View Full Version : Am I missing something...My Heart?

I've seen that the song My Heart is being mentioned in some threads. Was this song re-recorded for the album? Is it a bonus track or b-side? I'm hoping for some extra songs (as if the album itself isn't enough!).

I love the song and found it inexclipable that it was cut from Trouble in Shangrila. I thought it was so well produced and had so much energy to it. I can't imagine a version that would top it.

Yes. It's a bonus track. It will appear on the WB's deluxe edition and the Barnes and Noble edition.

It's also a bonus track on the UK edition

Has anyone posted as to whether or not this is re-recorded or just the same version from TISL?

Hmmm. that makes me wanna go check my mailbox now... Is My Heart better? Or worse? And does she sound as nasally as the demo version?

One thing for certain, I love the placement of it: between Annabel Lee and Soldier's Angel.
It's also slightly shorter in length and it seems a beat faster than the TISL version.

The verses are different. The TISL second verse is the IYD first verse (with some minor lyric changes) and the TISL first verse is the IYD second verse. "Shadows...." from TISL is gone as is "Windows...."
Musically it's not much different, it's different, but not so much that you wouldn't recognize it. It has a mandolin break in the middle now.
It's funny, it's the same but totally different!!

Wow! Exciting!

So, in other words, I just have to wait and hear it!

I'm super excited to hear this song, I've always adored the demo.

I'm interested to see if it the CD still flows as nicely with My Heart in the middle. Funny, I've just listened to Every Day from TISL, and it occurred to me that My Heart would have sounded fantastic following that song.

I'm sure it will end up being a great song since it's with Mike Campbell. Was he involved with the demo?

Why are people calling it a demo? The original version is a fully realized and recorded song that was slated to be on Trouble in Shangrila. It's more acurate to call it an outtake.

Regardless, I am happy that it will see the light of day. Can't wait to hear the new version. I bet it will be amazing, like the rest of the album.

Whatever it was, her voice was bad on it. I actually liked the drama to the song, however, I couldn't listen to it. She sounded HORRIBLE!!!!!! I'm hoping that she sounds a lot better on this new recording.

I'm thinking that the album was originally intended to have 14 songs, with "My Heart" sequenced in as the 8th track, but due to the length of the album, Reprise probably had them take out a track for the official release.

Because originally, all of the articles and info that was coming out about the album in 2010 said it would have 14 tracks. So to me, that is why it is now a bonus track.

I believe also that the song was always intended to be included (based on the fact that we had heard there were to be 14 tracks, and the fact that is placed in the middle and not tacked on at the end like most bonus tracks). But I don't think time had anything to do with it, I think the label simply wanted a bonus track for an extra perk. Stevie picked the one song she felt could be removed.
Last year Heart included a song called "In The Cool" as a bonus to their "Red Velvet Car" album, but prior to the album's release, they had been doing the song in concert. I think that was the same deal, it was always intended to be included, but became a bonus to entice buyers (in this case to get the "Target" edition).

Based on just the clip, it sounds better than the TISL version, but still weaker than anything on IYD, at least vocally. Maybe the rest of the song will prove me wrong.

I like this vocal better than the TISL version.

Yeah, I already bought 3 copies of the album this morning and none of them had this track. Is there anywhere that I can just download the one song, like iTunes, Amazon, something like that? Quickly running out of funds and can't go buy another physical disc. LOL

Barnes and Noble has physical copies in the US. I just checked iTunes in the US and it does not show up even in the Deluxe

the track is only available from Barnes and Noble, or on the import version, or if you ordered it from Warner Bros.

I JUST came on, because my CD came and there is no My Heart mentioned. I thought they sent me the wrong one (My litho did not come either, but it says on the shipping label that this is one of 2 packages) THANK YOU! : ) After seeing your post, i realized I only looked at the last song...sure enough, snugly between Annabel Lee and Soldier's Angel sits My Heart

I must be in the minority here, I don't like the IYD version at all. I loved the TISL version. Oh well. To each their own! ;) But I did think it was neat that they placed this song conceptually where it should have gone had it been included on the wide-release CD. Usually these bonus tracks are just stuck on the end as an after-thought. So points for that but still would rather here TISL version.

When I play the CD using my computer at work, Windows Media Player lists My Heart, but it plays Soldier's Angel and all the songs after that are messed up/one off from what the title says. When I play the CD using my laptop at home, iTunes doesn't list My Heart and the titles are accurate to what plays. Hmmm... funny little glitchie thing.

I like this version, btw, but I LOVE the TISL version... Stevie's voice sounds great in both, but the urgency is more apparent in the original version - it sort of reminds me of my favorite B-side, "One More Big Time RNR Star"

I'm with you, this new version is nothing compared to the TISL version. I don't like the reversed order of the verses. I don't feel the heartfelt delivery that was so apparent in the TISL version, and that long beautiful note she sings ..... where is it? It's not here now. I'm greatly disappointed with this version. That's not to say there are not great songs on IYD, there certainly is but, I can't listen to the new My Heart. It's not My Heart for me.

so is it worth buying the CD with My Heart included in it or should I just get the one with the 13 songs? In other words, do you like or dislike My Heart?

I have to agree 100% with you. Aside from using a jewel case to package this disc (to me, they cheapen the whole appearance - when the Crystal Visions packaging was so nice and hopeful of how she'd treat future releases) my only other immeidate criticism is 'My Heart' on this disc. I've always loved the melody in the verses that we've known since TISL - but that melody is completely gone now. I always thought it was a nice transition from the full-on chorus then it suddenly all pulls back to the next verse stripping away much of the layering and we're left with her voice and maybe a guitar.

Anyway, my two cents.
