What albums that are not Stevie related do you occassionally break out and play? of course, they cannot be Stevie or Fleetwood Mac albums or have anything to do with the two. They also cannot be anyones greatest hits.

For me, I occassionally listen to Joani Mitchell's Blue or Concrete Blondie's Bloodletting. I also listen to soundtracks to such movies as Out of Africa or Terminator or the Hours or The Piano or Blad Runner.... a lot. I'm just curious what albums you have gotten a lot of use out of over the years.

Actually, Stevie Nicks &/or Fleetwood Mac are only a VERY small percentage of my listening pleasure; so, this list is much MORE than just "occasionally break out"...I listen to these fairly frequently:

1) Allman Bros Band - Live At The Fillmore
2) Derek & The Dominos - In Concert
3) Little Feat - Waiting For Columbus (deluxe edition)
4) Cream - Wheels Of Fire
5) Traffic - On The Road
6) Allman Bros Band - Shades Of Two Worlds
7) Derek & The Dominos - Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs (25th Anniversary box set, mainly)
8) George Harrison - Cloud 9
9) ZZ Top - Tres Hombres
10) The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers
11) The Rolling Stones - Exile On Main Street
12) Little Feat - Dixie Chicken
13) Traffic - Far From Home
14) Jimi Hendrix - Band Of Gypsys
15) Roxy Music - Avalon
16) Blind Faith
17) The Beatles - White Album
18) George Harrison - All Things Must Pass
19) The Rolling Stones - Steel Wheels
20) The Motels - All Four One

And, lately, since I've been in a Janis Joplin tribute band for a while (called "Pearl"...beware, shamless plug ahead: http://pearl.neptune.net/, this one has been getting a helluva lot of plays due to my having to learn just about every song from it:

Big Brother & The Holding Company - Cheap Thrills

I'm a big fan of Joseph Arthur. I have other indie favs like Brookville and Home Video that I follow. I think Amy Winehouse is pretty great. I have all of Led Zepplin's albums. Same with Sheryl Crow. I have some Dire Straits albums because my parents drilled them into my head when I was a kid . I very much enjoy Heart... both their classic '70s period, along with the '80s kitsch. Like every other gay man on the planet, I love pre '98 Madonna. I also have some albums by Tom Petty, The Eagles, The Doors, and ZZ Top (I'm a native Texan... we ALL listen to ZZ Top!). I have Jimmy Buffet music for warm days spent by water. And tons of other random albums by everyone from Otis Redding to Matchbox 20. My music collection, much like myself, is pretty manic. But it's FUN that way! :D

It's interesting what people listen too. I too use to listen to the doors alot and also Heart. Little Queen, Dreamboat Annie, and Dog and Butterfly are great albums. I also listened to the Eagles and Bjork albums. I don't really break them out though anymore. It's like i've absord them. Well, actually I do listen Dreamboat Annie. I love that album.

I don't why I've become soo soundtrack and classical oriented. Maybe it's because the lack of words let my mind wonder more.

Currently in car CD player-
#1 David Nail - I'm About To Come Alive- a new country guy. He had three hits from this CD, and I've been OBSESSED with this, for the past nine months. My favorite CD of the past 5 years. There's a sadness in his voice, that just "does it" for me.
#1.2 - I fit almost all of Mick's Zoo's "I'm Not Me", on the same disk.
#2 Zac Brown Band - Foundation
#3 Johnny Cash- Sun Sessions
#4 Eagles - LROO Eden
#5 Fleetwood Mac - my hits
#6 a bunch of new dance stuff, that I'm trying to make myself like(Katy Perry, stuff like that). I throw late night pool parties, all summer long, and I'm trying to pretend to be somewhat hip!

I have never even heard of Joseph Arthur.

This is the song of Joseph's that first caught my attention about a decade ago. Much of his newer stuff is quite edgy... I definitely hear a Lindsey Buckingham influence throughout his material:

I grew up hearing that album constantly :). It's a great one... and an interesting commentary on modern life.

I got the album, but I rarely listened to it since just about every song got massive airplay on FM radio back in the day. I've been starting to listen to Supertramp again after a 20+ year layoff.

I used to listen to their earlier albums (Even In The Quietest Moments, Crisis...What Crisis?, & Crime Of The Century) quite a bit...they were every bit as good as Breakfast In America, but other than a tune or two, here & there, after BIA got famous, they got little airplay.

Sheryl Crow
Bruce Springsteen

Too many to mention, really. Stevie and FM are pretty much what I listen to the least these days.

I get tired of the constant moaning that 'music isn't good anymore' or that 'music all sucks these days'. The truth is that complaints like that are from people stuck in the past.

Recent favorites are by:

Tracey Thorne -Love and Its Opposite, Out of the Woods
The Cinematics - Love & Terror, A Strange Education
Kasabian - West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum, Empire, Kasabian
Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings The Flood, Middle Cyclone
Amos Lee - Mission Bell
Cold War Kids - Loyalty to Loyalty, Robbers & Cowards
Honeycut - The Day I Turned To Glass
Jessie Baylin - You, Firesight
Portishead - Third, Dummy, Portishead
The Black Keys - Brothers, Attack & Release
Gorillaz - Demon Days, Plastic Beach
Vampire Weekend - Contra, Vampire Weekend
Sam Sparro - Sam Sparro
Art Brut - Art Brut versus Satan
Hockey (these guys are awesome beyond words) - Mind Chaos
Muse - Uprising, Absolution, Black Holes And Revelations
Regina Spektor - Far, Fidelity, Soviet Kitcsh
The Whitest Boy Alive - Dreams, Rules
Royksopp - Junior, Melody AM
Fiona Apple - Extraordinary Machine
Kate Nash - Made Of Bricks, My Best Friend Is You
Ray LaMontagne - God Willin' & the Creek Don't Rise

The Presets - Apocalypso
James Morrison - Undiscovered, Songs For You, Truths For Me
Franz Ferdinand - Tonight!
Shawn Lee's Ping Pong Orchestra (a great lounge-style musician) - Strings And Things, Miles of Styles, World of Funk

I also have a life-long love for Depeche Mode, Madonna and Siouxsie & The Banshees, so they get a lot of airtime.

Apart from Stevie and the Mac, there are loads of artists I listen to, but very rarely does an entire album grip me for a prolonged period of time, I flit between loving albums .

Regina Spektor - Mary Ann Meets The Gravediggers

So good to see another Regina fan. I sometimes feel like the only one! She's so talented and her songwriting has great depth, yet is unabashedly quirky. Her most recent album, Far, is amazing. She's a future legend; it's just a shame so few seem to be aware of her work. I'd love to actually hear her on the radio.

^It's definitely a breath of fresh air from White Chalk, which I didn't enjoy much at all. It grew off of me pretty quickly! I snapped up a ticket to the NYC show the moment in went on sale and it sold out 2 hours later, so I feel lucky. They added another one the night before that I might try to go to. She's doing so few US dates this time, though. Just Coachella, San Francisco, and 2 nights in New York. It's a real shame.

Oh I am sooo glad I have turned yet another person on to Joseph Arthur! :D The entire album that song is from, Redemption's Son, is simply divine.

I have all of Joseph's albums and EP's, and Nuclear Daydream is a very solid album and another good diving off point if you're so inclined. I truly think any Rumours Era Mac fan would enjoy Joseph's music. He's utterly brilliant. This might just be my fav song of his:

Natalie Merchant - Live in Concert

So good to see another Natalie Merrchant fan on here! She so rarely gets her due as a great solo artist, as well as her stuff with 10 000 Maniacs. Tigerlily is an awesome album, but Ophelia is the really underrated one - it's superb! Motherland took me a bit of work but now I like it. I haven't bought The House Carpenter's Daughter yet. As for Leave Your Sleep, I'm not too ken on it...yet. Any other Natalie fans here??
Oh, and I have a real fondoness for Hootie!

I really enjoy Natalie's solo work. The House Carpenter's Daughter is an interesting concept album, but speaking honestly I found little value in it after a few listens. The songs are early americana-folk, and are not written by Natalie....so essentially it's an album of covers, though many of the songs are not fully credited because their origin wasn't always certain. There are a few that get stuck in my head from time to time, but it's literally been 4+ years since I listened to any of the tracks.

In sum, an essential album for the loyal fan, but nothing like her original compositions.

My iPod is almost constantly on shuffle in my car, but the two non-mac related albums that I always keep in my car's CD changer are:
Patti Smith - Horses (Live from 2005)
Warren Zevon - Stand in the Fire

I just never get sick of those...

When I can force myself to listen to stuff other than Lindsey Buckingham and Fleetwood Mac, I put on:

David Bowie
Roxy Music
Blondie
Abba
Guns N Roses
Bon Jovi
Meat Loaf
Mamas & Papas
Beach Boys
Johnny Cash
Bobby Darin
Bruce Springsteen
Aerosmith
Dean Martin

And, dare I admit it, my Glam Rock (1970's) 6-CD set

Best musical taste thus far.

For the folks that "hardly break out a Mac record" - why are you on here ?

Speaking for myself, I've been a fan for a long time....I may not listen regularly, but I still like to discuss the music from time to time, Stevie in particular.

My musical tastes tend to be current, all the time - I'm one of those people that will remain intensely loyal to an artist for the span of their career, but they must remain current to keep my attention. The oldest album I'm listening to regularly is from 2007. Stevie and FM seem to have a hard time actually making new music. I don't dwell on the past with any other artists, and Fleetwood Mac is no exception.

Stevie's new album will hold my attention for a few years, I'm sure - but good grief, how many times can I possibly listen to Wild Heart, or Tusk again? I've probably heard them all thousands of times each in their entirety!

This is my reason as well. the discussion is what I'm here for. Even if I don't listen to The Mac much...and I don't at this point. I still love coming here:thumbsup:
