This is an interesting thread idea.
Kate Bush is also revealing some awesome 'new' music to the world on May 16th, and has had some great marketing.
Being from the same time frame and having and having a similar sized fan-base, it was interesting for me being a fan to compare both parties marketing.
I think Kate Bush in the end has the best marketing program.
What about you?

I think Kate Bush is good but I don't think she has a marketing plan, I want to say Stevie probably has a better one than hers would be my guess:angel:, I think to is how much the record label is willing to promote the album and artist so today I would think I hate to say it the label probably picks and chooses who to promote the crap out of and usually it would be the younger artists I think, I think the only way Stevie would be getting a real major push is if she had young top of the chart artists on her new cd, Its not fair but I think the label and also Stevie's publists its there job to promote her new cd besides Stevie's I think Stevie's new cd will do awesome and I am loving the tracks like everyone else the ones we have heard so far. Dave did an amazing job on filming the videos too from the clips we have seen so excited to see the rest.

Not to be rude, but was there a point to this post?
I'm so totally excited to hear what Kate has done with some of the songs on her new album

Actually, I'd say Stevie has a better marketing plan than Kate. I've heard one or two little snippets from Kate on Digital Spy, and one in a tabloid, but that's about it. Unlike Stevie, who's been on radop shows, Ellen, Oprah... etc.
Unless I'm quite ignorant and Kate's been doing press interviews and whatnot.

I am too its been a while since she has released something it would be cool also to See her and Stevie tour together as well would be another great pairing of artists they definelty similiar as well. I want to say I don't think she gets promoted well in the united states, Kate might be better promoted over seas than the U.S. she does have a fan base and following here.

The last time that Kate Bush toured Stevie Nicks was not even a solo artist yet.

Kate has been granting print and radio interviews in the UK (with one additional print interview given to each Germany and Ireland). But marketing? All the notice she's garnered is more due to PR, since she's practically a Goddess over there. So far, I have not seen any ads, or commercials and there's been one six-minute video (that she directed, but does not appear in).
Meanwhile, Stevie has toured and will tour again, has a promotional video, a music video and has appeared (in the flesh) on Oprah and Ellen (twice). I love Kate more (I just do), but when it comes to promotion, there is no contest. Though I think she's doing a bit more than when she released Aerial, Kate just doesn't want to put herself out there -- just a flash of image and then the music.
Oh, and here's this (since I made it and I actually do like promoting it). :)

That's true. Kate Bush has a fairly high respect quotient in the UK, a little beyond what she deserves, in my opinion. In her heyday, she could be every bit as silly and whimsical as SN but seemed to get off lightly perhaps because of her association with the heavyhitter Dave Gilmour of Pink Floyd (although you could argue that Stevie got similar coat-tails from Tom Petty).
Back to the point: I haven't seen any actual marketing of KB's Director's Cut album either. But I LOVE the idea of it and will deffo get it at some point.
Also, I love that mash-up you made, Pyewacket! I'd seen it on YT and favourited it. I don't often comment there, but it's nice to be able to say thank you. You're very talented.

I don't really know what Kate Bush's marketing strategy is since I've never followed her and never will. What I will say is I don't think she'd pull in Stevie's numbers or even a top 10 debut since she's never been all that big in the US. Her "Aerial" album in 2005 was much talked about since it was her first in 12 years and yet it failed to break the top 40 on the Billboard chart. Plus Kate rarely makes TV appearances to promote her work anymore. I guess with sales as low as they are she might debut in the top 20 but I wouldn't really bet on it. Then there's the whole not touring which doesn't do her any favours.

THanks for that -- very sweet of you to say.
Here's some info on where Director's Cut is being played in the UK:
BBC Radio 2 have added the album to their B List, which starts this coming Saturday, following it being album of the week this week. BBC 6 Music will have Director’s Cut as the album of the day on 20th May, with a track played on every show. National commercial station Smooth FM have it as album of the week next week, at least two tracks played each day, lunchtime and evening shows.

I'm not sure what your point is, since Kate has never done well in the US (there was exactly one single that made it to #30 in 1985). It's not really just about sales is it? If so, she's not in competition with Stevie for this market by any means, so it's okay to give her a listen now. Stevie won't be cross, I swear. :)

Just like I said. Thanks for repeating that. I guess you could argue what the point of this whole thread actually is.
It's not really just about sales is it?
It's a big part of it since it is a BUSINESS after all. There have been thread after thread and hundreds of posts predicting Stevie's sales for this album, arguing about sales of past albums, iTunes and Amazon sales and chart positions. It's not just me talking about sales.
If so, she's not in competition with Stevie for this market by any means, so it's okay to give her a listen now. Stevie won't be cross, I swear. :)
I never said she was in competion, hell I never even started this damn thread. The OP seemed to be looking at Kate's marketing for her new album to that of Stevie's and deciding which is better. What I meant was even if Kate had all of Stevie's US marketing and promotion, She probably still wouldn't debut top 10 since she's never been that big in the US and doesn't have a very large audience. That's all. Her lack of touring and promotional visits really don't help her either.
I don't listen to Kate Bush because I don't really like her. Her voice grates on me and I find her vastly overrated. It's not because I'm so infatuated with Stevie that I can't bare to like any other female singer. There's no need to be such a condescending Cock . So why don't you go drown yourself in that sea of love behind you in your avatar picture. K? :wavey:

:laugh:So funny. Boy people are prickly these days:lol: I love Kate Bush and will be checking out her new album. I liked her re-working of "The Sensual World" into "Flower of the Mountain". I have fond memories of the album "The Sensual World" in 1989 along with OSOTM. Stevie and Kate are incredible. I differ from you, in that I do prefer Stevie over Kate, though that's not the point.;)

Stevie is an amazing singer and songwriter, but Kate Bush is a musical mastermind. They just aren't in the same category. Stevie's music touches my heart more, but Kate is a genius/mad scientist.
To say that she's given more respect than she deserves isn't quite accurate to me. Take a listen to The Dreaming and Hounds of Love.

^ Agreed, but it wasn't an argument I wanted to bother with. Sometimes I think her videos are a bit silly (the early ones), but her songwriting and producing are impeccable to me.
So if you wanted Stevie and Kate to swap one song each, which would it be?
I'd go with two of my favorite b-sides: Garbo and Under The Ivy. I've been hearing the imagined versions in my head all day and I think they'd both be gorgeous.

Kate's my favorite solo artist and while she isn't overly fond of putting herself way out there to market her work, like Stevie does, I don't think her way of doing things is much less effective. By now her fans know that that's not how she works, so they don't need to rely on tours and appearances (and they know that the chances of getting them are extremely slim so they shouldn't hope too much...).
In terms of marketing to potential new fans and audiences, I'd say Stevie's way of doing this is definitely more effective, since she's actually putting herself out there.
They're both incredible, they both have their own methods of doing things, and their methods are generally effective in their own ways.
That's my two cents, I suppose.
Oh, and for the swapping thing - I agree that Stevie doing Love and Anger could be interesting. Well, my two favorite songs in the world are Love and Anger and Gypsy, so maybe they could trade my favorites (yeah, technically Gypsy is a FM song, but Stevie wrote it and sang it so whatever).
Oh and gosh, must people be so negative? I know I'm still fairly new here so please don't get upset with me or think I'm not in my place or anything, but really. I really see no point whatsoever in posting in a thread just so you can say you don't care/don't agree/dislike thall sorts oe people being discussed. Wouldn't it be much easier to just avoid it altogether? As interesting as it would be to see all sorts of posts going "just dropping by to let you know that I do not agree with this thread at all!", it would be a waste of everyone's time. Another thing - of course people are allowed to disagree on things and everything, but personal attacks? Isn't that a little low? Rather puerile too.
I'm getting a little rant-y and everything, so I'll shut up. Not trying to tell people how to act or anything. Once again, just my two cents. Don't hate me. :distress:
Stevie Nicks. Kate Bush. Woo. :)

On the subject of marketing it is interesting to note that whilst IYD has a release date in the UK of June 27th (after Hyde Park I believe?) Kates new project is available in the States on import from May 23rd one week after the release date in the UK.
Since both ladies are not known to tour this side of the Atlantic as solo artists on a regular basis I would be interested to know how this policy works. Would it be a surprise for Stevie to know that when she arrives she would not be able to purchase her new album in the country where she is appearing? Since I would imagine she will change her setlist accordingly why the delay?
Whilst feeling a little neglected over here I would like to hear Daves point of view on this since he is a British producer and this is a great album, her best for many a long year. He has a new album out too after all!
