The recent quote where Nicks pontificates on the virtues of humbleness and modesty got me thinking---- what are your favorite strong/sassy/confident Stevie lines?
Mine is DEFINITELY "when I want something, I get it," but "I was anyone's fantasy" is a close second

"yes i was beautiful!" (Jimmy Fallon...ok, accident, but i'm sure she meant it, it's subconscious.)

Sometimes when she does "Outside the Rain" she changes the lyric to:
"Baby, is there anyone in this whole wide world who could ever replace me? I don't think so." Love it!

The way I feel about Behind the Mask, as well as all of the "lesser known, and appreciated" Stevie materials is that I look at them as just part of what Stevie and Fleetwood Mac whole, so I always find something to love in it. Plus, it was one of the first FM albums I got... I'm thinking- I got it for Easter of 2004, after becoming a fan in summer of 2003. :)

Yes, it's called crappy mixing! If this album could be seriously remixed, Stevie's vocals could soar, and not sound like she's singing underwater with a clothespin on her nose. The mix is a sonic nightmare in my opinion.

Agreed! I was just listening to Freedom today, and I was wishing I could hear her vocals more clearly.
The album has some prime stuff on it, lyrically, but, it is often lost under the music.
One of my favorite sassy Stevie lines: "I don't really need this in my life! Why don't we forget about it."

I'm kind of partial to when she tells Christine she doesn't hear any background vocals on Sara "because you're not singing any."
I also like when they're rehearsing for The Tusk tour and the sound goes out and she says, "It's not that funny is it?"
Actually, she just says too many things to pick one or twenty. Palm tree hitting Lindsey on the head. Pale shadow of the dragon boy. He was the ayatollah and they were hostages. Rumpled ball of tuskness.
When she said she wouldn't read Mick's book because she'd just have to go through it with a red pen writing "Big Lie" next to things.
Destiny Rules when she says it sounds like John fell off the stage. So much better than saying it sounds like John is absent or that John left. Just the image of him falling off the stage with bass in hand was in my head and I giggled.
She's a riot.

"Don't call me when you're lonely."
"Poor little fool."
"The closest you've ever come to me was to help me up the stairs." I never see this as her talking about being someone physically close to her, but rather someone being her or as amazing as her and the closest whoever she is talking to has ever been to becoming her was to walk up the same damn staircase with her, but even then they were still catering to her. Does this make sense?
"If you really want to leave me, find another windy day. I won't stop you, fill your sails and drift away!"
"When you hang up that phone, well you cease to exist!"
"Take your leave of me now! Disappear, into the air. I wish you gone and I don't care!"
"It's not enough that you depend on me and it's not enough that you say you love me! It's not enough to just save face, because sometimes you just fall from grace."

I've been desperately trying to find it on youtube. But there's this studio chatter clip, where she wants to try recording a certain song, and the studio tech doesn't know whitch one she's talking about and puts the wrong one in a few times. Then when he finally figures it out, Stevie goes, "Thanks, sweetheart," in the "itchiest" way possible. Love it.

How did you get off Klonopin?
I walked into the psychiatrist’s office for the last time in 1993 and said, “I’m going to a hospital, you a$$hole.” He’s going, “I don’t think you should do that. We can drop your dose a bit.” I said, “You **** yourself, you bastard.”

Yes, that whole song is sassy. Especially that make love line. --> That pretty much sums up my initial reaction.
It's been along time since I posted on here but here are some good sassy and/or entertaining quotes from Ms. Nicks!
Crawdaddy Magazine-November 1976
"It's not like I just go onstage and sing every night. I scream and crash a tambourine on my leg and dance around a lot. It's almost an athletic trip for me cause I've never been very strong. In fact I'm like a snake all day, just grooving along slowly. Then for two hours onstage I have all that energy. Afterwards I'm a basket case. I've got to be practically carried away immediately."
Creem 7/77
"I'm not a heavy psychic weirdo. I just happen to love black and I love to dance. I hate seeing rock'n'roll ladies that stomp across the stage and that are so hardcore. It's so unfeminine. Being a sex symbol has never been my goal in life. I just happen to love beautiful flowing movements.
People Magazine-November 26, 1979
"I'm fed up with letting the aura of a big rock band run my life. I'm going back to the gypsy that I was."
People Magazine-November 26, 1979
(about male rockers)"I strive to be taken seriously as a writer, and be as good as they are. So they resent my success. I see it in their eyes, 'How did that dingbat mangage to get everything she wants.'"
Interview with Jim Ladd - 1979
"There's always magic to be summoned at any point. I love to live in a world of magic, but not a fake world of magic. We all really basically have alot of magic. It's only those that really choose to accept it that really understand it. It's there for everyone. That's really the only thing that I feel I am able to give to people and that's why I know that they respond to me because I try to give them only their own magic, not mine, but theirs."
Interview with Jim Ladd - 1979
"I love to be miserable. I love to walk around in the passion of the throws of miserability. I made that word up years ago..miserabilty. I don't like to suffer, I hate pain. But I do like to suffer to the point where I can get to my typewriter and write down my wonderful philosophy on why I'm suffering. I love that part of it."
Australian Interview - April 1980
(about the new bands like The Clash)"If Lindsey had his way we'd be back to the garage anyway with nothing but garbage cans and worse yet full of garbage and four track recorders so he's very in to that. I personally, myself, don't want to go back and use garbage cans. I personally like the new recording technique cause I like to sound good and I like to sit and listen to it so I'm not really into it. But I like some of ths stuff that some of those new bands are doing and long as it sounds like funky old rock and roll, I like it. As soon as it starts to sound like Mars I don't like it."
Earthnews with Joel Denver - 1982
"When they put Rhiannon out as a single they even put a thing about hopefully the public will accept this weird, weird song as you know on like A.M and not for just the stations that warlocks, witches, dwarfes, witches, and gnomes listen to.
BAM Magazine-October 27, 1987
"In the studio, if Lindsey said the wall was gray, I will be absolutely sure it was pink. In order to get one of my songs on a record I will have to say, OK, the wall is gray, Lindsey, otherwise, it was the back of the bus. Now this has nothing to do with the other members of Fleetwood Mac, who, from the beginning, have always been lovely to me, have always known how important my songs are to me, whereas, with Lindsey, he would rather I just stayed at home doing laundry. We are talking about a man who was in love with a woman and would just as soon she had faded out and just been his old lady or wife. Period."
Musicman408
04-27-2011, 09:18 PM
"And even though they were so in love, they drew a line in the sand, just because".
Not necessarily super sassy, but I have been in love with it since I heard it on the sizzle reel!
