Not sure if this has been posted or not, but I came across this interesting piece of information the other day on wikipedia:
A new Remastered & Expanded version of Mirage is due for release in mid-2011 buy Rhino/Warner Music Group. CD 1 will be the original album remastered and CD 2 will feature bonus material taken from the Mirage era, such as B-sides and outtakes. A track listing for this release has not yet been announced.

Has anyone else heard about this? Has there been any official announcement?

Oh, they tease! It would be nice to have Mirage and Tango remastered with all those lovely extras (not that I don't have most of them anyway thanks to the download threads :p).

It would be interesting to see what "extras" they would put on the second disk. Shame it's probably not true though, I'd buy a Mirage re-master in a heartbeat.

I'd love these remasters to actually happen but I think this might be one of the examples of how wikipedia can be notoriously unreliable!

Even though I've never been fond of Mirage at all (as many of you know), that didn't sound true to me the least bit.
However, I'd love to see the Mirage show get a proper DVD release though

Goodbye Angel

Smile At You and If You Were My Love remastered, along with those tracks, maybe?
It's weird, I know of a few Stevie and Lindsey demos from the Mirage era, but not from Christine... anyone?

Well, at one point, the "Remaster project" was supposed to be the entire WB/Reprise CATALOGUE. (That's from Then Play On through Time, yes, Time) They started with FM '75, Rumours and Tusk as the first three, then supposed to release the rest over the next couple of years...well, somebody obviously put a kabosh on that project. Maybe it's back on the burner again.

Well, with Vaudeville Years & Showbiz Blues sets, Then Play On has kind of been mined...as well as the Kiln House era with the Madison Blues set. But, the Welch era would definitely be interesting to see what's been left in the can.
I was pretty disappointed with the first three reissues, other than one or two dusty gems (mainly speaking of Rumours & Tusk), we just got alternate versions of the songs that were on the albums. (and, even still, didn't get the cool "Songbird"-esque piano version of "Never Make Me Cry" that's been circulating on bootlegs for years on the Tusk reissue)
Let's hope that if there IS a few other albums reissued, they'll do a better job at coming up with some nearly finished outtakes that never saw light of day. (don't need some half-assed distorted unfinished demo of "Smile At You" or some studio jam of Fats Domino's "Blue Monday"...something more substantial, like "Goodbye Angel" & "Teen Beat" that showed up on The Chain box set.)

Why don't you have a look in the Demos thread? I know it's mostly Stevie material, but I found some wonderful Mac gems in the thread archives. There were some really nice Mirage outtakes. Blue Monday would be my favourite. So much 'tude from Lindsey :D

The B-side of the "Gypsy" single is the non-LP track, a cover of the Sons Of The Pioneers' "Cool Water".

Pretty crazy that "Goodbye Angel" wasn't tacked on as a b-side to one of those "Mirage" singles. Lindsey must have wanted to keep it for himself?

That was it! I always seem to turn non-album B-sides for bands into a huge mess and think they're these lost, mysterious things and that more exist than actually do (sorry, I grew up in the age of buy CDs or download)
Anyways, a random theory here, but I noticed that those TITN B-sides all seem to have originated from Lindsey. Were they tracks that would've been on the album if it was a Bucky solo album and when it became a Mac album, they got removed and left to be B-sides?

Like Luke said, Ricky is a Christine song, and Book of Miracles is Lindsey's instrumental arrangement of Juliet which was written by Stevie. There's a really good Tango outtake of Juliet, stylistically pretty much like Think About Me mixed with Angel or something. That would make a great bonus track if they remaster it!

So wait, Juliet was a colaboration between Lindsey and Stevie? Based on what I heard so far, Juliet was almost a Mac song, but we got the instruemental version Book of Miracles instead and the full Juliet ended up on Other Side of the Mirror(sorry, haven't really paid attention the album after Rooms on Fire and Long Way to Go)?

I do remember that was the original announcement. The entire collection.
But.. that was 2004, right? It has been almost 7 years. Kabosh or not, nowadays the CDs market has changed a lot. Stores are closing, used CDs are a growing option, there are MP3 downloads, Itunes, etc. I don't think this would be a good idea in commercial terms.
For us the fans, we would love it. Specially because the Mirage CD sound sucks. We need a remastered. And of course there are the bonus tracks, new pictures, etc. But I don't think it would be a finnancial success. And I guess that was the main reason they didn't follow after the 3 releases.
Unless they sell it thru Itunes or any new alternative. But even so I'm not sure it will make it.
I guess it just a rumour.

Yeah, Christine using her "sexy" voice:laugh:.
Even if Christine had been the only writer though, I hear Lindsey in it, because the silliness reflects his personality when he's being goofy.
Similarly, I hear Christine in Say You Will and I hear Stevie in Miranda, at least I feel their influence.

Tangerine Dream.... I was a foreign exchange student to Germany in 1970-71. I loved these guys....they were a part of what was known as "Krautrock".
As for Mirage coming out again with extra material...I'd buy it. I am a sucker for anything that is commercially produced. I love the demos but I don't know how to clean them up like mylittledemon does....

I don't understand the concern about the re-releases selling well. These are older albums -- they are not going to bust up the charts. It's a matter of expectations and one of principle.
I have hundreds of CDs of old albums that have been re-released, revamped and with bonus tracks. Most of them are vastly obscure in comparison to prominent albums such as Mirage and Tango in the Night.
These CDs are released, not with intent to sell big, but to appeal to a niche fan base. You can safely say that a band on the level of Fleetwood Mac is anything but a niche fan base. So why are they deemed exempt??
I wonder if any the boutique labels that specialize in this market have ever approached Warner Brothers (or whoever owns the rights) to lease out the rights to Fleetwood Mac music to release their albums? That's best case senario. Otherwise, Warner Brothers seems completely ambivilant.
Perhaps we should start a ground-swell, and bombard Warner with our collective power, and demand them to do the right thing, because there are many fans that want these things, and they disrespecting the historical significance of one of their cash-cows!

I agree, but the answer is in Warner Bros. They maybe not reached the expected numbers. Maybe the revenue didn't covered the cost of edition, production, logistics, distribution, etc. At the end it's a matter of business, specially for the record company. If they didn't get enough revenue, why to continue on this unsuccessful idea? Record companies (as ALL business) think in terms of $, not fans.

Hmmm...WB (or subsidiaries of WB) re-issued remastered versions of entire catalogues by:
CSN(&Y)
Genesis
Van Halen
Led Zeppelin
Eric Clapton
Cream
Buffalo Springfield
Elvis Costello (ok, so exactly how MANY times has his entire catalogue been reissued? First Sony, then Rykodisc, then Rhino (a WB Co), now who?)
You can't tell me that Fleetwood Mac doesn't belong in that group...I would think that Fleetwood Mac reissues would outsell just about every one of those groups except LZ.
The only hold up, that I can think of off the top of my head regarding the entire catalogue is because everything prior to Heroes Are Hard To Find are still under "ownership" of Clifford Davis. But, still, that doesn't mean they can't move forward with all the post-Tusk albums, too.
Instead of the never ending new ways to repackage Greatest Hits & Best Of... & VERY Best Of... compilations, try redoing the catalogue and see if the total catalogue sales numbers don't exceed any one of those "hits" packages.

Maybe I'm wrong, but my impression is that the artist pay for everything. The artist don't see a dime till all the cost of edition, production, logistics, distribution, etc are met. So it does not cost them a thing. That is why they can afford their own island!! If they would gotten on the digital download bandwagon say 10 years ago the record company guys would have been even richer instead of trying to sell their company. Anyway, I would rather have something like this in the CD format so that I can get the artwork and everything with it.

 Exactly my thoughts.
It's not just that those big artists have been remastered and rereleased. I've got remasters from bands that sold a fraction of the numbers the Mac did by obscure hard rock/metal bands from the 80s (Pentagram and Angel Witch) so if they can come out then Mirage and TITN have no excuse not to be release.

I wish it was true that we'd get re-issues's to 'Live' Mirage' 'Tango' (though not my favorite) and 'Mask' too I think its long over due for them even if they did them in small quanities I know I'd love it and buy it. Same with a dvd of all there video's would be really nice. (Same with Stevie's solo lp's--at least the first 4 of them anyway) though it doesn't appear to be happening. There really missing the boat on this. Lindsey needs his own box set too of his solo material with a dvd included for his solo videos too. Its really a shame but I guess its there choice.

I wish they would get on with it and put out a Mirage Remaster. It's an album I love but it hurts my ears listening to the crappy sound quality on the CD. Everything is muffled and flat. I think it would really do well and get reviewed as a bit of a hidden gem in the FM catalogue since that particular 80s sound is very in vogue at the moment. I can only imagine how amazing a properly mastered version would sound since the production is actually pretty fantastic behind the awful CD mix...

The again, they might be hoping for another FM album or tour or both and they'll capitalize on it like they did in 2004. People tend to go and buy back catalogue music when a band has released something new.
