Well I just noticed that the Beastie Boys is outselling Stevie on Amazon now. Of course, their CD is only $9.99. Her is 11.88. Also, Fleet Foxes has been outselling Stevie since the start, but their album is only $8.99. What gives? I hope they take into considering heavily discounted CDs when they tally their weekly numbers.

At least Stevie tends to stay true to her roots most of the time. But w/ this album
(from what we've heard) It seems she may be attempting to intentionally cross most if not all genres she can. For some reason I bet sequencing may have been more difficult this time around. I would totally flip if they shocked us all and we have a death Metal Stevie song

Well I don't know much about Fleet Foxes, but perhaps one of the reasons Beastie Boys is outselling her is because they are, perhaps, more popular than her?

They weren't outselling her before. They just sorta came out of nowhere with a 9.99 price and now they are ahead. They were way down the list.

The Beastie Boys did just have a new music video debut prominently on MTV.com... all of my DeLorean message board has been aflutter about it since there's a DeLorean in the video. There's something to be said for smart and effective promotion. Something Stevie's not had in her solo career since the 1980s.

Well the Glee thing, Oprah, tying a song into Moonlight and touring with Rod Stewart seems pretty smart. However, doubt her record company had anything to do with that. They better have a commerical for her new album on Glee and Dancing with the Stars. It would be mighty stupid if they didn't.
the beastie boys new album is also featured at the top of itunes, and their preorder sets at #22. Stevie is not even in the top 200, which is sad.

I wouldn't worry about iTunes. Only a small portion of album sales come from there, besides which, the iTunes crowd isn't really Stevie's demographic.

I think digital albums are about one fifth of the market share overall. The percentage share for albums is a lot lower than for individual tracks.

I tend to agree. Stevie fans are in general an older, more traditional group of music fans who still prefer to have a physical product. I don't foresee myself buying the album on iTunes, and I'm still in my 20s. :) Most Stevie fans are going to want to buy a physical copy of the album for multiple reasons. First and foremost, we like flipping through the album booklets looking at pictures contained within, etc.

Exactly. Most of her fans must be skewing towards the 40+ zone, and I can't imagine the majority of them avidly scouring the web to discover whether an artist they like will have a new record out soon. Like Stevie said in Destiny Rules, the demographic that buys FM and Stevie records isn't 'lying around smoking pot and wondering what record to buy next' anymore.
I expect most of her casual fans will hear about this record via TV appearances, or else they'll physically see the album in Walmart or Target or wherever else.

You are more hung up on sales than anyone I've ever seen. You make a post about it like, every 10 seconds.
Look... her new album isn't gonna sell. Her last one didn't and it was really good. But hey - I love Stevie Nicks, I will buy the new record... but you gotta face the fact that the record biz is fooked up now, and she's never gonna sell a million records. Say You Will barely broke gold and "Fleetwood Mac" is a bigger name than Stevie.

Most of the die hards that have been there from day 1 w/ BM/FM are over 50. It would be nice to see one more, "Hit" but sadly the reality is it's going to pass us by1:sorry:

I do not. There are posts on sevenwonders and this site about where its going to debut at. That is what I'm trying to figure out. Also, if In Your Dreams goes gold, that means that everyone one of her Orginal Albums of new songs has hit gold status or more. That is something to be really proud of.
Keep in mind Street Angel was a bust so it wasn't much motivation for her to make a new one quickly. TISL was a moderate success but the record company wanted more. If this album does better than expected, we may getting a new album sooner than later.
And anymore, Stevie is basically Fleetwood Mac. She is the one who promotes the group and keeps them relevant to the new generation by getting their music on Glee and such. Say You Will didn't do much better than TISL, just a little over 100,000 copies. Had TISL had a hit, she would of surpassed that easy.

Yeah I know you don't literally make a post about it every 10 seconds. I was making a point through sarcasm. Who cares how many copies it sells. We know it's not going to sell a lot, that's a given. Do your part as a fan, buy your copy and why worry about it? The sales of the record have no bearing on whether Stevie will tour. Record sales only have a bearing on when and if she makes another studio record.
The issue about past sales (TISL selling more if it had a hit) is all speculation. I'm also talking about the Fleetwood Mac brand, as a whole, "outselling" Stevie... tours, records, general interest etc. It will always be that way. As for Stevie being the "face" of Fleetwood Mac that's opinion aintz it. There are many people that like Fleetwood Mac, and don't like Stevie Nicks. Not so many people the other way around.

But back on topic... The price of Stevie's CD also has nothing to do with the sales. If people want the record, they are going to go out an buy it. Of course I wish Stevie the best of success... but it'd just be unbridled optimism to hope she'll sell more than half a million copies.

Let's keep the Stevie forum dedicated to Stevie's music, folks. Any discussion of board members and their personalities needs to be moved to private messaging or the Chit Chat forum. If anyone feels victimized or sees a member being victimized, contact a moderator (jannieC, michelej1, or myself).

Thanks for your concern. Very kind of you. I actually have plenty of friends on this site and sevenwonders. I post a lot. I also start a lot of threads. Lots of good thread and posts and some that are exploratory. I could give two craps what some people think, and some people go over-bored with their fake outrage. I mean if you can't say anything nice, then keep it zipped.
Back on topic. Sales are important. Why do you think Stevie has a Moonlight song and is trying to get her music on Glee. She is no dummy. I think she has been brilliant. She knows she has to find a way to remain relevant and to get to record buyers to listen to her music. She is not doing Dancing with the Stars for no reason. There has been plenty of speculation where this album will land opening weekend.
Perfect Lie is right though. Warner Brothers better have some type of promotion when Glee does Rumours and when Stevie is on Dancing With The Stars, or she needs to change record companies and have Fleetwood Mac do the same. Those shows bring in million of viewers and they need to promote her new album heavily.
The RIAA certification has a list of top selling artists of all time. Stevie is on the fence. She is still in the Top, but near the very end. They go by single and album sales. They count by Gold, Platinum, Multi-Platinum status. She needs some more gold album or platinum albums. I'm hoping that Crystal Vision and In Your Dreams will go to Gold, adding another million to her total. Timespace is also close to going to Double Platinum, which will add another million and Bella Donna is very, very close to going 5xplatinum, which will add another million to her total.

Because honestly I'd look at the booklet once and then rip it, put it on my iPod and never mess with it again. Like I did my limited edition Sweet Perfect Box by a band you all have never heard of.
The only reason I buy CDs is when I can't get a quality version off of iTunes.

I wouldn't worry about iTunes. Only a small portion of album sales come from there, besides which, the iTunes crowd isn't really Stevie's demographic.
Actually Itunes is the top retailer for music in the US, as reported by Billboard exactly last year in May 2010! After knocking Walmart off the top of the ladder back in 2008, iTunes now sells more music than both Walmart and Best Buy put together these days. And these figures were based on 2009 yearly sales, so there is no doubt Itunes domination is even higher today. Just food for thought. So while Stevie's core base of fans may be in the older (35+) demographic for the most part, It is a little concerning to see IYD charting on Itunes so low thus far, and is a challenge for her & WB to overcome in having a decent 1st week opening, for those who like to speculate on such things.
I'm back to being conservative in my 1st week sales estimation, based upon the lack of "in your face" promotion and SL stalling on the AC & AAA charts. Aside from Stevie's May 3rd Today Show appearance and Glee "Rumours" episode sparking some new interest. I'm back to speculating IYD moving @25-50K 1st week. Even though I'd love her to land a Top 10 debut, I'm much more interested in IYD being a great solid piece of work (with great vocals) that has legs and gets plenty word of mouth & good to great reviews. All we can do is sit back & do are part - buy the record/spread the word - the rest is out of our hands. While Stevie is a 60+ year old veteran artist/icon, there is no denying she is one of the more "hip" and celebrated sixty-something female recording artists still around.

LOL. Yeah, I suppose I'm hedging a little. I would love to be optimistic (sales upwards of 50K), but I'm generally a practical thinker (and sensing more in the 25-35K) - based upon IYD ITunes standing, and her amazon ranking hovering in the top 20. So unless something big is "unleased" in the next week, or she has more high profile appearances planned throughout the week of May 3rd that have not yet been announced. I'm playing my cards closely to my vest, but hoping for even better.
