I'd venture to guess this might be her last solo album of original material. I'm sure we're in for another greatest hits album in our future and/or some sort of standards covers. Which could be cool. Still love listening to her belt out At Last.

I voted no, because we have no idea. I remember several years ago I asked if Stevie would ever tour again solo (this was before I had seen her) and more people than not said her touring solo headlining days were done. So we really have no idea. :)

I really hope not but if I got one more FM album I'd be ok. I got in this game kind of late (becoming a fan about 10-12 years ago) and I'm happy with what I get. With all the hype this album is creating I've got a feeling this is going to be a great year for us fans.

I believe that this will be the last Stevie Nicks album proper .It is probably 50/50 that there will be another Fleetwood Mac album of all new material .If so that will be their last as well IMO.

I tend to think that if it bombs, she'll not record anymore. At least not original material. But if the album either is a commercial success or if she lands a Grammy for it, she might just keep on recording. In fact, if the album wins a Grammy and it doesn't do too badly on the charts, she might just be empowered by the situation and decided to become more active. However if it bombs and she receives no industry recognition, we might as well give up.

Agreed! I don't think Stevie sees this as being her last album, so I think it depends on what happens with the album that will determine her recording future. If the album bombs and she gets no recognition, then this will confirm her fears of the internet ruining the music industry and she will have no motivation to release any new material. However, if it is successful, I think it will restore her faith in the industry and she may put another one out somewhere down the line. Another thing that will play a key role in it is what she does to keep busy for the next few years.

Dave has already brought it too Stevie's attention that they only have recorded a few of her poems and that she never has to write another song. I'm sure that was hint for them to work together some more. He appreciates her and seems to get her. The only way I think she'll record another album is if he convinces her too.
By the way, I said to this poll, but if Dave tours with Stevie I cannot see them NOT writing songs during the tour.

I fear you may just be right. I keep hoping this whole positive experience will stir Stevie's creative juices and keep her going, though.

We haven't heard Dave talk about that in a long time... and I don't think we've ever heard anything from Stevie about them touring together. My guess is Stevie's management axed that idea :(.

I think Stevie would have something to say about that. She didn't listen to management when she made this new album.

I'm going to say 'no'. I just have a feeling that, as long as things stay happy with Dave, she may well do it again, and much sooner than you'd think.
As someone said, she's learning that there's more than one way to do things, and changing your creative habits can be massively energising. My sincere hope is that what we are seeing is just the beginning of a slow dismantling of some of Stevie's self-imposed limitations.
Dave, bless him, needs to keep chipping away at her (so to speak).

No, I reckon if it's a critical success, she'll make another one. Commercial success would be the icing on the cake, for Stevie; I think.
Although, if she does another album so soon, it wouldn't chart as well, I would think. I'm expecting IYD to chart so high because of the whole "ten years" thing.
Even if Stevie doesn't personally make a new Studio album, she has loads of unreleased materials that could be comprised into several albums. Her record company could always clean them up for a quick cash-grab.

Well I have a feeling this album will be a good one.....going by Stevie's excitement alone. If it flops....I don't know. Most older acts don't know when to quit. I don't know about Stevie. Anyway. I voted no.

I am really, really puzzled by the people who assume this is her last solo album. What is that based on? The fact that she is busier than ever as a working musician? The fact that she still loves to write songs? The fact that she turned her house into a recording studio? The fact that she has never mentioned the prospect of retiring? The fact that she still appears to be in excellent health? I recall as far back as 2005 that people were saying that she was done. Yes, it's been a long time since her last solo album. But the fact remains that she has never really stopped working in all that time. She resisted recording new music because of the state of the music industry, not because she was creatively bankrupt or tired of doing it. Now that she has accepted the state of the music industry for what it is, she can resume doing what she loves again in earnest. She is probably as disappointed that ten years has passed as the rest of us.

Stevie is also probably a little disappointed that she let the opportunity pass her by and not hook up with Dave Stewart professionally sooner. But, I always believe things happen for a reason. It was all meant to be as is. And the fact that they have finally joined creative forces after over 25 yrs. passing since meeting...as they say, is destiny.
As far as being her last solo recording, arguments can be made for IYD being a success or a failure to continue recording. If it's a success - she may be catapulted, re-energized and get a big boost of confidence to capitalize on Dave'e statement to her about having all those songs left to record and not waste much time next outing. If it's a failure, I have a hard time thinking Stevie would want her last solo album to be a stinker and go unnoticed, So I can also see her dusting off her chops, one more time, for another ambitious solo album, maybe even finally release her Rhiannon songs on record. Bottom line is anything can happen at this juncture in her career. I'd venture she has at least another 4-7 years *gulp* before she retires, barring health problems, and she is going to make the most of this precious time. Needless to say, I vote no.

I really don't know. A couple of years ago, I would've said that TISL was her last one. It seemed like she was not interested in recording again at all. I think it will probably depend on how this whole experience ends up for her (after the release date, tour, media appearances, etc.). She obviously really enjoyed making the album, so if it's well-received critically & by the fans (whether it sells a million copies or 100,000) and the tour is positive experience for her, I think she may well make another one.

I believe that Stevie will either go in 3 different directions from here for the rest of her existence...
1. She doesn't tour anymore but still records new songs/albums to feed her creative juices. Maybe she'll just release songs here and there via itunes or whatever to generate some money. Maybe she'll do a couple shows a year. (Wishful thinking I know but you never know)
2. She doesn't do anymore albums and just tours at casinos and fairgrounds and what have you until she's tired of it.
3. She does the FM album and tour and retires...working on her Rhiannon movie, art, maybe releasing some books with her journal pages/poetry...she really does have a number of options outside of music that can keep her somewhat relevant. Grace Slick retired and got an art gallery going.
But as she said before:
"If you can't rock 'n roll...you're old."

I also feel that if she or FM retires they would make it official with a farewell tour and everything else. Maybe not.

It's obvious that she was depressed about Shangri-La because of 9/11
Now that it's 2011 (10 years later) maybe she will look at this as her solo career picking up again from where it left off back in 2001 (album wise) - this will give her a chance to refresh and restart.

Being the eternal Stevie optimist that I am I hate to admit this but I voted yes. Simply for the fact that she is 62 and I know for a fact it takes a lot both physically and mentally to promote and album let alone tour and realistically I don't see her doing it at 70. With that said I absolutely think there will be one more FM album with a supporting tour and totally think she'll still be infultrating us with her art but not in the form of a new released solo album.

^Yeah, I don't think she would "quit" even if it is her last solo album. I definitely think she'll do another Mac record. But, I do think she would be very concerned with going out with a bang, rather than a wimper. This would be the time. She's getting attention, airplay, media exposure.

I voted no, but you make really valid points. Sometime I wonder how Stevie does it at her age now. All this pre-promotion and post promotion, and the recording industry as it is today, you would have to have nerves of steel:shocked: More than anything, I really want to see one more FM record. So if Stevie just utilizes Dave Stewart for some more magical collaborations and songcraft, and Lindsey agree's to an outside producer (esp. if it's Dave), I'd personally be satisfied, and can also see that being the last of an all out presentation of original material. Afterwards, maybe Stevie would do a standards record, or drip out a song or two here and there on a soundtrack or via Itunes. But not do the whole circus that is required in promoting an album properly.

I can't see Stevie stop working until she drops dead. I don't see her as someone who can just hang it up and retire to a sedate life. That's what would kill her. She might par down her road warrior tendencies, but I think that she feels she has a lot more to accomplish, and intends to work in a more expedient manner, to get things done in shorter time frame. Dave Stewart's creative process might have had a big impact on her.

If she can negotiate a new album contract, then she'll release more material. I wonder how Reprise feels about her as a commercial artist today. I'd imagine she's fostered a pretty good relationship with the people who matter.
I think the record deal is the main reason why the Fleetwood Mac album is being held up. Do they even have a label? There's no way that Stevie's going to participate in an independently-released album. If the band's smart, they'll negotiate a deal with Live Nation to release the album.

Why is there an assumption that if an album doesn't meet sales expectations -- aka "bombs" -- that an artist like Stevie loses the motivation to make another one? If that was the case, Lindsey and Stevie would have quit soon after the Buckingham Nicks album. The entertainment industry - movies, TV show, plays, records, books etc - is fraught with many established artists, actors, writers and producers etc, who have had bombs. It's almost inevitable if you've been in the industry for a long time; it's par for the course. True artists just brush it off and move on.

Surely losing money on a project and at the same time watching sales dwindle steadily over time will make most bigtime performers/recording artists a bit leery of bothering to record anymore?
|One thing with Stevie is that she seems to like to travel and tour. But that gets exhausting, and even then the crowds thin out over time.
I think recording and combining that with some innovative ideas like the IYD doc or the Polaroid selfies sales is best.

And whose sales expectations? What fans, Stevie, and the record label want her albums to sell are all different. Personally, I think expecting her albums to sell 500,000 copies today is unrealistic. A lot of us are stuck in sales figures from 10-15 years ago. She is a legacy artist, not Taylor Swift, which basically means she's already hit all the career benchmarks. If she sells 100,000 copies of anything, we should be pleased.

Sometimes I wonder if Stevie Nicks is still writing. Maybe she has writer's block. That would explain why she chose to release an album of old songs. It would also explain why she isn't on board for a Fleetwood Mac album - because she doesn't have anything ready to contribute.

Why the misinterpretation? It's rather simplistic: I am not referring to a specific amount units sold. When artists put their work on the market, one would assume that they hope that it connects with the public and is successful as well, since that is one way they earn their living. Isn't that hope an expectation?
Another point, music is a business. Record companies invest in the artists and fund their product. They prefer to have their investment be profitable; they don't want to loose money. Isn't that an expectation?

She certainly has a lot of other demos that have so much potential. She did make a comment about the potential for another album of similar nature.
However, I suspect she has a stash of poems and things that she has written in the past recent years that are also potential songs in waiting. Why would those not be considered a true dose of Stevie?
Mining the past for abandoned gems is fine and respectable. As an artist, I would hope she would still have the inspiration for creating brand new songs. In Your Dreams had some great new "classic" songs.
