximate the sound of Taylor Swift. It actually also sounds strangely like The Travelling Wilburys on speed. Less prominent guitar, some tinkly piano and a little "sparkledust" could really transform this - maybe a single remix might attend to matters?
"The Ghosts Are Gone" is entrenching itself rather nicely, but I still think it's lacking something and of course, is at least a minute too long. I love epic songs, but this just seems to fall short of the mark. Both "Moonlight" and "Annabel Lee" are epic tracks that do not outstay their welcome, rather I wish they would both continue past their running times. I also would like "Everybody Loves You" to run for another minute or so with just the orchestral arrangement - how gorgeous would that be?
PS "New Orleans" is becoming more enchanting with each listen - I was wary of this song before hearing it, but it's charming the knickers off me...

ya. but i wish stevie would law down the law and tell them they need to make her best package available to ALL her fans, even those not into technology so much, like she herself.
but she maybe doesn't have much say in it. i am sure the business people wanted to do something to make it sell big on itunes, possibly even to show stevie how well it can do on itunes. but you'd think they'd make more money and more sales if they also did the extra photos and liner notes in a cd edition. if that was offered in the WB pre-sale, would have bought it and paid extra for it. but just the litho, since it was the same exact pic as the cd cover, it didn't tempt me at all. maybe if it was one of the other pics of stevie with the horse, and/or had all 25 pics that they say itunes has. now that would have been a very cool special edition (since it had my heart as well).

Does anyone have, or know how to get photo files of the extra pix on the iTunes deluxe version? I can't figure out how to save those pix or copy them. If anyone knows could you please post them or tell me how to save them? I'm dying to have that second picture of her with the horse!
Thanks!

I already have bought it; how else would I know what pictures are on there?
I'm asking how to get jpeg files of the pix that aren't in the CD booklet.

do you know how to take a screenshot of your computer screen? if so, just bring it up on iTunes, take a screenshot and then crop the pic. If you have a photo editing program, you can then turn the file into a jpeg
