I just really detest what I've heard of that song. Adult Contemporary trash. And I personally don't think Dave and Stevie's voices blend AT ALL. I just hope this isn't a taste of what's to come with Stevie's new album... but with the addition of Annabel Lee, I'm guessing it is :distress:.

Agreed. I'm still holding hope though that it will be a typical Stevie album and that Dave's prints aren't all over it. If these two songs make the cut, then it's safe to say the rest of the album will have a similar feel unless they happen to be stand-alone tracks.

I was excited for a split second. This is not new. This is the demo that Dave S. leaked last March on Twitter right after he and Stevie first began writing songs together. I'm sure the final version recorded in the studio last summer will be much more polished, and if Dave's vocals are still prominent on the track, I bet they will be mixed in a way that is more pleasing. Ann Marie Calhoun adds a nice touch on violin. I suspect the new CD will feature strings on several tracks which is also one of Dave's trademark's.
The song has potential. I look forward to it's final form.

"Everybody loves you, but you're so alone" don't you see the similarities?!!?! I bet Stevie does! All this song needs is a jolt of cocaine and some whargarbl and possibly a wtf line such as "and the starts and the river and the moon and the WELLLLLLLLL I thought I told you that this the the edge of the world in a starstream snow dream, LILYYYYYY!!!!!!" and it might not suck some major boar tits!

Way to be positive! I agree!
Rough, not yet mixed or polished tracks are very hard to make a good judgement on.
I also highly doubt Stevie will release an album of these types of tracks, and compare it to Bella Donna.

Wow, you people are mean.
I liked it. I think it has a nice alternative feel. I've always been a huge Eurythmics fan and Dave did some amazing things with Annie's voice. And I happen to like Annabell Lee a lot so I guess I'm in the minority here.
Can I ask you guys a question though. Here we are on a Stevie forum, and yes we are all encouraged to share our thoughts and feelings, both negative and positive, but how would you feel if Stevie read this board? Aside from the joking around, which I myself have been known to do, comments like saying her new album is gonna suck and the sample of this song is so terrible are really hurtful. I've noticed this on all kinds of message boards. I work for a video production company and when I've spent months working on a project and then I see comments on blogs where people cut it to shreds, often just from looking at a promo and not even the whole video, it really hurts my feelings. Sure, I take it with a grain of salt but it is still hurtful. And I'm shocked that people could be that mean to attack something someone else has put a lot of hard work into with such hate and venom.

I fail to actually spot "venom" in anybody's posts, merely opinions which we are all entitled to. Firstly, Stevie would never read this board because she and technology rarely meet. Secondly, would you suggest that from now on we all conduct ourselves with tight lips and hindered comments? Would you rather we speak falsely? Because that can be just as unconstructive as any compunctious insult. I'm surprised that on a forum designed to allow discussion and expression of opinions, you would advocate such censorship.

According to Dave's interview in Music and Musicians Magazine, Dave and Stevie recorded the "Everybody Loves You" demo separately. I believe he recorded it first and then he sent it to her and she sent it back to him with her vocals added to it, so that's why it sounds so...bizarre.

So just because you like the demo snippet, your opinion is automatically correct? Stevie is 40 years into this. I doubt a few fans disliking a 40 second demo will crush her spirit.
I've seen this happen quite a lot in just the year I've been a member here. It is a discussion forum for a reason, I don't understand why people get so over sensitive over fellow fans discussing.
What is the difference between this, and saying that Oh Diane is an abomination? Or Silver Girl for that matter?
I'm not a Eurythmics fan, nor a Dave Stewart fan, I'm sorry that I don't like this demo thus far and have therefore crushed your spirit with my venom.

I don't think it has an alternative feel at all. If it had I would have liked it. The music sounds flat and uninspired, the melody has potential but is sung so uninspired by the male voice that it just sucks every form of life out of it. Maybe the whole track will be better but I doubt this approach is changed in the rest of the track.

I really dislike it. Why sing a duet if you're not going to harmonize? Stevie's voice usually does blend beautifully with other singers. This is not something I would listen to. All that being said, I love Stevie and support her by buying her music and having her back when non-fans bash her.

Exactly. The snippit we are hearing is just the demo that they sent back and forth to each other before the recording process started. I seriously think that the version we will get on her new record will be a completely different version with more instrumentation and harmonies. And remember that HE wrote to the words to the chorus and she wrote the lyrics for the verses. We only heard the chorus. This song could end up being a great track. We'll see how it turns out.

It sucks. And that's the same thing I said the first time I heard it (insert thumbs down here). No good reason, it just does.
Do I care if Stevie reads this board and sees that? Hell to the no. I've defended that woman till doomsday and complimented her so much her head would blow up. I'm not going to automatically like something just because Stevie's singing on it and/or wrote it.
If I don't like something I simply don't like it. In general I like what Stevie does but I gotta call a spade a spade in this case from what I've heard this song blows.
I'm also going to say what I've said before - if this is an indication of the entire album I'll be very dissapointed but I'm totally not going to jump to conclusions and judge it until I hear the album in it's entire and complete form.
Also from the tidbits I've heard so far, if I could have it my way she would not have worked with Dave Stewart. That being said I am very grateful that she's putting out new material and that someone implored her to do so and I'd rather have this than nothing but thus far I'm not feeling the music, the little tiny bit I've heard anyway.
I'm also in rare form tonight and may not feel this way tomorrow.

or maybe david, it was a first outtake you know that you could call it a outtake too!, so it really isn't different its just a first outtake. and maybe they mixed this outtake in with the final song!!

Ehh, then what the Hell would we have to talk about? We haven't gotten any new songs from this woman in nearly 8 years now... 10 since her last solo outing. Rough, not yet mixed or polished tracks are very hard to make a good judgement on.
I guess what's hard for me to swallow is how someone can listen to this clip and feel inspired by what they're hearing. The lyrics are violently banal and cliche. Stevie's singing is okay... but not exactly what I'd consider inspired. On top of that, her and Dave's voices don't blend one iota.
For what it's worth, I think you can make a judgement on a song by it's demo (usually... there are exceptions). Just look at the demo for Space Needle, for instance. It's chilling, haunting, and utterly emotive. It's stunning in demo form... I can't imagine how great a studio production of that song might have been. Not Make Believe and Thrown Down were excellent demos, and definitely made strong finished tracks, too.
I've been spending a lot of time lately thinking back to the time leading up to Trouble In Shangri La lately. We had snippets leaked to us back then as well. But we absolutely knew by them, no question, that we were in for a treat with that album. The clips we've heard of Everybody Loves You and Cheaper Than Free just don't give me chills the way the TISL clips did. They don't excite me. They don't sound ethereal... they're very literal.
I just want everyone to know I'm not picking on Stevie simply to take cheap shots at her. I'm just worried that she's not on the right track. She's giving up writing her own songs in favor of co-writing with someone else. That really concerns me... makes me think back to Street Angel. I adore Stevie and her music. I feel hugely invested in her after following her for decades. I just want her to be at her personal best, because I still feel she's capable of incredible music.

I enjoy reading everyone's commentary/opinions about Stevie and her music. I think generally that's why we all come to the Ledge, to read and sometimes share. Others post's allow us to see Stevie through another lens, but I've often found that it rarely changes my opinion and always confirms the obvious, that despite our communal connection to Stevie's music - we all have different tastes and expectations...which is life! Some want this new project to be another Bella Donna -which it could never ever be because of reasons too numerous to go into on this post, others want it to be as good as TISL etc. I have spent a great deal of time this year listening to Stevie's solo output, partly due to excitement about the new record, and after listening it occurred to me that my opinion before ever hearing a completed finished track is that this new album will be unlike anything she has done before, as true as each of her solo albums are very different and distinctly unique.
Stevie also has her opinions and is on record as saying that she thinks that this record may go down as her greatest work, and compares the excitement and creativity she feels about this project to the excitement she felt while making Bella Donna. Pretty heady stuff, and as soon we all read it, it energized all kinds of conjecture and presumption. It lit our little Ledgeheads on fire!! So we all critique a 40 second demo to death, it's all par for the course. As long as were talking - we're interested & intrigued. I happen to like it, but ultimately surmise it's just one song in 12-14 that I will either love, like or hopfeully not... loathe. The new record will likely have something for everyone - as Stevie has said herself that the record is very diverse. Just like us.

I guess I'm in the minority--I actually like the demo. Not that it's without its problems--I think the lyrics are pretty obvious and uninspiring (and of course, that aspect is the least likely to change significantly by the final cut). But I like the way their voices combine. Stevie's voice has become more nasal and a little harsher with age, and I think Dave's voice has a softening effect.
So I'm cautiously optimistic about the album. I do hope, though, that these lyrics aren't representative. They don't feel at all "Stevie-esque" to me--there's not a lot of subtlety here.

Very good point 's Christopher. I myself tend to get "my panties in a bundle" when/if someone talks down towards Stevie or her music. Its as if there talking about my very own sister, I get very defensive. So I bite my lip and walk away reminding myself we all have our very own & unique opinion' & point's of view! I don't have a problem with the demo, AC or not, and I hope it is arranged in a good way on the album, with good vocals. I do agree that it is is a bit of an issue that Stevie relied so much on Dave for cowriting on this project. With all the music she has in storage and her still strong solo writing abilities (as shown on SYW), I really think she could have given us a purely Stevie-written album and wowed us. But I'll take what she gives at this point in life.

Middle of the road adult contemporary trash. Even though it's only a 40 second snippet I would imagine the rest of the album will be of a similar ilk. I can only hope not.
I hate Dave's voice. Does not go with Stevies at all, overpowers it.

I have a feeling most Stevie fans on The Ledge will be quite disappointed in her new work. It's not going to be the Stevie you relished in the 80s. She at a totally different stage in her life, and I think TISL reflected that. I would expect this new CD to be Stevie today, and probably be only shades of who she was 20-25 years ago.
After all, I'm certainly not the same person I was when I bought Bella Donna and listened to it over and over and over. Are you?

I disagree, TISL did not reflect a new Stevie. She brought in old songs (Candlebright), love song ballads and rockers. Heck, she even sang about gin. Stevie stays true to herself all the time, if she continues to do that, the album will please lots of fans. We already know she's bringing in a vault or two of old songs. Old Stevie, so to speak.
Some complain about here going into AC territory. Well, she always has been there. You will hear Landslide, Gypsy, Sara, Dreams, Everyday, etc on AC radio all the time. The rock stations pick her rock cuts. Nothing much has ever changed in her style on each album. She is always true to herself and never really changes.
My only concern is her voice, that is the only aspect of Stevie that changes to me. Sometimes it is harder for me to get into her current voice as I find it shrill. Not always, but occasionally. One thing for sure, Stevie likes to rock and she likes to roll.

Are you?
I personally very much enjoyed TISL. It was current and modern, but was easily recognizable as Stevie at the same time. The album was a huge progression from Street Angel, in my opinion. And I fully expect this new album to be different as well. With Stevie being in her 60s now, the one thing I don't expect her to do is put out a wild rocking album. But I expect that signature Stevie Nicks mysticism to remain. And that's precisely what I don't like about Everybody Loves You and Cheaper Than Free... they are not ethereal at all, but are boringly literal. I hear those two songs and think of the garbage Stevie has recorded in the past to be radio friendly: Unconditional Love, Every Day, etc. I'm just hoping there will be heaping helpings of Stevie airy-fairyness to balance out the middle-of-the-road BS. We'll see, I suppose :)

I love the demo and very much look forward to this song being on the album.
Holy crap. WHO is the man in your signature? He is adorable and I want his number for Christmas! :)

Unfortunately he's straight and he's not famous. He currently lives in Florida.

Oh well. Maybe if we make him listen to enough Stevie he can be converted.

I think someone should tweet Dave and ask him for one more short clip of how things have progressed. I'd settle for just another 40 second clip of how Everybody Loves You has progressed, or 40 seconds of a completely different song. I'm sure Stevie wouldn't mind parting with 40 seconds.

Everybody Loves You is not exciting, but it sounds like a solid song. The song tells a story, but it's in the same vein as Say You Will and Everyday. I sorta like it. I hope its BIGGER than those two songs though. They were pretty good but too small.
I'm liking the snippet of Cheaper than Free more. I like the lyrics a lot their voices. It would be a good companion song to Whiskey Lullabye. I think it has good chance of doing well on the country charts. It's just a really good solid song and she needs those.

Wow, I've been put in my place. Look, I never wanted to censor anyone and by all means feel free to state your opinions. There are Stevie songs I love and some I hate. And I've shared negative opinions before. And I sure as hell would hate it if everyone agreed with everyone all the time, especially me. I just think using words like "awful" and "sucks" when talking about another person and their work is just mean.
But then again, that's my opinion. And yes, I'm entitled to that too. :xoxo:

Writing songs, singing, and presenting them publicly is Stevie's job. Anyone who has a job will get performance reviews and feedback. Depending on the way a person carries out their job is the type of feedback that person can expect. Just because Stevie's a rich rockstar doesn't mean she gets a carte blanche of praise and adoration. She's accountable for putting out good work just as much as a factory worker, for instance.
Look at it this way. Stevie's been in the public eye for 40 years. She's said before that when she enters a room, she lets everyone know that she could totally take them down. She's not this fragile, delicate waif. She's a hardened Hollywood business woman who has had more insults thrown at her than any normal person. Us debating whether or not we like her lyrics or vocals on a message board is the least of her concerns. It's not like we're throwing rotten eggs at her at a concert. We're discussing new tracks, and sharing feelings.
I think us sharing our opinions, good or bad, is actually a GOOD THING for an artist. When Stevie released Street Angel and it didn't sell, and didn't get radio play, she knew she'd let herself and her fans down personally. She knew she had to do better and up her game. So next time out, she gave us a much, much better product... TISL. Who knows, with Dave Stewart being such a child of the internet age, maybe he's read the Ledge and has seen some of the comments. Maybe the feedback will reach Stevie, and maybe she'll up her game. And who wouldn't want Stevie's personal best? If just fawned over her 24/7 she'd have no reason to challenge herself creatively and record good material.
And that's MY two cents! And yes, we're all entitled to our own here thankfully! :D

Don't worry Louie. You hate Every Day, That Made Me Stronger, and Too Far From Texas I believe. So perhaps you will hate some songs on the new album, but you will still love the album as a whole?

There are songs I hate on every Stevie solo album. Despite that, I still like every single Stevie album in it's own way... even Street Angel. So I'm hoping this new album of Stevie's won't be any different. I can say what I have heard, I'm not nuts about (Everybody Loves You, Annabel Lee, Cheaper Than Free, a song about freaking Twilight?!). But these tunes are just a portion. I'm hoping the big picture will be redeeming... and I'm sure it probably will be :). I think after a solid decade of no new Stevie material, I'm just anxious.
Richard B's post on this thread really put it all into perspective for me. Stevie's albums are all essentially the same, and have pretty much identical DNA/formulas. All Stevie's albums grab a couple songs from the vault. All Stevie's albums have a couple of rockers. All Stevie's albums have a couple of Adult Contemporary tracks. All Stevie albums have love song ballads. All Stevie albums have cover songs/songs she didn't personally write. I guess the big question here is what the umbrella theme or sound will be for this album. Time shall tell.

Ugh. Why did you have to remind me of the song about twatlight? Grr. I still can't believe it. I guess everyone wants that vampire money.
