Hi all,
I could use everybody's Stevie expertise on with a project. My band is making some recordings right now, and I want to explain to our singer how I want her to do some harmonies with herself. I've noticed this is something Stevie does a lot - she records herself (or someone else) singing the same thing twice, and the double vocal enriches the song a lot! So what I want to do is edit together a series of clips of Stevie's most stellar harmonies to play for the rest of our band to get them on board. That's where I need help - what do you think are Stevie's best harmonies (with herself or someone else harmonzing with her)? One example that comes to mind is Macy's harmonies all through Bombay Sapphires, *especially* the beautiful highlight above Stevie on "caaaall of the wild."

Another example is this amazing version of Mistaken Love: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIjtcYpTd9k&feature=related

Of course, this is a thing I think about all the time but now that I'm sitting down to work on it I can't think of any more examples.

So - any opinions on the most gorgeous of our lady's vocal arrangements?

Her toughest harmonies are the third verse/chorus of studio Rhiannon. I really like the ones on Leather and Lace, Farmer's Daughter, Trouble In Shangri-La, Think About It (Rumours Disc 2 version), Sweet Girl (Enchanted box set version), Second Hand News too.

Ooh My Love and Blue Denim have that full enrich sound you mention especially during the chorus’ when she sings over top of her backing vocals. Also the bridge part in Blue Denim ... the "understand me, understanding you ..." part.

Actually, the best example of self-harmony for me comes from a Ugandan singer, Samite. If you go to this page: http://www.samite.com/streaming-media/streaming-media/
Scroll down to "Audio: Live on eTown" and listen to "Ndere". He uses an Echoplex to record his vocals and then continues to layer them live as he adds harmonies. It's incredible.

I hadn't heard this version until tonight - but I think it applies

Thanks for the great suggestions, everyone! I ended up splicing together different versions of After the Glitter Fades, Bombay Sapphires, Rhiannon, Think About It, and Sweet Girl. It was fun to pay a new level of close attention to these songs I've heard a million times! The harmonies really are amazing.
