-- This much can be said for Stevie Nicks` solo career: It won`t suffer for lack of material. ``I have about 50 songs from the last two years,`` she reports. ``And if you want to go back through the archives, I`ve probably got another 300.`` Nicks is now wading through some of those songs with producer Rupert Hine, selecting tracks for her fourth solo album, which she hopes to release early next year. Meanwhile, she`ll go into the studio with Fleetwood Mac and producer Don Gehman to record two new songs for a greatest-hits album that`s due this fall.

But it`s her solo album that Nicks is most anxious to work on. ``My music outside of Fleetwood Mac has always been really special to me,`` she says. She`s already done three songs: The Tragedy of One`s Own Soul, Dial a Number and Don`t Treat Me Like a Stranger with Kenny G. Once her record is finished, she plans to make another Mac album, do a solo tour, then tour with the band. ``I`m trying really hard to make everybody happy,`` she says.

When the album was released I wondered why those songs were nowhere to be found. Those songs were also mentioned in a Rolling Stone issue.

Do you think these songs were part of an alternative TOSOTM that was scrapped at the last minute like Mirror, Mirror, or am I getting too much into conspiracy junk?

Anyways, those songs could have easily been songs that had been for a previously planed tracklisting, and at the last minute, they got removed for other songs

I am so glad she went with the album title "Rock A Little" with the crystal ball and witchy black outfit on the front and that beautiful beaded headdress photo on the back instead of the proposed Mirror, Mirror album. I couldn't see RAL and the era being anything but and I wouldn't toy with history. I think even though it's a dark time for her she is very proud of that time period and album and so am I. Wouldn't go changing a thing!

You're probably not too far off base. Stevie is horrifically flakey.

When *is* that Rhiannon album coming out?

Which is good news! Perhaps "Everybody Loves You" "Cheaper Than Free" "Annabell Lee" and the twilight song won't make her new album!

I could have sworn this was from RS magazine. I had this clipped back then & there's no way I would have been reading a Florida paper.

The Tragedy of One`s Own Soul, Dial a Number and Don`t Treat Me Like a Stranger with Kenny G.

Have these songs leaked? I have heard of The Tragedy Of One's Own Soul but never actually heard the track. As for the other two, this is the first I'm hearing of them. It would be great to hear any versions of these that exist, even in rough demo form. I could do without the Kenny G bit though but can't be helped! Uuuughhh... WHY did she work with him?!

Yes, all of those songs have been leaked, being on the Masters Reels. "Tragedy Of One's Own Soul" is in a different form as "Lily Girl", having many of the same lyrics and the exact same musical track.

There are several vocal takes of "Dial The Number", seven, I believe. (The song's music is co-written by Sandy Stewart and was recorded originally for The Wild Heart).

"Don't Treat Me Like A Stranger" is on the Masters in a shorter version, complete with backing vocals (including that male vocalist from "Real Tears"!). There is also a 7-minute version on the Masters with many more lyrics.

The writing on the Reels indicated these songs were recorded in February 1988, and lists the producer as Jimmy Iovine. Weird, huh? Maybe the producer listing was an old one leftover?

Thanks for the info - does anyone have these to share?

By the sound of all these lost songs and scrapped albums I keep on hearing about, she probably could release a new album once every 2 years without ever having to step foot in a studio again (or am I thinking she's like Tupac with the posthumous releases a bit too much?)

Here's a link to the folder where these songs can be downloaded. They're all stinkers, really. It's no wonder they were all nixed. Ha!

The numbering is a mistake - there are only five tracks on this particular reel.

Stevie Nicks Kenny G 1988
SN - 01 - Lily Girl (instr. sax version).wav
SN - 03 - DTMLAS (instr. sax version).wav
SN - 04 - Lily Girl (Take #2 Track 7).wav
SN - 05 - Dial The Number (vocal harmonies & sax).wav
SN - 06 - DTMLAS (vocal track #9) .wav

Oh, I love all of them! Stevie's lyrics on "Don't Treat Me Like A Stranger" break my heart. I especially love the link with "Juliet".

Pass some more Kool-Aid for me!!!

I think DTMLAS and Dial the Number have potential, but Lily Girl is a total mess.

The main problem I have with these songs are the droning, sleepy quality they posess. They sound the way I imagine Klonopin feels. I think DTMLAS and Lily Girl are in severe need of lyrical pruning so they actually make some sense and have a cohesive flow to them....but that's a Stevie-issue that sometimes she can't overcome - which in this case is why I suspect these tracks were dropped. They'd be "great" for a light-rock adult-contemprary-feeling album, but I hope Stevie never feels the need to make one of those.

All in all, a requirement for the collector - a skip for the normal fan.

I don't think there was an "alternate" TOSOTM; I think those 3 songs just got dropped (thankfully, b/c they're terrible iirc - haven't listened to them in awhile).

I agree w/ fringed n fab - Rock A Little is pretty frickin' fabulous, the way it came out. It would be interesting to hear a completed version of Mirror Mirror, tho...lord knows there are enough tracks from that session.

I think a couple of these were co-written with Sandy, and this was right around the time of Stevie's second or third falling out with her!

I have never heard of a falling out with Sandy. Seems like they must get on fine, since Stevie enlisted her songs sporadically over the years since Wild Heart.

I'm so glad these songs never came to fruition. Although each have some interesting moments, they never materialize or satisfy. As a collector I'm happy to have them, but rarely listen. The Tragedy Of Owns Soul is probably my favorite. That song really gives you a glimpse inside Stevie's mind at the time and how completely vulnerable & sad she was. It's truly heartbreaking and then you realize it's party about her rehab and kicking and crawling her way back to sanity.

It was from Rolling Stone. I even remember the pic they used with it. It was from 87 ... I don't think it was this exact picture but if was from the same photo session:
