Stevie - High Resolution image thread 2011

I've been organizing my Stevie image folders (digital and hard copy), scanning and fixing what needs fixin', etc. I thought I'd start a new High Resolution image thread dedicated to images that are either 300 dpi or dimensions that exceed 1200 pixels (height and/or width).

This one is from Tim White's "Rock Stars" coffee-table hardcover:

Also from "Rock Stars," but I had to composite the image since it was a two-page spread in the book. I found a second copy of the book for 2 bucks years ago so I used a razor to remove the pages for scanning.

Shown here is the small version, since the large format is too large to reproduce in this forum.

Random as hell but the section encompassing her cheek and neck are an exquisite example of sfumato. She almost looks painted onto the background.

It still looks like their is something in her nose! Which we all know their was often. If you look close you can even see that it's kind of red down under the nostrils. I am often surprised at how few pictures their are of Stevie looking bad or drugged out. I mean there are a few but she's no Amy Winehouse or Lindsey Lohan. Times were different back then I suppose...nobody had a camera phone in their pocket and were ready to snap a pic at anytime and put it on their facebook asap.
OMG! I'm over at Lindsey's house and Stevie is like sooo wasted and she's twirling on the coffee table! Yay! This is so fun! I love my friends! < insert picture of Stevie slipping off coffee table while laughing her ass off >

This was taken by my friend Sandra on October 31, 1987 at the Boston Garden (now the TD Banknorth Garden). It was our first FM front row experience. Taking pictures wasn't easy.

The following images are from a press conference at the Bond Court Hotel. The press conference was the result of a last-minute cancellation of the band's WMMS World Series of Rock concert at Cleveland Stadium the following day, August 4, 1978. Lindsey hadn’t sufficiently recovered from a spinal tap. He’d been hospitalized following a collapse on July 30, but was able to play a concert later that night in Philadelphia. At the press conference it was announced that the show was being rescheduled for August 26. Info & photos come from "The Buzzard," John Gorman's memoir - and blog - about Cleveland's rock radio scene during the mid''70s. Photos are by Bob Farrell.

The following are scans of the RCA Selectavision CED discs (a very short-lived format) from the early '80s. FM & Stevie had 3 titles available. Bob Welch's Roxy show with Stevie singing Gold Dust Woman was also released but she is billed as Madame X because because of contractual issues.

It's kind of hard to tell because it's b&w...

but I think it's because she has foundation caked on (that's why her skin looks so weird), and yet she is wearing little to no eye makeup or lip color... so her features aren't distinguished and so her face looks weird. The grayscale doesn't help with this either.

Yup. These outtake stills are from the movie theatre scene from the If Anyone Falls video. The performance shots with the band are also from that video. The director decided to use the Stevie only performance shots as well as the girls. It would have been cool to have a full band shot, though maybe the video wouldn't have the same intimacy that it has.

^^ Isn't this from the same Jose Eber Fan Contest video? I never thought she looked bad here and many a girl wanted their hair and cut like that at the time, when I was in Jr. High and HS. She was so pretty here and I think these pics didn't do her justice how good she looked that day. I find it funny how some of the younger ones knock how outrageous the 80's were when in 15-20 years they'll look back on how boring looking most of society looks now with the flat hair and no muss no fuss looks and uninspired styles of these past few years. To me, at least the 80's had fashion and flair. I think the problem today is most everything has already been done. :shrug:

As with all her looks and eras, you have to love them all because they made her who she is today and we all look back on, and have, our favorite ones. I think a lot of us miss the ever changing Stevie and wish she would break open the wardrobe chests and makeup and different hair again instead of the same ol' same ol' all the time.

This photo was taken by Joep Deumes, who claims he took the photo on October 10, 2009 in Zuidwijk, Rotterdam, ZH, NL, which is an obvious mistake since A) This is clearly from Tango (for most of that tour, she looked like a pirate queen crowned with a pile of cotton-candy hair engaged in a sack race at the local fair where she working as as character spokesperson for an aging confectionery company that makes 500 flavors of salt water taffy. I loved every minute of her during that tour, my first time seeing the band and it remains the only FM tour that I had front row seats.
And B) I corresponded with Joep, who insisted his info was correct. I told to to re examine the photo he posted on his personal website where the photo bears his stamp of "1988. " (I got the image from flickr.)
It is the only shot he has of Stevie or FM.

David, I will do my best to find photos from Oct. & Nov. of The Wild Heart tour. I know I have several high resolution (300 dpi) and others that are probably 72-150 dpi with dimensions larger than 1800 x 1800 pixels.

It may just be me but I've always thought this was Stevie at her most beautiful. This was the Stevie that I fell in love with (although by the time I discovered her she had just released Street Angel and didn't look like this anymore).

Back in the day, the respectable music press dismissed her as a lightweight fad. She still making music? Reminds me, whatever happened to that Madonna? A 1985 Time magazine cover story said her 15 minutes would be up by the time I finished reading that very issue.

It's a fab jacket no doubt. I'm just hoping this new tour and album bring out some freshness to her and her stale wardrobe of ruffled blackness. I love her in black but she has so many other nice pieces and colors she could wear for a change. Maybe she will. I own a lot of black too as far as my Stevie-clothes but when I do take new pics I'm going to wear things I haven't before in photos and change things up. It's getting to where us impersonators have to change up the (look) for her since she won't herself. :rolleyes:

^^ If you were around back then, everyone wanted Stevie hair and she rocked it best. :nod: I actually miss her rockin wild hair days and she was so much more (I wanna say "stylish" all around, about herself) and always sporting new looks and doing things to her hair and wearing the coolest of clothes. Now we get straight and boring for the past 15 years and here lately, even her wardrobe. I only wish she'd be as creative today with herself. That said, I am loving these recent video stills and her with the red streaks again in her hair, she always looked so good with those against her blonde. And it looks like she has on one of her black/silvery embellished tops over the red dress up there? And so pretty.

So, this is funny..

Someone is selling a hand-tinted version of a Stevie photo that I digitally altered and posted here a week ago. The original is actually a scan of one of the many HSW prints I order from him in the mid-'80s. Scanning is the only way to preserve the images printed on cereal box-quality paper. I don't care if people take anything I do, but selling it?

Someone else is selling 11 x 17 poster prints of just my version on eBay. I forwarded the link to HW, since the underlying work belongs to him.

It's a weird feeling time on the boards right now for some reason and not many are talkative so I wouldn't take it personally. Also I think it's wrong that people snag others' pics and try to sell them elsewhere. I have used pics in my posts before but always tried to give credit if so but I would never try selling them or even know how to really as I have never even used Ebay other than to buy a skirt once or a couple nice shawls a few years ago.

So sorry to hear this issue with your hard work. I enjoy looking at these pics that people find and post! Did not realize the hard work that goes into altering pics that is done and then to have them copied and used elsewhere, even sold, really stinks. It only takes a few people to ruin a good thing, then everyone gets punished for the bad deeds of a few. Seems this happens, unfortunately too much on the internet. :sorry:

I love what you post in this thread and I am sorry if I have never commented sooner. First off, you're a super cool Ledgie that is well informed on many topics. On this thread in particular, I always look for the latest updates and really enjoy just viewing the hi-res images. Once in a great while, I'll save an image here and there for personal use (not really sure why I do this) and appreciate all the offerings.

I'm a super busy person and sometimes some threads just get lost on me...or I forget to re-look at postings from people that may have replied to a comment I made in a thread. But this thread, I seek out!

Sorry to hear it. Is it Barbara? She is known for pulling this crap and has been at it for decades. When you put your work out there it is a risk that people will steal it. And they WILL steal it. But so many more are enjoying it even if they aren't letting you know. I once posted a concert review that someone plagiarized as their own and posted to a message board. It was so bizarre that when confronted she completely denied what was in black and white. This was someone who's identity I knew though. There will always be people out there doing this stuff but are they worth not sharing your beautiful work?

The "underlying work" is still protected by copyright law which actually can stake a claim to my revisions. I don't even feel exploited, but I feel bad if I've made it easy to sell fans inferior product. My FM remix compilation for which I designed front and back tray showed up on eBay for $60. The seller claimed it was a DJ only promotional copy. It took two weeks for eBay to remove it and that was after 6 were sold. This cuts into the business of legit sellers.

Everyone is more than welcome to download anything I post, draw a moustache on it, put it on their personal site, etc. It belongs to everyone, I just didn't think anyone was looking at these pages because it wasn't generating discussion, which I don't take personally. It would be really creepy to start a thread without prompting and then demand attention. I was just going to start a new thread, a comic book version of my fake 70s TV movie of the week: "Big Trouble in Shangri-La" starring Stevie as small town sheriff and Christine as her distant cousin, an inspector visiting from Scotland Yard.

The sudden groundswell of activity has made me reconsider my decision to drop this thread. It's nice that so many have posted their appreciation of the thread, but as long as I know it's getting hits, I'll keep going. No one needs to feel obligated to post thank you's. Check in every now and then and tell me what you like and don't like. Make requests.

I've always loved this photoshoot of Stevie, but I her best friend Mary appears in most of the photos, positioned in such a way that simple cropping wasn't enough to remove her from the images.

This is the original. The digitally altered version is a rough draft in low res. I also altered the photo of the battling Stevies, turning Mary into Stevie #2.

I've always loved this photoshoot of Stevie, but I her best friend Mary appears in most of the photos, positioned in such a way that simple cropping wasn't enough to remove her from the images.

This is the original. The digitally altered version is a rough draft in low res. I also altered the photo of the battling Stevies, turning Mary into Stevie #2.
