Sorry to burst your bubble, but there's also like a 10-foot space between the stage and the barricade in front of the front row. A horrible setup  . At first I was like "WTF?" But now I know why it's there. Rod's fans. It's a man's world, alright. Rod, arguably one of the least attractive men I have ever seen (IMHO, of course), can work these old biddies up into a lather. You would think he was Brad Pitt based on their reaction. Without that barricade, the stage would be rushed every five minutes or it would be festooned with lots of size 12 granny panties.

Yikes...I had no idea he had such intense fans!I know a lot of his songs, but am not really a fan of his and am definitely going exclusively for Stevie. :D Tomorrow will definitely be...an experience!!!

I was crossing my fingers MSG might break the trend of the stage set up and we'd hear the walk is back tonight...but sadly, I think Rod is taking away our Edge of 17 tradition this tour ...I'm still not completely giving up hope yet...it sure will be weird watching Edge of 17 from my seat and not from the stage!!!

Guess I'll have to wait until The Borgata on May 6th for my next "Walk" opportunity! (Please no one tell me the stage is set up so she can't do the walk there either when she is solo...I will cry...haha)

Hello Ledgies! I have just returned home from the fabulous concert. Stevie was on fire tonight! None of the performances were phoned in. She genuinley looked like she was enjoying herself from start to finish. She was in constant motion. She was a woman who tried real hard to make her audience enjoy every song.

Before she sang Dreams she told us it was a song she had been performing since joining FM in 1975 and that if we didn't know it, then it would be a new song for us. It was adorable when she screwed up the words in the beginning of Dreams. I could see Waddy and Al laughing at her for that. She also made some funny faces where one could tell she was amazed at her own screwup and after the song was over she said that because she told us it might be a new song to some of us, she tricked herself into thinking it was new and therefore she messed up the words. So cute.

Upon introducing Sorceror she told us it was one of her Lady From The Mountain Songs that was written around the time her and Lindsey moved from S.F. to L.A. It was also the first time I enjoyed hearing it live. She was so into it. Her vocals were perfect through this and every song.

During Secret Love I concentrated on the video on the screen and when the song was over she said something like, "there, now you've seen it" and smiled brightly.

Before the show had started I met a Ledgie named London who recognized me from the photo I posted and we had a very nice conversation. In front of the boxoffice I recognized Macfanforever from a pic of himself he posted two years ago and he and I had an enjoyable conversation.
The absolute highlight for me was when a distinguished looking gentleman approached me during the break between Stevie and Rod's shows and introduced himself as Nikolaij. God had answered my request and I finally got to meet him in person.
He told me to follow him to the merchandise booth so he could buy me that t-shirt which he said he would do if he ever saw me at the show. You know a lot of people say they're gonna do something and never do it, but he did. He suggested he should buy me the red hoodie and I was so touched. He spent $60.00 on me!!! Then he went out for a smoke and asked me to wait in front of a certain consession stand for him, which I did, for two songs, and then I had to get back inside because I didn't want to miss Stevie's duets with Rod.
I just wanted you to know Kol, that I did wait for you but you didn't come back. And I appreciate very much the hoodie you bought for me. I wore it outside while waiting for valet to return with my car and it kept me warm, from the cold wind of it all. Besides seeing the Queen of rock and roll and being with some good friends, meeting you Kol was my great experience of the evening.

One of my guests took some nice pics which I will post as soon as they are e-mailed to me.

If I remember more, I will post it later.

Much Love, Viv

I, too, was at the Mohegan Sun show ... kind of nice to come full circle ... back in April of 2008 ... I flew in from the midwest for a long New England weekend -- and saw her perform solo then ... and shortly thereafter, moved out to Connecticut. Tonight, saw her again, and in 2 weeks ... moving to New York City. Go me.

Anyway, decided at the last minute to go to the show, pulling into Mohegan around 7:05 ... and going straight to the box office and managed to snag a pretty good seat, if I do say so myself.

Stevie came out and looked and sounded great - but again, I'm just tired of the set list. I've been there, done this already. I understand the standards must be played, but there is so much other solo material to work with ... it's time for "Fall From Grace" and "Sorcerer" to go ... but that's neither here, nor there.

"Gold Dust Woman" and "Stand Back" were in very fine shape ... "Edge of Seventeen" was up there, too ... it was way different without the 5 minute drum intro.

There were a few die-hard Stevie fans around ... I could tell by the response to "Destination Unknown" coming over the loudspeaker -- but it was a very heavy Rod-favored audience.

Stevie's physical set was rather simple compared to Rod's set and staging.

The two of them worked well together - would have been nice to see Stevie and her crew come out for "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" and end the night together.

An odd pairing, but it worked - I was highly entertained -- it was great seeing Stevie Nicks again and it was great seeing Rod Stewart for the first time.

A couple of things I remebered to mention: Rod introduced Stevie at the beginning of her set and gave her a nice introduction in his set as well. After the show was over Rod thanked all of us "on behalf of Stevie and myself."
I had great seats on the floor and no one was told to put their cameras or video cameras away. It was a free for all.So guys, bring your best cameras and DVD recorders to these shows, they are allowed. There was plenty of security there but the only thing they objected to were people who held up signs. They didn't want those blocking other people's views. I stood up and danced through many of the songs. I couldn't help myself, and few around me rarley stood up during Stevies' performance, but no one ever asked me to sit down.
Also wanted to say that Rod put on a great, enjoyable show, He showcases a lot of talented women musicians and I found that very endearing.
When his set was over he thanked us all "for spending your hard earned money on us."
I can't wait to post the cool photos.

Much Love, Viv

Thanks for mentioning that. What you say is absolutely true about the cameras. Papa Smurf in my row (complete with the driving cap and beard) must have had some expensive SLR with an attached lens that was the size of the Hubble telescope. I was like, "next time you should remember to bring your tripod too, gramps!"

Once Rod hits the stage, you can pretty much stand up and move about as you please, but during Stevie's set, you'd better be prepared to sit. One of the "Real Soccer Moms of New Jersey" behind me took me to task!

Caution -- not all venues are as friendly on the cameras as they are at Mohegan Sun. That's why I much prefer Mohegan over Foxwoods, fyi.

They're pretty lax at the Bell Centre in Montreal, too, which, if anyone is making the trip, is an *awesome* concert arena.

I was at the show as well, thought the WHOLE show Stevie and Rod was great. The only thing that bugged me was the guy running up and down the aisle doing jumping jacks. I kept thinking, "Dude, you're not watching the show AT ALL!!!" most of the time he had his back to the stage trying to get people to dance with him.

Here's hoping that Stevie comes back on the In Your Dreams tour. And please, come back to Mohegan and NOT Foxwoods!! I hate Foxwoods!!! Great venue, but I don't like the place overall.

I think they were friendly because this is Rod's tour. When Stevie plays Mohegan by herself, these same in house personel turn into the camera nazi's.

Another fun thing I just thought of to mention: when Rod decided to kick lightweight soccor balls from the stage into the audience and watching everyone's excitement in trying to be the one to catch and keep their ball. The girl right next to me caught one of them.

Awww... bless his heart. I wouldn't be caught dead wearing those hideous T-shirts, but it's the thought that counts. Alas, I was not in attendance (three-hour drive on a school night is a no-no for me). I was referring to the MSG show above.

Greetings! I went to the show at Mohegan Sun last night and had a FABULOUS time!!!
I had the pleasure of meeting Viv, a charming soul, and wish we had more time to talk!

High Priestess Stevie cast a powerful spell last night. Her vocals and beauty were intoxicating - as always - but the true magick of the evening for me was witnessing a level of confidence and sexiness that I haven't seen her display for many moons now. She was truly relaxed and enjoying herself - no nerves on this night. Stevie shined brightly, her band played brilliantly, and I can't wait (hoping!) for a CT/New England IYD tour date!

Highlights of the set: Secret Love (the video is VERY cool), GDW, Sorcerer, Rhiannon, Edge, and Love Is (not a dry eye in the section I was sitting in).

The only low of the evening was the absence of Stevie playing tambourine.

With decades-old heydays and sandpaper vocal signatures in common, Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks are naturals for a double bill. In practice Sunday night at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, the pairing was a nostalgia showcase, spun by each artist in a notably different way.

Headliner Stewart fostered a party atmosphere with a strong whiff of camp around its edges, reveling in the role of '60s-style lounge denizen as he paraded forth in a shiny orange dinner jacket, shiny black shoes and spiky peroxide-altered hair. He has extended his recording career with middle-of-the-road soul interpretations of familiar favorites and the American Songbook, and kicked off his show with a lively push through someone else's hit, grappling gamely with the chugging "Love Train."

Nicks featured recent material alongside stalwart hits, with the throbbing "Secret Love" and powerful "If Anyone Falls." Her singing retains its singular nasal quality, but has little flex or finesse leaving its high end sharp but not particularly expressive in the Fleetwood Mac hit "Dreams."

The contrast between the two singers was particularly evident when Nicks joined Stewart for a pair of songs in his set, among them a sprightly "Young Turks" in which his singing was cool and genial, hers hearty but stiff. He toyed with tunes while easing through his performance, shrugging off his 66 years to play the good-natured sex symbol as he swiveled into the supple flow of "The First Cut is the Deepest."

Nicks' stagecraft began and ended with the slow-motion twirling within "Stand Back," fluffing one of several shawls that remain her particular accoutrement. The toughest part of her package to swallow was her blunt vocal instrument; she had to dig deep to pull anything out of a stripped-down acoustic reading of "Landslide," and sounded like she was in the right place only when hammering at her outsized closer "Edge of Seventeen."

Stewart hurling himself at "Downtown Train" while his 13-piece band filled ample sonic space. A country lilt from decorative fiddle and acoustic guitar lines colored "Reason to Believe," while Stewart leapt into a sturdy Chuck Berry vibe to rasp gamely across the horn-peppered "Sweet Little Rock and Roller."

Stewart changed jackets multiple times, ultimately landing in a glistening purple suit as he plowed through the treetops of his deep hit catalog, booting soccer balls into the audience while barking the sturdy "Hot Legs," and turning the mandolin-trimmed "Maggie May" into a lively sing-along. His encore of "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy" was offered with an amusing slice of bravado that came with at least some expectation he wanted everyone to believe it remained true.

Stevie Nicks' Sunday set list: "Fall From Grace," "Secret Love," "If Anyone Falls," "Dreams," "Sorcerer," "Gold Dust Woman," "Stand Back," "Rhiannon," "Landslide," "Edge of Seventeen," (Encore) "Love Is."

Rod Stewart's Sunday set list: "Love Train," "Tonight's the Night (Gonna be Alright)," "Havin' a Party," "Passion," "Young Turks," "The First cut is the Deepest," "Forever Young," "Downtown Train," "You Wear it Well," "Reason to Believe," "You're in my Heart (The Final Acclaim)," "Sweet Little Rock and Roller," "Rhythm of my Heart," "Proud Mary," "Have I Told you Lately," "Hot Legs," "Maggie May," (Encore) "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?"

That review was really in The Courant!!!??? You have got to be kidding me. I thought Stevie sounded phenomenal last night. Yea, like I said in the other thread...it would be cool if she was more playful with her audience like Rod is, but that is awfully harsh towards Stevie's vocals.

During Secret Love I concentrated on the video on the screen and when the song was over she said something like, "there, now you've seen it" and smiled brightly.

That's funny. It's as if she is well aware of all the anticipation for it.

Thank you for the great review. Michele

Stewart headlines; Nicks in shadow
Wednesday, March 30, 2011
By KEVIN O'HARE

UNCASVILLE, Conn. - There have been some intriguing pairings of stars to try and light up box offices during the economic downturn, and you can add the double bill of Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks to the list.

The two veteran singers brought their "Heart & Soul" tour to a full house at the Mohegan Sun Arena on Sunday night for a nostalgia-filled night courtesy of two of the most distinctive vocalists of their era.

Both in their 60s, the pair focused on familiar, crowd friendly-fare during their individual sets and surprisingly did only a couple of songs together.

However, one thing was certain when all was said and done: Stewart was the headliner, and it's a good thing that he was. His electrifying stage presence and high-energy performance made Nicks' hour-and-20-minute opening set seem pale in comparison.

The Fleetwood Mac songstress fronted a seven-piece band and was accompanied by two female backing singers as she moved through songs such as "Dreams," "If Anyone Falls," and the harder edge of "Gold Dust Woman," while the pulsating "Secret Love," a new song from her forthcoming album "In Your Dreams" was well received by the crowd.

The mystical enchanter from the 1970s and '80s surfaced occasionally as Nicks drew shrieks from the audience when she started spinning with her shawl wrapped around her in "Stand Back," while classics like "Rhiannon," and the touching take of "Landslide" (the latter complete with a video backdrop showing plenty of images of the singer with her father) brought the set to an emotional peak.

Unfortunately, "Edge of Seventeen" was long and rather anticlimactic while the encore ballad "Love Is," was positively deflating.

Stewart, in contrast, was in a mood to party. He also offered plenty of eye candy, in part thanks to his gleaming white stage set, which featured shiny white flooring, two white drums sets, white keyboards, microphones, etc.

The males in his 10-piece band were wearing smart black suits and thin ties (they later changed into plaid jackets) while the women, including his three female backing vocalists, were initially decked out in stunning red mini-dresses, all complementing the wildly coifed "Rod the Mod," who began the night sporting a gold suit, one of several sharp outfits he wore during 90 minutes on stage.

Kicking in with the O'Jays' "Love Train," he had the crowd singing heartily by the second song "Tonight's the Night," and after a wild run through Sam Cooke's "Having a Party," he brought out Nicks for their only duets, "Passion," and "Young Turks."

Stewart's band was sparked by guitarist Paul Warren and fiddle and mandolin player J'Anna Jacoby.

Fortunately, he stayed away from "The Great American Songbook" material that he's made a killing with in recent years, opting instead for a set of vintage rockers like the beautiful version of Tom Waits' "Downtown Train," and some of his real classics like "The First Cut is the Deepest," and "Reason to Believe."

Though he had the flu a week ago that briefly halted the tour, Stewart was mostly in fine voice Sunday. Occasionally, his trademark raspy timbre seemed thinner than usual, like during "You Wear it Well," and even on his mega-hit "Maggie May," but elsewhere, like during the moving cover of Van Morrison's "Have I Told You Lately," he sang majestically, even touching every upper octave note with grace and style.

His latter set highlights included a very playful "Hot Legs," during which the soccer-loving Stewart kicked at least two dozen soccer balls deep into the crowd.

The singer's encore embraced one of his most controversial musical periods, as he charged through the disco-era smash "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy." He rarely stopped smiling and not surprisingly appears to be a guy who is still thrilled every time he takes the stage.

UNCASVILLE, Conn. - It resembled two shows in one as two stellar rock singer/songwriters joined together.

Stevie Nicks and Rod Stewart took the stage Sunday night at the Mohegan Sun Arena, playing lengthy sets of their own material and dueting on a couple of songs as part of their "Heart & Soul Tour." Wednesday they hit the TD Garden in Boston.

Stewart's performance was one of the more elaborate to be seen, with an extensive band and eye-catching white stage where even the two drum sets and keyboard were that color. Then again, he has for decades been known as a top-notch showman. The three guitarists were dressed in Beatles-looking mod - sharp sport jackets and with short hair, for an artist who has been nicknamed "Rod the Mod."

Stewart the past few years has come out with several albums featuring covers of traditional songs, but he stuck mostly with his rock catalog.

Stewart is regarded as one of the finest white soul vocalists in rock history and did open with a cover of the O'Jay's "Love Train" before lighting up the fans with "Tonight's the Night," which in 1976 spent a record eight weeks at No. 1, eclipsing The Beatles' "Hey Jude" in the books. A sensational female violin player made her first appearance for the song. Looking and acting anything but his age of 66, Stewart was also backed by four women singers and a three-piece horn section that featured two women dressed in bright red.

A cover of Sam Cooke's "Having a Party" put the trumpet in the spotlight.

Nicks, who opened the show, reappeared for duets with Stewart on his snappy "Passion" and "Young Turks," both hitting No. 5 on the charts in the early '80s.

Nicks, 62, is known for her harmonies, having done duets with Tom Petty and Don Henley.

The pace continued to slow for Stewart's 1977 cover of Cat Stevens' "First Cut is the Deepest," with acoustic guitar.

At the end of the eternal "Forever Young" from the late '80s, the artist sat down for a lengthy "Downtown Train," a No. 3 tune from 1989 that featured a dueling drum solo. Following the splendid "You Wear it Well" from 1972 and "Reason to Believe" that involved a floor bass, the audience helped sing "You're In My Heart," a hit from the late '70s.

After a version of Chuck Berry's "Sweet Little Rock 'n' Roller," Stewart dedicated "Rhythm of My Heart" to those serving in the military. A backup singer shook the arena a la Tina Turner with "Proud Mary."

Switching from a rust jacket to a purple suit, Stewart sang "Have I Told You Lately" that Van Morrison first did.

The arena turned into a sports stadium as Stewart, a former pro soccer player, kicked soccer balls into the crowd - reaching the upper balcony most times, during "Hot Legs" from 1978.

The mandolin, played by the violinist, was in the limelight for Stewart's signature song, the ballad "Maggie May" that is considered one of the greatest rock songs. It was the first single to go No. 1 on both sides of the Atlantic.

The encore was the disco "D'Ya Think I'm Sexy," a No. 1 in 1978 that had all the musicians lined up along the front of the stage.

Nicks is scheduled to release her first album of new material in a decade, "In Your Dreams," on May 3. Her seventh album, it was co-produced by former Eurythmic David A. Stewart.

The album's first single, "Secret Love," which she wrote decades ago, has been out since February and that was among the first songs in her set.

After "If Anyone Falls in Love," Nicks told the crowd before singing "Dreams" that it probably has been in every Fleetwood Mac show. That No. 1 song is off the phenomenal 1977 Grammy-winning "Rumors" album.

Nicks' mystical "Sorcerer" led to the psychedelic "Gold Dust Woman," also from "Rumors," and which was extended as she did her trademark twirl.

The two drummers soloed to segue into Nicks' "Stand Back," a No. 5 song from 1983 that showcased some impressive bass playing. Stewart did the song in the early '90s.

"Rhiannon," Fleetwood Mac's first hit off the No. 1 and first album with Lindsey Buckingham and Nicks, continued the blend of songs.

The acoustic guitar came out for the sweet "Landslide," also from the above "Fleetwood Mac."

Another of Nicks' big solo hits, "Edge of Seventeen," from her 1982 chart-topping debut album, was also dragged out with some sizzling guitar.

The encore was "Love Is," with just a piano player and backup singers.

Nicks, whose voice was as breath-taking as ever, was also backed up by two women singers, three guitarists and two keyboardists.

Nicks and Fleetwood Mac were influenced by Stewart, who played in a short-lived group with Mac's drummer Mick Fleetwood and guitarist Peter Green.

In a career spanning five decades, Stewart has sold an estimated 250 million album and single sales and had 16 Grammy nominations. The Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Famer finished 2010 at the top of both the touring and album charts, having played Las Vegas and a 33-date European summer tour.

A one-time grave digger who went to the same English school as Ray and Dave Davies of The Kinks, Stewart has folk roots and his abrasive vocal style was influenced by Cooke and Al Jolson. He joined up with guitarist Jeff Beck - who he is working with again, relocated to America and worked with the Rolling Stones' Ron Wood in The Faces.

Nicks is a seven-time Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum, Hall of Fame inductee who has inspired many female singers.

I wished you could have been there too. It would have been nice to see you 2 years in a row. I looked around many times and the show appeared to be sold out. There were people in every tier, right up to the outer walls. However, throughout the show there were many unfilled seats here and there.

Another memory I want to share is after Stevie went to the sides of the stage to wave to the people she then walked over to Lori and hi-fived her with both hands. Then She reached out to Sharon with both hands and Sharon grabbed onto Stevie's wrists with both of her hands. Then Stevie stood in front of each musician and waved at them. In front of her drummer she "cat scratched" down on the screen seperating her from the drummer. This "cat scratching" scene really stands out in my memory. And a memory is all that is left for you now.
You see your gypsy.
