03-28-2011, 09:19 AM
I really don't think it's her. I think they came up with this bonkers persona so that Stevie has deniability when she gets asked a gazillion times over the next month 'So I see you're on Twitter? I thought you hated all that?' And she can go, 'Well, that's not me. That's my assistant, Karen, and anyway we're only doing it to shift units, which is why you'll observe that what we tweet is vacuous and demented. We don't believe in it. We don't think we can, y'know, build any actual relationships this way with, for example, my fans. Oh no. And anyway, your hair's on fire and I really have to ...' **grabs handbag and scarpers**

I am not a tweeting expert. I have replied to her several times and yet, it has never shown up on the main page. In a way, it's kind of creepy-strange what they have done, and very cool.

It is not actually Stevie Nicks, nor her personal assistant.
If a said celebrity is the one actually doing the tweeting - there is a "blue authentification" checkmark on the main twitter page and it will say verified account.
Look at twitter.com/charliesheen.
Celebrities who endorse or use twitter whether it be them or their staff verify their accounts for legal reasons.

^^^ Twitter itself said last year that the absence of a verification stamp was not a reason to believe that an account was inauthentic. It strikes me that if this is Karen, then not asking for or even knowing about verification is entirely consistent with the SN camp's cluelessness about social media.
Interesting that the account's only follow is Dave Stewart, too. That's a cute touch, if it's really nothing to do with Stevie's people.

I've hear it takes forever to get verified. Probably the only reason they verified Charlie so quickly was because he got 2 million followers in like a week and they're making money off of that as well.

I will not believe that account is real until it's verified. Celebrity twitter accounts are given blue checkmarks when they have been officially cleared as a "real" account. Stevie's hasn't been yet, and her official YouTube station (http://www.youtube.com/stevienicks) advertises her Facebook and the NicksFix but NOT the Twitter.
I still think the person behind the account is in no way affiliated with Stevie.

I am going to be in minority and say that this is Stevie's doing or someone close to her. The first tweets started right at the time the sizzle reel was released. The cadence in all text is all very Stevie Nicks. If it is fake the person doing it needs to be strung up. I rather be a fool and believe than not.

This is for sure WB or someone in Stevie's camp. Do you guys really think the username "stevienicks" was available and just so happened to be updated and released the same time as her official YouTube and Facebook sites and someone managed to get the new background the same day as her youtube and facebook and are mentioned on the Nicks Fix, yet they are not legit?

I have no doubt that the Annabelle Lee is official. I just wish they had something pertanent to say. Sounds like a person tweeting to a group of five year old. We are much, much older than that. We don't need hand puppets or Annabelle Lee. I mean its endearing but that twitter acct is barely worth following.

Reasons to believe it's from SN's camp:
Timing of when it started
Link to the Nicks Fix
That it only follows Dave
The use of a persona that gives Stevie a way to say 'That's not me' in 'I hate the internet' mode
General air of not being properly thought through
Reasons to believe it's not from her:
It's not a verified account
So I'll say it again: Twitter itself says absence of verification doesn't mean an account is fake, it can take ages to happen (and costs money), and last of all, these people don't have a clue what the hell they're doing or how to use this thing properly.
I 'do' Twitter and I don't like this account at all. It's juvenile and half-engaged. It also bugs me hugely that it doesn't even follow half a dozen accounts that have been doing Stevie's PR for free out of nothing but love for the best part of a year (they know who they are, but I can list them for anyone who's interested).
Such a shame Stevie dug herself this Internet-hating pigeonhole that means she has to eat humble pie if she tries to now use it properly. Gah.

Twitter is *very* on top of their accounts when it comes to celebrity users.
If it's not a verified account, it's probably no where remotely linked to the Stevie Nicks camp.
They have a whole department of staffers which "takes care of this."
jellyman10
03-29-2011, 05:11 AM
^^^ That's kind of half-true. They're 'on top' of celebrities whose entry onto Twitter causes a stir. That doesn't really apply to SN. And I promise you, there was definitely an account being run by someone from Warners a month or so ago (I'm not sure if this is the same one) and that wasn't verified either. We had the woman's name and even a photo. She was, as people have said, a communities manager.
So that was definitely related to Stevie's camp and definitely not a verified account. It happened. ;)
Edit: This is what I think they call 'the clincher': please go check for a verification stamp on @davestewart ..... Go on. :p

I agree with this. Whoever is running it obviously doesn't understand the way that twitter can work to promote beyond one's typical fanbase. Question 106 - from Ryan M. in Vancouver:
Dear Stevie,
Are there any plans to re-release your solo albums in a manner similar to the Fleetwood Mac reissues; that is, remastered with extra tracks? Maybe (another) box set?
Thank you and best wishes,
Ryan M.

Everybody's going to say yes, but I question if it was the album she disliked so much or just the tour. There was some disagreement towards the end of the recording but it was never really made public knowledge what it was about - and it wasn't the SnL "fight" that was on DR.

I don't remember reading any of that. Can somebody point me to some interviews? I'd love to hear what she said about it.
"Little surprise, then, that she feels no pressure to produce new material. "It's like, does it really matter at this point?" she says when asked if she is working on a follow-up to her last solo album, 2001's Trouble In Shangri-La. "Do people really want to hear a whole other solo record, when you can get one or two songs for I-Tunes? I'm thinking about a way you could just put out a few songs once in a while, maybe four songs that you loved, instead of having to figure out 16 songs, many of which you might not love."
The singer could be making a backhanded reference to Say You Will, the 2003 Fleetwood Mac album that Nicks recorded without long-time ally and confidante Christine McVie, who left the band in 1998 in favor of a quiet life in London. Originally conceived as a Lindsey Buckingham solo project, Say You Will came to resemble two separate albums awkwardly squashed together, with nine songs apiece from Buckingham and Nicks alternating in strict succession.
"I'd be totally lying if I said that record is what I wanted, because it isn't," she says. "I argued with Lindsey all the way through it, and he argued with me. It wasn't very much fun, and I wasn't that pleased with the music. I felt my demos were better, which of course is easy to say, but I did. And what can I say? It wasn't a lot of fun."
It seems that almost 30 years after the end of her romantic relationship with Buckingham there's still tension. But you would never have known it in February 2004, at the Melbourne show of the 135-date Say You Will tour. Buckingham kissed Nicks' hand several times during the show, while she draped her arms tenderly over his shoulders as he played guitar.
According to Nicks, that tenderness, like her witchy lyrics, was just for show. "We are extremely professional, and when we get up there on the stage we get lost on the fun parts of the show," she explains. "So it's never going to show anything bad, because we're always going to rise above and concentrate on the good things."
I'm not sure how to post a link but this is from an interview with an Austrailian paper in 2006 .

I wish she would act creatively as she talks here. No other artists have experimented with this--I'm so proud of her for saying it, but now she needs to do it (preferably with the Mac btw). She/they really could/should. I have some ideas actually that I'm thinking of sending to Dave Stewart, actually, along these lines--was thinking about it all day.
The singer could be making a backhanded reference to Say You Will, the 2003 Fleetwood Mac album that Nicks recorded without long-time ally and confidante Christine McVie, who left the band in 1998 in favor of a quiet life in London. This writer is a moron.
It's tough. I think the album works as a whole. I think it's a masterpiece--the best work (as a whole) the duo has done (solo or together) since Tusk. However, I also can see that it didn't reflect her sensibility or the sensibilities that they might share, if any. It really isn't her kinda thing. In other words: I want Lindsey, next time he works with her, to aim for PRETTY. Nobody does pretty like Lindsey Buckingham--surely Stevie knows it.
It seems that almost 30 years after the end of her romantic relationship with Buckingham there's still tension. Interesting that the "journalist" summarizes the quote following the summary as evidence that it's "just for show." Whereas Stevie suggests that their professionalism allows them ability to concentrate on the good things. That there are "good things," "professionalism" means that it's not just for show--it's who they are.

Yes, I know they had a fight at the end of the tour and it wasn't about the album. But she wasn't too happy about the album from the beginning and that's when Lindsey said that she never thanked him, because she kept talking about it in less than enthusiastic fashion. Even when she "thanked" him for working so hard on it, I got the impression she felt half-hearted and realized that he put a lot of work into it, though the finished result was not her cup of tea.
I don't think she was miserable the whole tour. There was a stretch there during the tour where they were doing interviews that were quite lovey dovey. Then, the tour ended and they were mad at each other, for reasons that have never been explained.
But I definitely don't think they were fighting the entire tour. Things started a little grumpy. Then they seemed friendly and then it ended badly, for whatever reason and no, I don't think it's because she was still mad about SYW.

After that you returned to Fleetwood Mac yet again. How do you look back on the making of Say You Will [2003]?
On Feb. 2, 2002, I went straight from the Trouble in Shangri-La tour into recording with them. It was nightmare doing that record. It really was Lindsey’s vision, and it wasn’t very much about the other three of us. And of course it was also the first record we had ever attempted to do without Christine [McVie, who left the band in the late 1990s]. Right there, the whole thing was completely insane. She is the magic mediator in that band and always was. She’s the one who made light of everything and made everybody laugh and told us all that were full of ****. She was the person who made it all work. So when she wasn’t there, that sunk the boat. I don’t think that my friend Chris ever realized how important she was. Without her, it’s a boy’s club. The lack of Christine is a big, hollow hole in my heart.
Would you be willing to attempt another record without her?
Absolutely not. Not in this lifetime. Why? We already tried, and it did not work. My thing is, somebody convince Christine to come back and do this one more time. I don’t think she’s going to change her mind, but stranger things have happened.

Exactly my point. I think there was something else going on.
I did think her bad-mouthing of SYW only started a year or so after the tour was over. In fact, when I asked Matt Baumann about her attitude during the recording and how she said she wasn't happy, he said he only had heard that later and even though there was a lot of negotiating, it seemed like he never got the impression she was that dissatisfied. I find it hard to believe she totally hated the music and yet went ahead with a release.

"I'd be totally lying if I said that record is what I wanted, because it isn't," she says. "I argued with Lindsey all the way through it, and he argued with me. TrueFaith nailed it. SYW as a whole did not represent Stevie's sensibilities. She begrudgingly went along with the rest of the band's musical direction. Following Lindsey's lead, they set out to push the envelope and purposely try not to sound like Fleetwood Mac, which literally came straight from the horse's mouths in the Destiny Rules doc when Stevie 1st arrives at the studio.
Lindsey mentioning in one pre-release interview that Stevie had yet to thank him for his work on her 'SYW' songs. He stated that she was "still seeing this album through dark colors."
Stevie was very cagey, almost seeming depressed upon SYW's release. I recall it was odd and jarring, set against Lindsey's excitement and practically foaming at the mouth adoration over SYW, especially when it came to his material on the album. In hindsight, Stevie was obviously still bruising over all the fights involved in making the record. Over song choices (Come, especially springs to mind), over the double vs single album & who would mix the final recordings, over the final sequencing of songs etc.. Stevie lobbied for and lost, or better yet she acquiesced to appease Lindsey, compromising her convictions, but keeping the peace. Whether or not people/fans will admit it wholly. Stevie's instincts were pretty dead on. While on one hand, as a fan, I'm thankful to have this record with all the songs, I have to admit deep down that the following songs: "Come" , "Murrow Turning Over In His Grave" or "Red Rover" and "Running Through The Garden" and "Everybody Finds Out" sound like solo songs and would have been better served up on solo records.

Without a doubt, Stevie holds the cards and another FM record will only happen if Lindsey agrees with Stevie's vision next time out:nod:. Primary on her short list is an outside producer/mediator, most likely Dave Stewart, or if anyone can magically get Christine to come out of retirement for one last record - which would be short of a miracle for that to happen. And secondly, if one more FM record is to be, Stevie clearly wants it to match her "sensibilities" next time around. Sounding more like the old Fleetwood Mac that she loves. I really hope it happens, but am not holding my breath.

Personally, I'd be quite happy with them trying a modern twist on their old sound, I still firmly believe that they have a fantastic album in them. They don't have to be trend-setting or totally out of the box. Sure, don't make it a rehash of your old works, but you don't need to alienate your fanbase either.

Following Lindsey's lead, they set out to push the envelope and purposely try not to sound like Fleetwood Mac, which literally came straight from the horse's mouths in the Destiny Rules doc when Stevie 1st arrives at the studio.
This is interesting, because there are some songs that do not sound like Fleetwood Mac songs....but then there are so many on Say You Will that sound exactly like Fleetwood Mac songs.

That one especially sounds like Fleetwood Mac.
I'd have to add:
Say You Will
Bleed To Love Her
Steal Your Heart Away
Say Goodbye
Silver Girl
Miranda
Thrown Down
Peacekeeper
Smile At You
Goodbye Baby
For me, the only ones that really don't sound like Fleetwood Mac are Murrow, Everybody Finds Out, Running Through The Garden, Red Rover and Come. The rest pretty much fit the sterotypical Fleetwood Mac sound and have elements of Tusk, Mirage and Tango throughout, and just seem to be missing Chris' harmonies.

If we're talking about Lindsey's songs too then I'd have to agree about Bleed To Love Her.

Honestly, SYW sounds like Buckingham Nicks where it's just the two of them swapping lead vocals and harmony vocals. I have no issue with that whatsoever. Mostly, I prefer it.
However, I think Sheryl Crow's vocals on a couple of the SYW tracks - Silver Girl, SYW were a "nice try" for the FM with Christine McVie sound. Again, I don't have a problem with the SYW album at all. I think it's an excellent project. It's really no different than the previous two Mac studio albums with Stevie and Lindsey - Mirage and Tango where they each (including Christine) had songs that were arguably solo songs.
Back on topic: New tweet says "Stevie’s on a treadmill singing along to “Vampire’s Dream” from her new record. She was inspired to write the song after she saw New Moon."

I did think her bad-mouthing of SYW only started a year or so after the tour was over.
She wasn't outright badmouthing SYW, but she was not over the moon about it either and that started in about May 2003 and Lindsey noticed and didn't like it.
But I don't think that ruined the tour. It was a long tour. I don't think it was a bad one for most of the time. They just had some kind of fight at the end.
Back in 2003, Stevie said a few times that SYW had some of the best songs she'd ever written, but I don't think she thought they were the best songs that Lindsey ever produced. Just the fact that she was saying in 2003 that she told him during recording that she'd been by herself for years now and she'd learned to do things on her own and "I don't need you to make my music come true anymore," led me to think she was unhappy with the production and the way he wouldn't listen to her and probably threw TISL in his face told him that she and Sheryl Crow were way better producers than he could ever be!
I am sure that she was "Lindsey Buckinghaming" him to death during that recording process. I just wonder if she ever throws in "Adams" too when she gets really angry.

Miranda always reminded me of a Tango in the Night cut.
And Miranda always sounded me like a song that Stevie should like.
In the same sense that SYW sounds like a Christine song, I felt that Miranda reminded me of something Stevie would favor.
I think at least half of the album sounds like FM. EFO does not sound like FM to me. It doesn't sound like BN either, but it sounds really good. A welcome departure from what I expected of them. I was surprised and delighted.

:laugh::laugh: If her hormones were swinging like she said, there is really no telling how she was feeling, when she was feeling it or what she might say to express those feelings... On top of her already unstable Gemini state of mind, I'm sure that it was a virtual roller coaster ride for sure!

Huh, I hadn't thought of that, but now you've said it... both of those make alot of sense. In that case, nobody can do Christine like Christine, but I really enjoy SYW (yep, don't even mind the children singing at the end), though it's so different to Stevie's usual style. Maybe that's why, it contrasts the rest of the material nicely.
I think I've read someone else here say this too, but alot of Lindsey's recent songs seem like something Stevie would like. He's alot more lyrically mysterious these days.

I don't agree with the complaint that the album doesn't sound enough like FM, because neither did parts of Tusk, Mirage or TITN, technically. Only the White FM album and Rumours had a unified sound to my ears. From Tusk on, it varied from track to track.
So, as much as I love the first two albums they made together, I welcome it too. Woulda got boring otherwise.

One of my favorite songs is “Italian Summer” – it’s sooooooooooo romantic, you may swoon.
Stevie said I better not give away her secrets but of course I will. But she may clip my wings.
You too may faint when you hear “In Your Dreams.” It’s that kind of record. Be warned.
