Top Ten Favorite Stevie Nicks SOLO Songs

[TrueFaith77]

thought this would be fun for everyone to post their favorite Stevie Nicks solo songs PRIOR to the release of In Your Dreams, to help see where the new songs might stack up. BN songs don't count, I don't think (or should they?) but Twisted/Soldier's Angel will count... as would Leather and Lace, etc.

ETA: Unreleased demos don't count ;)

[Artemis]

Not gonna include demos, or this could be a very long list;

My top ten favourites RIGHT NOW (since this is pretty much ever changing) In no particular order;

Sable on Blond
How Still My Love
Battle of the Dragon
No Spoken Word
Trouble in Shangri-La
Ghosts
Whole Lotta Trouble
Nothing Ever Changes
The Highwayman
Stand Back

I can't do a top ten of all time, it's too hard! Those are the ones I'm listening to and enjoying the most at this current time, though.

[mezzoforte]

In no particular order:

I Sing for the Things
Sable on Blond
Sister Honey
Edge of Seventeen
Rooms on Fire
Twisted
If You Ever Did Believe
Imperial Hotel
Love is Like a River
Violet and Blue

[louielouie2000]

Why would Soldier's Angel be included, by the way? Or did you mean Desert Angel?

Bombay Sapphires
Outside The Rain
No Spoken Word
How Still My Love
Rock A Little
Battle Of The Dragon
The Nightmare
Blue Denim
Sable On Blond
Touched By An Angel

Boy that was tough... I'm a way bigger fan of Stevie's songs within Fleetwood Mac vs her solo career.

[tabruns]

Rooms On Fire
Stand Back
Planets Of The Universe
Talk To Me
Stop Dragging My Heart Around
Trouble In Shangri-La
Edge Of Seventeen
Twisted
Reconsider Me
Sleeping Angel

I feel like "Moonlight" has a really good shot at becoming a new favorite, possibly "Italian Summer" as well.

(And if I could choose a BN song...Long Distance Winner)

what is that?

[StevieRox81]

what is that?

The extended version was on the remix single :) I love the additional lyrics:

You will remember
But I will die a slow death
It's only an overture
To something that was best
And don't condescend to me
Take your leave
Take your leave
Take your leave of me now
Disappear into the air
I wish you gone
And I don't care
I don't care
I don't care
Take your leave of me now

You will never love again
The way you love me
You will never rule again
The way you ruled me
You will never change again
The way you're changing

i'm so happy to see Candlebright popping up on a few other peoples lists!!:xoxo:
back when i used to lurk and just read threads ... part of the reason was so many people just BASHED songs i love... and i didn't want to be jumped all over...which i saw happen..especially with Candlebright.. people saying Sheryl ruined the song...blah blah blah... so YAY to all of you who like Candlebright!!

[Spoinny]

I love Candlebright (especially the music) and all of the collaborations with Sheryl. Really can't see as to why some posters can't stand her so much.

I agree, TISL is my favorite album ever and I think Sheryl is amazing on it. I do find myself listening to Nomad more, mostly for Stevie's great vocal. Plus, "I am something of a dreamer" is just such a classic Stevie line

[KarmaContestant]

He says to her..."Why do you do it?"
She says to him..."WHY DO YOU STAY?!"

One of my favorite Stevie lyrics ever. EVER.

[Japhry]

I love Candlebright (especially the music) and all of the collaborations with Sheryl. Really can't see as to why some posters can't stand her so much.

I Loooove Candlebright, should have been a single and performed live. She did a rough version of that song with Lindsey In Buck/Nicks as "Nomad" even before fleetwood mac. You have great Stevie music taste Spoinny.

[mitzo]

I like Candlebright too, but the first half of the song drags and sounds dreary - it really picks up when the orchestral part kicks in with the layered vocals - that is Sheryl's best production on TISL.

You know, even though people piss and moan around here about Stevie doing covers and co-writes and what not. Every once in a while I'll pull out "Talk To Me" , as I did this weekend - blaring in on the highway driving along. And I'm always struck at how truly brilliant and stunning her vocal is on this track. Pure pop perfection!

I must admit, I prefer Imperial Hotel as my #1 Rock A Little track.
Speaking of brilliant vocals, Imperial Hotel is crazy in all the right places. Great song. And though some dismiss the "dated" production of RAL, it's her most consistent collection of pop/rock songs that could have truly been great singles.

I love "Imperial Hotel". To me, "The Nightmare" and "Some Become Strangers" are 2 of the worst songs Stevie has ever recorded. I have switched them with "One More Big Time Rock And Roll Star" and "Mirror Mirror" on my playlist.

My standard answer: "I could never pick a favorite. That's like picking a favorite child".

 I agree. I try to steer away from making lists like this anymore. Besides having far too many great songs to choose from, songs come and go into rotation depending on my every changing moods, and as such, my favorites change All The Time.
But, I'm most definitely sure with new material on the horizon in a few weeks, with many new songs to obsess about - I'll have a bunch of new favorites.:)

Sleeping Angel

9. Edge of Seventeen
10. Trouble in Shangri-la

Gosh that was hard....As i'm not too keen on solo Stevie....And the songs I like from her solo cannon are limited. But i like a challenge.

Even though it's a cover it's one of my favorites too and if I were to list my favorite covers it would probably be #1. I love her version soooo much!!

[markolas]

This could (and probably will) change, but as it stands now, and in no particular order:

1. How Still My Love
2. Edge of Seventeen
3. Outside the Rain
4. Violet & Blue

3. Outside the Rain
4. Moonlight
5. Annabel Lee
6. The Nightmare

Then:

In no particular order:

5: Battle Of The Dragon
6: Doing The Best That I Can
7: Rock A Little

10: Mirror Mirror

New List, our girl is a songwriting genius, so many great songs, & difficult to narrow it down to 10
#1 Moonlight, esp the resent piano version
#2 Mirror Mirror, unreleased demo version
#3 Wild Sargasso Sea
#4 TISL
#5 Gold Dust Woman The Dance
#6 Fireflies
#7 Sister Honey
#8 Wild Heart
#9 Planets Of The Universe
#10 New Orleans

[Fiver]

1) Sleeping Angel
2) Edge of Seventeen
3) Think About It
4) The Highwayman
5) How Still My Love
6) Outside The Rain
7) After the Glitter Fades
8) Trouble in Shangri-La
9) Gold and Braid
10) Wild Heart

Interesting to look back on, even though it's only been six months. My list is pretty unchanged:

1) Sleeping Angel
2) Edge of Seventeen
3) The Highwayman
4) Bella Donna
5) Outside The Rain
6) How Still My Love
7) You May Be the One
8) Trouble in Shangri-La

Almost put Planets of the Universe on here, but I really only listen to the demo version on the expanded Rumours, so I guess that'd count for FM? It'd top the list otherwise.

Sister honey
;) I adore that song as well. I know it's not many people's favorites but it's just so fun. "FAST like a jet plane, FAST like a star stream. She'll hit you with a fury, whispering the words one more time." LOVE that.:]

yes, that's the line that got me when I first heard it and it still gets me!

[PolishStevieFan]

I forgot about "Sister Honey". Such a great song. It should have been released as a single back in 1986 and I'm sure that it would end up at least in Top 20. There's something familiar in this song. I remember that I played "Sister Honey" for my friends and even though it was their first listen they swore they had heard it before because it sounds like some great 80's hit singles. Kind of missed opportunity:(
