View Full Version : Things you DO NOT want to hear Stevie say in concert

All in good fun, what just makes you cringe when you hear Stevie say it on stage?

What I don't want to hear:

1. "This shawl is sooo old....but so am I!"

2. "This next song I'm going to sing was written by Tom Petty/Bonnie Raitt/Bob Seger."

3. "When Lindsey and I first came to L.A.........."

I can't wait to see Stevie, but she always seems to say the same things. Is it because she gets nervous?

Stevie needs to simply talk less, limiting her song introductions to two at the very most. By now we all know what Dream is about, what Landslide is about, what Fall from Grace is about and what Sorcerer is about. I find her introductions not only rambling but they completely kill the flow of the concert.

Oh, I also don't want to hear Stevie talk about how we can all save the music business by going to cafes and having a revolution. WTF was that nonsense all about??!

I can't remember what she said on the SYW tour exactly, but she always had to be careful to distinguish the song SYW from the album SYW and her wording was cute, if awkward.

I loved the Gypsy intro for the Unleashed tour and every slight variation thereto.

"I'd like to introduce the love of my life, and boss, Waddy Wachtel."

1. Is Waddy REALLY the love of your life?
2. If you're paying him, then YOU are his boss, right?

I thought it was very interesting how the story evolved from a few sentences to a full blown monologue by the end of the tour. Although like you, I loved hearing it each time.

I don't know why but it bothered me when she muffled "Let's Get This Party Started" during Unleashed. If I never heard that again that works for me.

"Christine is like my best friend, even though I haven't spoken to her in like 10-12 years."

"The internet is just a fad."

"I can't wait to duet with Justin Bieber!"

I wrote this song in colorado and it was a time where Lindsey and I were not sure what to do next should i be in the business or back to college, well you know Lindsey and I were like married you know. And we got to taste the finer things of life recording in a big studio making a record to have it just be dropped as soon as it was released was like were back at square one you know and Lindsey and I were like married you know i did stupid jobs so he can practice day and night and to get us to were we want to be its alright for me to do stupid jobs because it was fine.

She said this in Connecticut on last years 'This is Not A Tour Tour.'

I wish she would omit the verbal crutch "thing" from her vocabulary. If she's the poet she thinks she is, you'd hoped she could find more descriptive words. Even in her lyrics, she sometime uses weak generic terms, where a better word would strengthen the lyric.

a bit awkard but Stevie may it sound charming nonetheless;)

Kind of like...who cares...shut up and sing?

I really dig her rambling...she get excited...and its neat because you see and hear the woman...in all her hilarity, oddity, human...emotional, loving etc...the person that keeps writing for the things money can't buy?
Stevie, to whom do you cry...when people are unkind? And yet you still dance across the stages of the world...Sweet Girl.

I couldn't tell if you were being sarcastic here or not but if you were being serious that was beautifully stated! You articulated that so well and I couldn't agree more. I love when she talks. It's such a different "voice" than we hear singing and shows a side we don't often get to see (as in what it would be like to have a conversation and hear Stevie Nicks talk to you). I would be crushed if she said nothing but band intros the whole show.

I totally agree ! I know she's a bit repetitive at times but that is part of her charm, that is who she is. Who know's maybe she'll let something slip, like who Secret Love is about ! I am sorry, but i am not buying that she doesn't remember who or what that song is about !! If you think about it, she can tell you everything about every song she's ever written. Even " I've loved and I've Lost " song way back from high school ! If she would just fess up that she would really rather not discuss who the song is about, it would add just that much more mystery and intrigue to the song and also her !! Adding mystery is what Stevie is all about. I just think she should have done it that way !! I love her not matter what, that's just my opinion.

I like standards. No problem there. However.....I loathe when an aging rocker attempts it. Hearing standards with Stevie's nose singing.....scares the sh*t outta me:sorry: It would be good comedy though. Lol

I don't know why but it bothered me when she muffled "Let's Get This Party Started" during Unleashed. If I never heard that again that works for me.

That bothered me too for some reason... it just didn't sound natural and I kept thinking - is this what my Stevie/fairy godmother/soul mate/sister of the moon calls a party? Must be...cause if she's using the weird muffled voice, she means business!
