Hey All,

I’m currently in the planning stages of making a new play list of great cover songs that I love. I have only women artists so far and I may end up making it just women but I want to know what are some of your favorite covers? Not a song that is sampling another song but an actual cover. Any artist or band. So far I have:

Colbie Caillat / Maria (Blondie)
Corinne Bailey Rae / I Wanna Be Your Lover (Prince)
Chaka / Everywhere (Fleetwood Mac)
Jennifer Lopez / You Belong To Me (Doobie Brothers or Carly Simon – I forget who did it first)
Tina Turner / Missing You (John Waite)
Sophie Ellis-Bextor / Take Me Home (Cher)

Did she? I know she did Rocket Man but I didn't know about Candle InThe Wind... Rocket Man is on the Two Rooms Elton tribute album.

Oh and Travis - have you seen Kylie's version of There Must Be An Angel (Playing With My Heart) from the Aphrodite tour? It's a LOT of fun!!

I read that she is doing it but I have not heard any clips of it yet. Speaking of Kylie, her song "Nothing Is Gonna Stop Us Now", that is a cover right? Didn't the group Saint Etienne do it first?

Dodfather
04-07-2011, 09:47 AM
Yep - it's a Saint Etienne cover. She also did a Duran Duran cover 9The Reflex I think) with someone for a Duran Duran tribute album. I'm not especially keen on Nothing Can Stop Us Now if I'm honest, but it's far better than her terrible attempt at Should I Stay Or Should I Go! No, Kylie, no!

Oh her version of There Must Be An Abngel is fantastic!! I was right at the front, by the barrier, as she did it. I must tell you all about the Aphrodite gig...

I also forgot:

Lacuna Coil - Enjoy The Silence (Depeche Mode)
Rosanne Cash - Hometown Blues (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers)

Some of my favourites...

Rumer - Goodbye Girl (Bread)
Adam Lambert - Feeling Good (Leslie Bricusse / Anthony Newley)
Johnny Cash - Ring of Fire (Anita Carter)
Hanoi Rocks - Up Around The Bend (Creedence Clearwater Revival)
Heart / Harry Nilsson - Without You (Badfinger)
Jeff Buckley - That's All I Ask (Nina Simone)
Paul Gilbert - 2 Become 1 (Spice Girls)
Pearl Jam - Love Reign O'er Me (The Who)
John Farnham - Help! (The Beatles)

Just some of my favourites... :wavey:

Many disagree, but I think Tori Amos' cover of Steely Dan's Do It Again is brilliant.

I am also very fond of James Morrison's cover of Michael Jackson's Man In The Mirror

Siouxsie's cover of Billie Holliday's Strange Fruit, and her cover of Iggy Pop's The Passenger are also great!

This song is pretty much an embarassing guilty pleasure of mine. It has to be at the right setting, of course; when it's bright and warm out and you can think nothing of dancing around the street :)
