So what are your least favorite released songs on a solo or FM album?

Leather and Lace -Only because I can't stand Don Henley. I rather like the version w/ Lori and Sharon.
Two Kinds of Love
Desert Angel
Jane
Docklands
Silver Girl
When I See You Again
Too Far From Texas -I could definitely do without Natalie Maines screeching.

I honestly like most of Stevie's songs. A true faery dust snorting Chiffonhead, that's me.

Yes to The Second Time, No Questions Asked, and Paper Doll! Imperial Hotel is a pretty bad song as far as quality but something about it is kind of catchy and fun so I didn't include it. It's up there though. I didn't like Sweet Girl either for the longest time until I heard the demo version which I really love so now I can at least deal with the released version.

Gutted by the amount of hatred Freedom is seeing, it and Save Me are the highlights from that album, imo :(

This is harder than I thought. Songs I used to loathe from Stevie, like Silver Girl and When I See You Again, I've grown to love recently; especially the latter.

1) Jane.
2) Welcome To The Room... Sara. Unlike WISYA, I cannot like this song. The production is terrible, and the only thing I remember from the song is "This is a dream right / deja vu"
3) Smile At You. The one on SYW just doesn't appeal to me at all.
4) Desert Angel
5) Sometimes It's A Bitch
6) The Second Time
7) Gate and Garden
8) Affairs Of The Heart. Love the lyrics, loathe the production.
9) Ooh My Love
10) Unconditional Love

1 - ‘Alice’ – I’ve never seen a song at any concert clear a crowd for the bathroom so quickly. It was like the trailer for ‘The Blob’.

2 - ‘I Sing for the Things’ – I have no idea why I dislike this song so much. Normally I like Stevie with acoustic guitar. Normally I like Stevie with Raspalittled voice ('Rock a Little', 'Lady from the Mountain'). Nothing on this works.

3 - ‘Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind’ – The vocal is decent, but this is entirely the wrong song for Stevie Nicks.

4 - ‘Love Is’ – The demo is better than the album version, but I’m not nuts about either of them. I really don’t care for the lyrics, especially the part about the tear hitting her lip & then the floor. You’re the Queen of Rock, you’re allowed to grab a tissue.

5 - ‘The Second Time’ - I don’t hate the song, it just needs greater subtlety than Stevie could give in those years. Stevie’s BTM voice is not right for the sparse guitar. A softer vocal, more like ‘It’s Only Love’, could have done wonders.

6 - ‘Love Changes’ – I don’t like the production.

7 - ‘Destiny Rules’ – Is the album called ‘Croak You Will’?

8 - ‘Everybody Finds Out’ - I like her belting in the last few bars, but the vocal at the very start is flat, & 7/8 of the song is just an overproduced nightmare. Could have been better.

9 - ‘Illume’ – Snake-voice Lindsey on back-up ruins this one for me, destroys the whole mood of the song. I think his normal voice would have been fine.

10 - ‘Affairs of the Heart’ – I like the “But I knew that this was just for now…” part, but mostly her vocal falls short on this one, and the lyrics and melody are uninspired.

*dishonorable mentions – 'Every Day', which I might resent less if it had not been selected to be the 1st single from TISL. And 'Smile at You', where a decent vocal is wasted on a mess of a production.

well that's tricky, did she actually colloborate on Maybe Love, or did she just sing the song?

Affairs Of The Heart. Love the lyrics, loathe the production.

Right there, is why some of Stevie's songs fail. The right producer and production makes all the difference in the world, especially for an artist like Stevie, who has very rudimentary musical instrument talent.

I like all her BTM songs, but the production is atrocious! And on Stevie's songs specifically, the band sounds like it put forth little effort and zero imagination. AOTH & Freedom could have truly been A+ songs in the right hands. I've always thought in general BTM sounds like it was recorded and filtered through a tin can. Greg Ladanyi & along with whoever else in FM actually produced - made the case crystal clear as to why FM needed Lindsey, and Richard Dashut and Ken Calliat wouldn't have hurt too... at this point.

Wow--this was hard. I'm a newer fan and since there's so much Stevie music to love, I really haven't given much attention to the dreck. I limited it to songs Stevie is credited as a writer or co-writer on.

Silver Girl
Ooh My Love
After the Glitter Faces
Destiny
Unconditional Love--I don't know whether the harmonies are off or whether she just can't hit the notes, but the voices on the chorus make me wince.
Nothing Ever Changes
Bombay Sapphires--People seem to like this one, but I think the chorus is a big ol' cheese ball.
That Made Me Stronger
Alice
Wild Heart--Can't stand the production on the album version

I haven't mentioned these 2 but I agree with you on them. Geeze, there are a lot of songs I dislike . Many more I like though so I don't feel too bad.

As far as Unconditional Love, the verses are absolutely stellar but the chorus SUCKS! Never have heard a song with such great verses and s***ty chorus.

Gypsy (Gorrid production - what were you thinking, Lindsey?)
Sara (Rancid vocal, makes my ears bleed)
Edge of Seventeen (Damn kids these days and their rock and roll, too noisy, guitar solo makes my ears bleed)
Sable On Blond (Mick Fleetwood is a terrible drummer)
Landslide (Too sad, songs should make you dance)
Stand Back (I don't like dance songs)
Silver Springs (Dance version) (I hate it when Stevie gets all passionate about relationships and ****. I liked her better when she was bloated and sedated.)
Beautiful Child (More crappy goat-like vocals. I didn't understand the meaning of the lyrics 100% when I first heard it, and I hate everything I don't completely understand the first time.)
Secret Love (Yeah, like you're really gonna get away with writing songs I have to think about forever, Stevie!)
I Can't Wait (Can't you sing some nice quiet songs like Judy Garland? I told you before this satanic rock crap is making my bedpan vibrate when you kids play it late in the afternoon! Arggghhhh!!!)

My first post...hate to start with the worst but needed to get that off my chest.

When I See you Again (Stevie's worst and arguably Fleetwood Mac's worst song, ever recorded vocal, why did they record this?)
Desert Angel (so strained and a totally unlistenable song)
Welcome to the Room...Sara (welcome to the choir sir...eek)
Jane (that forgotten chimpanzee, although cute, is also her worst writing)
Docklands (sorry, Stevie doesn't do laundromats)
Street Angel (live on the street and always will, good line, badly sung)
Trouble in Shangri La (Good song, horridly bad vocals, sorry)
I Sing for the Things (the fast version recorded with a Wild Heart voice might have been great)
The Second Time (the last time for the ill-fated Mask line-up and good riddance)
Destiny Rules (Again, a stellar song like trouble in Shangri-La but her performance ruins it for me, this stellar guitar work by Lindsey should have been honoured by a stellar vocal, one of Fleetwood Mac's missed classics)

Cheers,

Japhry

1. Silver Girl
2. Goodbye Baby
3. Too Far From Texas (was she holding her nostrils shut through the entire recording?)
4. Whole Lotta Trouble (sorry, I know a lot of people like this song-but she sounds like a tortured, bleating goat on this one, and the music sounds like wanna be fabulous thunderbirds or cheesy ZZ Top type of blues, which doesn't suit Stevie at all.)
5. Booty and The Beast

7. Cry Wolf
8. Just Like a Woman

In no particular order:

Reconsider Me
Two Kinds of Love
I Can't Wait ( I REALLY hate this one - the video is fun to watch, but the song...Yeeesh!)
Silver Girl
Street Angel
Wild Heart
Too Far From Texas
Everyday
Rock A Little
Somebody Stand By Me

There's 10. May be a couple more, but that's most of mine.

Her Fleetwood Mac output:

"Welcome to the Room, Sara" (the demo makes this passable....the final song, ish!)
"When I See You Again" (might have been okay if sung better)
all the Behind the Mask songs. I just thought they were all pretty pedestrian by previous standards.

I think she's gotten back to her old standards since then, slowly improving from "Twisted" onward.

Her solo output:

Frankly I think Stevie has had songs on her solo albums that Mac never would have recorded, on pretty much every album with the possible exceptions of the Bella Donna and Trouble In Shangri-La. For me, these are the worst:

"Outside the Rain" and "How Still My Love" from Bella Donna are not bad songs at all, but they do seem like "Dreams"-lite.
"Wild Heart" from Wild Heart. A more disjointed, rambling version of the excellent song "Bella Donna".
"Gate and Garden" from Wild Heart. Catchy chorus, but otherwise meandering, and weird lyrics.
"Sister Honey" from Rock A Little. Way too 80s synthy.
"The Nightmare" from Rock A Little. Strange lyrics married to pedestrian music never works.
"I Still Miss Someone" from The Other Side of the Mirror. Doesn't fit on what was otherwise a dark, atmospheric album. "Fire Burning" and "Cry Wolf" don't fit for the same reasons, but I don't necessarily dislike those songs. She should have just embraced the dark, made The Other Side of the Mirror her version of the "Black Album" and been done with it.
"Greta", "Docklands", "Just Like A Woman" and "Jane" from Street Angel. By far her worst album.
"It's Only Love" from Trouble In Shangri-La. The only song I skip on the entire album.

People who dislike Goodbye Baby must have not seen it live on the SYW tour right? It was very moving...

Yeah, it should have been moved right out of the set.

I also forgot to mention my last 3 tracks I loathe. Here's 2 more:

Best list haha
The only songs I dont like
Just Like a Woman, Desert Angel and Illume (because of the weird production)
Everything else I like/love to varying degrees

What??? I love Angel, That's Alright, Nightbird and Wild Heart. I have just remembered your distatse for country and The Wild Heart album though.. oh well.

I have to agree on Beauty and The Beast and Unconditional Love though (see my list). Beauty and ther Beast moves between being quite nice sometimes to just horribly mawkish and bleurgh.

I feel so sad for Jane. I love this song. The writing (sans the unfortunate chimpanzee reference) is pretty good, and I thought the song was one of the better produced tracks from SA. It's actually my favorite from the album.

What could she have used instead of chimpanzee to make this better....? hmmm (goes into deep thought)

"Reconsider Me" is a fantastic song, and Stevie really delivers on the vocals. That aside, I too find it hard to comprehend any Stevie fan including: Angel, Thats Alright, Nightbird, Wild Heart, & Beauty And The Beast on any Top 10 least favorite Stevie song list. Now, Unconditional Love, Jane & Silver Girl, I can understand more. But it sure seems like some here are just bored and blatantly including songs for shock value:rolleyes:. IDK, these lists are soooo tiresome already, and people are certainly entitled to express their displeasure. But this just proves Stevie can never live up to everyones taste/expectations no matter how good the album/songs or musical arrangements and production are.

Some of the choices in this thread are blowing my mind. :]

That's cool though, my choices might rankle somebody.

For BtM, I dislike the production so much that I've only listened to it twice. Not gonna count those. Same goes for OsotM, and I don't have Street Angel yet.

Anyway, my picks are:

When I See You Again (sumpin's thamatta here)
Goodbye Baby (sounded good in the Destiny Rules doc, what happened?)
The Nightmare (it's like she's rambling over awful synth)

I might not love some of the others, but they don't bother me so much that I can't listen to em on occasion, unlike the ones I listed.

well... for me i actually like the vocal? it's a quiet whisper of a song (unless it's live) and her belting out the vocal wouldn't have worked..at least not for me. One of the reasons I'm not too fond of Love Is ..is because she's belting out the vocal... really don't dig it when she's all but screaming ..corner of her MOUUUTH!!! back in the day she sang her ballads with a softer voice and saved the belting for rock songs! but that's just me??:sorry:

I'm shocked at how many people have listed After The Glitter Fades.

I see a lot of standards, though, like Unconditional Love, Two Kinds of Love, etc.....

For me, my list was not 'songs I don't like' but rather songs that are my 'least favorite' as the poll asked for. All of Stevie's work is my 'favorite' and I don't truly dislike any of her songs...though there are a few that I would not care about listening to often.

I consider anything with a steel guitar to be country. After The Glitter Fades is definitely country, as is That's Alright. I think Leather & Lace and The Highway Man even border on country.

If Stevie or Fleetwood Mac albums were getting released as of todays country music,Stevie or FM would slip right in there with Lady Antebellum,Kieth Urban,Sugarland and Zac Brown Band. Todays country sounds more like light rock then grannies back in the 50' to the 80's. which I do like better then todays.

I'm a country/bluegrass/alt-country fan and am happy with most of it but, like any genre, there was a period that I couldn't stand a lot of what was produced. When people like Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, Travis Tritt etc appeared. Now there's Toby Keith - arggh! That's really not for me. I prefer people from that time who have evolved, like Rosanne Cash.

To be honest I'm having trouble thinking of them.

I have some that I don't prefer compared to others, but really the ones that I used to detest and skip over... they grew on me over time.

For instance, I used to detest Rooms on Fire, mostly because the 'if I do say so myself' and the repetition of the word room in two consecutive lines really made me cringe for some reason. But after a while I grew to appreciate it and now I quite like the song.

I'm sure there are some that I just can't stand, but at the moment they aren't coming to mind.
