For some reason - This announcement was a shock! The opening night cancelled:shocked: Hope this is not an omen for the H & S tour:confused:

Rod must have been feeling real BAd... or perhaps his insistence & stubborn stance to NOT rehearse caught up with him

I was wondering the same thing. Can't help but be nervous...
Do we know how sales have been?

And very sorry to Kayli and all of the other fans who were planning to attend that show.

The flu can really keep ya down :/ I know there's the 'show must go on' mentality, but when I had the flu I was stuck in bed for a week.. Rod's nearly fifty years my senior, so I don't doubt that itcould be bad enough to cancel.

In October 1987, Stevie performed pretty wonderfully at the Houston Tango concert. The next morning, the Austin concert was canceled, "due to Ms. Nicks' bronchitis" and that she felt it had hindered her Houston performance. ??? I thought she was marvelous in Houston! So, I guess bronchitis and the flu can wipe you out.

Luckily, the Austin concert was rescheduled for December 1987, and it was a blast, too!

Thanks Mezzo :wavey: On the positive side, at least anybody that won't see Stevie on this tour can look forward to the In Your Dreams tour this summer :) A real bummer for Rod fans, though.

He must be pretty sick for them to cancel an entire show. Bleh.

There are people that paid just to see Rod. Or BOTH. It sucks. Refunds coming. Maybe they can reschedule it. But it's really bad to bow out of opening night, especially for those that are coming a distance.

I feel for the fans of both Stevie's and Rod's. Hope that Stevie wasn't near Rod. I don't want her to get sick with the flu. Hopefully, they'll make it up to the fans at a later date.

While I feel bad for the fans that were planning on going, there could be a silver lining in all of this. At least there havent already been shows played. Maybe Rod's been ill for awhile and hes now just getting over it.

What's funny is in that BBC radio show I posted for sale a couple weeks ago, Stevie talks about canceling shows because of not feeling well. This was 1981 but she said that she's "about 15 years older than most of the people at the concerts and I'm tired and there are nights when I just don't feel like going out there, or I'm too sick to get out there. But I know that I have to do it and be great because these people have spent $12 to see me and my band and if I'm not great they won't come back."
Stevie has performed when she should have cancelled or at least postponed (the Santa Barbara show on the TISL tour!). I don't know what Rod's track record is. I just hope everything is back to normal by next Sunday when I go see them!!!

What happened at the Santa Barbara show during the TISL tour?

During the TISL tour (it may have been the night before, but I'm pretty sure it was Santa Barbara) Stevie was extremely hoarse. She barely made it thru "Dreams" she apologized and said that she was going backstage for a minute and if she can't get her voice back that would just sit and talk with everyone. She left the stage and when came a few minutes later she went on with the show. It wasn't a great show but she got thru it. But before she left the stage its painful to listen to.

I live in South Florida and went to a Florida Panthers hockey game on Thursday night- they play at the same place Stevie and Rod were going to perform at. They were talking up a storm trying to promote the concert- they were even selling the tickets that were regularly $58 or something around there for $35 up to a hour after the game was over if you wanted to stop by the box office to buy them. They were also doing contests and giving away free seats to it as well. I wonder if they didn't sell enough and used the flu reason as an excuse. I hope not- I had tickets to this as well, very bummed, I have never seen Stevie solo. I wish they would just let Stevie go on and let people choose whether they want a refund or not, oh well. Glad to see that she is doing a summer tour though, didn't know that.

Have you ever had the flu? I had influenza once, about 7 years ago, and didn't get out of bed for 2 weeks. Actually, I did get up to go to the doctor- went with my coat on over my pajamas. :o Even after two weeks, I had to push myself to get going again. Awful. :distress:

I'm pretty sure it was the Mt. View show that got canceled, found out when we got to the venue it was canc.
Also went to the SB show, her voice was def. strained.
I thought she did pretty good when she came back, considering her situation.

That's kind of my theory- that the show didn't sell. I don't want to sound judgmental, but FTL doesn't seem like a particularly, um... wealthy area. Perhaps they were banking on all the money coming up from Miami, but with gas around $4/gallon... maybe not.

FL is a HUGE market for concerts. Especially the area they were playing. Stevie always hits that area solo and FM always plays there for multiple days. Sorry, but there's no way this was cancelled due to ticket sales. No way in hell, actually. FL is one of the last places I could ever see canceling due to ticket sales.

It could absolutely be the show didn't sell well and they're using the flu as a crutch. However, Ft. Lauderdale is only 25 miles from Miami, and both areas are one of the biggest music draws in the US as far as concerts go. Ft. Lauderdale is a very, very wealthy city (minus some areas, of course.)

And I was pumped to hear "Secret Love" played live for the first time! And my hopes to hear Stevie and Rod duet on "Young Turks" and "Leather and Lace" have been kicked in the gut :p

Exactly. We get every big act, and with over 15 venues in the Ft. Laud/Miami/Palm Beach area, there is room for everybody. (Not that I see anybody spectacular very often, but still ;))

I don't think he cancelled due to ticket sales, but I think sales must not have been that good for them to flat out cancel the show all together instead of rescheduling it. If tickets had sold amazingly well, they would definitely not forgo all that money. Not that people don't want to see the acts, but those prices in this economy? The music business needs to get a grip on reality.

>Sigh< I've been to three Stevie/Fleetwood Mac concerts that have been CANCELED and then RESCHEDULED much later. But the original date was CANCELED, no makeup date offered. The Austin 1987 cancellation allowed you to trade your tickets for Tina Turner tickets, or get a refund. Luckily, Stevie came back later in each instance, and new tickets were sold.

Stevie's timeline is very tight. I'm sure she wants to make up this show, but they ALL have schedules to keep.

But let's just keep up the "The tour's a flop! Ticket sales were nil!" positiveness that is such a unique hallmark.

are they going to reschedule?

StandbackStevie
03-20-2011, 08:38 AM
Definetly the show was not cancelled due to poor ticket sales they would have cancelled the show weeks ago cause they are already in florida if they cancelled the night before the show so its probably true about rod being sick with the flu. I would say its a timed tour like she did with Don Henley and its a Rod Show not a Stevie Show so it would have been cool to have Stevie just play the whole show but alot of Rod fans would be mad to I would be if it were the other way around. So Rescheduled would have said postponed instead of cancelled so it would not be rescheduled. That sucks for the fans on both sides of Stevie and Rod to have a show you looking forward to go to get cancelled the night before. I hope they do get a rescheduled show but It doesn't look like that would happen.

MacMan
03-20-2011, 11:25 AM
I think it's a logistical/financial reason for the outright cancellation... I mean the tour ends on the west coast and to haul all your stuff back to the east for one night probably didn't make sense financially. I think if there were a window of opportunity to reschedule within the time frame that they were in the east they likely would have rescheduled.

StandbackStevie
03-20-2011, 11:54 AM
that makes sense too if the show was well sold they probably would have rescheduled since alot of the shows are on the east coast which would make sense. Economy is still bad and to put it out alot of money on concert ticket is crazy at this time. I am surprised that they didn't cancell before probably might see more dates cancelled if that is the case hope not but it would not surprise me either.

You have obviously never been to Lauderdale then. There is more money there than...well you know. Yachts, huge houses everywhere. I would definitley say that the average earnings there are higher than most areas in the country. And I would say that the average income in FtL is higher than in Miami.

I didn't say FTL was a ghetto. I just said that it didn't strike me as being particularly upscale ala Boca Raton, West Palm Beach, Miami Beach, etc. Yes, there appear to be some well manicured developments here and there... but in general it seemed a bit frumpy, compared to its more flamboyant neighbor to the south. After driving around a bit and walking by some realtor office windows, the prices seem shockingly affordable. The jaded New Yorker that I am, I just can't believe you can buy a house for under $200,000 that isn't half bad. That just boggles my senses. And for $500,000 you could get a house on the water. Good grief. There are plenty of studio apartments in NY for over $500,000.

BTW, despite the fiasco, I actually had a great weekend in FTL. The weather couldn't have been better. No offense, but if opening night was in Detroit and they canceled...

 Rod better recover by the end of March – I’m seeing the Montreal (April 1) show!

On the subject of faked illnesses (not that Rod is faking, as far as we know that is ), Janet Jackson supposedly pulled such a stunt in 2008.

Tickets for her shows were apparently not selling well, and she needed an excuse to pull out. When she got to Montreal, she went to the hospital for a check-up, and she was able to convince the doctor on duty she was indeed sick. The concert that very night was canceled, and subsequently the whole tour.

Needless to say, there was a lot of press accusing Janet of faking so she could pull out of a money losing tour with her head still held high.

Well, I hope Rod is actually sick and that he gets better (fast!), and that they bother to reschedule the Florida show for the disappointed folks who are going.

LOL! "Weak sauce"? First I've heard that one.

She's the one who said she needs to rehearse stuff to death, even though she's done them a gazil times...it's just her nerves, I guess. But, if she's that way with her own stuff imagine how magnified that is for her with someone she's never sang with before on songs she's never sang before - which probably is why she'll cave and do SB with Rod instead of another one of his songs...

i dont know. i know plenty of performers with nerves or those that are nervous prior to performance. but then they suck it up. they're professionals.

is stevie nervous before performance? I know she gets nervous speaking...perhaps that's what makes her nervous for this tour. Hasn't Rod become quite the yapper on stage? likely, she is terrified! I thought I noticed the look of 'i feel foolish' on ellen.

disclaimer: comments based stevie as the holdout or holdup.

 I'm just basing it on what I've heard her and others say about her stage fright. I have to say, I think she is a consummate professional, though. She just wants to rehearse a lot. And, in this case, I don't think she's in the wrong to want substantial rehearsal time with Rod Stewart, since they haven't performed together before. She said he doesn't care if he/they screw up and she has a different opinion. The audience may be split down the middle on that too. I side with her on this one. It would look sloppy probably - and it would be.

She said he doesn't care if he/they screw up and she has a different opinion. The audience may be split down the middle on that too. I side with her on this one. It would look sloppy probably - and it would be. oh i was having some fun. sigh. I hope she gets plenty of rehearsal time, as much as she needs. and, if Rod is ill, I do hope he gets better soon. I feel for those that had tickets to the cancelled show (been there) and I hope tampa happens, as well all other shows. whatever jumpstart they need, sending good thoughts. probably didn't help rod has been doing shows prior to this, so he hasn't had much of a rest.

Pensioners! I can remember when old people used to just sit around yakking about the war and how the 5p piece was too small. Honestly, giving 'rock' concerts at their age. They should grow up, the pair of them.
