View Full Version : The House of the Rising Stevie

Is the house that is seen in the trailer the house they recorded the album in? I wonder if they just rented it for the year. It's so huge, with amazing views. Did they (Dave, Stevie and her gang) all live there during the entire year? Now that would be a reality show I would watch.

Initially, I thought that actually may be one of Stevie's houses. But it's so massive for one person. Yet, Stevie always seems to live with her girlfriends and hangers-on, sort of like a coven.

I have several friends who are extremely wealthy, and they tend to live in houses that are so much bigger than they need, with a lot of unused rooms. For me it's a really creepy feeling when you're only really living/spending time in a few select rooms, yet there are all these other vast unoccupied spaces. It's ghostly. Especially the echos.

It's Stevie's house. She owns a beach view condo 3 miles down the road because she felt after buying the house that it was too large for one person to live in, and it made her feel "old."

It's Stevie's Pacific Palisade's home. If I'm remembering correctly, she had it on the market for a while because it felt too much like a family house, but she took it off the market. It certainly made a wonderful setting for the video. I don't think they recorded the music there, though--I don't think she's mentioned having a recording studio in that home.
And certainly Dave was around a lot, but I've never gotten the sense that they were actually living together...I think they just rounded up Stevie's "people" at the house for the video.

They did record the album in her home... Stevie and Dave both mentioned it multiple times over this past year. There is even a pic Dave posted on Twitter some months back of Stevie's mic stand in the foyer with the mural and staircase, with the caption of "This is where Stevie records her vocals."

Stevie's owned that house for about 6 years now. She has recorded quite a few interviews there, usually with that mural under the staircase as the background. According to property records, she paid NINE MILLION DOLLARS for the place! It's no wonder she still owns it while only living 3 miles down the road in a smaller condo... she'd NEVER be able to unload that house for anywhere near what she paid for it at the height of the market.

Ah, sorry--I was definitely off there, then. Thanks, Louie!
Glad the house is at least serving a purpose, if she's keeping it for the time being.

I've been to the house and have taken pictures. Can I post them if I don't post the address? They're obviously just from the street and you can't really see anything.

I might PM you. I'm heading out to LA next month and wouldn't mind doing a drive by.

So although Sara said that Stevie still owned the house that I visited in the Palisades, Louie speculated that it could be a different one, in the same city but farther south. I've visited both, and from the roofing on the house in the video, I'd say that Louie could've been write all along.

They're in the same city but are very different properties. One is much more grand-- on top of a huge hill close to Malibu, unparalleled ocean views. The other is in a nice residential neighborhood but the house doesn't stand out at all-- it is gated, however. Both are.

I'm so curious now!

But the back of the house in the video doesn't look like her house in PP, I don't think. It's a totally different style and is facing the wrong direction.

If you compare the Bing Maps "birds eye view" shot of her Palisades house with the panoramic shot of the house used in the Italian Summer section of the sizzle reel, they're one and the same.

Really? I must have looked at the wrong house. I thought the PP house had a sort of normal looking back yard (http://la.curbed.com/archives/2007/12/celebrity_real_15.php)? And, that the front of the house would actually be facing the ocean.

The house. I've been to it-- it's all coming together for me. Weird.

Thanks, Dani. It's so strange to think that it's the same house as seen in the video. I mean, it looks like a Southern Colonial as it's been described from the front in the pics, but an Italian Renaissance from the back in the video...how beautiful, though! So cool you've been there!

That's how a lot of the waterfront properties are here. Your front yard usually faces the water and your backyard is what faces the road.

No wonder she never sold it. She bought it for 9 million and expected to sell it for 14 million just two years later?! WTF? 24.7% annual return Stevie? Really now?!

When was this photo taken? There is that 'dead ' tree in the back.

It's not dead... it's deciduous.

Check out the ''Italian Summer'' thread we got deep into Californian horticulture there.

Even down here some trees still know when it's winter and will shed leaves for a bit before blooming again. It just doesn't last as long as up north.

Same here... our leaves don't really fall until Christmas/New Years. Then they're back less than 3 months later. What's even more interesting are the live oaks. They keep their leaves throughout Fall and Winter, and then suddenly drop them all in the Spring! It looks like Fall outside my apartment right now because of that.

The point of my rambling is this: who knows what kind of crazy tree that is on Stevie's patio. My guess is that it's not dead, though. In fact, here it is... very much alive:

Yeah same here, the oaks and some other small trees lose their leaves at different times all fall and winter, like say, smaller trees in the middle of medians going down the road and stuff... but now those are back in bloom. Still, some of the bigger (Oak or Oak-like) trees will keep their leaves all year long I've noticed along with all that spanish moss hanging from them. Florida never really changes that much with the seasons but if you have a keen eye you'll notice subtle changes if you're paying close enough attention. Otherwise it looks the same pretty much all year. I can tell right now it's spring down here by the different wildflowers and smells and such so we do have subtle changes with the seasons if one notices.

That up there is a big ass house. It looks much larger than her former AZ home she had for years. I realize it's easier for work and everything, for her to stay in California but I liked her AZ home myself.

I'm also surprised as much as Stevie loves water and beautful things and homes, she doesn't keep a place down here in Miami or somewhere like a lot of stars do. You can't beat the tropical beauty of South Florida.
