Cliche lyrics? I love this song so far. The lyrics are deep and excellent. Her voice is excellent and they sound great together. This song seems to make sense, maybe that is cliche.

Well, OK, a nice enough little clip from a country-tinged duet. This, plus Secret Love and the Everybody Loves You (demo?) snippet still leave me thinking "yes, that sounds pleasant, and?" I sure hope the album has more engaging stuff in it, stuff that makes me go "wow", rather than "uh huh."

I was pretty freaked out by only hearing the clips of Everybody Loves You, Cheaper Than Free, and Secret Love. Not to mention the fact she's written a song about the Twilight series . But then I heard the entirety of Secret Love, and my fears have been quelled. Plus, we know Mike Campbell is involved in this project, so that means we'll have at least a token few rocking songs. I think this record will be good... Dave clearly "gets" Stevie, he's been tweeting that he listens to her back catalogue, and her singing voice on the finished version of Secret Love is better than she's sounded in decades. I think Dave has probably brought out a side of Stevie we haven't seen since the 1980s. Yes, I've been a skeptic since the beginning of this project, but now I have a different feeling about the whole thing. In her interviews, she just has the best, most balanced views of her album. And her singing voice just says it all, too. She GIVES A DAMN once again! :D I just think it's all going to be okay. Who knew? ME with warm and fuzzy feelings! :p

I am not a fan of Mike Campbell's rockin' work with her in the past (can someone name some lovable work they've done?), but I am hoping Dave Stewart makes some nice castles in the air around Stevie's voice and music. In the end, it will all be about song choice and atmospheric arrangements, for me.

The song structure and the lyrics remind me of a nice ole Dolly Parton-ish ditty. I think it could be really good. The lyrical sentiment, judging just the clip seems to parallel "I Sing For The Things".

Thanks for this. I couldn't get this to work when it was originally posted on Dave's site so I'm glad to have finally heard it.

God, those lyrics are AWFUL though. Her voice sounds great and it's lovely to hear her do a simple ballad and close harmony again but those lyrics really, really suck. I was predicting them by the end of the snippet ("feel" rhyming with real"). I hope there's a re-write before it goes on either album. Has it been decided/announced just whose album it's going on?

I don't understand why people are saying "Bad Lyrics." These are great lyrics. They make sense and are heartfealt. Bad lyrics is chimpanzee lyrics in Jane or going out first or second person constantly, or pieced together snippets from various songs.

It seems like the snippet is the finished song on Dave's album.Sonically it does not seem to fit well with the production of "Secret Love" so another version for "In Your Dreams " would make sense.

That Made Me Stronger Part II. Eh... well, maybe not that bad.

Yes, the lyrics are corny, but for some reason I get the feeling that this song was written with tongue firmly planted in cheek. I'm guessing it was supposed to be in the vein of those corny old AM radio country songs, which helps to explain the little slide guitar interlude. I just hope Stevie's version doesn't become too serious.

God I love his story about Don't Come Around Here No More and how he keeps insinuating that they had sex.

"And I was singing it to Jimmy and he was like, 'thats a hit if I ever heard one!' and then he said to Stevie 'Now come on, let's get the verse together!" and I didn't realize that him and her were having a little bit of friction and she was like, reciting Shakespeare and all sorts of crazy stuff instead of singing the verse and Jimmy was getting angrier and angrier and angrier and they have a little bit of argument around the piano and he is going, 'Don't argue infront of my friend David, you don't know him!' and she's going, 'What do you mean I don't know him?' blah blah blah hahaha I won't tell the rest of it. ;)"

I just imagine that last sentence going, "What do you mean I don't know him?! I ****ed him didn't I?!?!?!"

Also... this thing they did together for HBO?!?!?!?! "Me and Stevie met again... 2 or 3 years ago for this little thing we were doing for HBO. And we got on great and I was playing Landslide with her on acoustic and we did a few things... Rhiannon (although it sounds as if he says Rhianna) nobodies ever seen this, but it was filmed!"

Also, "well let's play your version" sounds like there are two different versions of the song. I love her vocal on it, but the lyrics are very cheesy. The one that REALLY kills me is "Whats faster than a FAST car?" Sister Honey is faster than a fast car. Shes like a jet plane, remember?! I think I could appreciate it if it was only on Dave's album.

Ok, now that you mention it - it does sound like the old cheesy country songs that I love and grew up listening to. But, I never deemed Dave & Stevie to be another Porter & Dolly or Conway & Loretta and God knows they sure aren't George & Tammy. The thing about those novelty songs - they were usually upbeat and you got that it was a joke. This is not. And, it's not funny either. Eh. Reminds me of Lindsey's story of when they were trying to get back on track after BN tanked and the label guys wanted them to do stuff like Jim Stafford's "Spiders and Snakes" (Loretta & Conway) and join the steak house circuit...

Oh well, I'm sure I'll be singing along to this when it comes out regardless.

I think CTF is funny because these corny lyrics are delivered with such sincerity and conviction. That being said, I just don't know how this is going to translate into Stevie's pop/rock idiom. It only works on Dave's album because the whole record is a twangy hoedown of sorts. Well, after hearing what Dave and Glen did with "Secret Love," I can only presume that they did something surprisingly clever with it for Stevie's album.

I think Mike Campbell is the worst thing to ever happen to Stevie Nicks. Greta- Tuneless, meandering, middling... what other words can I use to describe this song?

Imperial Hotel- Let's face it- this is a mediocre tune saved by the tremendous, wailing, shredding vocal. This would have been unlistenable if anyone else had sung it.

The Dance- Is there a barf icon I can use?

Freedom- Perhaps my least favorite BTM song. It's down there with "Stand on the Rock" for me.

The Mixdown- This definitely should remain in the scrap heap.

Fire Burning- One of the lowest points on an album that is a lowpoint itself.

Desert Angel- Some call this a masterpiece. I call it a hot mess. I wish I could "call it missing."

You Like Me- Never heard this.

Blue Denim- Okay, ONE Mike Campbell song I somewhat like. But that's not an impressive batting average.

My Heart- This song goes nowhere musically. The chorus is utter garbage.

Whole Lotta Trouble- The other lowpoint of TOSOTM. "Fire Burning" and "WLT" exemplify everything I find offensive about the Klono-Stevie era.

Ghosts- Okay, TWO MC songs I like. And this one I do really like.

 Well then , tell us how u really feel.
However I do love "Blue Denim", "Greta", "Ghosts", "Kick It "in that order. And agree on "Imperial Hotel" that Stevie's vocal is kick ass & phenom.

OMG I was just thinking is it a coincidence that Stevie & Mike Campbell had 3 collaborations each on what are generally regarded as Stevie weakest efforts: SA & OSOTM. ;)
This is not sitting well with me...suddenly realizing he most likely co-wrote 2 IYD tracks. Eh! I probably shouldn't worry, because right now whats really got me worried - back on topic - Am I the only one questioning Dave & Stevie co-writing chemistry based on Cheaper Than Free?

This new extended clip with the lyrics "More exciting than high fashion......High passion!" left me in shock. If this is any indication of the lyrical content to come, Stevie may not be getting many critical accolades for IYD at all. This is as cheesy as Stevie Baby's lyrics, but not in a cute way.

FM77, IS the Cheaper then Free on Stevie's album much different then the bit of Dave's we've heard? That seems easy enough to remember I'd imagine.

Well, the snippet isn't as full instrumentally but essentially it is the same. I mean you don't change melodies no matter who is singing it. Hers has a very cool guitar hook in it that makes the song very memorable. Its a slide guitar hook--electric but very Ry Cooder/Bonnie Raitt-ish. Her version starts acoustic in the verse and builds to a full sound in the chorus. I really like it even though lyrically it's very different than what she typically writes.

The video that I saw for the song was shot in her house (not the condo) and it is very cool---I saw it several times and it made me like the song more every time I heard/saw it. It was shot as a performance and as a behind-the-scenes-making-of-the record. Stevie looks fabulous and is having so much fun that you get sucked into it. There is a snippet in the video of her doing a little dance with a little black hat on---it was my favorite part.

A friend sent me this link earlier today. At the end of the interview, they play Dave's studio version "The Nashville Version" of "Cheaper Than Free"

Check it out. It's very nice, especially on a decent system.

I didn't see the interview posted anywhere. He discusses what happened with "Don't Come Around Here No More...."

It is on page 2 and requoted several places thru-out:

You can hear one more verse of Dave's version at the 51:15 minute mark (toward the end) of Dave's episode of Music Business Radio here on our Progressive Rock station, Lightning 100 in Nashville.

I have to say...I don't like these lyrics at all. :(
Even though it's still not the complete song, I don't see how anything can save it. The lyrics are just too...trite and cliche! Boo.

That longer version is very. very similar to what I heard on the Stevie disk. I mean that slide guitar hook is the same...I hear a pedal steel guitar on Dave's that I did not hear on Stevie's but that could be a mix issue.
