I wish stevie would use the white stage instead of putting that stupid black plywood on the stage.

I think she looks better with all the black against the white floors...and the lights show off better.

I agree, even with the lyrical flub. Just a little thing, but I like that she didn't go for that lower note on the last syllable of "follow" this time.

Thanks for capturing these, Erin.

I said the same thing to my brother - thank god she didn't go for that lower note that seems so unnatural. It sounded so good tonight. And you know she is distracted by Rod and is helping him out by finding his note to get him started then she takes the harmony part which is the flip of the recorded version. Then Rod's antics I believe threw her off for the lyrics but she didn't seem to mind at all and seemed really entertained by Rod this time. So I think he is loosening her up enough. It rocked tonight!

The performance of Learher And Lace is much better than the first night they did it Philly where Stevie seemed very nervous and uncomfortable with the song. Rod has even seemed to learn the song!!

I agree. The dress makes her look less than skinny. I would love to see the long Rhiannon sleeves with the pants or a whole show in the pants. However like Shane suggested, a whole show with different colored dresses wuld work nicely as well.

None of the concert want cameras and recorders .Unless its a bands like the Greatful Dead concert .I can understand the camera thing been onstage with a million flash buibs going off at the same time.God forbid if Stevie falls from the stage due to her eyes getting blinded from the flashbulbs. People dont know better the flash will only go a few feet. Also dont know how to stop the flash from going off..Alicia if you dont mind me asking .what kind of camara did you use.

I really enjoyed the videos and I'm glad you got them-- thank you Erin. It's funny, as I watch Rod, I can't help but see this big yellow fuzzy lab dog bouncing around, wagging his tail. He really wants to please so much. I can see Stevie is still keeping an eye on him, but she now seems more relaxed with him, laughing at him a bit, too. He clearly means no harm to her.

You're welcome! I've learned one thing, though...I need to build up my upper arm strength. My muscles are killing me today from holding up the camera.

Rod was very eager. He's certainly a showman, but he's too schmaltzy for my taste. All the playacting to the crowd, and why did he keep slapping his butt?!

My favorite moment from the entire concert may have been Stevie promising us she would buy a place in Chicago because it's her favorite city. I fully expect to see her at the grocery store any day now!

Wha?? I'm originally from Chicago. I went to school and Nashville and have stayed here after graduation to look for a job. I haven't been successful (picked a stupid major) so I have been considering moving back to Chicago. If she has a place there, I might actually look forward to moving back. haha. :blob2:

Voices hold up, but Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks mostly mimic hits
By DAVE HOEKSTRA Staff Reporter/[email protected] Apr 10, 2011

The Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks “Heart & Soul” tour landed Saturday night at a nearly sold-out United Center with the Las Vegas glitz of Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme.

Fancy clothes? Check. Stewart changed from gold to powder blue to purple suits. Wild light shows? Check. Wacky jokes? Check. When Nicks and Stewart dueted on the 1981 Nicks/Don Henley hit “Leather and Lace,” Stewart stood in the background pretending he was removing a lace undergarment. It took some luster off the cowboy ballad that Nicks wrote for Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter. Stewart also looked as if he was pulling a latter-day Frank Sinatra and singing from a TelePrompTer.

But if you looked hard enough there were poignant moments beyond the ’70s excess that found Stewart and Nicks, with Fleetwood Mac, at their peaks.

Sheryl Crow joined Nicks for “Sorcerer” and locked into the harmony of the Mac hit “Landslide.” Singing spot-on as the song was recorded (which legacy music fans love), Nicks was in comfortable vocal range while a screen featured a photo montage of her growing up. Crow was in town to tape an Oprah Winfrey episode that includes Nicks, Joan Jett, Miley Cyrus and others. The show airs Wednesday. Nicks took time to thank Winfrey for “being so fantastic.”

Likewise, Stewart struck a chord with the AARP audience with beautiful, unadorned covers of his hits “Reason To Believe” (written by Tim Hardin), Van Morrison’s “Have I Told You Lately I Love You” and Cat Stevens’ “The First Cut Is the Deepest,” also a hit for Crow. Crow, who almost joined the 2009 Fleetwood Mac tour, did not sit in with Stewart.

The night’s most meaningful irony was the sizzling Nicks-Crow encore of Led Zeppelin’s 1971 hit “Rock ’n’ Roll.”

Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant was just a few miles away at the Auditorium Theater reinventing himself with his country-rock Band of Joy. With the exception of a couple of songs from Nicks’ upcoming “In Your Dreams” album, Nicks and Stewart sang their hits note for note as the originals. Fans loudly sang along to the slow songs.

Nothing is as familiar as a memory.

In all their debauchery and grit, the Faces were my favorite rock ’n’ roll band growing up. They inspired bands like the Black Crowes and Georgia Satellites. But I gave up on Stewart after his underrated 1975 “Atlantic Crossing” record. On Saturday he sacked his best-selling “Great American Songbook” series and stuck to honest covers from his own songbook. After spending the afternoon watching soccer at the Globe Pub, he paid homage to Chicago soul legend Sam Cooke by covering “Twistin’ The Night Away” (a Faces standard) and “Having a Party.”

Stewart, 66, moved the crowd with a picture of his seven-week-old son before launching into an anthemic “Forever Young.” Like Plant, Stewart can’t hit the emotive high notes of rock ’n’ roll, especially after his 2000 bout with thyroid cancer. His sandpaper voice still wears well on ballads and mid-tempo numbers. He slogged through “Some Guys Have All The Luck” as a roulette wheel with photos of Robert Palmer spun on the background stage. Stewart found time for a mandolin-driven version of “Maggie May” and closed his polished 95-minute set with “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy,” which is even more stupid now that Stewart is a sexagenarian. If this is the last time I see Stewart in concert, it is deeply unfortunate this was my final song.

Nicks?

She sorta gave me the creeps.

She twirled around in a long black gypsy dress and shawl, at one point wearing dominatrix-like black gloves with tassles. That nasally voice is hard to take in long doses. Fronting a nine-piece band, Nicks opened with “Stand Back” and hit a classic-rock crest with “Edge of Seventeen.” Set against menacing trap drums, the direct, elongated lead guitar riff was delivered by Waddy Wachtel, who cut his 1970s chops with Jackson Browne and Warren Zevon. Wachtel’s been working with Nicks since her 1981 “Bella Donna” release.

An adventurous, musically spontaneous evening could have inspired a final number with Nicks, Stewart and Crow in tow. It was not to be. Like a revue on the Las Vegas strip, this was a money grab. Towards the end of his set, Stewart smiled and said, “Thank you for your time ... and money.” So much for heart and soul.

Rod Stewart & Stevie Nicks live!
Illinois Entertainer | Apr 11, 2011 |

Even if Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks don’t seem like the most obvious tourmates, their careers actually share several parallels. For starters, each found fame with an influential group, with Stewart fronting British rockers Faces from 1969 to 1975 and Nicks co-leading Fleetwood Mac since ‘75. From there, each rocketed to international stardom, reinventing themselves to mirror the changing musical landscapes throughout the ’80s and ’90s, though, coincidentally, neither has released an original studio album since 2001 (though that’s all about to change in the case of Nicks, who drops In Your Dreams on May 3rd).

Given his elder statesmen status, it was only natural for Stewart to close Saturday evening’s United Center spectacle, which unveiled several shades of his chameleon-like personality. Considering it’s no surprise he loves old-school soul, the orange (and later purple) spot coat-clad crooner tipped his hat to The O’Jays with a rousing rendition of “Love Train,” amplified by a 10-piece band and three backing vocalists.

His softer side crept in next come the smoky retro ballad, “Tonight’s The Night (Gonna Be Alright),” though he quickly settled back into R&B’s golden era channeling Chicago native Sam Cooke on “Havin’ A Party.” Though it seemed like Nicks had just wrapped up her portion of the performance, she was back to duet with Stewart on his keyboard-infused oldie “Passion,” but since it wasn’t originally designed to be a duet, the pairing came across awkward and forced. Even worse was Stewart croaking his way through Don Henley’s normally smooth support on Nicks’ tender “Leather And Lace.”

Following that partnership, he continued struggling to hit the high notes on many other ballads, including Cat Stevens’ “The First Cut Is The Deepest,” Tom Waits’ “Downtown Train,” and Van Morrison’s “Have I Told You Lately.” Even though that latter tune’s since become one of Stewart’s most celebrated staples, the hushed arrangement made him sound all the more laborious behind the mic.

Thankfully that wasn’t the case on gravelly rock ‘n’ rollers like “Forever Young” (and even at 66, he still looks it) or the fierce and lusty “Hot Legs” (when he kicked at least two dozen autographed soccer balls into the stands). Additional covers like Cooke’s “Twistin’ The Night Away” and Chuck Berry’s “Sweet Little Rock & Roller” were perfect matches for his weathered register and he interjected boundless energy and charisma into both. “Maggie May” also served a sweet morsel of mandolin-infused nostalgia and would’ve been a suitable closer, but the obligatory (though now downright ridiculous) disco ditty “Do You Think I’m Sexy?” served as Stewart’s final inquiry.

At 62, Nicks still sings like a woman half her age and commands plenty of cheers as she twirls with her laced-garnished shawl at full speed. Such was the case during the throbbing opener “Stand Back,” which earned a recent resurgence as a remix on the dance charts and kicked off the affair oozing with ominous attitude. Solo favorites like “If Anyone Falls” and “Sorcerer” were juxtaposed with the enchanting new cut “Secret Love” and four Fleetwood warhorses. Even if “Dreams,” “Gold Dust Woman” and “Rhiannon” missed the group’s unmistakable harmonies, “Landslide” benefited from a surprise appearance by a shimmering Sheryl Crow, a longtime protégé of Nicks’ in town to join her for an “Oprah Winfrey Show” taping.

“Edge Of Seventeen” turned the tides back to Nicks’ solo career and, aside from an indulgent and excessively long guitar-charged introduction, it’s a bona-fide classic that hasn’t sounded this hot since Destiny’s Child sampled it a decade ago. Comparatively speaking, the sentimental, barebones finale “Love Is” was underwhelming, but it once again showcased her status as one of rock’s most distinctive voices.

OUCH! Sounds like he really didn't want to be at the concert to review it. :distress:

Stevie Nicks brought her "Heart and Soul" tour to the United Center over the weekend as well as a couple musical pals—namely, Rod Stewart ( who's co-headlining ) and Sheryl Crow.

Stewart announced her arrival to a mountain of fans that reached up to section 300 in the rafters. She has played in more intimate settings in the past such as Charter One Pavilion but on this double bill tour fans were forced to "Stand Back." Nicks featured new material, such as "Secret Love," along with past hits "If Anyone Falls" and Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams." The performer can still twirl these days and closed her set with "Edge of Seventeen." She later returned to stage to add to Stewart's "Young Turks." The night brought friends together in the venue as Sheryl Crow surprised fans by singing "Landslide" as a duet and also helped out on "Sorcerer."

Nicks filmed the Oprah Winfrey show the day before; is releasing a new album; and plans to play smaller venues, where her followers can be more up close and personal.
