Any of you Ledgies own a 3-D TV?
I've been waiting it out for awhile
now, and I think I might have to
make a move on one this year. So
if you have one, please post what
you think of your particular set.
And please comment on the glasses.
Right now I'm leaning towards a
Panasonic plasma.

It gives me a headache. Also, for much of the programming, the 3-D is rather crude. Instead of being life-like, it's like watching a diorama with layers of cardboard cutouts moving around in it. But if you don't mind the crudeness and you don't get headaches from wearing those silly glasses, then go for it; I think there's only about a 10-15% premium in price vs. a 2-D set.
Why would you get a plasma TV? Do you know how much electricity those things suck up? The edge-lit LED sets are beautiful and very efficient.

Hey there... I used to install TVs for several years with Geek Squad... Plasma still has a better picture... Can't go wrong with that. It's still ultimately a better picture (without me nerding out and going into the stats)... Pioneer made some of the best plasmas on the market, but I think they've stopped. Can't go wrong with Panasonic though.

Thanks for your responses.
I would love to have bought one of those Pioneer Kuros,
but they were out of my price range. I did own a Pioneer
projection TV (about 3 grand), when it got hit by lightning
I switched back to a Sony CRT (about nine years ago).
After doing much research I think plasma is the way to go.
The viewing angle on the LCD's are awful, at least compared
to plasma. I do have an HD LCD in my bedroom, it's a Sony.

3D gives me a headache too. I'll stick with regular tv watching. Aren't plasma's going the way of big-box projection televisions? I like my LCD. But if plasma is what Brandon has, I'll come over and watch it anytime, just let me hop in my raft.

Plasma has proper depth in the black levels ... and truer whites as well. It's your foundation really. They also tend to be more calibrated right out of the box (the Pioneer's especially... and no this can't be done with the setup menu). Most TVs have about 30% color error right out of the box. Whites tend to look yellow... they max out the settings on them so they look good in the store. It's like a moth to a flame right? But what you're getting is an inaccurate color representation on most of the TV's on the market. But all that aside... all that matters at the end of the day is what looks good to you, and is affordable. ;)

Just an aside (kinda), but- ESPN is really missing the boat by not sponsoring 3D watch parties for big events at sports bars. I don't care about 3D movies in the theater and I currently see no need for buying a 3D set, but if I could go to a, say, Buffalo Wild Wings nearby and pay $5 to watch a "big" game in 3D, I'd give it a shot... and who knows, I might love it. I've actually looked for one of these kinds of promotions here in Portland for the big Oregon/Auburn game, but nope.

They're coming out with cheaper glasses which might make
this idea take off.
