View Full Version : Heart & Soul Setlist Predictions

OK don't laugh too hard, but what are everyone's thoughts on this?

To the best of my knowledge, Heart & Soul is being billed as a greatest hits tour.

Basically, we should expect zero change with the setlist as is, right? ;)

Some questions..

How long will her set be?
Will there be any new songs to look forward too?
Will 'Love Is' make the cut this year?
Will some of the lesser played singles/hits make an appearance?
Will she drop some of those unnecessary covers in favor of originals?
Will Leather and Lace end up being one of the duets?

It's a lazy Sunday ;)

Well, she already said she was not performing new music before it is officially released so that covers most of the material on the new CD except Secret Love and possibly the next single.

Wow. After all of the generally positive vibes flowing through here about Stevie's new album, you want to go and dredge up the nastiness of the Summer of 2010 and start a new hate thread about Stevie's set list. >sigh<

Here's one thread to definitely avoid in order to keep in a positive mood! :)

^^^Please disregard this stupid post of mine! I misread the original post and I'm sorry.

I'm expecting the same old songs. With the covers being dropped for time, and her adding in Leather and Lace to sing with Rod Stewart.

It'll be her own solo tour that'll be interesting. Since it's her first proper "tour" since she gave that interview where she said she wants to sing Sable on Blonde... really, that's the only song I'm desperate for her to do live

Mikebise, that was not my intention at all! I just meant to start a conversation. I'm excited for the show regardless of the set.

I'm sorry. I misread your post to begin with anyway, so any negativeness came from me, for which I apologize. Very sincerely, I'm sorry.

I still keep hoping there's a H&S date announced for Dallas!

I was just walking my dog Dino and imagining Rod's voice singing along with Stevie on "Leather And Lace"... Ooh, I think that could be epic!

Who knows, I might just buy a ticket and hop on a plane at the last minute!

I would hope "Love Is" is still in the setlist. I would love to experience that live. If Stevie keeps a cover or two, I'd prefer "Face The Promise" over that Petty song, just my preference.

"Secret Love" should be in the set, I imagine, since Stevie will be teasing her new album and getting concert goers primed to buy it. I'm sure she'll mention In Your Dreams during the H&S tour, hoping to increase awareness and sales.

Some questions..

How long will her set be? about 75 minutes
Will there be any new songs to look forward too? Yes, Secret Love
Will 'Love Is' make the cut this year? Yes
Will some of the lesser played singles/hits make an appearance? No
Will she drop some of those unnecessary covers in favor of originals? Yes
Will Leather and Lace end up being one of the duets? Probably

I predict in order:

Fall From Grace
Outside The Rain
Dreams
Secret Love
Sorcerer
Rhiannon
Leather And Lace (w/ Rod)
Gold Dust Woman
Stand Back
Landslide
Edge Of Seventeen
Love Is

She may or may not add in If Anyone Falls and she may swap out L&L for Stop Draggin My Heart Around, but I think this is pretty much the set we can expect for this tour.

That's a song that should be performed live. I'll never understand her reasons for not including it in a set list. It would be a good show closer too.

I would like to think that with all the enthusiasim Stevie has shown over her new record, that she might actually use her solo tour to promote it. However, I have a feeling I would be wrong. I agree with others that I don't wanna bitch and moan already and take away from the excitement of having new material coming out. Still I can't really let myself get too excited, knowing that we are likely in for more of the same. Stevie already mentioned a while back that she may do up to three new songs. Wow! Really? (thats sarcasm). Then she goes on the make the same excuse she always does about people only wanting to hear her classic hits and so she has to play them, blah blah blah. The thing is, thats not really what she has been playing. Fall From Grace, Sorcerer, How Still my Love, Outside the Rain, and all the covers are not the songs most people are going to know her for. Yes, Dreams, 17, Stand Back, GDW, Landslide are all songs that most concert-goers, whether die hard fans or novices would expect or want to hear. But what about Talk To Me, Stop Draggin, I Cant Wait, Rooms on Fire... those were hits, and yet they are never included anymore. If shes gonna use that excuse, I just wish that what she actually played backed it up. I think it's probably actually disinterest on her part that accounts for the song choices. For most artists, touring for a new record means actually playing lots of songs from that record to help introduce people to it and drive album sales. Take Madonna for example, in 2001 on the Drowned World tour, it was her first tour in 8 years. Yet the setlist was all songs from Ray of Light, Music and Bedtime Stories. And on top of that she didnt even sing several of the released singles, instead it was some obscure album tracks. At the end of the show, she tacked on Holiday and La Isla Bonita. In 06 on the confessions tour, she played 10 of the 12 songs from that album. It can be done, and the people will still come and have a good time. Yeah, I know this is a rambling post and all, but if you can't tell, Im a bit passionate about this topic. I love Stevie, I will go see her no matter what, I will buy her record and spread the word. I just really wish she would not phone it in with another setlist that is a retread of the last ten years. Shake things up, really give us something new. If shes excited about her new record, then prove it and load up on some new songs. Anyway, thats what I think....

Good post and I agree that Stevie should balance out her set better. No one is suggesting she has to pull a Madonna and fill up her entire set with new songs, while ignoring her hits, but there's no reason why she couldn't do her signature songs - Stand Back, Edge of Seventeen, Landslide, Rhiannon, Gold Dust Woman, & Dreams, 6 songs from the new CD, and maybe 2 obscure tracks for the diehard fans - there you go, 14 songs. I don't think anybody would complain with a setlist like that. But I agree, if she's going to buy into the philosophy that her entire set needs to be filled with hits, with the exception of maybe 3 new songs, then she should practice what she preaches and routinely perform Talk To Me, Rooms On Fire, I Cant Wait, If Anyone Falls, Stop Draggin My Heart Around, and Leather & Lace in addition to her standard 6 "hit" songs.

I find it very odd when Stevie/Fleetwood Mac name a tour for the album they are promoting, yet include very little of that album in the set. The Mirage tour, for example, had only four songs from the album in the set.

Many progressive older bands, such as U2, have no problem radically changing their set lists to promote their new music, and at least a half of the album or more is performed. No one wines over "this or that song" not being performed. In fact, a lot of their older songs that gave them their initial success are not performed or rarely performed. Why? Because they have an abundant amount of newer songs in their catalog; they progressed, and their fans accept it as such.

There exsists this mentality in some people that if you go to see a show and they don't perform all the songs you know, the big hits, then it's not a satisfying show. That mindset alone is what some bands take to heart, and they let it limit them. And their shows became a stagnent Vegas review...not to unique and challenging, but to pander to masses -- not their true fans. It's a sad fact that the music has become a corporate industry, and for artists to be financially successful, some have to bow the pressure to do what is expected, sacrificing artistic growth.

I found it very suprising when Stevie toured behind 'The Other Side of the Mirror." She gave 'Rhiannon" a rest, and performed a decent amount of songs from the new album, unusual by her standards - almost half the album!

Rooms on Fire
Juliet
Two Kinds of Love
Whole Lotta Trouble
Alice

It's too bad she couldn't be nimble enough to swap out some of those songs for other songs on the album during the tour. Why should a set list be so set in stone? All the classic familiar songs were once new songs that people were hearing for the first time. In order to grow and progress you have to perform and sell the new songs, so 30 years down the road, you're not relying on songs you wrote and performed to death 30 years earlier! I hope Stevie has so much confidence in her new material that she will completely revamp her set list and include a large majority of her new album. Give the staple songs a good rest, and include older songs she's never performed live, like "Sable on Blonde. " It may surprise her that her fans will love it, and no one will be missing 'Stand Back." "Rhiannon." or "Dreams." I hope Dave Stewart will influence her in that direction.

In all fairness though, Stevie did break the 3-4 new song mold on the TISL tour, her last tour in support of new material. Throughout that tour she performed 6 new songs:

Sorcerer
Planets of The Universe
Every Day
Too Far From Texas
Fall From Grace
Bombay Sapphires

So there's hope in my opinion that if she feels as strongly about the new material as she has been claiming, that she'll do at least 5 new songs from IYD. Certainly she must be tired of doing covers at this point, no? :o

Since Dave seems to be so proactive and out of the box as a thinker why doesn't someone tweet him to let Stevie know what we think? If the Heart & Soul Tour is to be their hits, plus to showcase them as duet partners like the Two Voices Tour then I'd suggest she do those duets, plus some hit, and she could now do Secret Love since it will have been "released" by then and then tell people during that song, this is from my upcoming new album and I'll be back to play this new music live I'm so excited about. I mean get people pumped. So my suggestions for this tweet if someone were to do it would be:

Leather & Lace
Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
Stand Back (since they both have done it)
I Don't Want To Know
Twisted
Landslide
Whenever I Call You "Friend"

the on her own in her set

Rooms On Fire
Rhiannon
Dreams
Secret Love
Sorcerer
Fall From Grace
Edge of Seventeen
Love Is or Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You?

But PLEASE NO COVERS. You have too much of your own material.

I'm glad to see I'm not being ripped apart for my rambling post. I had a feeling it would strike a chord with a lot of others as well.
I just wanted to react to a few things that others have posted.
I do give her credit for the TISL tour setlist, she did in fact do a lot of songs from that album...but halfway through she dropped Planets and Bombay Sapphires, and Too Far from Texas was only done when Sheryl Crow was present. So actually only three songs made it through the entire tour.
I also really agree with the no covers concept. We are talking about an artist with 40 years of history, and mored than enough of her own material. If she was a new artist with one album to her name, then yeah, covers would fill out the set list. BUT, thats not the case, theres simply no need for them and its infuriating when we know that slot could have gone to one of her own songs instead.
If someone actually tweets Dave, I think they should challenge him to ask Stevie to do only her SOLO material. No FM stuff, leave that for the next FM tour. Lots of Artists who are in both a band and have a solo career manage to keep them seperate. Phil Collins had two careers for 30+ years. His solo tours never included Genesis material and vice-versa. I can only Imagine how awesome a solo only material tour could be if Stevie was to ever do it.

I think the reason she does so many covers comes down to the fact that she really just doesn't like alot of her own material - namely everything from RAL, TOSOTM, & SA. She routinely ignores these 3 albums and it doesn't appear she's likely to perform anything from them anytime soon - with the exception of course of HAEWAFY. It's a shame she feels this way, as she has stated on numerous occasions that her songs are her children - well, she's not being a very good mother as she has been neglecting half her children for many years now. :distress:

It'll never happen. Too much of her popularity has stemmed from her Fleetwood Mac success and her solo career has not been as consistent from that perspective. If she were a true singer/songwriter type who did not care about her popularity as much, I could see her doing that. But we all know how much she loves the big stage and her status as a rock icon, so leaving her FM hits out the set is just not an option for her.

WRONG. No Sheryl Crow in DALLAS, and Stevie performed "Too Far From Texas" there, along with "Every Day", "Planets Of The Universe", "Bombay Sapphires", "Sorcerer" and "Fall From Grace".

NO Sheryl Crow.

NO Sheryl Crow.

Same goes for her August 2001 show in Denver - Stevie performed 6 songs from TISL including Bombay Sapphires & TFFT AND Sheryl Crow was nowhere in site.:p

So while Stevie is on record (In 1 interview from last summer) as saying that she will only do @3 new songs from IYD. I wouldn't necessarily read into that as law. Fact is Stevie performed 6 new songs on the majority of the TISL tour and only dropped a couple towards the end of that tour. And Stevie was very exuberant about that record. BUT I would rank her excitement for "In Your Dreams" to be even higher than TISL. She is clearly amazed at the end result-exhaulting it as one of her finest hours, IF NOT her finest work entirely. So we will have to wait and see after this Heart & Soul tour commences, but she could easily work in 5+ new songs in her set & still have room for all of her classic hits solo & Mac.

If Stevie chooses to focus more of her attention on playing the Mac songs for her live shows it would be nice if she included Gypsy, Sara, Silver Springs, Seven Wonders, Sisters of the Moon, Angel etc. At least include the ones that still get radio play.
If it's going to be greatest hits set than there is really no sense in excluding her best known songs, regardless of whether they are not usually performed at her solo shows

Who said it's going to be a greatest hits set? Why should it be? Been there and done that for the last twenty years. I hope the set features mostly new songs (though it won't) and rarely performed if ever, solo stuff.

I really wish she wouldn't rely so heavily on her Fleetwood Mac songs. I understand how she needed those songs for her Bella Donna tour, to flesh out the set with some familiar songs. But she now has her own deep body of work to draw from, and a lot of it she has never performed. I would love it if she didn't perform any Fleetwood Mac songs. It would be a fresher, much better show!

If she wants to perform songs like Sisters of the Moon, she would have done it with Fleetwood Mac, which is context in which I would want to hear it.

Most people paying money to see Stevie perform would be disappointed without
Rhiannon", "Gold Dust Woman", "Landslide" and "Dreams". Stevie's performed them on TV solo ~ they're her songs!

I was disappointed in Houston & Austin in 1987 when "Gypsy" and "Rhiannon" were dropped from the Tango set, and even more in 1989 when "Rhiannon" was absent from The Other Side Of The Mirror tour. I'm not a "casual fan". My favourite songs are "Julia" and "If You Were My Love". But, in concert, I wanna see Stevie perform "Rhiannon"!

They are Stevie Nicks songs, Stevie Nicks hits. I praise Rhiannon Stevie will always perform them at every concert! :)

I assume that the majority of people who attend shows pay money to be there. My point is there are many long-standing, seasoned, older artists like Stevie. There are certain ones who don't (have to) rely on performing a particular set of hits (25 years-plus old) to satisfy their fans. They have a deep catalog of good songs, and they are not afraid to play them willing, knowing their true fans will accept and appreciate them.

Believe or not, some people are happy to enjoy a show for it is, and not for what you expect. It's the unexpected element, a difference, that makes a show special. Tom Petty is a good example of that. He performs whatever he wants. Yes, he plays a select portion of hits. But the set list is not carved in stone. Sometimes certain hits are performed, sometimes they are not. Either way, his fans aren't too concerned or are bitching about what they did not hear just because they paid money to be there.

I guess there is certain demographic of the Stevie fan base who just want her shows to be frozen in time. "It's all the same, it's all the same, it's all the same...Rhiannon!"

Some possible duets?

I Don't Want To Know would be amazing after seeing Rod duet it with someone else.
Whenever I Call You Friend would blow my mind. Could be amazing!

I am not familiar with Rod's entire catalogue but Do Ya Think I'm Sexy would be a great encore to duet together at the end. Even Hot Legs as long as Stevie has the boots on.

Infatuation would be good too as I think that is what Stevie wanted to name the Say You Will album. Thought of the title in a dream.

Baby Jane if it was really about Mary Jane...marijuana.

Tonight I'm Yours.

PLEASE NO CIRCLE DANCE. And I do not want Rod joining on Stand Back unless they do that dance together similar to when she would have that dancer join her in the middle. Could be funny.

Who know, but lets keeps speculating. The Don and Stevie choices were great except for Circle Dance and that Rock & Roll Star tune. I wanna see Stevie dancing and playing with Rod on stage. Crowd will love it. Know Stevie is back in full force, on her own, and will buy her new album.

I predict in order:

Fall From Grace
Outside The Rain
Dreams
Secret Love
Sorcerer
Rhiannon
Leather And Lace (w/ Rod)
Gold Dust Woman
Stand Back
Landslide
Edge Of Seventeen
Love Is

She may or may not add in If Anyone Falls and she may swap out L&L for Stop Draggin My Heart Around, but I think this is pretty much the set we can expect for this tour.

This sounds pretty plausible IMO. I don't think she will sing with Rod though. :sorry:
I think (AND HOPE) that she will do at least 3 or 4 more new tunes when she tours on her own this summer (assuming she will.)

"Blue Denim," "Rooms on Fire" and "Talk to Me?" That's fantasyland. Here is my prediction:

Outside the Rain
Dreams
Secret Love
If Anyone Falls
Rhiannon
Gold Dust Woman
Sorcerer
Landslide
Leather and Lace (with Rod)
Stand Back

Edge of Seventeen
Love Is

Stay With Me
Downtown Train
Rhythm of My Heart
Reason to Believe
Tonight's the Night
You're in My Heart
Have I Told You Lately
This Old Heart of Mine
Young Turks
Infatuation
Do Ya Think I'm Sexy
Maggie May

It Takes Two (with Stevie)
First Cut is the Deepest (with Stevie)

Rod's set seems a bit slow. I could see "Frist Cut" ttogether, but I honesly don't think they will sing together. If she didn't duet with Chris Isaak when they toured & he's a GOOD FRIEND, I doubt she's sing with Rod, who she barely knows. Hope I'm wrong. Of course, he is English & she hangs out with English people all the time, so...

Well, this thing with Rod appears to be more of a co-headlining tour (or at least Stevie, the opener, would like to think so!), whereas the tour with Chris Isaak was more of a "with special guest" situation. To have a major double-bill tour like this (arguably the biggest tour of the season?) and not have some kind of collaboration would be pretty disappointing. Personally I really just cannot imagine what those two voices would sound like together. I almost don't wanna know.

Didn't see another thread with this, so... Assuming there is a tour for IYD, and that Dave Stewart will be a part of it... What are your set predictions... Including the required hits/new songs

I think this would be doable, in no particular order:

Going to get these out of the way first...
1-Rhiannon
2-Landslide
3-Dreams
4-Gold Dust Woman
5-Edge of Seventeen
6-Stand Back

Hits that she should play...
7-Stop Draggin' My Heart Around (With Dave Stewart)
8-Leather and Lace (With Dave Stewart)
9-Talk To Me
10- Rooms On Fire

5 New songs...
11-Secret Love
12-New Song
13-New Song
14-New Song
15-New Song

I think this set would work the best... The hits everyone knows for casual fans... and 5 new songs from the new album, mixed in as to not give 'bathroom breaks' for casual fans...

I would be happy with this

Songs that I think will most likely be included, in no particular order;

Rhiannon
Landslide
Gold Dust Woman
Edge of 17
Stand Back
Dreams/Outside The Rain
Fall From Grace
Sorcerer

Songs I wouldn't be surprised to see her include;

If Anyone Falls
Secret Love
New Song #2
New Song #3

Songs she should include... but probably won't;

Sable on Blond. I'm sure she said she wanted to do this in concert.
Stop Dragging My Heart Around
Leather and Lace
Talk To Me
Rooms on Fire
Love Is - I loved this on her mini-tour, buuut, I think she might keep that as an exclusive to that mini-tour.

Although, I wouldn't be surprised to see the same setlist she used for her mini-tour, but swapping Love Is with Secret Love

Well, we have our answer from the new RS interview:

They're still working out the pacing, but there will be a portion of the shows where they sing together. "We won't let people down on that score," Stewart says, adding he hopes to tackle Nicks and Don Henley's 1981 duet, "Leather and Lace." Nicks wants to join Stewart on "The First Cut Is the Deepest" and "Reason to Believe." "That'd be a wonderful one," he says. "We're both sort of sopranos, so it'll sound great."

L&L would probably work well. Same with First Cut. I cannot even imagine both of them on Reason To Believe, which is probably my favorite Rod song. No thanks.

Oh. And, "both sort of sopranos?" LOLOLOLOLOLOL!

The idea of these two sixtysomethings bellowing their way through "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" or (God forbid) "Hot Legs" is enough to send my breakfast flying -- after I've already eaten it.

It might be an entertaining train wreck to some, but it would certainly prove to be the nadir of tastelessness in Stevie's illustrious career.

I guess that's his way of saying he knows they both have raspy voices.

I really hope Stevie goes balls to the wall and gives us some nice changes with this setlist, but I'm not holding my breath. I think the covers will be dropped and Circle Dance will be brought back and they will do Leather and Lace. I agree with 10KRedSolids with a few changes:

Outside The Rain
Dreams
Secret Love (Not even holding my breath on this one. It would be so logical for her to perform the new single, but I will believe it when I see it.)
Sorcerer
Rhiannon
Leather And Lace (with Rod)
Circle Dance (with Rod, but I'd really prefer to bring back Stop Draggin' My Heart Around or try to duet Talk To Me)
Gold Dust Woman (with Rod)
Stand Back
Landslide
Edge Of Seventeen
Love Is

But who knows. I think since they are billing this as them performing their "Greatest Hits", she should bring back most of her "hits"... Talk To Me, Stop Draggin My Heart Around, Leather and Lace, Seven Wonders (we need a live non konoplin version of this!), Gypsy, Whole Lotta Trouble, and Blue Denim along with Dreams, Rhiannon, Stand Back, Landslide, Edge, and kick us off with OTR then end the set with Secret Love, but it won't happen. I am not really interested in Stevie's set for this tour actually. I think she is holding out on any major changes for her summer tour. My favorite part of the Two Voices tour was her duets on Don's songs, so I am most excited about her duets on Rod's songs.

She said what??????????????????????????? I LOVE Sable on Blond...When did she say this????? I would love her beyond forever if she sang this♥:blob1:

Her 2009 interview with Larry Flick! He told her his all time favorite song ever is Wild Heart and it is such a shame she has never done it live and then she talks about how Wild Heart is soo complex and then she sings a line from it and then says this:

"However, the next time that I go out... myself, I am going to do a special part of my set where I actually bring the girls down and bring everybody down and I'm going to do kind of an interactive thing, and I'm going to pull out those songs... I'm going to pull out Kind Of Woman That Will Haunt You, and Wild Heart, and Blond On... Sable On Blond and some of those wild and crazy songs that have never been done! Because I want to! The creative side of me says 'this would be really fun for you to do these songs that you loved sooo much when you wrote them, but never had a chance to do' because people always want to hear the ones that are like the most familiar, the most hit-like even if they weren't singles, so now I'm going... so we've done that for what? FIFTY THOUSAND YEARS! So now I am going to do that and I am going to start bringing those songs back, because they deserve to be played!"

It is definitely my favorite interview of her in the past 20 years! She shows that she isn't so disconnected from her fans like we think she is. She talks about touring while she is still able to, but soon she will have to slow down because she wants to do the Rhiannon movie and release her art, release some EP's and publish a book of poetry that is never going to make it to the piano, but she can't do all this while she is doing these long ass tours, but she would still like to do 12 or so shows a year. It is an amazing interview! I recently tweeted Larry, telling him how much I loved the interview and that I hope he interviews her soon and he said he wants to! So here is to hoping! Here is the interview if you haven't heard it:

I hope you don't believe all these fairy tales? She'll never sing SOB in concert, release a Rhiannon Movie or a book of poetry. Release some EP's. LOL That's the funniest one of them all!!! She's said BS like this for scores of years just to sound more interesting to reporters.
