I was in LA this weekend, so I drove to Santa Monica the minute I saw that picture and scoped it out. No one came out on the balcony again during the 20 minutes that I was there, but Dave did affirm that they'd be shooting at an inside location and I have a really good feeling that they did all of this in the condo. She has a chance at being played on one of the VH1 channels. But mostly I suspect this is being made for YouTube. Still, considering the incredibly elaborate videos she has made in the past, why sully her legacy with something cheesy? This isn't a rap video featuring acres of marble, bottles of Kristal, hot tubs, ocean view balconies, etc. This is supposed to be a surreal dream-like accompaniment to a very dreamy, atmostpheric song. It would be cool if it took on the surreal vibe of the single cover artwork, but I'm not sure if that can be accomplished within the confines of Stevie's modernist aerie.

I'm sure the "Secret Love" vid will be fine. Yes, probably not as glossy and polished as her TISL videos, but aside from those and maybe "Rooms On Fire", I always thought her solo videos were sorta an afterthought, and not terribly elaborate considering that Stevie Nicks was such a visually compelling *Rock Star* in her heyday. I mean the video for "Gypsy" set the bar high, and after that she never really delivered a production on that scale again, as far as the total package; sets, extras, background dancers, theme, etc.(though she tried and failed with the Scarlett - Stand Back).

It's also worth mentioning "Rooms On Fire" was filmed at Stevie's rented mansion at that time, with the performance footage filmed on a soundstage. And that video was beautiful.

I'm still waiting for the quintessential Stevie Nicks solo video. Maybe Dave Stewarts film on Stevie will be the total package. Till then "Gypsy" will forever be in my mind the quintessential Stevie Nicks vid of them all.:nod:

Firstly, having lived in LA until a few years ago, I can tell you that many famous people live in very easy-to-access homes. Not everyone is on gated grounds. Hell, Faye Dunaway (Oscar winning actress) lived on a very well-traveled street a few blocks from my house in West Hollywood, and I'd see her carrying groceries from the car, or watering her lawn!

At the beach, most of the cool places to live are along Pacific Coast Highway, and people live there regardless of the traffic, in million $ beach cottages and hi-rise condos.

As for the video, does anyone watch VH-1 anymore? I haven't seen it on my cable system for quite awhile. I would suspect the video is for promotional purposes only, and YouTube is the most likely place we'll see it play. (Or clips of it as intros when she is doing any TV appearances for the CD.)

Get with the times people...Nobody watches videos on MTV or VH1 unless they are on the classic channels. Even then, they are just people sipping on their coffee before a long day of work.

The internet (youtube, news sites, itunes) is where music videos are exposed. Radio, MTV, VH1 no longer matter when it comes to Stevie's music. Her album has to spread like wild fire on the internet and on the tour circuit. That is the only way for her new music to spread. Those old outlets don't provide diddly-squat for classic rock artists. Even the amount of NEW music played on the radio is limited.

On a somewhat related note...I was in Target yesterday and I happened to stumble upon the CD section. Then it occured to me. What is this compact disc section even for? I think the last time I bought a CD it was Gift of Screws and that was because I am a die hard Mac fan. I don't even bother to buy CD's of other artists that I religiously follow.

I think it is dumb to spend time worrying about "album" sales because the whole music industry has changed. I think the sales figures for Stevie's album are going to be low and that fans here are going to go apesh*t..When I really do not think that "album sales" represent anything at all anymore.

In college, I get exposed to a large and diverse amount of music almost every weekend. When one of my friends asks me if I have heard this song by so and so, they immediately go to youtube or play the song from their Ipod that they have downloaded illegally.

Album sales mean squat in 2011 folks. Music is exposed through the internet these days. Just because the billboard numbers might be low does NOT mean that people aren't listening or enjoying her album.

Excellent post :) The music world has changed so much in regards to what is perceived to be a benchmark on good, bad, or excellent CD sales/exposure. Things go viral now and by "liking" a web site or article or sharing a link. It still would be cool though if Stevie did pull off some acceptable sales figures though on the CD. Would be like an extra present in the XMAS stocking though.

She did hate the house after she bought it. But it is no longer on the market and most of Dave's movie and most of the recording of the new record took place in this house. Now she loves the "vibe" of the house. The Cheaper than Free video was shot there as well.

Hahaha, he really does. I don't know what I did to get on his good side, but I made him and Stevie a return shout out and he responded on their behalf, he read a stanza of a poem I wrote aloud on Twitter, and every once in a while he responds to my own personal tweets, usually with nice things to say when I'm having a bad day. He DMed me once, haha.
