-- 02/10/11 --

Rock 'n Roll's reigning queen Stevie Nicks will be releasing her highly anticipated new CD "In Your Dreams" on May 3rd, it was announced today by Reprise Records. This will be Nicks' first CD of new material since the release of her Grammy nominated "Trouble in Shangri-La" ten years ago. "In Your Dreams" was written and recorded at Nicks' Los Angeles home and is co-produced by Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard. Nicks and Stewart co-wrote seven of the album's thirteen songs.

"I had written a song in Brisbane, Australia when I was on tour with Fleetwood Mac in 2009 called 'Moonlight -- A Vampire's Dream' which was inspired by the 'New Moon' film. When I finished writing that song, which came together really quickly, I knew the time was right to start recording. We had a core group of five people who were at the heart of the creation of 'In Your Dreams.' Dave and myself, my longtime friend and musical director, Waddy Wachtel, and my girls, Sharon Celani and Lori Nicks. It was a perfect blend," commented Nicks.

"This was one of the most extraordinary experiences I've had making a record. It is the first album that I have had this kind of collaboration since the making of Rumours. Dave created a situation where I could be totally creative and focused on writing songs and making music. I cannot remember ever having this much fun making a record. Writing the songs and recording them in my home studio was the key element in how this music turned out. It made the whole process seem very similar to how we used to work back in the day," she concluded.

The first single "Secret Love" written by Nicks is currently on iTunes. "It was 1976 and Fleetwood Mac was opening for Peter Frampton at the time. It was written about a forbidden relationship -- not Peter and I," laughed Nicks. "I always knew that one day I was going to record the song."

Nicks is currently gearing up to join forces with fellow rocker Rod Stewart for the 16 city Heart & Soul Tour, one of the most anticipated music events of the year... The first show is scheduled on March 20th in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Stevie Nicks is a multi Grammy Award winner and Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame inductee. Her extraordinary career as a solo artist, songwriter, live performer and member of Fleetwood Mac is legendary. Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" was one of the biggest selling albums of all time. She has penned such Mac classics as "Landslide," "Dreams," "Gold Dust Woman" and "Rhiannon." As a solo artist, beginning with the five time platinum debut "Bella Donna," her solo hits include unforgettable singles such as "Edge of Seventeen," "Leather and Lace" and "Stand Back."

Perhaps I am in the minority, but this really excites me! I have had an obsession with vampires since way before the lamestream obsession hit. I hate that out of all the amazing vampire stories, Twilight was the one to inspire her, but I don't think this hampers the potential. I think this song could very well be very dark and cryptic. Perhaps a vampiric counterpart to Rhiannon, Stevie stepping back into the darkness she came out of in Bella Donna. Inspiration aside, I think the song and content could be amazing!

Diddo, I love Stevie because of the atmosphere. This song could be worthy of an Anne Rice novel, and she is by far my favorite author—a dark, sensual materpiece.

That's the Stevie I love too mystic and atmospheric. AND at its core, new moon is about being in love with 2 people at the same time
That is something I'm SURE Stevie Nicks can write about

This one could really go either way.The more loosely it is based on the "Twilight" movie the better though IMO.I'm certainly willing to withhold judgement until I hear the song. After all one of my favorite Stevie songs ever is one about a lamp given to her by her mom.

Concrete Blonde based a whole album on Anne Rice's novel Lestat and it was by far the best thing they ever did. The album was called Bloodletting.

It's going to be nice to get some Gothic Stevie. The Wild Heart sounded sorta gothic to me.

There is also Annabel Lee which is totally awash in Gothic imagery.

This could be really good. I'm willing to bet she just drew some ideas from the movie, and isn't going to be writing a Ballad to Edward or anything of the sort :)

Sure, it's one thing to be "inspired" by a banal novel/movie series. But it's another thing to actually use the title of the movie in the song! Surely it's not the first time she's done this, e.g., "Beaty and the Beast," but at least she used a classic movie before. I mean, what if she was "inspired" by a Harry Potter movie and she wrote a song called "Hogwarts: A Wizard's Dream." The only good I can see in this is that she wrote this song very recently, so it will be a true reflection of where she is at currently as a songwriter. It may also be the first time she's written a song about something other than herself, that is, unless she takes on the voice of a vampire in this song.

Trying to be positive here!

Stevie's song is called "Moonlight". The Twilight film which inspired her is called "New Moon". Yes the word "moon" is in both titles, but she didn't actually USE the title of the movie, as you suggest.

I'm choosing to look at this song like it'll be the next Illume. Remember how Illume has (9/11) next to it? But unless you knew the back story from Stevie herself, you'd never guess it was a song about the terrorist attacks. I think Stevie's classier than just making blatant references... she always has been. For instance, according to her, Edge Of 17 is about John Lennon's murder. God knows, none of us would have ever been able to pick that one out had she not explained it to us. With the exception of That Made Me Stronger, Stevie's not very literal. I'm hoping it'll be the same way for this Twilight inspired song!!

Before we overreact, let's think back to all the things that have "inspired" Stevie to write songs:

-The OJ Simpson trial ("TISL")
-Monica Lewinsky ("Everybody Finds Out")
-A candle ("Illume")
-A cheesy airport novel ("Rhiannon")
-A highway sign ("Silver Springs")
-A lamp ("Blue Lamp")
-A crappy B-movie ("Wide Sargasso Sea")

And I think most of those songs turned out OK... :-)

At least it's guaranteed to be better than the movie. But it's still aiming low. Kate Bush was inspired by movie adaptations such as The Innocents and Wuthering Heights. Stevie was once inspired by Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast (and, apparently, digs Gone with the Wind--STAND BACK!) but I can't even imagine how New Moon--not the book! not the first Twilight movie (which is a better movie than any Stevie album has been album)!!--but New Moon the movie could inspire her or anyone beyond Taylor Lautner's emergence as a screen dream(though I preferred him in the first movie too). I WISH she had done a song for Red Riding Hood (which is bout to rock my world).

True, true, all of the above. But what strikes me about the new song is that the subject matter is so close to the inspiration. It's one thing if she wrote a song about the relationships among the main characters in the movie in a generic kind of way. But this is literally about vampires, which would be like her writing a song called "Silver Springs: Dreams of a Highway Sign."

How do we know it's about vampires? She has said it was "inspired by" the movies. And if you reference the "A Vampire's Dream" in the title, I'll point you to "Doing the Best that I Can (Escape from Berlin)".

The connection to Berlin is a bit of a head scratcher, but at least she had the honesty to put it in parentheses, i.e., "in words unspoken..."

Since it is highly unlikely that the phrase "A Vampire's Dream" could be a recurrent refrain in the song (at least I hope not), I am guessing that this will be one of those Stevie songs where the song title does not get mentioned (or barely mentioned) in the lyrics, e.g., "Dreams," "Gate and Garden," "Sable on Blond," "The Nightmare," "Battle of the Dragon," "Edge of Seventeen," etc. Let's just hope the imagery is gothic but stops short of baring fangs and sucking blood.

Yes, I have been attracted to vampires. It started in my childhood. I'm not sure I needed a song about them, but as everyone has pointed out, it's not like TISL is about the OJ Simpson trial. So, there might not be any cause for concern.

And for the gothic part, to me the main tension in a good vampire story is the same as it is in Jane Eyre. We can never be together and the longing for something that can never be might not be just dangerous, but deadly. The song can easily capture that theme without any stakes through the heart.

Do you guys realize Stevie in this article is saying that not only did she write a song about Twighlight:

"I had written a song in Brisbane, Australia when I was on tour with Fleetwood Mac in 2009 called 'Moonlight -- A Vampire's Dream' which was inspired by the 'New Moon' film. When I finished writing that song, which came together really quickly, I knew the time was right to start recording."

So the TISL album catalyst is OJ SImpson and In Your Dreams is the Twighlight saga

I think she is just saying that writing the new song..apparently the first she had written in a couple of years, gave her the inspiration to make another album .It does not indicate to me that the theme of the album is the Twilight movie, after all it isn't even the title of the album. However if one of those lame teenybopper films inspried her to finally record again perhaps that is the sole redeaming quality that they posses.

What is the issue? Hearing that Stevie Nicks did a song called "Moonlight" would have shocked NO ONE. and the word Dreams is no surprize either. so it must be the "vampire" that is the problem? is that what it is? It is my belief that when we hear it, it will be a cool song. Dark, like some have mentioned before hopefully along the lines of Sisters of the moon, or Straight back. ALSO, like many have already mentioned, We dont really go around calling the songs what she extends them to be called anyway. illume 9-11, IN THE STILL OF THE NIGHT how still my love, doing the best that i can ESCAPE FROM BERLIN, if anyone falls IN LOVE, I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A storm, i just have a feeling when this song comes out we will all be refering to it as "MOONLIGHT? wich sounds beautiful.

Anywho, Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard, while it looks like their careers were fruitful back in the day, their more recent work I have never heard of. 1976 was Don Henley, a "forbidden" love because his band was their biggest rival on the charts?

Or it was someone else - I mean it was a secret after all. We only make assumptions and draw conclusions based on the stuff that's been put out there. She wrote the song in 1976 but it could have been about a relationship prior...

She knew the time was right to start recording... WITHOUT Fleetwood Mac?!?!

That's what Lindsey gets for saying "we don't have a new album to promote...YET" every night of the Unleashed tour....

We are talking about Stevie Nicks here. I'm sure she has had many relationships that we don't know about. The woman has needs... No one should want to deprive her.

Stevie seems to have a lot of epiphanies in Australia..maybe I should go there.

They don't call it Oz for nothing.

“I fell in love with Mick [Fleetwood] at the end of the Rumours tour in 1978 while I was still on rocky ground with Lindsey. Fortunately Mick and I ended it for the sake of the band."

It was consummated in 1978. You can love someone without consummating the relationship. After all, it was a secret love.

knowing that she knows of the twilight saga and has even took the time to watch it makes me wonder ..

FALSE.

We all know that she ONLY writes songs about Lindsey...and occasionally Mick and Don Henley.

I thought Stevie has only ever gotten one Grammy. Am I wrong? The article calls her a multi Grammy award winner.

You are absolutely correct. Stevie's won one Grammy: for Fleetwood Mac's album of the year in 1977: Rumours. She's been nominated 7 other times, though... with and without Fleetwood Mac. I've seen this whole multi-Grammy award winning artist title given to Stevie several times... it's obviously not true. It's either lazy journalism or propaganda :p

Yet another possibility...

Does anyone know what the other 7 nominations were for?

Stevie apparently holds the record for the most nominations for Female Rock Vocal without a win:

Edge of 17
Stand Back
Talk To Me
Whole Lotta Trouble
Planets Of The Universe

Silver Springs was nominated for Rock Vocal Performance.

She obviously won the Grammy in '77 for album of the year with her Fleetwood Mac cohorts :)

Wow! With the exception of "Street Angel" (go figure) and the greatest hits/box set compilations, she's been nominated for a song off of EVERY solo record she's released. That's awesome!

"Live at Red Rocks" was also nominated for long form video in 88'.

It was also on the trailer for Crystal Visions, but it actually IS correct! Stevie has won two Grammys.

1977- Album of the Year- Rumours- Fleetwood Mac* (Lindsey Buckingham*, Mick Fleetwood*, Christine McVie*, John McVie*, Stevie Nicks*), artist. Fleetwood Mac* (Lindsey Buckingham*, Mick Fleetwood*, Christine McVie*, John McVie*, Stevie Nicks*), Ken Caillat & Richard Dashut, producers.

* Between 1965 and 1980, a self-produced artist received one GRAMMY Award as an artist and an additional GRAMMY Award as a producer in Record of the Year and Album of the Year categories.

Stevie won two Grammys for "Album of the Year". One for artist and one for producer. Not as prestigious as winning two seperate awards, but since she technically won two they definitely market it that way :)

Was The Dance nominated for anything? I want to say Album of the Year, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, as soon as I hit "Submit post" that thought occurred to me. Thanks! And welcome!
