Hello everyone: I'm headed to see Stevie tomorrow night in the ATL. Philips Arena is an excellent concert arena, so I'm looking forward to Stevie's performance there. My first time seeing her was last August in Santa Barbara and I thought she sounded great. (I'm curious on how many songs she'll be able to fit into her set on this current tour.)
Hopefully, Rod is better (if he did indeed have the flu) and the show will be a good one for his sake and for his fans' sake.

I think Philips Arena is great, too. That's where I saw FM on the SYW tour (June 2003). Have a fun time at the concert!!!

I know that FM concert was great. As big of Fleetwood fan as I am, I've never been to one of their shows. I've been to one of Lindsey's shows (freaking amazing) and after tomorrow night, I will have been to two Stevie gigs.

Too bad you didn't get to go to the 2003 FM concert there. I really wanted to see them again at Philips Arena in April 2009, but couldn't go. Still, lucky you getting to see Lindsey solo! I am so hoping to catch a Lindsey solo concert if he tours with his next album!!

I highly recommend going to a Lindsey show. I saw him at the Davis Theater in Montgomery, AL, in 2007 when he did toured in support of the album that he released that year. He played a long setlist and of course did a few of his FM favorites.

I just bought tickets. I held out hoping to get better tickets at a better price. I considered nosebleed, but in the end I decided I had to at least be near the stage...so it's not uber close row wise, but at least the section is next to the stage. I like to people watch, so I think it'll be fine for that.

After seeing Rod's setlist from the Tampa show last night, I doubt I'll stay for his entire set. I'll probably bolt after Downtown Train. I'm looking forward to hearing Stevie and don't care what she has on her setlist as long as she sounds good. But, to be honest, I'm not a big fan of his.

We are getting our tickets when we get there around 4 or 5. We did this last year for FM there and got 2nd row aisle. So I see no problem with doing the same thing this year.

Glad to hear they did some duets tonight. I went to the Tampa show last night. I thought Stevie was very good. She seemed to be having a good time and much more energy then on the "Unleashed" Tour. Basically I only went to see Stevie but decided to go buy a couple of those 22 ounce beers they were selling and listen to Rod's performance. Besides that I had made friends with some people in FL2 Row 16, 17 and 18. Great girls! and couple of guys too. Anyways to my utter surprise Rod's performance was fantastic. I really enjoyed it. The stage was nice and all the musicians were really into it. We were dancing the entire set, nothing like I expected. I hope I can catch another show on this tour, it was so much fun.

I got all of Passion and Young Turks on video! So glad she came out for some duets! Let me tell you guys something...if you are there to see a Stevie show (yes, she way great) but it's a Rod show. His stage blew Stevie's away, I think he changed more than she did and his background players were great! I loved everything Stevie did and Love Is was a HUGE highlight. Just her, the piano and Sharon and Lori. GDW was great as usual, Stand Back and Edge were spot on. What's funny after all these years Waddy still has to count her in on Edge. But anyways its worth it and Stevie did great as usual but she could pick up a think or 2 from Rod.
But when she danced with his background singers it was AMAZING!!!! She had all their moves down. I'm going to post but it will probably be tomorrow since I've had a few libations.

That sounds sensational. When she did the dance under the strobe lights at Tom Petty's show and we saw move with that staccato effect, I thought it was so great that she should recreate it in one of her own concerts.
The way you described her moving in synch with Rod's dancers gets me thinking the same thing.

It's his show. Of course, he has to have the better stage. I doubt she has anything to learn from him, especially since he's basically been a lounge act for 20 years. He could learn from her to get his ass in the studio and start making new music.

Y'all, this show was seriously AMAZING. I loved every minute of it. It's the perfect balance. Stevie has the intensity and Rod just puts on a fun, upbeat show. I was not a Rod fan, but I have to say - he is a fantastic performer. It was a blast.
I saw Stevie being led out to stand behind Lenny's drums and I wasn't sure what was going on until the girl behind me started going nuts because she saw Rod. Quickly, he introduced her saying she was "one of the greatest rock voices - an icon" (or iconic voices, something like that) and the crowd really gave her a big cheer. Here's a little commentary on each song:
FFG was an excellent opener.
Secret Love - this video is so cool! I could do without Dave in it so much but it's still a very Stevie-vibe thing. To me, it captures the whole mystique more than any other video she's done. I would have recorded but the security lady was two chairs away from me and was really watching everyone still this early in the show. Stevie seemed really into this song and did an extra little vocal thing ad-lib at the end that I dug. Hope I can pick it out from the recordings. OH, and there were several people around me and in the arena really that knew the song. Good sign, I thought! One lady said, "oh this is my new favorite song!"
If Anyone Falls - People knew this song and were into it, dancing. The crowd seemed to get into the nostalgia of the old videos and were cheering every time a shot of her in the prime came up. Stevie was spot on.
Dreams - I think she introduced this song, briefly. Everyone into it, dancing.
Sorcerer - Stevie introduced it as "when Lindsey and I first moved to LA" again.. hehehe .. People sat down but it was good.
Gold Dust Woman - This brought the house down! Excellent version! One of my all-time fav performances. She did the "baby, baby, babys".
Stand Back - Crowd shaker.
Rhiannon - She went off right before and then came back to the soft piano intro. There was fire twirling/dancing girl in the video. And, I think also in this a girl in water. Very cool looking. Stevie took the gloves off here and for the jewelry people she had rings on.
Landslide - she dedicated it to "us" because she wanted to give us some "peace and love" to our lives or hearts. She seemed a little melancholy at this point. It was the video tribute to her Dad.
Edge of Seventeen - Waddy did not have a 150 minute guitar intro...Stevie was not hearing good at the beginning and the entire song was off by about half a beat , but everyone was into it and really rocking out. During the "Edge Walk" part she went to each side of the stage, smiling, waving and took a nice long bow. Then she shook the girls hands, and went to each band member and stood by them or in front, shook their hand or patted them. The video behind had a real dove - I don't remember that from the one other solo show I saw. Also, I think at the end of this she threw her hair all the way over to the front and then back again. It was a great visual effect and everyone was cheering.
Rock and Roll - cut.
Love Is - encore, she explained about the 3 ballads and sort of sadly said, this would be the last ballad of her life.
Stevie was SO into it! I've never seen her this good. She was moving around more - even if a lot of it is hand motions - she's obviously limited, wearing the boks again, but still she was moving, swaying and smiling. She said how much they loved Atlanta, that 10 years ago she and Lori & Sharon basically lived here for 3 months and that they decided the most beautiful women live in Atlanta. Thanks, Stevie! :wavey:
The band bowed and then she did a Mick sort of speech - take care of yourselves and each other and pray, pray, pray for the world!
When Rod brought her out for the two songs, he gave her a really sweet introduction again - using a lot of adjectives - volumnous, voluptuous, etc. And, she came back out in pants. Rod said Stevie chose these two songs to do and they did Passion first. She seemed to REALLY love this song. She was totally into it, dancing and moving - ok dancing may be stretching it but she was moving a lot and when Rod came to her to sing together he seemed to draw her out more in an upbeat way. She looked like she was having a ball. It was so fun! Then, on Young Turks the same - and she was really having a good time with his back up singers. It was such a great performance! I'm so glad I got to see this and I recommend all Stevie fans to go catch a show on this tour if you can. It is not a let-down at all! High-energy, fun and excellent performances.

I agree! I think she should pull out some beautiful dresses and boots for some of her signature songs, but do the rest of the show in her pants and flowy tops! One thing is for sure, she better wear that getup on the next television performance she does. Everyone always bitches that she's been wearing the same thing since 1975, and I think it'd be an awesome way to show them a new side of Stevie. Not to mention they make her look years younger!

Stewart and Nicks a perfect pair — apart
March 25, 2011, by Melissa Ruggieri
It turns out that the interesting-yet-odd pairing of Stevie Nicks and Rod Stewart is more odd than interesting.
Separately, they’re terrific.
Together? Meh.
At Thursday night’s Philips Arena show – only the second date of the “Heart and Soul” tour after the kickoff in Fort Lauderdale was scotched Sunday due to Stewart “having the flu” – the venerable duo dazzled during their respective sets.
At 7:28 p.m., Stewart waltzed out on stage in his best boat captain getup to introduce “one of the truly great, iconic voices of rock ‘n’ roll…and I’m not talking about myself.”
Unfortunately for Nicks, whom he was talking about, the arena was about half-filled at that point, with many fans likely assuming that a 7:30 ticket meant an 8 p.m. or later start. When was the last time you attended a rock concert that started on time?
But Nicks, in her trademark layers of black ruffles and sequins, was undeterred as she barreled through a muddy “Fall From Grace” and a much cleaner-sounding “Secret Love,” the dreamy new single from her upcoming May release.
A seven-piece band and her two longtime backup singers sizzled with Nicks through a well-balanced set that started languidly, hit a sustained peak and ended with Nicks-ian introspection.
Fans of her solo work and Fleetwood Mac couldn’t have been disappointed with a song selection that included “If Anyone Falls,” “Sorcerer,” “Gold Dust Woman” and “Stand Back.”
And since Nicks hasn’t exactly been a mobile performer for years, it was especially gratifying to watch her gamely twirl through segments of “Stand Back,” a gesture that sent the Nicks groupies in the crowd to a new level of screeching.
Her distinctive bray of a voice veered from haunting (“Rihannon”) to gritty (“Edge of Seventeen”), and, as taut as her band was, the best moments came with Nicks backed by a single instrument.
”I hope this song brings you some peace and love,” she said as an introduction to “Landslide,” a truly timeless ballad that continues to reach fresh generations thanks to its numerous cover versions (hello, “Glee”).
As an array of family photos floated on the video screen behind her, including many from her early Mac days and even more with her father, Nicks crooned the sentimental lyrics, coloring the “I’m getting older, too” line with the perfect dab of wisdom.
Though she may be (unbelievably) in her 60s, not much has changed about her, from her hairstyle to her voice to her festooned mic stand.
The same can be said of Stewart, except substitute his spastic dance moves for a decorated mic stand.
Those are the elements that make sense about this pairing.
After a brief intermission following Nicks’ 75-minute set, Stewart and his nattily attired nine-piece band and trio of female backup singers arrived on a stage that looked more like a headliner’s platform compared to Nicks’ sparsely decorated playing field.
With a gleaming, two-tier white stage dotted with lights perched on columns behind him, Stewart instantly projected a party vibe by bopping and sliding across the stage for the opening “Love Train.”
Hard to believe he was laid up with the flu four days earlier given his extreme activity. Though midway through the 90-minute set, the perpetually hoarse-sounding singer pulled out a handkerchief to blow his nose and apologized for missing some of the notes on “Reason to Believe,” attributing the gaffe to his recent illness.
But first, those duets.
Pairing like-minded or audience-sharing acts on the same bill isn’t a novelty – half of the summer shed tours are stocked with ‘70s and ‘80s throwbacks who fit that description.
But they rarely share a stage.
The gimmick here was to see how well these two rock vets would gel and, as about 15,000 audience members learned…not too well.
Nicks returned to the stage – in black leggings instead of a dress! – and Stewart mentioned that the two songs they would sing were her choices.
“Passion” immediately sounded like a mistake (why, Stevie, why?) with raspy, half-sung lyrics, but “Young Turks,” while spirited, was the bigger train wreck.
Neither seemed completely sure who was handling which lines and watching Nicks awkwardly stand still as Stewart engaged in his usual frisky-lad skittering around the stage made you want to give her a hug. At least Stewart’s backup singers finally rescued Nicks, coming over to sing and engage her in some simple choreography.
Despite their similar vocal tones, nothing clicked between them harmonically, either.
With that obligatory moment out of the way, Stewart, who remains a pre-eminent showman, dove into “The First Cut is the Deepest” – which he’s really made into his own over the years – and Tom Waits’ “Downtown Train.”
The wonderfully watchable Stewart is such a jitterbug, he nearly propelled himself off the stool he was sitting on for the ballad from pumping his feet so hard.
After getting a bit vocally foggy on “You Wear It Well” and “Reason,” Stewart, who left the stage several times to change into different vibrantly colored suits or jackets, soared again on “You’re in My Heart” and “Have I Told You Lately.”
And when the time came for “Hot Legs,” performed with record precision, out came the soccer (er, foot) balls, which Stewart enthusiastically booted into the crowd.
No doubt, fans received a comprehensive night of music from two of rock’s biggest hit machines. But better to keep those hits separated.

That review sucked! The arena was definitely more than half full when she came out...I would say it was near capacity. And, I honestly couldn't tell you if the duets were perfect ... That wasn't too important to me. Just the interaction and seeing stevie have fun was worth it. When good vids pop up and we can scrutinize it to death the opinions may change, but in the moment it was fun and entertaining and all the rod fans around me seemed to really enjoy her presence during his show too....

Rock On!!!!!!!!
Glad you enjoyed the show! Looking forward to your vids!
^^^That review makes me want to see this even more. I love a good trainwreck. Hopefully they will not have ironed out all the wrinkles for the MSG show! Mama does look hawt though.

But to be honest, unless it's rap or the instant hot new thing, the Atlanta critics have always been completely dismissive.

I loved when they did "Passion" together. Especially @ 4:35 when Stevie sang "oooh something ain't right." She sounded very bluesy then and I remember @ the concert loving that little line too.
One thing that stuck out to me at the show was Stevie seemed to be much more into her 2 songs with Rod than her whole set. Don't get me wrong, she was pretty energetic for her set - especially compared with previous tours. However, I think when she performs with other people she really steps up and she did with Rod. She had her hips moving a lot, smiled a lot - she was having a blast.

Wow it is so cool to see Stevie on a stage like that! Really rocken out havin fun! The bright lights and colours are such a different stage for her. I love it. Reminds me of the old Stevie when she moved around more and was more sporadic. Rod's good for Stevie. Keeps her on her toes. He doesn't strike me as one who rehearses or sticks to the plan (like poor Lindsey ) which could make Stevie very uncomfortable and uneasy. But she seems fine. Thanks for sharing all these vids and pics!

^Eh. Everyone's a critic, right? But, out of 26 comments, a couple of bad reviews and a lot of "ok" and a few who enjoyed seeing legends together - the reviews weren't as bad as I thought they might be.
I still maintain it was a great show and totally worth seeing. I accept Stevie and her limitations and I thought she was doing her best to overcome. She's not an "entertainer", she's a songwriter who sings, a stylist. I mean, she does what she does. It's clear the older she gets she is into the more calm, mellow side of things. That's ok. That's where she is. Also, I think she is way more comfortable when she can rely on others to carry more of the weight - ie: Lindsey, Petty, Henley and Rod...it takes the pressure off her and doesn't make her weaknesses so obvious...

There are several of those that I would hardly call a "tour"...the "NOT A TOUR" thing being the prime example. Also, her stint at Caeser's Palace...and the Millennium shows. I also would consider the Two Voices and Gold Dust tours the same thing.

What's your point? I've seen a million concerts of singers but only a handful have truly been entertainers... and I've only seen Stevie twice solo. I'm just basing my opinion on my observations and the others I've read. I've never heard anyone claim that she was an outstanding "show woman" ...
she was outstanding show woman, geesh I saw her in 1994 and she put on a great concert, I just think she getting a bum rap, I didn't like her last year on the unleash tour, she has toured herself into a hole, it's not fresh for her, Rod has nothing to new offer, he has been doing the same old song and dance for almost 20 years. Maybe he should get criticized for not coming up with any new songs.

Ok, people interpret these things differently, I guess. You can put on a great concert (singing) and not move around at all. I wasn't being negative in my comments about her performances. And, you know what - you're right - she is an AMAZING show woman. But, she is not an entertainer. Rod is an entertainer. I'm not even a fan and that was obvious. It doesn't matter to me, I was just pointing out that she seemed more at ease being a PART of his show rather than being the front woman in hers. My observation. I was also reading into her own statements on her nerves and how she has said it's easier to be a part of a band or a group.

I get you. I just get tired of people saying she is old which some of the comments said.Rod is older, and he's not getting criticized at all for basically being creatively stale for 20 years. She is trying. I don't think Stevie should tour. Get us some new music now. She obviously wants to get something out creatively and she doesn't need the money. Her own management doesn't get it. Everyone is like grab the money and run. I'm sure one of the reasons she is doing this is just to promote her new material. At least she has new material.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the music business is the last great bastion of out-and-out barefaced sexism on the planet. I could puke coat hangers at what some of these guys get away with.

I was at this show and loved it! I encourage folks on the fence to go to a show. Stevie is working hard on giving it all she's got and it shows.
