.... they basically just redid the Dixie Chicks cover of it.
Awful, imo. Gwyneth sounds fine but the whole thing is completely stoic. Sucked all the meaning out of the song. I can't even get through it... And it really bugs me that they covered a COVER of it.

I like it too... I've always liked the way the Chicks did this song. So is that Gwyneth singing?

It's Gwyneth on lead. Apparently there's some discrepancy as to who is doing the backing vocals - I guess we will find out on March 8th during the episode lol.

Like, it kind of sucks that Stevie shows up to watch them film it, and they aren't even singing it the way it was written. They're singing it like the Dixie Chicks.

Sorry this Glee cover of a cover BLOWS!
I am a fan of the Dixie Chicks version, but c'mon! Glee generally will do something original, this is so NOT original just an outright copycat version of the DC's and not as good.
So basically I'm pretty sure there will be no reference of Stevie on the show. The only good thing to come of this is for Stevie's bank account!:(

It's just an arrangement. She was thrilled when she made all that money off the Dixie Chicks. And, this will do the same thing for her. It's like when Dolly Parton cashed in on Whitney's version of "I Will Always Love You"... as Stevie said about this Glee thing - "the writer always gets paid, the writer is king." She's not going to be too concerned with the arrangement.

I understand that in the end it's all the same... but I do SOMETIMES like to kid myself into thinking that Stevie cares about a just a little bit more than money lol. I'm sure she's happy that her song is yet again reaching a new audience, but it's just blatantly obvious that this cover was not inspired by Stevie at all.
And it's not like they even tried to do anything different to it to make this arrangement their own. They just sung it EXACTLY like Dixie Chicks did, so you might as well go listen to the Dixie Chicks sing it. It also partially bugs me because I feel like Glee has gotten lazy - they know that their songs will sell no matter what, so they've stopped trying to anything inventive or invigorating with the songs like they did in the beginning, and just started putting out cruddy karaoke versions of stuff with arrangements that are carbon copies of the originals (in this case, the original being the DC cover).

I wish Gwyn would stop this singing crap. She shows up everywhere singing and it is annoying. It seems like she can't get any movies, so she has just decided to parlay that into song. This version is stupid, as the kids that watch this show will go to the Dixie Chicks version as the original; not Stevie's. I hope that they make sure to mention that this is a Stevie Nicks song in the episode. I don't watch the show because I think its stupid, but I respect it since it isn't a reality show about sluts and idiots. I think they have to have a competition at the end of every season. Stevie should cameo as a guest judge in that epi (which would probably air in May, close to her album dropping). If I'm not mistaken, I believe I read that Olivia Newton-John did this. They could use a new song or two in the background of a scene, and air commercials promoting the album. It would be great promotion!

A defanged "Landslide."
And it wasn't as if it had much fang to begin with.
Still, it means that the song is a classic (or a stunted perennial). Those of you who used to buy songbooks in the 1970s & 1980s remember that it was "Don't Stop" & "Go Your Own Way" that almost always made it into pop song anthologies. But I betcha "Landslide" is what gets included most of the time nowadays.

I think it's alright. But I agree that it sounds reminiscent of the Dixie Chicks version. I liked the Dixie Chicks version a lot but I was hoping that the Glee cover would be more true to the original Fleetwood Mac version.
Now I know why Stevie wanted to go down and meet them - she wanted everyone to know that it is in fact her song, & not the Dixie slut's song :D

Unfortunately I'm following a bunch of Glee fans on tumblr and I've seen a lot of people accrediting the song to the Dixie Chicks (which isn't completely innacurate because they DID cover the Dixie Chicks arrangement of it, but still, blah)... I'm just blindly hoping they mention Stevie or FM in the actual episode.
Well, it's still money in Stevie's pocket I s'pose!

I hated the DC version and I strongly dislike this one as well. Then again I dislike most Stevie covers with the exception of Smashing Pumpkin's Landslide and White Widow's Lady from the Mountain. Oh and I loved the spoof of The Wild Heart dressing room scene! This however, gets a thumbs down.

I'd bet more people know the song from the Dixie Chicks or being warbled on American Idol than Stevie actually singing it.
Regardless, it's a chestnut of a song and will be around long after Stevie, and will always be open for new arrangements, good and bad.

Seriously, most of these kids may only have known the Dixie Chicks version. It could also be why the guy bringing Stevie on the set introduced her as "the lady who wrote the song..." which I thought was a strange intro at the time but makes sense in this context.
It's mind blowing in a way to me how what's relevant to me is not even on someone else's radar. But most kids listen to what's current. I taught a youth group for a couple of years and was always blown away when they had no idea who artists were that I grew up listening to and thought were still "known". I had to start listening to current music just to keep up with them. "Landslide" was released in 1975...someone born in 1985-1990 would more than likely be familiar with the Dixie Chicks 2002 version.
By the way, remember Stevie herself did the DC arrangement with them. I don't know what's so awful about it. It's an acoustic song anyway, this just brings the "countryness" of the song to the forefront. However, the DC's music track was far suberb to Glee's.
.... they basically just redid the Dixie Chicks cover of it.

I've always liked the Dixie Chicks version of the song. It was probably more convenient for the cast of Glee to cover the Chicks' take on the song than the Mac's more stripped down version. Just having the song done on Glee is more than enough of a compliment. As long as STEVIE NICKS is mentioned somewhere in the episode, I'll be more than okay with it!

Based on digital sales, it's likely Glee cover of "Landslide" will crack the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
And if that doesn't turn your stomach, this will:
Billboard reported on Feb. 16 that the "Glee" cast surpassed Elvis' record for most entries on the Hot 100 singles chart by placing 113 songs on the chart, besting Elvis Presley's 108 chart entries that he logged between the survey's inception in 1958 and and his last posthumous release in 2003.

Not to be snarky, but I have to ask why this is a bad thing? A show about music, that introduces all kinds of music to an entire generation that might not otherwise get any exposure to the artists and songs represented seems like a great thing to me. No amount of Billboard chart figures will ever take away or diminish the integrity of the original artists and recordings. Additionally, the cast almost always mentions the original artist in the show.
I believe Glee is well written and has actual cultural value, unlike most of the garbage that is on TV.
I don't understand why the charting of their songs should be stomach turning.

<img style="visibility:hidden;width:0px;height:0px;" border=0 width=0 height=0 src="http://c.gigcount.com/wildfire/IMP/CXNID=2000002.0NXC/bT*xJmx*PTEyOTk3MjMyMDc3NjcmcHQ9MTI5OTcyMzIxMzc3MCZwPTEwNjM2NjImZD*mZz*yJm89OTA2MTdiNjI3ZDRhNDYxMzlj/MTViNmE1YTExY2FjYjYmb2Y9MA==.gif" /><object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="410" data="http://vids.perezhilton.com/plugins/player.swf?v=d42ea48d7134e&p=vega4-without-ads-transparent-flp&autoplay=false" height="308" id="embedded_player"><param name="movie" value="http://vids.perezhilton.com/plugins/player.swf?v=d42ea48d7134e&p=vega4-without-ads-transparent-flp&autoplay=false"/><param name="bgcolor" value="#000000"/><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"/><param name="base" value="http://vids.perezhilton.com"/><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"/></object>
And good lord, Gwyneth is singing all over the place lately, in't she?
The two young girls have been 'friends with benefits' I guess you could say for basically the entirety of the show... in this episode they were trying to work out their actual feelings and confusion regarding their sexuality (mainly Santana was struggling with this) etc. Gwyneth's character was counseling them and suggested they sing a song to express their feelings... Santana said she knew what song to sing.... and it was somehow Landslide.

I don't think it's unexpected that it was Landslide. The song is about taking a critical look at where your life is headed and how your relationship may or may not factor into that. Santana needed to take a critical look at her feelings for Brittany and decide if they were worth taking on the stigma of a non-straight sexuality. She decided they were. It's an incredibly mature and intense decision and the use of Landslide to guide her through it was beautiful.

The girl who was crying did a good job, she brought emotion into that. I guess they did the Chicks version to give the other two girls an excuse to sing.

Oh I loved it.. I thought the song was used in the best context it could've been regarding "Glee" and their story-lines.. And loved the Stevie line they used.. Me and my GF have been big Glee fans for a while and I thought it was only a matter of time before Stevie and/or Fleetwood Mac got a mention..
Now all that is needed is Blaine from the warblers to sing Edge of 17 to Kurt lol :xoxo:

Oh, I didn't meant in regards to the meaning of the song connecting with the storyline. I guess somehow was a bit confusing. I just meant in regards to Santana's character (bitchy, superficial 16 year old cheerleader) up until this point - it just seemed strange to me that she would automatically think of Landslide of all songs simply BECAUSE it was such a mature take on things.. however, lots of things about Santana came out last episode that weren't there before, so I guess it's all the same.

Fleetwood Mac's 'Landslide': Story Behind Gwyneth Paltrow's 'Glee' Cover
Holly Holliday revisited the classic made famous by Stevie Nicks on latest episode.
By Aly Semigran
Gwyneth Paltrow is back, Gleeks, and she's brought the legendary Stevie Nicks with her.
After weeks of waiting, the Academy Award-winning actress, who has more recently been spending her time performing onstage at various awards shows, including the Oscars and the Grammys, finally returned to reprise her "Glee" character, flighty substitute teacher Holly Holliday.
During her turn on Tuesday night's (March 8) episode, titled "Sexy," Paltrow, who made a lasting impression last time around thanks to her giddy (and squeaky-clean) take on Cee Lo Green's "Forget You," took on an entirely different sound when she sang the moving Fleetwood Mac classic "Landslide."
Accompanied by twangy guitars and a banjo, Paltrow drew on her country music chops (heard most recently in her 2010 drama "Country Strong") as she covered the timeless tune. But even before getting the "Glee"/Gwyneth treatment, "Landslide," written by Nicks, has long been considered a treasure of the Fleetwood Mac catalog.
In 1973, 25-year-old Nicks penned the song during a stay in the snowy mountains of Colorado. Although there have been various theories regarding who — or what — the song is about, the singer set the record straight during a visit to VH1's "Storytellers" in 1998.
"Everybody, everybody seems to think that I wrote this song about them — everybody in my family, all my friends, everybody," Nicks said on the show. "And my Dad, my Dad did have something to do with it, but he absolutely thinks that he was the whole, complete reason that it was ever written."
She went on to explain just how the song came to be, "[Bandmate] Lindsey [Buckingham] and I went up to Aspen and we went to somebody's incredible house and they had a piano and I had my guitar with me and I went in their living room, looking out over the incredible Aspen sky and I wrote 'Landslide.' "
The song, which includes such lyrics as "I saw my reflection in the snow-covered hills/ Till the landslide brought me down," would become a turning point in the careers of Nicks and collaborator Buckingham, who was also her boyfriend at the time. As she told the "Storytellers" audience, "Three months later Mick Fleetwood called on New Year's Eve 1974 and asked us to join Fleetwood Mac."
"Landslide" was initially released on Fleetwood Mac's self-titled 1975 album, but it wasn't actually released as a single (despite being a fan favorite) until 1998, when a live version of the song appeared on the Fleetwood album The Dance and hit airwaves. It peaked at #10 on Billboard's adult contemporary chart and hit #51 on the Hot 100 that year.
The sentimental and deeply personal song, with its simple, yet effective guitar chords and lyrics like "Well, I've been afraid of changing/ 'Cause I've built my life around you" found its way into the hearts and onto the records of other inspired artists, most notably the Smashing Pumpkins and the Dixie Chicks.
The Smashing Pumpkins released their version of "Landslide" on their 1994 B-sides album, Pisces Iscariot. The cover went on to be one of the rock band's most-beloved tracks and even had the approval of Nicks herself. As she told fans during a 1998 online chat with SonicNet, "There's nothing more pleasing to a songwriter than [someone else] doing one of their songs. ['Landslide'] also led me to being friends with Billy [Corgan] and the possibility that we'll work together," she said of the Smashing Pumpkins frontman. "Over this song, there's been this incredible connection ... he reached out ... I believe that my poetry is really meant for everyone, no matter what age."
Nearly 10 years later, chart-topping country trio the Dixie Chicks created their own rendition of "Landslide." Released on their 2002 album, Home, the trio's cover also became a favorite among fans.
With its debut on Glee, "Landslide," proves that it continues to be a song that speaks to many generations, moving listeners years after Nicks first shared the song with the world more than 35 years ago.

Stevie Nicks On Her Favorite Songs: A Music Mix Exclusivere
by Leah Greenblatt, March 9, 2011

The Wide World of Web is buzzing today with talk about Gwyneth Paltrow’s version of Fleetwood Mac’s classic 1975 ballad “Landslide,” from her second guest spot on Glee last night.
Even those who think Gwyneth should have been headed off at the pass before making Country Strong were knocked out by the Oscar-winning actress’ quiet, subdued version of the Stevie Nicks ballad.
Like a great many songs from the classic rock era, “Landslide” has been covered countless times—by the Dixie Chicks, the Smashing Pumpkins, Stacey Kent, and now Glee—but in a strange turn of fate, none of these versions suck. In fact, most of them are quite good: not necessarily inventive, but they all successfully capture the solitary wistfulness in the White-Winged Dove’s original.
Which cover of Stevie Nicks’ “Landslide” makes your eyes the mistiest? Listen to them here and take our poll at the bottom!

I honestly like all versions of this song. I think I likes Nicks with the Melbourne Orchestra the best though. The dixie chicks version is great because of the added harmonies and so is glee. Corgans and kent were more personal.

I watched this last night.
It was great to hear a Stevie song on Glee, but now that I've seen it I have to admit I wasn't that impressed. The way it was fit into the story of the show was sweet, but I'd have much rather heard it done without Gwynneth Paltrow leading the vocals.
