I'm going have to say Lindsey......because with Stevie.....Everything after Wild Heart has been.....ummmmmm.....BAD. Sorry folks. I want a great album from her....but my expectations are Low:shrug: Lindsey's the opposite. With him....I've loved everything AFTER the first 2 albums....So we'll see:thumbsup:

With Dave Stewart on the album, I really have no idea :distress:
I really hope that Stevie's is good. TISL is my favorite album, so she definitely has potential. I just don't see much potential in Everybody Loves You. As Louie has said numerous times, that and Cheaper Than Free are so unlike Stevie.
Lindsey on the other hand has truly delivered with his past 3 solo albums. I didn't care too much for UTS, but GoS and OoTC are two of the greatest albums ever.

In general, I prefer Stevie's solo stuff as a whole, but after Wild Heart, she became worse and worse with each album. However, Lindsey has gotten better after those first 2 albums and, after hearing Out of the Cradle and Gift of Screws, I might have to vote for his.

Lindsey. I have never nor will I ever buy a Stevie album unless it's with Lindsey or Fleetwood Mac including Lindsey.

Is it that you don't enjoy Stevie's work as a solo act? I always thought at first that I would be the same about Lindsey's work, as Stevie was my gateway into her own music and the whole Mac scene. But since I heard a few songs from Go Insane I've never been able to look back. I love his work far more than anything Stevie ever did. Maybe it's the work that he puts into it as well as the amazing lyrics and melodic structure. I've great respect for somebody who can work so hard on what they love and reap only the basic rewards because what they love is enough of a reward for them.

Well I will tell you.....I don't what it is. I just love the whole vibe Lindsey's solo work presents.....The lyrics, the studio trickery, the guitar playing. Lindsey's music is an EXPERIENCE. It takes me places Stevie's music simply cannot. Try as she might.

It's too bad that the posts on The Ledge don't have like buttons.

We're missing two choices:
"They'll be equally as good" (which would be my vote)
and
"they'll both suck". (which WOULD get some votes)

I think Lindsey and Stevie solo are just too different to compare. Lindsey's pretty far left on the experimental trickery, and Stevie's solidly traditional. Lindsey's Out Of The Cradle was better than all Stevie's albums combined, in my opinion. Hell, it was probably better than any of the Rumours Era Mac albums. But you could argue Stevie's solo albums have been more consistent through the years than Lindsey's (for better or worse).
Personally, I'm looking forward to Stevie's new album the most. Mainly because it's been a decade, I'm curious to hear what she has to say, and how she may have evolved as an artist. Secondly, we've heard rumblings that Lindsey's new album will be another acoustic outing... and I'm sorry, but Under The Skin was horrendously monotonous to me. :distress:

ditto. (although my husband owns timespace - so technically we have a Stevie album some place in the household:))

Agreed. I found it to be extremely boring. Honestly, I think I only listened to it.....maybe 4 times. It was just another LB fingerpicking thing, over and over.
Hey Lindsey, how about rocking us out?

I can't compare them as solo artists. To me, the solo music represents them as individual stylists. I enjoy Stevie's lyrics and Lindsey's music over everything else I hear in their work, so if it all comes together in the right package, with music I like, careful production and great mixing, etc. then that's just icing on the cake.
I am sure I will enjoy both projects equally.... I hope. If not, then more than likely I will hate Dave Stewart and really love Lindsey's cd.
(but I did love Dave's show in Nashville, so I have great hopes Stevie's cd will be awesome).

I can't agree at all. It was a really good album. I liked the idea of an all acoustic record. Flying Down Juniper is one of the best songs he's ever written IMO and Under The Skin is an amazing song... in fact it should have opened the album. Sure there songs on it that I skip... same goes for GoS as well. But if you combine them, trim some fat... you have perfection.
1. Under The Skin
2. Did You Miss Me
3. Love Runs Deeper
4. I am Waiting
5. Wait For You
6. Treason
7. Gift Of Screws
8. Try For the Sun
9. Underground
10. Down on Rodeo
11. Right Place To Fade
12. Flying Down Juniper
Best of both worlds. I'm not saying the remaining songs that I didn't put on here are bad. Songs like Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind, Cast Away Dreams and Shut Us Down are good as well. I basically picked my favorite 12 and made sure they sounded good in this running order.

I like that lineup. Also UTS grew on me. I love it now. However I think I would prefer A harder album at this point.

interesting; you have some songs that i would never put on my short list (Flying down juniper, Did you miss me, I am waiting). so i tried to put together my trimmed down list of the UTS/GOS songs, and it actually does have 8 song overlap with yours:
1. To Try For The Sun
2. Cast Away Dreams
3. The Right Place to Fade
4. Down On Rodeo
5. Wait for You
6. Gift of Screws
7. Underground
8. Love Runs Deeper

I think Lindsey and Stevie solo are just too different to compare. Lindsey's pretty far left on the experimental trickery, and Stevie's solidly traditional. They're definitely too different to compare, but I think you only describe a single by-product, not the fundamental reason. He builds tracks, she doesn't. It would be idiotic to talk about the orchestration, for example, on a Stevie Nicks album because the music is designed only to be a backdrop. Lindsey builds the whole track from the ground up (or from the mind outward), & the artifact is a discrete creation that rewards a closer look, quite apart from whatever song is used to port the lyrical ideas. When we speak of Stevie & her backdrops on any of her albums, we're using a figure of speech (something like metonymy). "Stevie" = "Session musicians+producers." It's the latter guys who give her whatever backdrop her albums have, whereas Lindsey's most important work is orchestral color, as he used to say over & over ("My main contribution to the band isn't as a singer or as a guitarist but as someone who can take raw material & fashion it into a track").
It surprises none of us that Lindsey has recorded instrumental tracks -- & long instrumental stretches within tracks -- for final release on his albums (ever since "Frozen Love," in fact). But can you imagine an instrumental track on a Stevie Nicks album? The idea is loopy because that isn't where the focus ever is in her work.

talking about musicians/producers, any opinions on old instrumental "Lily Was Here" from Stevie's current producer?

Totally agree with this, David. And I think that's why I personally don't really like LB's stuff. I realise as I write this that I don't really 'do' music, as such. I like some Chopin, a bit of Schubert - but after a while the absence of lyrics starts to bother me. Same reason I don't like prog rock or jazz (though I love swing a la Porter and R&H, because the lyrics are great).
Maybe there's just too much sound in LB's music? Any rate, I don't know if I'll 'like' SN's new album, but like Louie I'm just more eager to see where she's going.
Good thread. :)

I LOVE Lily Was Here, I think it's an amazing song! The interplay between Dave's guitar and Candy's sax is just incredible, and that bass line, god I love that song!!!!
