Since we have the In Your Dreams album cover, its time for a re-evaluation.

I always felt Trouble In Shangri La captured Stevie's iconic look the best. I loved the colors.
Bella Donna though, was a very close second.

I totally agree with TISL, and still vote it number 1, but the In Your Dreams are Wild Heart are great too.

Rock A Little, all the way.

Although, Soundstage has a great cover as well.

TISL i agree it captured the whole " Stevie vibe ". I really want to love the IRD cover but, the fact that it just doesn't look like her disturbs me

No she is giving serious angles on the OSOTM cover!
It captivated me as a gay child!

I vote Rock A Little. It was always something about the whole witchyness of it all I liked plus to me she was so pretty on it and I absolutely love that outfit she has on. But I also like in no particular order, her other album covers

Bella Donna
Wild Heart
TISL
Timespace

Soundstage, her feet were cut off and it ruined the photo so I don't like that picture pose. :distress:

My favorite hands down is Street Angel. That flat matte finish, the soft pink that we've all come to know is Stevie's favorite color. The way it kind of has the look of a Design The Next Stevie CD Cover contest last place entry.

Okay, I'm totally kidding.

I do love Rock A Little because of it's simplicity, and it's full of motion. You can almost see her spinning, which is such a trademark Stevie move. I remember trying to recreate it on my TRS-80 Radio Shack computer, lovingly hand placing pixel after pixel in perfect 8-bit glory. Of course that entire portrait would be the size of a postage stamp these days if my medium of storage hadn't been a cassette! But I digress.

I always thought the Other Side of the Mirror cover looked too airbrushed. I mean, her face is almost blue. But the back side was absolutely stunning. I always thought the back cover should have been the cover and if so then it would have been my favorite.

OSOTM would totally be my favourite if she didn't have a sheep on her head.

I think Wild Heart may be my favourite album cover. Mainly because of the gorgeous colours used. Bella Donna and TISL are also really classic. I like RAL a lot too.

IYD, if it wasn't for that god-damn bubble thing, would totally be my favourite.

SA is just... a giant pink turd. With blonde hair. Awful cover.

Yeah I didn't like her OSOTM hair either on the cover, even in 1989 when it came out. It looked much better though in the ROF video.

SA, it's pale, it's pink. It's awful.

It is indeed! However, there's a certain something about the photo that I like, but it just wasn't enough to be an album cover.

These on the other hand would have been great album covers:

I'm so glad Stevie has pretty feet. I know I go on about the men's all the time but so happy she has some nice ones herself. I couldn't see her being such a beauty with horrid feet.

TISL. It's just so beautiful... the colors are saturated and rich, Stevie's outfit is fantastic blowing in the wind, it has a mystical air, and it has the sea in the background (one of Stevie's and my fav things!). I think the cover captures who she is far better than most of her album covers.

Hate the TISL cover, it seems more fitting for the Wild Heart CD, whats up with that ledge she's standing on? One slip and shes BAM into the ocean. Give me witchy poo Rock a Little/Wild Heart covers anyday over TISL.

To me heat and humidity and palm trees and water all just go together and that's what tropical means to me. California just wouldn't do it for me. Our waters already almost 80 and climbing and it's felt like the heat of Summer for the past month or more down here. AC's running in full force already. But.... I love it here.

I have to say, aside from TISL and IYD, I don't find any of Stevie's album cover's remotely interesting.

Bella Donna = picture of Stevie with some random bird against a black background. yawn.
The Wild Heart = 3 Stevie's against a black background. Yawn
Rock A Little = Stevie twirling. Great fun but Yawn.
OSOTM = WTF? Get off the floor, woman
Timespace = hiding in a duvet cover, Stevie? Yawn.
Street Angel = oh god, she's fallen asleep against a white background. Damn Klonopin. Best add some pink to make it pretty. Yawn.

Fair Enough.

As far as actual studio albums go then... I'd have to go with either TISL or SA. The cover doesn't bother me. It's of it's time, yeah the font and size of Stevie's name is HORRID, but it's a good shot.

TISL. Hands down. The movement in the photo provided by Stevie's flowing chiffon bat winged sleeves, set against the backdrop of the sea is dramatic. And even from behind, Stevie's image is hauntingly iconic. The embellishments to the photo in post production enhanced this photo perfectly to capture Stevie in all her glory and represent the mood and burnish colors of the record.

But I do LOVE all of Stevie's 1st 3 solo album covers. Each for their simplistic beauty, but they also hold iconic and sentimental value. I grew up to these albums, from nearly a teenager all the way through high school (twelve to seventeen years old). 81' through 86' was a wonderful and magical time to be a Stevie Nicks fan in the universe. Nothing will ever really compare:angel: It was a certain time , certain place... never to be again. The only time that comes close is Stevie's 2nd coming during "The Dance" through TISL, but that still doesn't really hold a candle to Stevie's heyday.

I never looked at her as in mid-twirl, the way she's posed looks like she had on some hoop under-skirt causing it to flare all out like that for effect. If she was really twirling her hair would've been flying around with her and she would've never achieved such a perfect pose. I say wire underskirt and that's what I will always think.

'Rock A Little' is my favourite. I love that the outfit and pose captures the Stevie mysticism, but there's something more slick and contemporary than the previous two album covers. The graphic design and typography is a touch 1980s, but I like the subtle reference to the early Fleetwood Mac albums with the crystal ball and the positioning of that element of the cover in a bottom corner seems to reference the tamborine and flowers from 'Bella Donna' too.

I love all the album covers hard choice to choose one so I went with The Wild Heart just seem to fit her very Witchy Persona that says Stevie Nicks three images of her in a black cloak I remember she used to wear her cloak on stage on the rock a little tour and otherside of the mirror tour she did too. I think she should drag it out on the in your dreams tour. she used to have by here microphone she used to have a tamobrine stand with all different kinds of tamobrines on them.

I don't LOVE any of them, but I think she's most beautiful on Crystal Visions. I think TISL is quite interesting, but I think it would have been incredible if they'd done it with a blue/green palette? The only other one that does anything for me is The Wild Heart -- I like threes, too!

She also has the 3 roses on the Bella Donna cover. And her necklace in the music video for Gypsy is a "3." Mabye it has something to with the 3 birds of Rhiannon? Or her pyramid necklace? Does anyone know what's up with that? Mabye we should start a new thread...?

P.S. Sorry if this has been discussed before!

just found this is an interview
The record company was on the verge of a nervous breakdown as she demanded a last-minute substitution with the new sleeve, white on misty blue, which is “completely opposite” to the Rumours sleeve, stark black on white. On the back the three roses on the silver tambourine (three girl friends singing, three sides of the pyramid, she explains – she’d like to live in a pyramid if the Welsh cliffs are all taken – all very symbolic) and it means “coming in out of the darkness. A decision I had to make – a question whether or not I could do something alone without my comrades to hold me up. Because I’d been in a group so long that had been all in control.”

I picked The Wild Heart with BD really close or tied. I just think there both iconic photos of Stevie though for most of her solo LPs I pefer the outtakes than actually what was chosen. For BD I love the Blue Lamp photo session and still think its a crime those weren't used for the LP in some way--or at least for the acutual cover to Enchanted instead of the stupid feather. I haven't seen many outtakes for WH just a few. Like the outtakes to RAL/Mirror/SA/TISL. I don't know why so many people like TISL cover. Its Stevie's back. I love the outtakes with the flowers and she's facing the camera NOT her back side. Just not for me. To each his or her own. I think the 3 roses on BD meant her , Lori and Sharon. I think for the WH she was inspired by a Sulmeith W. photo but not sure which one. I just know I love that cover. I actually found a poster with the cover from Aust. I've not ever seen a US LP cover poster with the LP cover on it for WH. I thought its pretty rare really. I have it up now. Love it!!!! I really never knew one exsisted for it. Feel very lucky to have it too. As far as for the '3' necklace someone gave that to Stevie as a present for 3 Million sold for BD I recall reading that in an interview. Its ok to love what you love. Theres nothing wrong with that.:D

Rock A Little is my fav.

The Wild Heart is my least fav....I swear I can see tape on the corners of the Stevies....putting them all together. Cheap and discolored.

I have to disagree with you :p
I feel as though The Wild Heart cover sums up everything that is Stevie Nicks, at least to me.

Wasn't there a ledgie on here who had a friend paint him a full sized painting of this cover? Am I making stuff up? haha

I really HATE the OSOTM cover, so I had a play around and made that. I much prefer it to the actual cover

I voted for "Timespace." I always thought it was a beautiful picture of Stevie, and I love the font.

^^^ And here I was sure that I was the only one who likes the TimeSpace cover, though my vote goes to Rock a Little. I always felt that the captured twirl epitomizes her ( at least at the time).

Belladonna is the most iconic... and I think Stevie is lovely..

Wild Heart is pretty too, but I always feel like it looks to have been left in the sun too long...

Rock A Little is fun... but if you look very closely on the album sleeve... her face has clearly been added on to another body shot

The Other Side of The Mirror would have been great with the back shot, as posted

Street Angel is awful... One of the David LaChappelle shots would have made a fantastic cover... are there any more outtakes floating around???

TISL is beautiful and looks like the album sounds

In Your Dreams is luke warm with me... I just want to see the cd and packaging as a whole first...

TISL, followed closely by RAL. IYD is probably 3rd, now that I've had some time to take it in. WH & BD are okay, but not great. SA is totally forgettable. OSOTM is 4th, or maybe tied w/ IYD - it's certainly more interesting that BD or WH.

What WAS up with that cover? Anyone know the significance of 3 of her on the cover? I think that's why I like it so dam much, she just seems so spaced out at this time!

I don't know, but I always thought it might have something to do with that Wiccan triple goddess thing.

Supposedly inspired by Sulamith Wulfing, according to wiki:

"The singer/songwriter Stevie Nicks has credited Sulamith Wülfing's art with providing the inspiration for many of her songs, as well as the cover of The Wild Heart (album), which was inspired by this painting. A concert video screen displayed Sulamith Wülfing art images during Stevie's 2005 Gold Dust tour."

I think they went for the golden colors palette in order to represent "Shangri-La".

I think I like the triple goddess explanation better.

What painting is this? I dunno if I've ever seen any of this Sulamith guy's work. He's not like Thomas Kincaide, is he?

The link to the painting is broken and I can't find anything by her (Sulamith) that resembles WH cover. A lot of her stuff looks very tacky and fairytale-ish, no wonder stevie loves her.

I just Googled her and saw some of her paintings. It's like the Wiccan version of Precious Moments. I wasn't far off w/ the Thomas Kincaide comparison.

Ha, thomas kincaide. His stuff was nice for about 1 minute back in the 90's, it got tacky REAL quick.

Here's my take on it:

Bella Donna is a nicely iconic album cover. Stevie looks great in it, and at the time she mentioned what all the symbolism meant. She'd had a dream about seeing herself as a "white column" so that's where the dress and giant platforms come from. She also considered the Bella Donna cover to be sort of the opposite of the Rumours cover....white dress vs. black dress, pale background vs. black background. Since its release Bella Donna has become the one classic album (so far) that Stevie released, so now its cover is also pretty iconic.

The Wild Heart cover is pretty representative of Stevie's life and her music at the time, in that it seems rather unfocused and somewhat chaotic. Three Stevies on the cover confuses the viewer. When the album came out, Stevie mentioned in an interview what the three different Stevies meant....the only one I can recall is that the one Stevie sitting down looking morose was supposed to represent her reaction to all the suffering in the world.

Rock A Little is an album cover that I've never really quite "gotten". I agree with others that I think they were trying to mimic Stevie's spins in the pic, but I'm thrown off by that while her face/hair look like she's somewhat in motion, her feet seem squarely planted and not in motion at all. I also really don't get the look of her head in this shot....its somewhat blurred around the chin line. Rock A Little also takes a hit from me in that it's my least favorite "Stevie Nicks" logo, and the "Rock A Little" icon seems slap-dash placed on the cover (versus the Bella Donna cover, which had a sense of balance between the tambourine/roses, Stevie/bird, and logo/album title).

The Other Side of the Mirror is actually my second favorite cover of hers. There's a really obvious "Alice in Wonderland" vibe to the pic which matches the album title and the album 'title song' of "Alice". The logo is stylish, the album title has a nice effect with the mirrored letters, and Stevie-as-Alice on the chess board rocks. I've never been put off by her pose here like some are. The balance of all the elements in the picture is the best of any Stevie album up to this point. I think some folks tend to deride this album cover because they don't like the album music itself.

Street Angel goes for a classic color combination with pink/black but other than that (and a decent Stevie picture) it really basically fails as an album cover. First of all, all previous Stevie covers show Stevie's entire body. Street Angel throws this consistency off by being a close-up. Second, the logo is uninspired. Third, the album title is also uninspired by using an obvious font and just slapping it across the lower third of the cover. I think a Street Angel cover using the "Stevie standing in a corner full body picture" (as someone posted here) would have been a huge improvement.

Trouble In Shangri-La is the best Stevie album cover. Even though Stevie is walking away in the picture, you know from the flowing dress and the tresses that it's her. It's very iconic. The colors are beautiful and very representative of the aura of "shangri-la". The logo is inspired with the use of the "dragon S", and the album title is placed really nicely with the vertical stripe. Having the sea apparent in the background fits quite nicely both from what we know of Stevie's connection to the sea and it also fits into the lyrics of "Bombay Sapphires". Very beautiful cover to a great album.

In Your Dreams has a nice theme going with the enchanted forest vibe, and that does fit many of the songs on the album: the title track, "Annabel Lee" (due to the video), and "Moonlight" (the mention of "they drop....to the forest floor....frozen"). I like that it's a full body shot of Stevie, which is in keeping with every other album except Street Angel. The white horse kind of reflects the white dove of Bella Donna. I'm not put out by the lens flare bubble, I think it adds interest to the look of the album cover.

Another take on In Your Dreams: I think the cover to "Secret Love" may have really been the intended album cover but someone somewhere changed their mind. Certainly the mirror of that cover is seen prominently in the sizzle reel during "Annabel Lee" and "Italian Summer". It may also be in the "Secret Love" video. So I think there was an initial intended tie-in. Where I think the original cover of In Your Dreams failed was mainly in that it was again a close-up of Stevie which was reminiscent of Street Angel. Had Stevie appeared in the mirror at more of a distance so that it was a full body shot, it would have been more consistent with her general album cover "look". I also think the original cover suffered from lacking Stevie's name logo or the album title when it initially came out. I do think that this cover was beautifully shot and that a lot of fans here missed the subtle eeriness of the shot: You're looking into a mirror that isn't reflecting what's behind you but rather what's ahead of you.
