I think the 25 word limit is a bit extreme (my own signature, which I think is probably the most non-offensive one ever, violates this rule, so I removed it). But the gigantic ones, with the browser-crashing photos, are a bit much.

I'm with the rule change, but I do think it is a wee bit excessive. Is mine even within the rules? I don't like the massive signatures either, so I'm definitely with the change in that respect.

Bee, your signature is just fine in my book. :)
Mark, your signature was very compact... I don't see a problem with you bringing it back. It's not like you had huge pictures, oversized text, links, and youtube videos in addition to your text.

I totally understand why this is being enforced, but the current site restrictions - I couldn't even read the text in the banners once they were sized to the specs...

Are you talking about the text you have overlaid ON your picture? I don't care what size the text is ON your picture, just so long as the picture itself isn't over 200 pixels in height (yours is 225 pixels high, by the way... so it's just barely too large according to the new rules).
This is text size 4... the largest size allowed by the new signature rules. If you can't read this, perhaps you need to adjust your monitor resolution or zoom?

Just the "banners" I've made before, when I resized them either the text overlay or the picture was too small to see. Eh, no biggie. I'm a novice with all that anyway and just killing time when I do make 'em.

I have a suggestion for you... make your banners much wider vs worrying about height. For instance, look at this one:
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j134/gypsycarly/fleetwood%20mac/08_0717_ss_banner02_600.jpg
I think it's very artsy and cool. It's got text, it's got atmosphere, and it's got Stevie's face. Give your creativity an isometric workout and experiment with wider banners like the one above! :D
Here are some more great examples of what would be very acceptable:

I just pulled them off the internet. Do a google picture search for "Fleetwood Mac banner" or "Stevie Nicks banner" etc and see what you can find. There are some really cool ones out there. Or make one yourself if you're artistic! :D

It looks like the text for your name is one size too large, and you definitely have too much text beneath your picture :).

I'm SOOOOO glad this issue is finally being dealt with! Continually scrolling past absurdly large signatures was tiresome and annoying, and that doesn't even take into account how much time they took to load.
Kudos to the Ledge admins and moderators!!!

no pictures over 200 pixels in height in signatures
What about the width? I need a number? Telling me no larger than size #4 makes no sense to me. I need a pixel width please?

It was already said that width isn't an issue, as the main concern is loading spead and expanse of the page covered. Width doesn't affect any of that, as long as it isn't so wide that it causes the forum page to stretch horrible. As for height in pixels, it was already said in an earlier post that 200 pixels was the goal number.

Like Bee said, there are no limitations on picture width. We are aiming for wide pictures in signatures, not tall. This makes it easier to scroll through threads.
The font size limitation is size 4. When you go to post a message, there is a pull down menu with font sizes. There are sizes 1-7. Nothing larger than size 4 is permitted... that's pretty self explanatory and straightforward :)

I actually didn't want to change the rules at all because of you. I know you like large, high resolution graphics in all of the posts.

Wait till you see the sig Peter MacMan made for me of the late-leg Wild Heart tour. It's small but fab.

You're very lucky. Peter used to make incredible banners, merging several high resolution images that just jumped off the screen at you. Those were great.

We are trying to curb the height of people's signatures so that pages will load faster, and so people won't have to spend as much time scrolling through signatures just to get to the text of posts.
You're also only allowed to have 1 HTML link per signature. You have two in yours :).

And you now just tell me that.
Kinda strange, I noticed it gone.
