before i write my essay, just thought id mention, i searched for a new members say hi thread but i couldnt find any but if ive missed it, very sorry :sorry:
So my name is Dan, from england and have just recently discovered fleetwood mac PROPERLY!
i had already heard a few of the songs(through my parents) but have never sat down properly to listen to them and appreciate them for how i would eventually do so.
I was playing GTA one day and then "edge of seventeen" came up on the game radio. I had already heard it on school of rock but never paid attention as such. But then this song really stood out to me right then and so i decided to go search up the song on youtube where i could hear it properly. after listening to it, i looked at other videos, which then came up with Rhiannon live. I was unsure why it came up but then i suddenly realised it was stevie nicks who sang at the time. I already knew of the song but had never heard a live version....and i can say is that i was blown away how good it was.
I then had "The Green Manalishi" playing by judas priest, then someone telling me it was a cover of Fleetwood mac, so i listened to that version and was hooked just as much. So a couple of months before this Christmas(2010), i started really digging deep with the live videos available on youtube. By that time, i had Rhiannon live playing 10 times a night before going to bed!.
Deciding to buy the double CD greatest hits was probably the best decision i made before christmas and was just blown away by how good Lindsey and Stevie are. After downloading numerous live bootlegs, i was hooked(as i still am now), my love for the band have just got stronger and stronger ever sinse. I have got a few cd's and just recently starting a Vinyl collection, added a few Mac records to the list. Ironically, i bought Rumours for £1 a couple of weeks back, then just finding out i bought it 1 day before its 34th anniversery(spooky!)
so up until now, plenty of bootlegs, lots of demos and sessions, vinyls, CD,....and so much love for Stevie and Lindseys epic guitar work. Only after this short time, the impact they have had on me have made them my 2nd favourite band of all time in such a short time, its unbelievable!
sorry for this long rant, but i really needed to get this out in the open as i feel this to me is extremely emotional to me, and hopefully you will read this and feel the love in this ! and please please dont delete this, as this is from the heart(and has taken a long time to write!)
and now im here, to talk Mac with all you fans, i feel i will really enjoy this forum and learn much i hope!
thanks
dan :D
(i may have missed things from my mental diary, theres lots to remember at the time!)

Welcome to the Ledge Dan! I kinda knew the band in a strange way (heard of the name, thought the name and cover of Tango in the Night looked cool, etc.) till I was about 17 (I'm 20 now), heard Go Your Own Way, and the rest is history.
In the meantime, what's your fave Mac song?

this is a tough one but would have to be rhiannon but the live version.

this is the exact video that left me demanding more!

this version left me with many chills especially at 5.54, simply because i had never heard vocals THAT brilliant.
both these videos are the cause so both of these will be my all time NO1 and NO2. unfortuantly, i still have yet decided which one takes the top spot and i really doubt in years to come i would have made my mind up then!

This is the clearest quality I've ever seen of this video! No wonder it hooked you! Plus, because the video is so clear, the sound is superb also.
Welcome to The Ledge. We're all addicted.

Very good choices! I can't really decide between those 2 myself, but the second one (fans call it the Rosebud version cause of the doc it came from) might have the edge in this case. Nicksy is nuts in that version. If you gimme some time, I could find you an even clearer version of it that was taken from this rare interview.
As for me, I think I used Video2MP3 (it's a website that converts the audio of YouTube vids into MP3s) on one of 'em and put it on my MP3 player. Hell, I just can't get enough of either version

in all honesty, i find that just not quite 100% quality of it MAKES it for me. especially in the case when i too used a youtube converter bringing the quality down ever more. It really makes it work and it brings out the rawness of Stevie i believe. Best heard when in a quiet mental zone or area :D

Yeah you're right, it does bring it down. With La Nicks, you have a range from the rawness of Rosebud Rhiannon to the sheer awesomeness that is Sisters of the Moon from the Mirage show (yes, the one where she starts talking in tongues towards the end). Speaking of great Stevie performances, have you ever seen Gold Dust Woman from the Japan show? (look up Japan 1977 on YouTube, the whole show rules)

ive seen clips of the 77 japan show, The chain was a good performance from that, but i will always prefer the 82 Chain(when lindsey just goes on a guitar frenzy!, and also downloaded that aswell :D)
yea, i have seen the sisters of the moon when shes in tongues but i could never get my head around mid video, with a slight jump of some kind?? But i have got a few live bootlegs downloaded with the live versions not jumpy as such witch is better to me. Sisters of the moon funny enough is my 2nd or 3rd favourite song ever. I havent made my mind up over Sisters of the moon or Im so afraid(live version from the 1980 live double disk in particular) :)

I love both SOTM (fave might be Mirage show, but Tusk doc one is good too) and I'm So Afraid (that song made me realize how kickass Liddy Buck is on the guitar and was simply awesome when I saw the Mac in 09). A good bootleg I heard of that song is Nashville 1977 (it's awesome, but the best part is the jam at the beginning: Mick plays a cowbell :p). The live 1980 album version is cool too, but the Dance version is great too (yes, I'm still yet to see the Dance folks, so feel free to lynch me )
EDIT: And I saw you mentioned you liked Metallica too. Creeping Death is a great song, but my fave would have to be Fade to Black. I love the buildup from calmness to badassery, but I also love Disposable Heroes, Battery, and Orion (especially Cliff's bass solo). Hell, I love any of their stuff from before the Black Album and thrash metal in general (I'm starting to get more into Slayer and I enjoy Sepultura, Machine Head, and now Death)
And this might be a bit sudden, but do you have a Facebook?

yea, well forgive me for grabbing it more easily in such a short space but ive downloaded loads of soundboards and audience recordings.(about 3 to 4 gig already), including the 77 nashville!, i have been going on download crazy for them(dont worry, i have bought official cd's and vinyls too!). my main aim is try to try and get loads and loads of different versions of rhiannon but i am sensing the variety of performances are very much simmaler now i have lots!
yea, i prefer the early Metallica to the modern albums(going to see them for the first time at sonisphere this year which im very much looking forward too!!!!), very much into my thrash and new wave british heavy metal etc of 70's and 80's... and then into the heavier still of my favourite band Cradle Of Filth who are extreme death metal or whatever you want to call them depending on what focus on the timeline!

I have no problem with getting bootlegs. My issue is trying to find out what's good and what's not, so that's why. Either way, your taste in music rules.
In the meantime, how old are you?

Don't we all?
Anyway, it's nice to have more people around here that are into heavier music. I like a ton of different kinds of music, but I'm very much a metal kid at heart.
