View Full Version : If the album gets leaked...

...will you listen to it?
In one of the threads, a Ledgie mentioned that, as Stevie's new album gets passed around to more people in the industry, it will just take one assistant to swipe the tracks and post them online. If they did become available before the release date, would you listen to them or wait for the official launch?
Edited to add: The point here isn't downloading music without paying for it :p or the virtues of MP3s versus CDs. It's more a question of waiting for the real thing or not!

I'd like to say no... because I've ruined several albums for myself this way. But alas, I do not have good self control :o. It's been ten loooooooong years dammit!!
I'm seriously going to try to be good if this happens though, and not listen. I just don't have much faith in myself! :p

I don't have very much faith in my willpower either. If a link came up that said "Stevie Nicks (insert new album name here)" with a button that said LISTEN NOW, you better believe I'd click on that button...I'd click it HARD!
...and of course I will also go out and buy three copies when it hits the shelves...:)

Considering that every twittering douchebag in Hollywood seems to have heard this album, it is not a matter of "if" but "when" this album leaks. It's time to set a firm release date and give it a title. If it leaks prematurely and the success of the album is undermined, we have only Stevie's inept handlers to blame.

Which is why i'm hoping Stevie uses her appearance on Ellen to her advantage by doing just that. I'm sure we'll get at least a title, if not an exact release date.

Would I listen to leaked tracks?
If I thought it would actually work, I'd hire a cabal of mediums and psychics to contact/channel my future self to see what I thought of the CD.

Yes, but as others said, I'd also buy a ton of copies.

I will likely listen to a track or two...but considering it's been TEN YEARS since we got anything new, I'm really looking forward to buying the CD and listening to it all in its entirety for the first time.

hello darling!
i voted yes ... because well i wouldnt be able to help myself
HOWEVER, i do not think Stevie should be tossing it around out there like a frisbee
what happened to maintaining her aura of mystery
of course **** is gonna get leaked if everyone and their mother has already had a "preview"

I wouldn't listen, but not for any ethical reasons. I just . . . the time it would take to download it and then maybe burn it onto a CD so I could listen in my car . . . just too much effort. As long as I know it's coming out soon, within a few weeks, I'll wait for the official.
And of course, I am going to buy the official no matter what and a vinyl if it's available and DVDs and anything else.

I would listen, but probably only if all the tracks were available and I knew the correct tracklisting. I'm a sucker for listening to albums from beginning to end, especially in a case like this.
And I'll buy it in several formats when it's officially released, of course :)

I also enjoy listening to albums beginning to end. I feel it will be required to do so for this next record to get the entire feel and atmosphere. I remember when I first listened to Bella Donna and The Wild Heart from front to back. It really let me experience the records as a whole instead of skipping around to my favorite tracks.

I hope the whole album doesn't leak. I want it to be special and I want to go out and buy the album and stick it in the CD player and hopefully be blown away for the next hour with new Stevie Nicks. That being said, I do hope something leaks. If a song or two leaked, that'd be enough to tide me over until the release. Or even if just the entire tracklist leaked soon, that'd be amazing IMO! I'd be able to live with knowing what songs were on there and waiting to hear them. But I will not be able to keep myself from hearing new Stevie, so whatever leaks, I will for sure be listening to the second I find it!!

Of course I will do so.
The time that you would anxiously browse thru the rows of CD's in your fav. recordstore while hoping to find the/a new albumor counting the days for a releasedate ara way behind us.
Everything is available online (legal or not). So as soon as something appears, I'll grab it. Don't we do the same thing with demos, outtakes en bootleg recordings of shows???
If I wait for the official release or will listen to a download. Sometimes I just have to hear it...I'm a fan you know!
Of course I'll buy the album as soon as it will be released but still...
In fact in 1994 I was able to obtain Street Angel almost 4 weeks before the release due to a shipping error in the CD-manufacturersplant and I distributed it to all of my pre-internet Steviefriends all over the world....what a fun was that :-)

I would rather wait. Considering how much Stevie is against her music ending up on the Internet before release, why is she letting Anyone 'preview' it?

Hand on heart, I'd probably listen to / download the album if it leaked, but I'd still buy the CD when it was released, too.

I voted No, But I think I change my mind. If one or two songs are leaked & I can download them somewhere, I definitely will. But I wouldn't listen to the whole album. I want that experience of sitting down and listening to it as a whole. Even if I hear one or two in advance, it won't be the end of the world.
I'm going to buy a copy of the actual album on iTunes, a couple copies of the CD for my car, bedroom, Dad's house, basement, ...

I get where she's coming from, but I just wish she would promote it a little by performing the songs & releasing a couple singles. It wouldn't be a bad thing, & fans would still have the other 10 or 11 songs to enjoy at the official release.

I may listen to a "snippet", but not multiple songs.
I have my routine planned for the album release day, and I don't want to mess it up! My cousin and I are taking the day off, and having a listening party complete with martinis!
I am sure I will buy mulitple copies as well!

That cracks me up! It's so true though. Does Stevie know all her "buddies" are teasing us... naughty naughty. Wonder if all the twittering douchebags had to pay to listen...I didn't think so.
I will buy the album when it comes out no matter what. I will listen to the album when it leaks...no matter what.
C'mon Stevie - It's been 10 years. Quit being a tease and give it up already.

I think I'd listen to the singles, but not the whole thing.
It would be a tricky situation for us Ledgies, though, with some of us listening to the leaked tracks and others waiting for the official launch and not wanting it to be spoiled.

Yeah, well what one person says is trash another person says is wonderful, so other people talking about the album before it is released wouldn't spoil it for me.

I Agree with you. Music is a very personal experience. Why we gravitate towards certain songs vs others is as complex as our DNA. No one is right and no one is wrong.

I don't think I will listen to it when it's leaked, but the reason is that I want to put a CD in my nice hi-fi, crank it up through my nice speakers, and hear it at its best, not through a manky compressed mp3 file.

If things are leaked they will be discussed here a lot. Those who have chosen not to listen to the leaked tracks will have to tiptoe to avoid the posts about those songs.

I saw Sahara you were talking about a listening party in Dublin. thats where I am from too!!!!!So might pop along to that... funny enough i have yet to find anyone who also loves FM and SN as much as me here at home. so it is great to see that there are people out there in Ireland that are fans...keeping it alive for Stevie.

but my heart says yes. I will = I've never had any willpower when it comes to new music. I didn't realize how starved I've been for new Stevie Nicks... but I'm exhausting this new song I tell you.. exhausting it. I love its contradiction = an upbeat melody with such dark lyrics.. classic Nicks.. and her voice.
"i am not asking forever from you.. i'm just asking to be held for a while.."
and the ending.. reminds me of the last episode of the Sopranos.. yes, my secret love.. secretly... dies.

If the album is leaked (which pretty much EVERY album gets leaked prior to it's release) I will listen to it. But as others have said I will also buy the CD. In fact I already have, I've pre0rdered the album. If the preorder though goes like the previous ones I've preordered of Stevie, I won't get that CD for three weeks AFTER it's released in stores.
Back when "Trouble In Shangri-La" was released I got my hands on the advance promo of the album a month before it was released and still I was at the store first thing to get the commercially released version. For some reason I always end up with several copies of all of Stevie's albums. I'm not one of those who buys it just to jack up albums sales, but I always end up with the domestic version, the import version, the promo version, etc. Also don't be surprised if this time around there is the "Best Buy Exclusive", the Target exclusive, and iTunes exclusive versions.
I got an advance copy of TIS and still bought a copy of the cd the morning it came out. I'm on the same camp as Keith. I have NO will power when it come to any MAC releases. I would also agree....Secret Love is indeed "Classic Nicks"
