Hi guys,

6th May!! Hurrah! I can make this date! As some of you may know, I've been planning to attend NOTS this year for ages but then 2 things came up in May that I couldn't get out of - but not until later in the month!

Ok - so now the plans begin! First of all, I know they're not on sale yet but can anyone tell me - when they do, is it possible to buy tickets online? I'm in the UK so that is the only way.

Also - who's up for meeting there?!

Al.

Oh wow... and here we thought that 2010 was going to be the last year. Good to hear that's not the case! I doubt I'll ever be able to attend a NOTS, but I'm glad they're still going on.

I'm just glad people came dressed last year because the past few years the whole meaning of it had taken a detour and was looking quite trashy.

I'm excited. Sounds like I have to look for something to wear with a heart on it. Last year, I utterly failed to find a moon!

Indeed... NOTS = Night Of a Thousand Stevies: the annual Stevie Nicks extravaganza held in Manhattan. :wavey:

Have always wanted to attend, if I start planing now it may just happen. This may even happen around the release of the new album making it that more "special"!

And Shane, I can't see myself doing drag... ever . But I have plenty of black button down wispy Guess shirts, black boots, and crescent moon and crystal ball necklaces. That'd have to suffice .

Oh I think we should all go!! louie - I know what you mean. I have wanted to go for the past 3 years but 2011 is only possible because I'm working and will plan in advance. I totally get not having the money though so, as great as it would be to finally meet you (at NOTS of all places) it's cool if you can;t make it.

As for costume - me in drag would be like a cross between Frank N Furter and Harry Potter and so I've decided to dress "up" as.... John McVie!

The timing is perfect for Stevie to finally make an appearance at the event considering the publicity campaign for her new album should be in high gear at that point. It's a photo opportunity that almost every major news outlet would be interested in running.

...and in the spirit of the year's theme, she actually performs "Wild Heart" on stage. I could seriously die. Seriously. She, Sharon and Lori could come out onstage dressed up and posed like the trio of Stevies on the Wild Heart cover. It would be so perfect, and since it's not a full concert, she can really belt it out. Do this, Stevie. Puhlease!

Greetings from snowed-in New York City to all of the Enchanted Gypsies, our friends and club family, and all who have joined this list since last year's NIGHT OF 1000 STEVIES. Thank you for your excitement and warmth as we start another NOTS season, and Happy New Year to all. We are delighted to announce the date and theme for our 21st annual NIGHT OF 1000 STEVIES, back for the fourth year at THE HIGHLINE BALLROOM in New York City. NOTS 21: THE WILD HEART will be held on Friday, May 6, and tickets will go on sale on January 15.

This year's lovestruck, Victorian heart-flavored edition is inspired by one of Stevie's early albums - THE WILD HEART - and its signature song WILD HEART. The NOTS 21 stage will feature Legends of Stevie Realness from all eras of the show AND brand new talent as we begin our third decade of Total Stevie (Nicks) Realness. Right after New Year's we will begin assembling the bill and reviewing applications from new performers. If you are a veteran performer of NOTS, do let us know your intentions when your plans are CERTAIN, or before March 1. If you would like to apply for one of our six new performer's slots for 2011, please do one of the following: If you have already mailed us, no need to do so again, you will receive email on or around January 3 with instructions on how to apply. If you HAVEN'T written to us yet, please email us at [email protected] and we will send you these instructions on or around January 3. We will be reviewing submissions through March 1, and will be notifying all new performer applicants during the first week of March.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As the NOTS Producers/ Jackie Factory will be out of town for the upcoming New Year's weekend, please do not expect an answer to any communications till January 3 the earliest. Our next newsletter will have lots more details, including first confirmed performers, more about the theme and suggested dress, and box office information. We wanted to get the date out early so you can begin to make plans, and will be back in touch before the box office opens. As always we thank you for your tremendous love and support, and look forward to seeing so many of you on May 6.

NIGHT OF 1000 STEVIES is the best-known STEVIE NICKS fan event in the world, a riot of shawls, lace, baby's breath, twirling, tambourines and great performance. This event began at JACKIE 60 in 1991 with four performers, and has grown into a true spectacle, featuring countless interpretations over a marathon night. In 2010, the twentieth edition of NOTS won the coveted GLAMMY AWARD for BEST NIGHTLIFE EVENT - it also inspired the 2001 film GYPSY 83. As always, this Enchanted evening will climax in a twirl of shawls and tambourines with the Battle of a Thousand Stevies near morning.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) January 2, 2011 --
Joshua-Paul Angell, Host of "The Joshua-Paul Show" On WBTR WorldWide Radio; also Broadcast on various AM/FM affiliates across the Country and streaming World Wide-
Angell was recently was asked about an upcoming appearance that was noticed via his Facebook Fan Page and his Radio Show Blog.
The January 3, 2011 show can be heard here live or anytime after the fact at this address: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/joshuaangell/2011/01/04/call-in-347-857-1975-live-with-special-guest

Joshua-Paul Angell says "I am a huge Stevie Nicks fan and I am intrigued with NOTS (Night Of A Thousand Stevie's NYC). I am always amazed at the true bond that occurs between Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac fans. Charlene Marie Coran is going to be an exciting interview as she is full of energy and laughs. She is also a very gifted tribute artist and deserves the exposure."
The show will air on January 3 2011, the first true Prime Time show of 2011 and of The Joshua-Paul Show. It will also be archived as a Podcast so that it can be listened to at any time.
Angell says, "We are also broadcast via the iPHONE free APP called CINCH"
Later this month Angell and his Co-Host April Landis will be having on Arlene Lewis; who runs the popular group called "Sisters Of The Moon" which is a network of Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac fans that is continually growing.

The Joshua-Paul Show asked Charlene Marie Coran, the upcoming show guest to provide information as why she is so inspired. Charlene quickly responded saying:
"I first learned about Night of a 1000 Stevie's (NOTS) in 2005 when I watched a movie that came out called "Gypsy 83" staring Sara Rue, Kett Turton and Karen Black which was directed by Todd Stephens and released in 2004. As watching this movie for the first time I was not understanding what it was like to be the main character portrayed in the movie so I was very disappointed in the movie, however, I wanted to see if NOTS was real so I looked up the name on the internet and found the main website probably in April 2005.

I was very intrigued and wanted to see if I could audition as I've been getting so much attention from different karaoke bars from people saying I sounded just like Stevie, so wanted to pursue the avenue of possibly becoming a Stevie Nicks impersonator/Tribute Artist. I immediately received a friendly email back from Chi Chi Valenti - NOTS Founder and producer saying that the bill was closed for that year and to try again the beginning of the year 2006. Well needless to say - I was anxious for 2006 to get here so as soon as it did - I only had a 30 second audio recording of me that was recorded by Todd South who ran an open mic session at a coffee shop in Reno, NV. I used that clip and sent it to the NOTS producers right away. In early March 2006, I received an email from Chi Chi stating that I was accepted as one of their debut performers and they requested that I sing "The Chain." I was so very nervous and excited - I never sang to a huge crowd before and never been to NYC that since I was known as a local public figure in Reno, NV - I went to many businesses and friends to see if they would help sponsor me in which I raised about $1200 for my 1st trip to the Big Apple. I was also featured in 2 of the main newspapers in Reno, The Reno Gazette and the Reno News and Review (music magazine) which ran the same day on both. I received more than 3000 hits to my myspace page after publications were released to the community.

I was so excited to perform "The Chain" in front of everyone that after my performance, I bawled backstage in front of performers. I found a quote from one of the NOTS performers, Jazmen Flowers who quoted me in The Ledge (An official Fleetwood Mac site which can be found at http://www.TheLedge.com as saying "Charlene Coran was so good...and overwhelmed backstage after her performance." Here is the link to my first debut 2006 performance as you can hear I was a bit nervous and my vocals were shaky at first. The audio/visual was not that great either but thanks to Sharon Bos - I was able to have a memory of my first real public experience: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-9cH7SMwDM " - Charlene Marie Coran

OMG!! Is this the same Joshua Paul-Angell as that (retired) world renown fashion designer extraordinaire?? Surely he is as good a broadcaster as he is a radio show host and a publicist. And if he says The Ledge is an "official" Fleetwood Mac website, then he must know something (especially the URL)! Oh, to be so connected, multi-talented, glamorous and fabulous!

Don't see how I could swing it this year. I have to be in NY in July, and doubt very much I could do both (financially). I won't rule it out, though. It really could be a quick week-end road trip for me. And I do have that Marriott connection...:woohoo:

was severely disappointed in NOTS last year. It appears not a whole lot of thought was put into the music mix as well as the performances, which seemed more as a way to attempt to show off people's own "talents" as opposed to tributes to Stevie. Will not be attending this year.

I saw that there are new performers this year.

Slevy Nicks/Fleetwood Maxx (NYC)
Rebecca Lemay (Alabama)
Johnny Quinlan (NYC)
Michelle Tyler/Bella Donna (LA)
Fleetwood Visions (Toronto)
Lea Lorien (duet with Adam Joseph)

I don't know any of these people, but sounds cool!

Well, to be fair, the point of NOTS is not necessarily to deliver true Stevie realness. I can appreciate a good original, if not faithful, take on a Stevie song. However, I agree that they really need to edit down the list of performers to people with actual musical ability. No drag queens lip synching. No drunkards bellowing tunelessly in a wig. I actually walked out of NOTS early because I just could not stand one more sh***y performance, and one in particular just pushed me over the brink.

Hello All,

I was waiting for this newsletter to come out before I made any mention of my gig this year at NOTS. In the middle it reads:

“Each year new performers and show elements are added to seed the next generation of this long-running show. NOTS 21 will mark the debut of VJ TRE (WASHINGTON DC) who will spin rare Stevie and Fleetwood video for the first hour of NOTS”

That’s me, VJ Tre. :)

I’m very excited and honored that they invited me to play this year. It’ll be a short stint, probably closer to 90 min from what I’ve been told. They want me to start at approximately 8:45 (before they even open). They say that there are already close to 60 to 70 people in the venue, performers and their guests, and then of course doors open at 9:00. Some of you may recall the remix videos I’ve posted here, “Seven Wonders”, “Blue Denim”, “I Can’t Wait” and “Sorcerer.” I have new videos in the works that I will debut at NOTS. I’m going to work extra hard to make my set is special, from the moment I start until my closing video. In addition to the remix videos listed above I plan to have at least 3 brand new ones, possibly a 4th if there is time to get it all together. Maybe I’ll get to meet some of you.

True Hejira, I hate to keep complaining about the event, but I will anyway :) Not sure who the DJ was last year, but he was HORRIBLE. Kept playing the SAME Stevie songs over and over and over again, you could tell he was not a true Stevie fan. They definately need to mix up the music much better, bring out some rare/album tracks instead of the same 5 "hits" that were getting played in rotation every hour! There, done :)

Not sure which DJ you are referring to but it could be that they are asked to play certain songs. I can understand some songs being repeated as everyone has not arrived at the venue yet. However, as you pointed out there are certainly enough songs that are probably being overlooked that could be played. As the opening VJ I’m only playing approximately a 90 minute set so, for anyone that is there during that time I can guarantee you that I will most definitely be playing some rare gems.

I was just saying that I had heard Jazmen is not very nice in person and that that made me sad because she's the reason I even went to NOTS in the first place. So, I wondered what others thought. I really want to just say hello. Then, I went on to say some things about her intensely gorgeous figure (especially her knockers) and maybe I went to farr. HaHa.

Someone sent me a message that it was against board policy to post addresses. Or ask for them Iguess.

I don't know any of them but from what I do know about the whole drag queen/performing scene from others, (I've never performed or wanted to, I just do it for fun) but from what I've heard some performers can indeed be mean and catty towards each other and the same goes for ones who are Stevie impersonators and that's where a lot of the strife comes from between the Tribute bands in my opinion. Every one thinks they do it better.

But I just dress up in fun for me and never care what or how others are doing their thing. Everyone has their own corner of the world to stretch out and do things their way so that's how I've always looked at that whole thing.

No I don't know those people and never talked to them. Others who have may be able to offer some insight into how they are as people.

Maybe you should strike up a conversation. You just may be fast friends.

Then you can tell me what she's really like! HaHa. Or maybe we can all hang out!

I've been on this board for a year or two now and on Sevenwonders for about 4. None of the impersonators for whatever their reasons, have ever become chummy with me. Like I said, I think we all tend to think we do it better so that's maybe why some aren't close or friends. I really don't know what it is, but I just do my thing and let people do theirs and that's fine with me.

I thoroughly enjoyed my NOTS experience last year. I wish I could make it a yearly event, but too many things going on throughout the spring and summer. I did not meet up with any Ledgies at the show, though had a delightful lunch with one before hand.

With all of the incredible talent, I have to admit that the lip synching seemed a bit silly, but I think that some of these performers have been involved for a long time and even though they're not singing, they're part of the whole vibe.

VERY excited to see old and new friends at NOTS 21 on May 6 - and to hear and see your set Travis - that is awesome! As for the lipsynch performers + trannies - there are so many tribute acts and shows all over where performers seek to look and/or sound exactly like Stevie or FM - that has never been the point of NOTS as far as I can figure out. Especially this year with a new album out and Stevie herself playing this month and next on the east Coast its fun to have a night to get dressed up and just pay homage to her!!! (And whatever year she actually shows up at NOTS, I think she would get a kick out of the trannies, from comments she has made before)

Anyway just my two cents and you can see from my handle I am a notsfan! But I am a bigger Stevie fan and cant wait for IYD + NOTS in the same week - and maybe Webster Hall too but I just heard that was a record release party and not a concert? Anyone know for sure?

That's interesting about Webster Hall...where did you hear it is a record release party?

I texted a friend who works with WH and thats what he had heard - Webster is a small house for a full concert so more often for someone as major as Stevie they would do a record release event and the artist appears for a song or two - still would be great. I am sure we will all find out soon tho and dont want to start any Rumours! (Or hijack this topic - if I hear anything else definite I will post in the topic about 5/4)

It does seem like a lot of artists do release parties there...so that would make sense! Thanks for the info...can't wait to find out more on Monday! :)

Just want to remind you guys that I’m fortunate enough to be the opening VJ (video jockey) this year. The only thing I’m nervous about is the technical “stuff” but Highline assures me we are good. Say a prayer that everything goes smoothly.

Doors open at 9:00 and I’m playing a full hour of Stevie videos. :blob1:

Some of you have seen some of the video edits I’ve posted here in the past. I have brand new ones that I will be premiering at NOTS. If you don’t want to miss them then please be there at 9 ready to walk in. I have a special little intro planned as well to get things going. Hope you all can make it.

Here is a sneak peek at a video still :)

A fukll hour of Stevie videos in a club in NYC!! I HATE that my boiler exploded and Ihad to spend my NOTS money on getting new one!! Especially as I did start this thread with the full intent of getting my ass over there! It's a bit upsetting...

NOTS 21 - The Wild Heart

Ledgie Travis acted as DJ/VJ for the pre-show DJ set. The video display was transfixing.

Forgive me if I don't know the names or get the names wrong of the performers.

Act 1
1. Beauty and The Beast - Dance troupe. Couldn't really pay attention because some annoying guy was arhythmically shaking his tambourine next to my ear. I moved.
2. Dreams - Crystal Visions. A Canadian all-drag Mac tribute act. I can't remember the performance.
3. Rhiannon - Jessy Wild. And old-school rocker lady. But she did a great job on Rhiannon--mimicking some of Stevie's old-school flourishes while coming up with some of her own--accompanied by her son on guitar. One of the evening's highlights.
4. Talk to Me. Don't remember.
5. Storms - Amber Martin. She always annoys me. She's very bawdy. And sarcasmic. But when she gets to singing: she always does a good job. And this year she outdid herself with her superb band accompanying her and the lead guitarist adding beautiful harmonies and vocal layers
6. Crystal - Adam Joseph-plus. It's no secret I find AJ's affectations annoying and his vocals on Stevie songs to be cloying, but after a really really really off start (probably due to loud soundboard), I would actually say this was his best NOTS performance by far. I wish I knew more about hte family of musicians (mom and daughter on vocals, father on guitar) that accompanied him, but they really raised this one up, while AJ's voice was appropriate within this combination.

Act 2
7. Wild Heart - The Hohos. Ingenius! I wouldn't say they topped last year's Red Rock re-enactment, but this was spectacular. They mimicked the album cover of The Wild Heart, the "If Anyone Falls" ballet duet (hilarious!), BOTH of Stevie's hairstyles in two different interviews in which she repeatedly uses the word "wild," all while doing a credible vocal on the night's theme song AND mashing it up with Duran Duran's Wild Boys! A multi-media coup. Saturday Night Live hasn't been this clever in decades.
8. Smile At You - Jazmen Flowers. Last year, I think Jazmen came in second on my list of favorite performances. This year, there was no competition. Smile At You was transfixing and epic. Bravo!
9. Sorcerer - Black Swan spoof. Black Swan was already camp, but this also spoofed the film's inane acclaim. Just not sure I get why it goes with Sorcerer... (I guess Sorcerer is a song about showbiz).
10. Stop Dragging My Heart Around - Sherry Vine. It dragged. :sorry:
11. Gold Dust Woman - The harpist returns. Nothing compares to the first year I saw the harpist. The second year was a disaster because the sound was too loud and it just filled the space with an annoying rumble that left me deaf for days. They got the sound right this year but I didn't really dig the concept: As if a traveling male singer and harpist from back in the Old West were singing Gold Dust Woman. The vocal was very fine. And the harpist was interesting. But I think people were confused about how to take the whole look of it and affectations (singing out of the side of the mouth).
12. If Anyone Falls - Don't remember.
13. The Chain - A Dance number.

Act 3
14. Enchanted - Little Stevie. Puppet. Didn't seem very Stevie to me in terms of gestures (even the spinning was tooooo much) but the stage extension at the end was a great visual.
15. Rooms on Fire - Don't remember. (Sorry I got tired)
16. Silver Springs - Stevie Nixxx. Solid tribute, but I miss some of the more inventive interpretations from previous years. (Really only Jazmen offered that this year.) Ended with: "Thank you. Silver Springs is a great old song."
At this point, the MC said something interesting (I forget to what it was in reference): "And it was: magic." I think the ending of "You May Be the One" may officially have entered the Mac fans Lexicon.
17. Billy O - Gypsy. Billy O might be some kind of genius. Dedicating this song to a friend lost in the last year, it was both genuine (there were moments he seemed to get overwhelmed by emotion) and, and I don't know how HE does it, a celebration of our shared love for the Mac and for the song. It's an uncanny spectacle, what a man in red shawl can do.
18. At Last - Velocity Child. Burlesque number set to Stevie's At Last cover. I love Stevie's version, so it was great to hear it with an audience and the performance was very ... burlesquey. Which is appropriate to the tone of the whole show. Fun. If not my thing.
19. Bombay Sapphire - Grace. The unintended result of this performance was me validating my belief that IYD is a huge improvement over TISL.
20. Sisters of the Moon - Johnny Quinlan of Robel Hotel. A man and a keyboard. Kind of the Rufus Wainright version of the song, except Quinlan is a better singer.
21. Edge Battle - Always cathartic spectacle. In past years, I felt more of a sense of military troops marching into a conquered city, but... at least this year no poseurs were allowed.

Hey Everyone,

I’m just chiming in real quick to say what an amazing night I had last night. I feel so blessed and fortunate to have been a part of NOTS 21. My set ended around 10:15 so obviously the fans that showed up later missed the videos, but I was pleased at the amount of fans that were there during the first hour. True Faith, it was nice to meet you. I’m sorry we cut it short. Thank you for your nice words, and thank you Dodfather.

I’ll upload some of the videos in the coming days but for now, here is the last clip I played, my outro that led into the welcoming of Night of a Thousand Stevies 21 - The Wild Heart.

I am just recovering from last night and enjoyed reading your comments TrueFaith. In many years of going to NOTS the performance of Crystal last night was a personal favorite. The family of musicians were:

David Bowie guitarist Carlos Alomar, who has also played with James Brown, Iggy Pop, Mick Jagger and more recently the Scissor Sisters. A Legend

His wife, singer Robin Clark who has also performed with Bowie and was part of Simple Minds in the 80s

Their daughter Lea Lorien is a dance music artist who has had hits with producer David Morales.

They did a great job on Crystal with Adam - the harmonies and solos specially.

Also loved the ballet dancer on pointe to "Beauty and the Beast" that opened the show - AFTER THE MESSAGE FROM STEVIE OF COURSE - how amazing was that?

I pretty much agree with all of this. There were a few standouts, Jazzy and Johnny Quinlan, for sure. It was a great time even though I ended up spending way too much on too few drinks. Is it just me or were the drinks ridiculous? It was hot as hell too. I talked to a couple people who were newbies and were quite surprised with the overall tone of the show. There was a bit too much t and a (and p) for them. Anyway, great time. Everyone should go at least once.

Oh, and is there some reason 99% of the people there decided not to wear deodorant. A lot of folks reeked of pot and BO.

He looks like Lucy Lawless in the face. That was a really great performance. There was a performance someone did of Sisters of the Moon that I thought was terrific. Not sure if it was last year or the year before.

Jaz did that version of Sisters of the Moon last year.

Here is my video set list from NOTS 21. I started to play at 8:38. At this point only staff, crew, performers and their guests were in the venue. I didn’t want to play any of my new video edits yet, as I was saving them for when a crowd had formed, so I pretty much just played mostly original videos. I was also trying to hold out on playing the special Intro to NOTS until some of my friends were inside and a larger crowd had gathered. I couldn’t wait any longer so at approximately 9:16 I played my intro clip. In the week prior to NOTS when I was practicing and deciding what I wanted to play and in what order, I realized that I had way too much material. I didn’t even get to play half of what I wanted to play or some of my new video edits.

Before we opened:
20:38 : Sometimes It's A Bitch
20:44 : Stop Draggin' My Heart Around (Outtake)
20:47 : Every Day
20:51 : Angel (a mix of Stevie in the studio and the live clip both from the Tusk doc. edited to the album version)
20:56 : If You Ever Did Believe
20:59 : Big Love

Venue opens:
21:03 : Little Lies (Rockamerica Remix) (this is the video edited by rockamerica set to the extended version)
21:09 : Secret Love
21:12 : Paper Doll

My real set begins:
21:16 : NOTS Intro (Outside the Rain-Stand Back) (special edit of various people saying Stevie’s name ending with her Dad then charging into the US Fest of OTR/SB)

21:24 : Dreams (with Deep Dish) (video edit of at least 8 performances of Dreams all set to the Deep Dish mix)

21:29 : Ooh My Love (a video montage of pics from the OSOTM era)

21:34 : Seven Wonders (Remix Edit)

21:38 : Whole Lotta Trouble (Edited Remix) (I think most agree that the original video was not Stevie’s best live vocal so I had this re-tracked to the single edit remix and you can’t even tell. This gives it the “umph”, the extra kick)

21:42 : It's Late (Chris Isaak Hour)

21:44 : Sorcerer (Marilyn Martin version) – this is a special clip, like a mini movie featuring Diane Lane, Stevie and Sheryl all singing along to the Marilyn Martin version. The video also incorporates a clip of Stevie and Mick for the bridge. Very cool “if I do say so myself.”

21:49 : I Can't Wait (Discotech Remix) – Disco Tech was a CD pool service from the 80’s and 90’s and they took ICW and made a mix using both the Rock and Dance mixes. This video is set to that mix.

21:54 : No Spoken Word (Album Version) – The Red Rocks performance edited to the album version.

21:58 : Gypsy (Extended Mix) – The video edited to the extended mix found on FM’s The Chain boxed set.

22:04 : Nightbird (Live from SNL) – thanks to GoldDustOrphan for uploading this clip.

22:08 : Edge of Seventeen (Live from Storytellers) – this was re-tracked from the old VHS tape using the CD audio from the Storytellers CD.

22:15 : NOTS Outro – I posted the link for this one above on page 6

I'll take that as I think Lucy Lawless is gorgeous! see, I knew I could play Lucretia if ever Starz would ask. and I did SOTM last year. thanks for liking it.

this year was over the top in terms of massive amounts of fun. I spent a week in NYC and I have to say, this NOTS was the most fun I've ever had. I was a little nervous of doing a song I knew a lot of the crowd wouldn't know (one of the performers even said "I've never heard that...what's it from?"), but I like how things turned out. already planning next year.

there were so many amazing performances and Travis did an excellent job with his opening set. I noticed all those little nuances and was very impressed. kudos VJ TRE!

I haven't mentioned much about NOTS lately but I want you all to know how awesome I think you are for creating such a wonderful event. To all of the people that have attended, DJ's, performers, producers, anyone actually that has anything to do with this, I LOVE YOU ALL!

I am so thrilled that Stevie sent the message she did this year. That must have been so exciting to be there and have the video played. Someday I will be at this event but I'll be in a disguise and no one will recognize me until I get up on the stage and start singing, lol!

I seriously get chills whenever I watch the videos from NOTS...just that feeling of having the common bond we all share, that passion that most wouldn't understand. I am truly touched...

OK I AM DYING!!!! That is the cutest and freakiest thing I've ever seen and literally brought tears to my eyes from laughter. Who did this? How creatively freakish but my question is how come the doll didn't fall down after spinning for a minute straight?

Stevie would sure get a kick outta this....

Edit: PUPPET MASTER come out come out wherever you are...you're effin brilliant!

Oh, and is there some reason 99% of the people there decided not to wear deodorant. A lot of folks reeked of pot and BO.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I do not want us Stevie fans to be known for reeking of BO!

In 1 night, 1,000 Stevies: For the 21st time

A capacity crowd gathered at the Highline Ballroom on the evening of Friday, May 6, for the 21st annual Night of a Thousand Stevies — the yearly celebration of all things Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac. Hosted, as always, by nightlife queen Chi Chi Valenti (with the help of Hattie Hathaway and Johnny Dynell), this year’s theme was “The Wild Heart.”

The homage attracted performers including Butoh group Vangeline Theater, Sherry Vine, Cathy Cervenka of the HoHos, Machine Dazzle with Darrell Thorne of the Pixie Harlots, Billy O, and Poison Eve and Darlinda Just Darlinda, who performed a spirited “Black Swan” vignette. Puppeteer Basil Twist kicked off Act 3 by unveiling “Little Stevie” performing to “Enchanted.” And this year, for the first time ever, Stevie Nicks herself sent a video message promising to appear incognito for a future NOTS. Ha, I'm so excited my "Little Stevie" got a mention in the press. Ya'll know I'm just crazy about her. I'm still floored by her performance. In fact, she was way better than Stevie's been recently .

'98's Best: One A Stevie, Two A Stevie, Three A Stevie...
Frank Tortorici, Addicted To Noise, 13 May 1998

IN A CROWD of 500, you could count about 200 look-alike, sound-alike, dress-alike Stevies. But there's only one Stevie Nicks.

NEW YORK – "All Stevie All The Time."

The guy decked out in Stevie Nicks drag and standing on the stage recited this mantra over and over in an eerie, monotone voice. But he needn't have bothered.

No one would have any trouble realizing that Tuesday night was the eighth annual "Night of 1,000 Stevies," the yearly tribute to Fleetwood Mac's gypsy-woman singer held at Mother, a club in this city's meat-packing district of Greenwich Village.

There were Stevies of every shape and gender. Tall, manly Stevies. Soft, feminine ones as short even as the 5-foot-1 Nicks herself. Stevies with noses that dominated their hard features. Black Stevies. Asian Stevies. Bartender Stevies. Stevies as striking as the legendary singer, who was recently named one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world by People magazine.

In a crowd of 500, you could count about 200 look-alike, sound-alike, dress-alike Stevies. Not 1,000 by any stretch of a fan's imagination, but a hell of a lot of Stevies nonetheless.

Adding to the bewitching atmosphere, tambourines hung from the ceiling with frilly pink lace dangling off of them. Dozens of black capes flowed throughout the jam-packed dance room. And a veritable Stevie jukebox pounded away as DJs dressed as the Welsh witch spun sides spanning her 25-year career.

Mother features "Jackie 60" – a sort of dress-up, anything-goes night – every Tuesday, and this week's honoree was the flighty rock heroine. During the night, for which people paid a $10 entrance fee, participants – some who stayed to 4:30 in the morning – competed to see who could best capture the spirit of Stevie Nicks in performance. Other Jackie events include Hollywood Madams night and "Riverdance: Lord of The Gas." Not your ordinary bar, but definitely something to see. And hear.

"Stand back ... in the middle of my room I did not hear from you ..." blared the Nicks hit 'Stand Back' in the section of Mother decorated as a Versailles sitting room. Meanwhile, 'Enchanted', the title song from Nicks' recently released box-set retrospective, had the crowd spinning a la Nicks on the dance-floor area.

Chi Chi Valenti is a short, attractive blonde who opened Mother in 1996 and who, along with her husband, DJ Johnny Dynell, is the mastermind behind the "Night of 1,000 Stevies."

On Tuesday, as she stood dressed in her Stevie best, she could hardly contain herself, staring out at the surreal sight of so many Stevies gathered together. "My favorite thing [about the night] is the performers who come from so far away and who completely rock us with their [Nicks] interpretations," said Valenti, who lives in New York City.

When her turn came onstage, Valenti wowed the crowd by lip-synching to the Fleetwood Mac classic 'Gypsy'. "I didn't find Stevie with Fleetwood Mac," Valenti later explained. "I got into her [music] about the time of 'Stand Back' in '83."

Between acts, the audience – filled as well with non-performing, mostly female Stevie wannabes and cliques of macho men dancing wildly with tambourines – was entertained by Dolly and Eliza Domination, dancers dressed as Stevie in flowing capes, black body suits and high boots who fondled and kissed each other erotically while they gyrated to Nicks' songs.

"White-Winged Dove" ... "Nightbird" ... "Lindsey Buckingham" ... "Gold Dust Woman" ... etc. recited emcee Hattie Hathaway repeatedly to keep everyone in the mood between introductions of the various Stevies. Not all of the performers chose to lip-synch. When it came time for her turn, Hathaway offered a fevered vocal to Tom Petty's 'Free Fallin'' (which Nicks covers on the box set) as guitarist Frankie Bragg (dubbed "our Waddy Wachtel" by Valenti in reference to Nicks' frequent guitarist) strummed away passionately. The orange-haired Hathaway even took a stab at the harmonica during the number.

Nicki Sixx, a.k.a. Enchantress, who looked more like a cross between Loni Anderson and Nicks, was a clear crowd favorite as she gave an emotional reading of 'Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You', a melodramatic ballad off Nicks' 1985 hit album, Rock A Little. As Sixx aped the track's recitative coda ("And sometimes they ask her about the men in her life ... ") wearing a black bustier with silver sparkles, the crowd went wild, as if they were listening to the real thing.

"I love Stevie ... her voice ... her fashion sense," Sixx said. "I drove all night long from Iowa. This is my third year."

There was even a German existentialist Stevie, who would give Icelandic pixie songstress Bjork a run for her money as far as way-out performances go. This Stevie, in silver horn-rimmed glasses and blond, straw-like hair, spoke the words to 'Rhiannon' accompanied by a fat fraulein, looking like something straight out of a Wagner opera, on accordion.

But not everyone out that night was there to honor their favorite singer by doing his or her best Stevie impersonation. For 29-year-old Melanie Gilbert of Westchester, N.Y., who is a member of two online mailing lists dedicated to Nicks, Enchanted and Rumours, this was a first.

"Stevie has a gift for capturing the mystical side of life," Gilbert explained. "It's amazing but cool that so many people seem to understand what it's like to be a Stevie fanatic."

Gilbert's friend, 30-year-old Tanya Kukucka, elaborated: "Stevie's got this weird magic about her that envelops you, especially when you see her in concert."

By the looks of the people – spinning wildly in their frocks, singing to Stevie Nicks classics and looking completely at home in their Stevie makeup and hairdo – it's a magic that could only be the handiwork of a real witch.

But, despite all the impostors, the real Stevie was nowhere in sight.
